What's new

West Indies [427 & 322/5] beat England [258 & 490/8d] by five wickets at Leeds, equalise series 1-1

Good lead for WI. Their best chance of winning a Test match in England in many years.

What's the weather doing in Leeds?

Stoneman looks positive. His ticket to Australia is on the line here.

WI need to be more accurate than this.

England overturned 100+ run deficits against NZ at Lord's in 2015 and last year vs Pakistan at Edgbaston.

This is a match and series defining innings.

Holder deserved that, was a very good over and Cook gone poking outside off.

Came here to say this.

It was a very probing over- well deserved.

Just goes to show raw pace isn't everything.

Good. Lovely down here in the South West too.

Holder just did Cook like a kipper though.....

No excuses if England don't run the Windies ragged between now and close of play. Just been shopping in the city centre and am exhausted from that - bowling will be very difficult in this heat: also it's the last chance saloon for Westley after tea, which will create pressure.

Nice competitive Test this between no.3 and no.8 ranked teams Robert James

Oh Bishoo you owe your teammates big time, clear run-out chance.

The throw isn't great but he drops the ball then misses the stumps from about 5 yards with Westley halfway up the pitch.

Doesn't cost Windies too much, Westley gone to a terrible shot.

This has been a great Test, but the fielding has made Pakistan look a team of 11 Jonty Rhodes on speed.

Some tight bowling from WI, trying to build pressure through dots.

England's RR just less than 2.5 per over.

And there's the reward !

Gabriel bowls Stoneman, but the no-ball call was close. He can't keep pushing the line like that.

And Root has been dropped. Only if the WI could improve their fielding.

This will be a very costly drop.

You pick a specialist spinner but only give him one over...

I don't believe Bishoo's fingers are broken.

He got Root out in the 1st innings as well, what is Holder thinking ? did Bichu take his roti during the lunch time break or something

Disappointing final hour for Windies, dropping Root may prove to be costly.

They would've liked at least one more wicket before England reached parity. Still looks a good surface.

The underbowling of Bishoo has been puzzling, not saying he's Shane Warne but you don't pick a specialist spinner and only give him a couple of overs.

WI need a big effort in the first hour tomorrow.

England back in it, and Stoneman has given himself a career lifeline. Root and Malan will both (for different reasons) be under severe pressure in the morning though, and Westley is surely a goner now.

Excellent test match. Deficit eliminated, still got the skipper and the big lumber from 6 to 8, all of whom will have had a nice rest. Windies bat last on a worn pitch. Game on!

S Ravi is a terrible umpire. He's made some absolutely horrible decisions in this match.

India seems to have a long history of producing rubbish umpires.

Umpire Swaroop was my favourite. He was a pretty good ump, but had the circumference of the planet Saturn. Phil Tufnell had to run round him to bowl.

Root dropped in both innings, Malan caught after a nick which went unnoticed by umpire....West Indies look out of this. Lady Luck has turned in England's favor.

Selecting Bishoo was a mistake. Alzarri or Cummins would've kept up the pressure build by the opening seamers. Holder also doesn't have the temperament to use a leggie effectively. A wasted spot.

just reading the news paper and see windies got 186 lead and I felt like wow. that's incredible l achievement after losing 3 quick wickets.

Hundred partnership between Root and Malan.

WI will be rueing that drop of Root early in his innings.

Roach hasn't found the right line yet.

Root's luck is unreal, swear the guy gets 1-2 lives every innings

shaz619 you watch all England games, you know I'm not exaggerating :misbah

LMAO another 50 and out :salute

And people have the gall to say I'm bitter. The dude is a 50 machine, not a match winner.

Calling a spade a spade.

Another pretty 50 where he effectively was out twice shaz619

OH MY GOD! another drop

I blame Robert ! :mv he's not going to let the WI's win :))

50's are still to be valued mate, imagine he had not scored 59 and 72; WI's would be in a dominant position right now but their awful fielding has prevented that, Markhor is right ; these guys are really making Pakistan look like 11 Johnty Rhodes :))

Oh my, yet another drop.

Was a loose drive from Malan. Neither Dowrich or Powell could catch it.

This is why I meant I would never trade Kane for Root. Roots 50s would do nothing for us, at least Kane score tons and give us a chance at winning. Root would score 50s and get us to subpar totals and never get us in a positon to win. He's not a good batting leader who can head a batting lineup like Smith and Kane. Would mention Kohli but he's only come into that position and has fallen away the last few months.

Kane is a top batsman and a bit underrated, doesn't bat in the strongest line up unfortunately and he is this generations Martin Crowe for NZ, big responsibility on his shoulders.

People don't understand how difficult it is to bat in a team where you cannot trust anyone else.... He literally has to carry the batting and has the pressure of captaincy to bear. Before he could rely on Taylor, Latham and Watling, but they've all fallen away.

Have you been watching the game Junaids :)) I thought you're a fan of the Test Cricket :yk2

I'm actually watching Australia's Test in Bangladesh.

I find watching England really depressing: no runs from Numbers 2, 3 and 5 and no pace in the bowling!

Do you think the old dogs has any chance (in both matches). WI probably'll knock 2/3 before lead crosses 100 with 2nd ball. They can chase up to 200, probably.

And supposedly the number 2 batsmen in the world who cannot convert!

No such thing as luck, it's the oppo that can't catch.

131 runs in the match from the skip, that'll do for me.

WI will like another wicket before the 2nd new ball. Need to dismiss Stokes early as he's someone who can take the game away from you quickly.

Would like more fielders around the bat for Bishoo.

I think England will probably win if we set a target over 160.

A lot depends upon Stokes and Bairstow and Moeen, but if we reach 350 we can win, and if we reach 420 we should win.

England need 150 more runs at a minimum, I think. A couple of top order wickets falling to Jimmy will start panic and then Moeen could mop up.

Malan batting very well here. Could be an important innings in his career.

Yep, this tough fight is sifting the wheat from the chaff. Stoneman did well before he was sawn off. Let's find out who has the guts to face Australia.

West Indies need to make inroads with the 2nd new ball. They don't want to be chasing more than 180 on Day 5 on a wearing pitch against Anderson, Moeen and co.

Big hour coming up.

Rubbish start from Roach, spraying the new ball all over the place.

Malan gets his fifty. He can thank the generosity of the West Indian fielders.

Been about one ball in this Roach spell that hit the top of off stump.

Not good enough.

Makan has booked his flight to Australia, I think.

Trouble is, Aussies can catch.

Match slipping away from West Indies now.

Historically speaking, even 150+ in the 4th innings has been very challenging to get at Headingley, and England are looking like they are good for a lead of at least 210 here.

Well it was nice while it lasted.

Boundaries flowing freely now for England.

Effectively 130-4. WI have got to get Stokes out soon to stay in the match.

Wasn't able to go to the game today, but would completely be in the market for a cheapo Day 5 ticket.... If it was not "back to work" day tomorrow :(

Oh my, Stokes has gifted his wicket away first ball after drinks.

Stokes goes and WI are back in it at effectively 140-5. Will there be a collapse?

Well that brings the match back to life.

Windies were strangely subdued since lunch, even though they had the 2nd new ball. As Vaughan said on TMS it's as if they don't believe they could win even though they're still in a winnable position.
