West Indies [427 & 322/5] beat England [258 & 490/8d] by five wickets at Leeds, equalise series 1-1

Chief Destroyer England got lucky :mv Lets hope the WI put up a good fight with the bat

Markhor It's a good day today, the West Indies did well and my rubbish got picked up to :)))

England dodged a bullet .... had WI held on to the catches ..... they would be some 150 all out !!!!!!

Nah, their lower order is GOAT level. They save England literally every second innings. Windies didn't help themselves by dropping so many catches.

England got away! they should have been 100 all out !!!!! Robert I told you not to get overconfident before the series :mv

England didn't get away - WI weren't good enough.

They can't play the moving ball. England will win this test.

England got lucky WI's didn't take their catches, would have been 100 all out. England are struggling against a low ranked team, England should be ashamed. England are out of their depth and no where near as good as they think they are. England are garbage.

This is their first time facing the moving ball. It's to be expected. England also had the much better conditions last game.

Well, I say WI got lucky that England played some loose shots. If they had played better they would be 309-3. England aren't really trying and still beat WI by an innings and plenty. They will go on to win 3-0 and it would be 10-0 given enough tests. WI have not won a test in England in seventeen years, are an embarrassment to their illustrious firebears and should not have turned up.

Also Robert At least The Wi's left a lasting impression on the cricketing world when it came to their golden generation in the sport the mentally weak English invented, WI are going through a low for a while now but no one will ever speak of England as highly of the West Indies at their peak. And you bring up that stat of 17 years but the mentally deformed English could not win a Test series home or away vs the WI for almost THREE DECADES ! :)))

England still favourites to win this in the end, but a thoroughly enjoyable day's cricket, very competitive, and at least gives us a 4 innings / 3.5 day-long match now - after the dull dreary debacle at Edgbaston, which even by the usual Test cricket minnow bashing standards felt like a totally empty win.

West Indies batting line up does not inspire confidence. I will watch the second day's performance before deciding if West Indies stand any chance in this test.

Bring Hales back and bat him at 3 in Australia. He's scoring like crazy and if David Warner bros. can hit tons in test cricket there for fun then any one can. Their tracks are a joke.

If WI get any sort of lead were in for a good game. Need one of there batsmen to get a big score.

I was thinking the same, he should be persisted with in the top order; he wasn't consistent but there was potential there, didn't look as big a clown as the recent rubbish lately

Quiet morning so far, Bishoo wafted at one outside off but WI batsmen looking to be patient. Ball is swinging.

England haven't bowled full enough.

Windies will collapse. They simply don't have the batting with Bravo missing.

I saw the dolly which was dropped at slip but there may have been another reprieve, so potentially 2 but I saw one

Among the best batsmen in the world that lad.

Forget the fact he's scored 3 100s away from home and converts at 20% :lol

People think I "hate" him just because he's English, far from it. I can give guys like Stokes and Ali the plaudits they deserves because they're great. Root on the other hand is given so many free passes and rated above his actual performances merit.

All those reprieves will bite WI's up the bum, they don't bat well and their best bet for dominance was taking England out for a paltry total and they could have been 100 all out. now they are 3 down and Jimmy needs 5 more to get 500

I'd still take his 50's solid and consistent, can't score hundreds every game; he's not a big match winner like KP but a solid 50 averaging batsman

Consistently average doesn't put you in the top 5 in the world. He's the weakest of the fab 4 atm.

IMO

Smith
Kohli
Kane
Warner
Qdk

Would you want someone who's consistent at being average, or would you want someone like KP who can win you a game with a brilliant performance?

I know who I would pick :kp

KP without a doubt, but you need someone like Root in the team as well who's 50's have been taken for granted. I'd still say he's very important to the England team but the A/R's are not appreciated as much

At the ground, cloudier and milder than expected but really enjoying it.

Agree with majiz, a good shout on Brathwaite - did not notice him before this game, but he looks by far the best Windies player out there - much more comfortable against the English bowlers than anyone else.

The batsmen who scores 50s in generally rated as the #3 or #4 batsmen in the team, with match winners being #1 and #2. Here England have made him number #1 in their batting unit and fans are putting him in the top 3 batsmen in the world :))

The other thing is Root is white and from the old boys club, so he's that white meat baby face who's the English cricket poster boy so he's bound to get overly hyped but the Beard keeps hogging his spot light :)) Root is a world class batsman though and one of the most consistent but maybe not the biggest match winner although he along with Mo both have 5 MOM's. Alistair Cook is the best batsman for me in the team.

You lot have been overly harsh on the WI's team without realising their level of inexperience, for many of these players it's their first tour in England and have not played a lot of Test cricket

Sounds amazing.

Stokes bowling very dangerously. Bowls in the mid 80's but still very good bowling at display here.

Brathwaite's been out of form since that knock in Sharjah last autumn but this has been a good start.

He needs to cash in and make a hundred now.

Anderson, Broad, Woakes and Stokes is a bit of a samey attack for me.

In places like Australia where there's little lateral movement they could struggle. Hence why someone like a Mark Wood who provides extra pace is important to England's chances in the Ashes.

Shai Hope is quality. WI needs to back him and he'll come good. Brathwaite and Hope are the future for WI.

Hard to believe Bumble was once the England cricket coach :)))

I don't think Woakes will do too well there. Stokes has a fivefer in Australia. We need a rejuvenated Broad back - he did well on the last trip. Jimmy could drop down to the third seamer role, reverse it about.

Some of these edges haven't carried because Hope and Brathwaite have played with soft hands so good batting.

Been a lot of talk about Shai Hope's potential, but hasn't translated into consistent runs. Now's as good a time to make an impact.

To all the fans complaining about Brathwaite's lbw being overturned because it hit him outside the line: I trust you will also complain when the shoe is on the other foot?

Move on!

Moeen needs to come back on. Sun is beating down now and it's doing nothing for the seamers. Lots of chatter in the stands about the uncanny uselessness of Woakes after lunch, could be carrying another niggle already.

England are desperate for a left arm seamer, whilst Pakistan could do with another right arm seamer.

Maybe they should arrange a swap? :kp

WI needs a big lead here , to put pressure on England. A lead of 30 - 40 runs will not be creating much pressure.

I think it's more the fact that he is a little undercooked.

Analogy doesn't really work. Loose shots can be caused by a multitude of factors. Dropped catches are the fault of the fielder alone.

totally agree, they are the cerebral barbadian backbone of the west indies batting order

Waiting for someone to say that review for caught behind should have actually been given out lbw as it was hitting the stumps (even though it hit him a mile outside off). :rp

moeen is and always will be a pie chucker and england should look at acquiring Essex's brave simon harmer as an englishman

England under the pump.

WI should look to get close to 450. If they do that, they should win this Test.

That is a proper test innings from Brathwaite- well done sir. :salute

World class innings. Have rated Brathwaite a lot since his tour to Australia and his match winning performance vs us last year. Great to see him do well.

Great stuff from KB. Hope he can summon all the mental strength he has and make it a big one and really make England pay.

Hope on 85. 15 away from a maiden century. Hope he can overcome the nerves and get there. Classy player.

Brilliant hundred.

England need to spark a batting collapse in the evening session, or they risk finding themselves in a sticky situation in the Test match.

WI need to get 400 from here to really have a chance. A batting collapse must be avoided at all costs.
