West Indies tour of Bangladesh (2025) [3 ODIS and 3 T20Is]

Good to see West Indies win finally, Bangladesh won't win anything away from home if they continue making such poor pitches at home.

Shakib scored 600 runs on good batting tracks in 2019 world cup. BD should exclusively play on batting tracks and back their spinners to come good thrlere.

BD will not progress in white ball cricket with slow and low pitch like Mirpur. it damages BD cricket not touring team. when will BCB learn?
I think they are desperate for some WC qualification scenarios. There are some higher scoring grounds now in BD like Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshai.

Next WC will be in RSA where pacers will dominate plus you need pace bowling all-rounder. Saifuddin is our best pace all-rounder but BCB never worked on developing his game.

Even I as a layman knows we should be playing in sporting wickets with pace dominating even if it means playing qualifiers.

All SENA countries now produce batting friendly Surfaces in white Ball 90% of Time

Pak also plays on literal roads in white ball

Same for India

only BD makes such tracks. I remember before t20 wc in 2021 , NZ toured and games were slow drag. not a great advertisement of Game

Yes, I do think that our women game against SRL need to be investigated. They went from 99% chance of winning to 0% in matter of just few balls.

Too bad you can’t apply the same investigative energy to the Bangladesh men’s team, otherwise they’d all be in jail years ago.

Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein kept his composure in a tense Super Over to guide West Indies to a thrilling win over Bangladesh in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.

Hosein, who earlier bowled a disciplined spell of 2 for 41 in 10 overs, was entrusted by skipper Shai Hope to defend 11 runs in the one-over eliminator. The over began in dramatic fashion as Hosein delivered a wide followed by a front-foot no-ball, gifting Bangladesh four runs before even bowling a legal delivery.

However, the left-arm spinner regained his rhythm just in time, holding his nerve under pressure as Bangladesh managed only nine runs off the over — falling two runs short of the target.

Earlier, batting first in the Super Over, West Indies scored 10/1, with captain Hope leading the way by smashing seven runs off three balls.

In the main game, the visitors appeared poised for victory while chasing 214, needing just five off the final over with Hope still at the crease. But Saif Hassan bowled a brilliant last over, conceding only four runs to push the match into a dramatic finish.

Hope anchored the West Indies innings with an unbeaten 53 off 67 deliveries, including four boundaries, while Keacy Carty contributed 35 off 59 balls. Among Bangladeshi bowlers, Rishad Hossain impressed with 3 for 42, supported by Tanvir Islam and Nasum Ahmed, who took two wickets apiece, while Saif claimed one.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh had opted to bat first and posted 213/7 in their 50 overs, as the West Indies deployed an all-spin attack to exploit the slow Mirpur surface.

Soumya Sarkar top-scored for the hosts with a patient 45 off 89 balls, while captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz added a valuable 32 not out off 58 deliveries.

For the West Indies, Gudakesh Motie led the wicket tally, but it was Athanaze who delivered the standout spell — conceding just 14 runs from his 10 overs and taking two wickets. Hosein backed him up with another tidy performance, while Roston Chase and Khary Pierre went wicketless.

Question is why is there a super over in a bilateral ODI? It wasn't like this in the past. These were ties in the past.

Super Over should only be used for ICC knockouts and T20s. :inti

It was a very retarded decision to send in Shanto and Soumya for the Super Over (considering bowler was a spinner).

They should've sent in Saif, Tawhid, and Rishad. Possibly the 3 best Bangladeshi hitters against spinners.

Soumya is vulnerable against spinners and so is Shanto.

Brainless and retarded management. :inti

Yeah. Saif and Rishad are your best hitters, TBH.. And they were warming the bench in the super over...LOL

Brainfade moment.

Super Overs became mandatory sometime in Oct. 2023

But even before that , teams could choose to do so if they agreed on it bilaterally.

Eg. PAK vs ZIM in 2020

Pitch got even worse in the 2nd innings. And it began with the ball turning 5 + degrees for Motie and co.
Both Sri Lanka and bng shamelessly opted for bat first win game kind of surfaces to secure the points. No wonder both are struggling with inconsistency, mediocrity, lacklustre tournament performances and headless chicken performances against strong opponents on out of comfort zones.

SL have made it count. They rank 4th in the rankings.

Bangladesh are languishing at #10, despite all these pitch shenanigans. And SL pitches don't look anywhere near as bad as Mirpur, anyway

Irrespective of the rankings, the modus operandi is same.in last 9 matches at colombo, batting team won 9 times and opposition batted only once.sri Lanka hosts odi series in colombo only.similarly will trust their toss and pitch just like lankans.they will conduct majority /entority of the series with out any shame.unlike bng, lanka always flew under the radar.

Bangladesh vs West Indies, 3rd ODI

BAN 111-0(16.3)

going strong after winning the toss

3rd ODI Drinks.

33overs. BD 203-2
Saif 80 (72)
Sarkar 91 (86)

176 run opening partnership.

On a turning track both batted excellently. Dealing with sixes. Soumya should have got the ton, taking singles in the end.

