"We didn't experience this sort of reception (before), I'm loving it at the moment" : Mahmudullah

Mahmudullah at a press conference ahead of the first T20I in Lahore:

"Security won't be on our mind at all, we left that when we boarded the plane in Bangladesh. We're just thinking about playing good cricket in Pakistan, it's good to be back here and we're looking forward to putting on a good show.

"If you think about the rankings, it can affect your game so we're not thinking about that. We know Pakistan is a good strong team and has been consistent in the T20I format and their ranking reflects that. But if you look at our T20I performance graph, it's been going good in the past few series, we've played some good cricket and we'll be hoping to repeat some of the good performances. The way that the boys have been working, I think we can put up a good show.

"If I get the opportunity to bat in the top order, I'll be happy but it's more important to contribute for the team and I think that's how everybody is thinking.

"If you see our recent BPL campaign, we have a good young team with some young guns so we'll be counting on them. Experience wise, Soumya, me, Tamim, Mustafizur, Rubel, Al-Amin, Shafiul, I think we have a good mix of youth and experience. We need to think about our games individually and team wise so we can perform well.

"We aren't affected, we left everything behind in Bangladesh when we boarded the plane and we're ready to play some good cricket in Pakistan, that's all we're thinking about.

"It's a good opportunity for youngsters to put their hands up and perform well in the international arena and I think they are up for it.

"It's good to be back in Pakistan, I've been here before. There's a great atmosphere when you play in Pakistan and we're looking forward to playing some good cricket here.

"Amir and Wahab have been very experienced players for Pakistan, now it's an opportunity for the other guys as well in team Pakistan to put their hands up. I'm not worried about those things, we're concentrating on our performances.

"We've just come here for 3 T20Is at the moment so we're thinking about this only. Playing good cricket here and hoping to beat Pakistan is what we're thinking about.

"Haris Rauf has been performing well in BBL so I am happy for him.

"We didn't experience this sort of reception (before), I'm loving it at the moment. Security wise, I think Pakistan is probably providing us the best security they can have so I'm happy with all the arrangements.

"Babar Azam has been prolific in all 3 formats and it shows in the rankings, how good a player he is. We have been planning for all the batters and to cope and get them out, the bowling unit has been working hard. We'll sit together and plan accordingly.

"Gearing up for the World Cup, it's important that we perform well and keep winning matches and series. It's a great opportunity for us to win a series in Pakistan after a long time so we're looking forward to the series.

Actually it seems as if the actual Bangladesh players have love for Pakistan. It is just the BCB and the Bangladesh government which is apeing India in its attitude to Pakistan. But the players always say positive things about Pak players and Pakistan. I have never heard a single BD player say something bad or condescending about Pak.

Yes, like he did before they went to New Zealand, UAE, etc. :29:

I saw a lot of Indian media outlets making articles out of this. Slow news day, I guess.

I never had doubts BD would he hosted well and will be given an excellent reception just like Srl was given.

I hear from pakistani media that half of the city comes to a standstill with closed shops & businesses to conduct one match and last time sri lankan players complain about not able to leave the hotel premises !

Infact I think this was the reason that bangladesh players don't want to stay more than 7 days in a stretch... hmmm.. paints a wrong picture for next touring teams IMO

Next "touring team" is not india so why it is bothering you?

The Sri Lankan team firstly refused to go out on their own but then did go out to eat and have a stroll around. How many times does this need to be confirmed? Your credibility is in the gutter anyway after everyone showed up in this thread.

Lahore and Karachi are massive cities, so 'half of the city' definitely doesn't come to a standstill. Just the areas around the stadium.

SL in the first tour had the option of going to malls etc. which they opted to avoid. In the second tour for Test matches, they went to malls and restaurants.

Appreciate the concern. :19:

That has been always the case between players of South Asian countries, until they move into politics. Former IND-PAK players had utmost mutual respect among themselves, Lankans, Bangladeshis as well. Gambhir is now in politics and I am sure in future, once he retires, Mash won't be so diplomatic either.

