Trinidad is all set to welcome the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup with a high-stakes clash in Group C as the West Indies take on New Zealand at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. Aptly named the 'Group of Death', Group C has lived up to its billing, with Afghanistan emerging as the early frontrunner, boasting an impressive NRR of +5.225 and being all but through to the Super 8 stage.

With two wins from two matches, the West Indies are also on the verge of securing their place, while New Zealand, reeling from an 84-run loss in their campaign opener, are under early pressure. The co-hosts of the tournament are coming off a dominant victory over Uganda and are eager to add to New Zealand's woes. Although their top order of Brandon King, Johnson Charles, and Nicholas Pooran hasn't set the stage on fire yet, they have accumulated runs and will be crucial in the upcoming games against New Zealand and Afghanistan.

Finally a proper match after the borefests hopefully there will be balance between bat and ball like 170+ plays 170

West Indies will maul NZ. NZ is in no condition to compete

New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to field

New Zealand XI:
Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk), Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

West Indies XI: Brandon King, Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Roston Chase, Rovman Powell (c), Sherfane Rutherford, Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie

Group of death living up to its reputation. New Zealand even if they have a mediocre team can compete like a top-level team because of their high level of professionalism. Afghanistan were too good the other night, but New Zealand were also really sloppy and not playing like themselves. They have been absolutely on the money today. Hard to see them losing from this position.

This makes this group really interesting too because now West Indies v Afghanistan could be do or die for the West Indies.

Dre Rus doing Dre Rus things. What a player.
Spoke too soon lol. Brilliant from Boult and great captaincy by Williamson to bring on his best bowler.

If we had a certain someone else captaining New Zealand we could have seen Ravindra or Phillips come on for a couple of quick overs and release all the pressure NZ have built

If Russel is there for another 5 overs, WI will score over 140.

NZ batting has been very average.

Would be great for Afghanistan if NZ qualify . Afghanistan will be placed with vulnerable teams like USA SA Scotland

I switched off thinking they will get bowled out under 100 and they ended up making 150? Unbelievable.

Wow a remarkable recovery. No wonder WI is one of the faves to win this WC along with Aus and eng if they qualify

This is still a bad T20 pitch. Ball is keeping low and coming onto the bat slow. Uneven bounce.

Boult, Southee, Ferguson and Neesham combined conceded 96 runs in 16 over .
55 runs came of rest 4 overs

fantastic recovery by the windies, that rutherford innings on this pitch is phenomenal
the towels came out in the latter stage of that innings though so dew may make things difficult for the windies bowlers

Rutherford inning has kicked this match into a proper contest!

IT IS ON!

Lot on line. Both teams need this.

Do or die for both teams . WI will need to beat Afghanistan massively to qualify if they lose today .

Outstanding knock by Rutherford. Didn't think West Indies would end up with this at 31-5. Williamson fudged bad by giving Mitchell an over again. Didn't learn anything from the last game.

Brathwaite is a very good commentator. The likes of Dwayne Bravo, Sammy, Pollard are often seen, mistakenly, as blind hitters etc.

But they are all good thinkers, analysts if the game.

WI bowling is good, however the top order seems to miss a decent batsman

Time to pack the bags kiwis . Don’t remember the last time they fail to qualify for semis ?

I told everyone, brilliant bowling from wi however this pitch was 140 par score. Wi could have been bowled outnfor even 70, but they went 9 rums over par.

Once they did that theirs no reason to worry. NZ is playing Zimbabwe level cricket and have zero practise. What's happening to them is the same thing that happened to England in 2023 where bairstow, Root and stokes were recalled after 4 years amd were expected to be superstars with zero match practise in a long period.

India Afghanistan Australia , BD/Neth in same group .
So India Australia in semis

He's a breath of fresh air. Badree, on the other hand is the worst to listen to