Tawhid Hridoy is not a #3, he cant rotate the strike, has very limited single scoring options, cant even put lose half trackers away for a single on the off side many times hits it to the fielders.

Hridoy has slowed BD down 12 off 30 cant even put away short balls on the off. His technique is so bad he has no offside game. His game is big shots on the leg side

Bangladesh one point looked like getting 350 plus when Saif and Sarkar partnership was going great!

On this pitch anything above 230 is enough anyways. Just the way Saif and Sarkar smashed anything loose and full for sixes, played it well.

Lord Shanto with 2 lives. OUT! Couldn’t make the 50 too bad for Shanto Da! 44 off 55

BD: 296-8 50ov

Joint number of sixes for BD in a odi match 14 sixes. Other one was in Sylhet.

Because of Hridoy they couldn’t get 300+.

BD did well today.

Opening partnership of 170+. Nice.

They should've gone past 300 after the position they were in.

Windies lost another wicket. Nasum has taken all 3 wickets. :inti

WI - 39/3 (9.5 overs; target: 297).

BCB has new main pitch curator now. Once they are out of the woods for this WC qualifying, we can start seeing better pitches in Mirpur.

Bangladesh hammered West Indies by 179 runs in the third ODI to claim their first series win since March last year. A dazzling 176-run opening stand between Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar set the stage for Bangladesh’s commanding total of 296 for 8. In reply, the visitors folded for just 117 in 30.1 overs.

Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain starred once again with three wickets, finishing the series with 12 — becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler since 2015 to take more than ten wickets in a bilateral ODI series. Nasum Ahmed also picked up three wickets, while Tanvir Islam bowled superbly for figures of 2 for 16 in eight overs.

Batting first, Bangladesh got off to an unusually brisk start on a Dhaka surface that had mostly favored spinners throughout the series. Sarkar (91 off 86) and Saif (80 off 72) went on a boundary-hitting spree for 25 overs, registering Bangladesh’s second-highest opening stand in ODIs and their first century opening partnership at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in a decade.

Saif launched Akeal Hosein for two boundaries in the first over before lifting him for a stylish six over covers — the shot that ignited the onslaught. Sarkar joined the party, reverse-sweeping Roston Chase for two sixes before Saif hammered another over long-on. Their momentum barely dipped even when pace was introduced, as Justin Greaves was greeted with a flurry of fours and sixes.

Saif reached his maiden ODI fifty, while Sarkar dominated from the other end, striking Khary Pierre and Gudakesh Motie for towering sixes. However, both openers fell in quick succession — Saif holing out to long-on and Sarkar dismissed at midwicket for 91, nine short of a deserved century.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy added 50 for the third wicket, but the middle order couldn’t fully capitalize on the strong foundation. West Indies briefly fought back through Akeal Hosein, who removed Mahidul Islam, Rishad Hossain, and Nasum Ahmed in the 46th over. Still, Bangladesh’s 296 — featuring 14 sixes, their joint-highest in an ODI innings — proved far beyond reach.

In response, West Indies never found their footing. Nasum Ahmed struck early, trapping Alick Athanaze and Ackeem Auguste lbw before bowling Brandon King for 18. Shai Hope’s soft dismissal off Tanvir Islam left them reeling at 44 for 4. Rishad then ran through the middle order, removing Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, and Gudakesh Motie to seal a clinical win.

After a thrilling Super Over loss in the second ODI, Bangladesh bounced back in emphatic fashion to take the series 2-1 — a much-needed confidence boost and a reminder of their dominance at home.

1st T20 today. :inti

Venue is Chattogram (Chittagong). It is kind of flat.

Windies won the toss and decided to bat first.

WI - 61/1 (8.4 overs).

I wouldn't be surprised if Windies win 3-0.

Chittagong is possibly BD's flattest ground. Flat pitches suit Windies.

:inti

Taskin is hit-wicket. LOL.

All over. :inti

Windies win the 1st game and go up 1-0.

Windies - 165/3 (20 overs)
BD - 149-all out (19.4 overs)

Windies win by 16 runs.

BD need to prove they can chase down 160-190 score on sporting/flat wickets. Tanzim Sakib becoming a mini allrounder will be big bonus for BD though.

Two hot and cold teams , a perfect series to enjoy if you have all the time in world , which unfortunately I don't:(

T20 rankings looking alright today. Two more wins for Windies and then we can all agree that the ICC T20 rankings are accurate. :)

As soon as bng was not batting first on mirpur , they lost. such a cruel game

:cobra

This T20 series is not in Mirpur. :inti

It is in Chittagong which is quite flat. 170+ is par here. Possibly the flattest ground in BD.

BD beat West Indies 2-1 in Mirpur (recently concluded ODI series).

Well the T20 rankings are not accurate because even if BD were to win 3-0, they would still be ranked 9. We also beat them 3-0 when we last toured them.

However, thing with WI is that irrespective of their ranking, they are always a dangerous T20 side especially when at full strength.
