What is the ideal punishment for rapists?

A rapist was or freed after settling to marry the victim. How is this justice? Its actually a punishment to the victim.

What do you think is the right punishment for rapists?

Chemical castration is one idea many are proposing. death in case where victims are under the age of 12.

in a black and white world rape should be punishable by prison and monetary restitution (subject to the victims approval), or death, however, the real world is full of greys. the documentary "a question of consent" (18+ only) is pretty good on the issues.

the tax payer has to pay for long prison sentences, and in the modern economy physical labour doesn't produce near enough surplus to cover the expense.

do you think its fair for law abiding tax payers to fork the bill for a rapists accommodation, food, surveillance, medical bills, etc for 10 to 20 years?

He can work and pay for his bills. If not possible, I guess execution is one solution.

Punishment has to be meaningful. Rape is no joke.