And, the best of the lot - these days PAK's PM tries to take a dig at India, including cricket at every opportunity, but in past this guy was the most popular player (not cricketer, sportsman) in India and he had the highest admiration for Indian stars - Gavaskar, Kapil, Vishi, Amarnath, Vengsarkar...... In fact, it was sometimes in early 90s (or late 80s), in one Sportsweek interview, he categorically said that the amount of cricket talent India has, I could have made a Test champion side out of them - they just need the killer instincts and fighting spirit ..... something 30 years later we can see in Kohli's team.

It's not only in cricket, long back, Shahbaz & Dhanraj Pillai used to play in Dhaka Hockey League - they used to stay in one apartment with the then Bangladesh Captain and these three were like brothers, used to travel together during off days and even their families were close bonded. Our footballer Monem Munna used to play in Calcutta league - he was never allowed to stay in hotels during his Calcutta stay ......

Apart from politicians, next is these social media blogs these days, full of trolls with very little cricket (sport) knowledge or passion, but full of trolling enthusiasm - most of whom are there for their few minutes glory ...... otherwise, players from South Asia are among best buddies.

No worries but u still missed the point here..

these international players will compare this security in pakistan to other countries like india, england, australia without much security and they will believe that 'pakistan is not safe without security'

that was my point ! Cordoning off areas around stadium or halting some process always projects that something is not right.

PCB can verify itself by asking teams like england, australia etc., to do a full strength & full tour of tests, odis & t20s. I am sure even in 15 to 20 years we will not see these teams tourning pakistan.

why does it bother Indians when the BD team is touring Pakistan and the captain is pleased with the security and loving the reception! or am I missing anything?

Awww. Lookatchu so worried about cricket in your insignificant neighbors backyard. Aww. The concern warms my heart so very much

Hope PCB arranges some sightseeing for Bangladeshi players and give them a tour of Shahi Qilla and a shopping mall. They are getting Presidential level security, this needs to be negotiated with the BCB sent security officials. Still don't trust that BCB joker Nazmul Hassan Papon he mite not allow players to move freely.

Lol. The reality of 21st century is that security should always be there with visiting teams. I am sure same will happen for Pakistan when they visit India next time. Security should have been there with Bangladesh team in NZ when an Australian almost murdered them

Big cities in Pakistan are as safe as any big city in India if not more. Pakistan has to provide security given that an unfortunate incident happened 11 years ago. With time security will still be there but cordoning of surrounding areas would go down

only one condition though - no food. knowing our players (esp Tamim), they will for sure go for some good food and indulge in plates of biryani and lahori delicacies.

show them historical places but keep them away from food haha.

Completely agree to your post. I hear countless such tales from my father in law who had a family business of transportation in India and they transported several Indian and Pakistani players in the 70s and 80s. The players from both teams had a lot of mutual respect for each other and most were very good friends off the field. This was even true till the days of Akhtar, Harbhajan, Yuvraj etc. when there was more frequent cricket between the two teams.

But Lahore is all about food

Is it - I didn't visit Lahore, but the restaurants at Karachi are among the best I had across 5 continents. And, some of the Chinese/Thai dishes are probably better than Thailand itself!!!!! Here at Toronto, there are few Punjabi (PAK) restaurants, but I like AFG restaurants more if it's for Kebab or meat items.

Best restaurants are indeed in Karachi. People are quite wrong when they say Lahore is the food hub. I've tried both the places.

Anyway, hope some sightseeing tours are arranged for the players.

Please let them have biryani and nihari every day. Kamran Akmal endorses this message.

Karachi has awesome food too, but Lahoris love their food. The food street over there in old lahore has some wonderful restaurants and dhabas.

True. The noteworthy Pakistani restaurants here would be Karahi Restaurants around Mississauga.

How can you say England and Aus won't tour Pakistan in 15 or 20 years?.You can't tell what will happen in a week,15 years is long time.Security problems in Pakistan are due to war in Afghanistan.Pakistan used to be a safe country before Afghanistan got invaded.Anyway security in Pakistan has improved considerably now.It is still right to be vigilant in case Indian sponsored terrorists attack home or visiting team players

No, it is a valid question. No answer, I see!

I am standing right in front of GSL while I am writing this.
The lockdown is not the same as was in previous tour. My office is besides GSL and all the offices and malls were closed in SL tour and parking for spectators was 3,4 Km away from GSL.
But this time it's look like they aren't cautious than before. All roads are open malls are open I have to go to office(unfortunately). Things are getting back to normal slowly.

