What's new

West Indies vs India | 2nd Test | Kingston | 30th Jul - 3rd Aug | Day 2

When he burst onto the scene, Pujara was known his heroics against spin bowling but in the last year or so (excluding that comeback 100 against SL) his technique against spin has been found wanting. He looked very unsure with his footwork or length of the ball while playing even a half decent rookie offie like chase.

With the way rahul has batted so far and If vijay indeed gets fit for 3rd test, the chances for one of pujara or dhawan (may be very unlikely, with virat's preference for players who are flamboyant in their approach to the game) getting dropped seems imminent.

He will soon. Kohli is a honorary Banglorian.
His profanities on the field are a constant reminder that by heart he is a delhite.

No amount of glamour can make him forget his roots. :kohli

India will prolly get 500 and win by an inns. ICC should really award more points for inns or 10 wicket wins or away wins. The rankings are flawed.

There have been only 16 runs scored in the last 10 overs (cricinfo). Pujara is batting with an SR of about 25 for some reason :13:

Yaay :6 by Rahul

Now get a move on fellas, it's Monday morning tomorrow can't stay awake for another 5 hours!

Come on man, he made a hundred against Starc, Harris, Hazelwood, Lyon and Watson too:D

Ashwin and even Rohit got a 50 in that match, Aussies scored at over 6 RPO in their 2nd innings while a guy like Chris Rogers got ~150 runs in that match. The key is in the pitch.

He he, pitches have been flat for sometime in Australia nowadays.

Btw Rogers is a pretty good batsman, you're talking as if he is a hack.

The run rate is too low. I know India are playing with 1 less batsmen but this is very slow batting from them especially Pujara. There is no logic in scoring 44 of 155 balls under these circumstances.

Slow going .... but this is exactly how you grind the opposition down on a hot day, specially when they haven't batted well in their 1st innings. This is Test Mattch Cricket at it's very best !!!

I think Pujara will get this tour to sort out whatever it is with his batting.
KL Rahul is too good to be not a regular in the test team.

I don't see how Rohit will be the beneficiary of Pujara being dropped. Kohli is going to persist with Dhawan and play Rahul at 3.

I fear Kohli might drop Pujara for next match, which I will be grave injustice.

This is test cricket. Scoring runs at 30 SR is fine. Given the stroke making players we have in the team it is absolutely necessary to have a couple of players who can grind it out.

Pujara needs to be given an elongated run, at least 2-3 series without questions being raised about his place in the side.

Suddenly there's life in this pitch.. interesting how it spun and bounced for Bishoo..

How was this a waste inning?

Faced 150+ balls and it would hardly be talked of when the series wraps up. A player should try not to throw up his wicket after getting into 30s and 40s especially if he is going a bit miss those days.

'A guy like Chris Rogers' lol this is gold.

Even Viv knows nothing about batting when he says Rahul is very impressive, has great technique and is pure class.

Pujara should be in the team. Not all can play gems like 141 in SL last year or century in SA two years back.

Rahul should play atleast 10 of the next 15 test matches!!! he should be a regular

Kohli can't replace Dhawan.
Kohli can't replace Saha.
Kohli has to bring Vijay back after he gets fit.
Kohli can't replace Rahul after this.
Kohli wants to play five genuine bowlers(1 as world class AR).

What should he do now?

Guess Pujara will go. It is good for captain to have choice of plenty

Rahul is a good boy, he'll get injured after this knock. Dhawan, Vijay and Rahul have a deal between them.

Rahul batting through the cramps. This kinda reminds me of his knock of 188 in the 2014 Ranji final where he was limping between the wickets due to an injured hamstring at the start but kept going.

Bit unfortunate to get run out there.
Also runs are not coming easily here. The outfield is very very slow, WI are bowling in the 5/6th wicket channel and even Kohli is at 8 off 30 right now.

Yes, Pujara could have scored faster but it definitely wasn't a "waste innings", especially considering we play with only 5 specialist batsmen.

Yes...He is struggling a bit and might well be injured for next game if Vijay comes back.Looks like they will keep following the loop of getting injured one by one.

West Indies is playing the waiting game here. Trying to dry up the runs by setting up defensive fields and not taking new ball. Even Kohli is finding it difficult to score runs..

Commentators talking about how Kohli changed his complete life style to succeed in cricket

All those points makes up as a waste of inning. Lets not forget its a WI team and 40-45 knocks aren't going to be appreciated unless it comes as a match finishing one under huge pressure. Its not just about slow batting but when you have faced 150 balls you need to make most of it and end up hitting a big one.

Also,WI bowlers have come into active mode against Kohli as he is new to crease but he will start batting freely once he gets set.Look how well Rahul is batting.

Chateshwar "I lost my way after 20 test matches" Pujara...

This was how Manjrekar described Pujara.. Can't understand what beef he has with this poor guy..

Jealous that Pujara is understood and appreciated by his team.

Gabriel has bowled really well and is getting some great shape on the ball at good pace.

He may get a wicket in this spell.

Manjrekar has this ridiculous habit of backing himself a bit too much, and often mouths utterly stupid stuff.

Holder with a pitched up delivery, just outside the off stump, shaping away, enticed the drive from Kohli who plays and misses.

Almost.

I think there's deviation there, not sure they'll give it unless Dar thinks it was edged.

In the replays it seemed to me that it was not edged.

I thought there was perhaps a movement shown from the camera facing down the pitch just as the ball passed the bat, can't be sure though. Aleem Dar evidently felt he edged it though and was just checking the catch.

Kohli's my boy and all but that was out. Marginal but did not look like it was going down leg in real time.

Ms
Kohli
Rahane
Jadeja
Yadav
Bhuvi
KL

The main Indian players I like. Rahane has impressed me since he played against South Africa in 2013, can remember watching and I was like, why hasn't he been playing earlier. Was delighted when him and Kohli did well in the overseas tours.

Bishoo goes short one over and Kohli capitalizes immediately to take his SR to 50. This is the issue with Pujara these days, tuk tuk with no dispatching of the loose balls.
