What's new

West Indies [427 & 322/5] beat England [258 & 490/8d] by five wickets at Leeds, equalise series 1-1

I was trying to do the opposite by not saying "Stokes will get a century" !

Malan is all set to get a hundred then The Beard will hit a quick fire 50; Bairstow will be there till the end

Well that brings the match back to life.

Windies were strangely subdued since lunch, even though they had the 2nd new ball. As Vaughan said on TMS it's as if they don't believe they could win even though they're still in a winnable position.

Are you watching a stream or listening to TMS

Listened to TMS during the drinks break to skip the Paddy Power ads on Sky :))

Those are somewhat bearable, but desi channels  Oh! that almost carried, they probably would have dropped it anyway lol Chase getting it to do a bit

Well bowled Roston Chase.

The next partnership is huge and Windies must break it quickly. Bairstow and Ali are dangerous players.

Pitch offering uneven bounce.

Malan raising his bat as if he just made the greatest hundred of all time as he walks off :))

Malan played very well. That is the kind of stodgy boring innings you need in Test cricket sometimes. Collingwood was a gritty, coarse and effective number 5 in this vein for England for many years. Malan has big shoes to fill.

143 lead with 4 wickets left. Ugh the game just moved on a lot. Hopefully can get another 70 runs or so. From somewhere.

I think Mo and Bairstow will still be there at stumps, don't worry about those 70 runs

shaz619 is in cognitive dissonance now because he wants Beard to get a ton, but if that happens The Ingerlund will win :42:

And another catch goes down!

To be fair Robert anything over 150 was always going to be difficult fo WI. Ingurlands game to lose

Effectively 170/7.

Could go down to a knife edge tomorrow afternoon!!

I like how Woakes was an automatic pick over Roland Jobber Jones

The reason England are a consistently good side is because their selectors can identify the great players like Moeen and Woakes and the rubbish ones like Adil Rashid.

Toblerone will get his chance down under when Anderson or Broad pull a Swann and pretend to be injured halfway through the tour to protect their bowling averages

Have you read his interview on PP ? he thinks he can make a comeback to the Test team :yk

Really?

For all the whinging idiots do about the "PCGONEMAD!!!!!!!" quota in Safrican cricket, you'd think they'd start making some noise about the Yorkshire/Northern quota in English cricket that gives a hack like Adil Rashid hope of being a test cricketer.

Kemar continuing to serve up keema for the batsmen - been awful since lunch.

Been bowling a lot wider of the crease since the layoff from the accident in 2014.

It's actually a legit concern and even more so when you read up on the origins of the ECB chairman ! No wonder ENG have been so inconsistent at the Test level for a while now because their talent supply is dependent on one source alone :mv

Serving up Keema :)) am going to steal that from you

Bishoo's not a top leggie - lacks control and liable to bowl one long hop per over, doesn't have a good googly and lacks pace through the air like Yasir has.

Windies should upgrade on him.

Okay then...

That was the most pointless over in the history of Test cricket.

Shannon Gabriel on now.

No ball.

Well you can see why West Indies are ranked where they are.

Wow, were it not for all these reprieves it's highly likely the Test could have been over by now in WI's favour

I didn't realise the WI's fielding was so god awful, it's truly horrendous. Am not sure I've ever seen them field so bad. It's obviously challenging for touring teams to field in England but even then, WI's are fielding like Pakistan and no one is as bad at fielding then Pakistan !:kakmal

Some strange tactics from Windies here- never mind the runs, they are losing the mental battle here despite having been on top for most of this test.

400 up.

233 ahead.

I said to myself earlier that if two of Stokes, Bairstow and Moeen get fifties, England have got this.

Junaids do you suspect anything dodgy in this Test between Eng and WI ?

This Test was there for the taking for West Indies. Had they taken even half of the dollies they've dropped this match would be over.

They lack the discipline to sustain a performance over 5 days - you can't tour places like England and give them so many reprieves.

Ali gets a fifty, but like Malan and Root should've gone early had Windies not messed up the basics. Reprieved after a Bishoo no-ball when he had him caught behind.

Shades of Pakistan in the Sydney Test of 2010.

Match is slipping away from Windies rapidly. They lack the killer instict. Holder and co lacks the sense of urgency and are way too casual, shows that they are satisfied with 'moral victory'. A game could've won but with poor captaincy and dropped catches cost them the match

To be fair it wasn't a no ball, but it makes up for Stoneman being given out off a no ball I guess.

The best that Windies can hope for is a draw. England have a killer lower order wow.

I doubt if they have the players to play a blockathon especially against anderson in his home turf

It would have been better to go for win rather than playing for a draw

His foot was on the line not behind it, pretty sure they give the line to the umpire

Na, looked to be hovering about an inch behind the line and that's coming from an Englishman. Like I said though, evens it up after yesterdays decision.

These two have put on a hundred.

If only the top order could bat!

It looked on the line trust me, I say that as an Englishman and West Indian :yk But either way yeah it evens things out, so long England drop like 20 catches when they have a bowl :yk

Mo looking for that 6th hundred, can he get there ? has a chance here; a rarity at no.8

Poms have made a remarkable turn around. 260+ ahead & 110 overs to go. They'll set something like 320 in 100 overs.

I just remembered when that fan with his mini cricket bat low balled KP :))

They don't know how to close a Test match out - that's the price for 15 years of mediocrity.

Since 1997, West Indies have only won 3 out of 97 away Tests against teams ranked above them.

Bishu bowling well now that he has actually been given a damn chance !

True but once you lose a wicket or two trying to be attacking, you'll be in a shell. I doubt that WI can survive tomorrow. Expecting an England win with WI all out for under 200. If anything England should declare with a lead of 330 and send them in before the days close.

Poms have got a way to go before that.

Looking forward, Stoneman is probably in for a while. Young Hameed will slot back in at #3. What about Hales at #5?

Just smash it around now. Any more runs are a bonus. England's performance today has already been way above expectations. Most important thing is that we get an hour of bowling tonight and tighten our grip on the result by taking wickets. It will also give us the second new ball for extra overs tomorrow.

There's the declaration.

Target is 321. England have a few overs to bowl at the Windies openers this evening.

Aggressive captaincy from Rooooooooooooooooooooooot. Good to see after years of attritional defence from Strauss and Cook.

West Indies showing why they are minnows.

Had a great chance to win the Test and now they are fighting to stay in it.