Us fans bickers, protest, quarrels out of the smallest things. In reality, players don't give two flying fudge and are most likely buddy buddy to each other, regardless of nation. Be it Ind/BD/Pak/SL, all play for each other's t20 leagues. We make issues out of nothing sometimes and get political.

Never in doubt that they will get good reception but I'd like to see in future tours there is no need for presidential level security, VVIP level security at most.

bangladesh players are requesting to pray for them as they are visiting pakistan

This is what Muslims do maybe if you were from a secular country you would have that knowledge of other religions.

No worries but u still missed the point here..

Pakistan is a country coming out of a long civil war and keeping our guests safe is of the highest priority. there is nothing wrong with the level of security if tour goes without any incident then everything is good.

Never in doubt that they will get good reception but I'd like to see in future tours there is no need for presidential level security, VVIP level security at most.

At the moment the touring teams demand presidential level security but there isn't actually a need for presidential level security. The image will start getting better soon as more and more teams tour Pakistan , This PSL will hopefully better our image a lot.

Mahmudullah presser after T20I series:

"Result wise we were disappointed, even though we know that Pakistan were the favourites. If you look at the rankings, Pakistan are #1 and we are #9. As a captain, I wanted us to give a better performance and show. We didn't execute our skills well enough.

"I've been here before, Lahore has been a wonderful city. The hospitality and arrangements have always been up to the mark. This time, the security arrangements were good as well. Hopefully we'll come back for the Test matches. As I mentioned, cricketing wise I was disappointed as we are better than that but credit goes to Pakistan.

"I always feel that Pakistan has a huge factory of producing fast-bowling. They have a very good bunch of fast-bowlers. Haris Rauf has been very good with his new ball and old ball skills. Shaheen Shah Afridi has been doing really well. They have a very good fast-bowling attack all the time.

"Pakistan are performing consistently with Babar Azam and the experience of Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. They have variety with their pace and spin attack. We have a very young team and we need to give them time.

"PSL I have played a few times. In UAE, the wickets were good at times but last time, I played just one game so I can't measure from that. Overall, I think Pakistan has been providing beautiful wickets, amazing wickets to bat on. But this time around, I expected a little better probably but it's OK because we didn't bat well enough."

sometimes try google for your research ....

Bangladesh Twenty20 skipper Mahmudullah on Sunday was glad to once again train alongside his team-mates in their first group training session since the pandemic began and hoped that training collectively will bring more intensity in their preparation.

After training individually for a number of weeks, 27 players, selected by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, began training collectively at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

BCB tested all 27 players for the virus before putting them together in a bio-security bubble where they will be kept secluded from any outside contact.

Mahmudullah felt energised by training alongside his team-mates for the first time in months and believed the team will hugely benefit by training together.

‘After so many days, we have started team training from today [Sunday] at Mirpur. After the individual training, now we can start team practice which is good. Now we are working together with our teammates. Everyone, including me, is cheered up,’ Mahmudullah told reporters after the first day’s training.

‘Because end of the day, it’s a team game and if we train together and enjoy each other’s company. It will be more effective for the team and for me as well,’ said the all-rounder.

Mahmudullah, a former Test skipper for Bangladesh, is currently trying to find his way back into the Tiger’s Test setup after getting dropped from the national red ball contract due to his dismal performance in longer version cricket.

After the Test match in Rawalpindi against Pakistan, it was reported that head coach Russel Domingo advised him to focus more on white-ball cricket, which was reflected by his axing from the national Test contract.

But the pandemic situation has handed him a chance to earn his place back in the Test squad as he was drafted in the primary squad for Sri Lanka tour.

The all-rounder told the media that he worked very hard during the lockdown days to improve his fitness and worked on his batting skill during the individual training sessions.

‘I tried to get some benefit out of the lock-down period. I tried to improve my fitness. I spent a lot of time in tread-mill. I got the guideline from the physio and the trainer; I used to talk to them in every three-four days. We talked about what else I can do to improve. I got good results from their suggestions,’ Mahmudullah said.

‘Since I started individual training, I did batting practice for four-five weeks. I have to work on some personal issues. I talked to the batting coach, with his instructions I did what was needed to be done in front of the bowling machine,’ he added.
