Australia’s spinners won’t have access to a specialist coach on the ground for their upcoming series in Pakistan, with consultant Sridharan Sriram set to miss the historic tour after being unable to secure a visa because he is an Indian national.
Sriram has worked with the Australian cricket team as a spin coach since 2016, having played eight one-day internationals for India from 2000 to 2004.
The 46-year-old, who lives in India, is a highly regarded spin consultant but sources with knowledge of the situation have told the
Herald that Sriram was unable to secure a visa for the tour, Australia’s first to the country since 1998, because of his heritage.
Indian passport holders find it much harder to obtain visas in Pakistan, given the fractious history between the countries. Indian nationals, along with citizens from some other countries, have to register with Pakistan police when they enter the country.
