Pakistan’s protest over match referee Andy Pycroft has officially been rejected by the ICC. The controversy began when Pycroft allegedly advised Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha to skip the customary handshake with India’s Suryakumar Yadav during the September 14 clash. The post-match snub by Indian players only added fuel to the fire.
Despite PCB’s demand for Pycroft’s removal, ICC clarified he was simply relaying ACC instructions—and will continue officiating. With Pakistan now set to face UAE in a must-win game, the board faces a crossroads.
With emotions running high and the next fixture against UAE looming, the PCB has three stark choices. They could refuse to play UAE, making a bold statement but risking instant elimination from the tournament. Alternatively, they might withdraw entirely, escalating the protest but sacrificing their campaign and credibility. Or, they could choose to do nothing—play on, pretend it never happened, and shift focus back to cricket.
With both Pakistan and UAE tied on points, a boycott would hand UAE a direct ticket to the Super 4s. The stakes couldn’t be higher: pride versus progress, protest versus performance.
