So lets give this a fresh go!

I watched Tenet recently - and got totally confused but have to admit it still kept me interested!
 
I watched Tenet yesterday as well and had no idea what was going on, so boring . It's going to be Nolan's first flop in a dozen films he's made .. just complicated mumbo jumbo. Not to mention the lead character was kinda bland and dull. Google tells me he is Denzel Washington's son ? :O
 
Good Job MIG. Old thread was too heavy lol. Last film I watched was "Torbaaz" on Netflix.Waste of time 3/10
 
Just gonna copy my last post on the previous thread to start off here

Lady Vengeance (7.5/10)

The Thing (rewatch) (10/10) What an insanely good movie

Creep 2 (7.5/10) You won’t see me talk a lot about performances in films that I review, but Mark Duplass deserves a lot of credit for carrying these films and having some astonishing screen presence

La Haine (8/10)

Tenet (3/10) Terrible writing containing an embarrassing amount of exposition that even puts Interstellar to shame. A film that is completely shallow with no structure, which jumps from forgettable set piece to forgettable set piece without anything substantial in between. An incoherent mess.

Watch a couple of the explanation videos on YouTube and I think you’ll appreciate the cinematography more.

There are quite a few subtle things that you might miss if you weren’t looking for them.
 
Lady vengeance is part of the vengeance trilogy? I thought it was the most stylised of the three. But a decent film.

Tenet is meant to be more of a visual and auditory spectacle than great story telling.
 
Last movie I watched was waaay back in March.

Parasite. Fantastic film. I love a good thriller, and this one took a turn or a few turns that I didn’t anticipate.
 
Glass -surprisingly good, probably coz critics smashed it I had low expectations.

Creed 2.

Nice to see a couple of alumni of The Wire again.

I enjoyed it. A bit predictable but it fleshed out some of the old Rocky series characters and there were some observations about different father-son relationships.
 
Near the end of a James Bond marathon. Saw The Living Daylights last, gonna rewatch License To Kill tonight.

Gerald’s Game - 8.5/10

Mike’s best horror movie in my opinion, partly reality based but an excellent adaptation of King’s novel. Keeps you on the edge throughout and the setting/circumstances were very haunting.

Haven’t seen Tenet yet have been looking forward to it, expert reviews suggest it was generally favourable.

I really liked how the childhood abuse theme was interwoven in. I still think Hush is his best
 
Swades (rewatch)(8.5/10) Shah Rukh Khan’s best movie and my favourite A.R. Rahman soundtrack of the last 20 years along with Lagaan

Triangle (6/10) A film that could have explored its interesting concept with more depth instead of continuously trying to be too clever for its own good. Nevertheless, it is worth a watch and I was a fan of the Greek Mythology parallels. (Also, can we stop referencing The Shining in every other piece of media. We get it. Room 237. Very clever)
 
I have logged and rated 1051 movies currently. Those are effectively all the movies I’ve watched since I don’t remember anything else. My goal is to watch 1500 movies before turning 25 so 350 in the next 3 years or so. Very doable
 
Sorcerer (8/10) There’s something I really like about Friedkin’s raw style. I understand the need for backstories but this got a little too long to get going. Once it did though, it was a hell of a ride. (No pun intended)

Amazing film. I recommend you to see the original: The Wages of Fear from French filmmaker Henri-Georges Clouzot. It's one of my favorite films and imo even better than Friedkin's remake.

Yes, that was exceptionally disturbing and what really had me on the edge also when you consider the reality and possibility of it all, normally am cool with most horror they don’t really get me going. Hush was creative, don’t think anyone has taken an aged concept and reinvented it especially in terms of the obstacle the victim faced, also considering the challenge he must have faced doing a horror with his lead being a mute. Wouldn’t argue against that either, Hush was brilliant I guess on a more personal note as well he may rate it as his best work given how he wrote it to. Running out of good horror to watch, any hidden gems from Netflix or Amazon ? I have Apostle, Creep series, 1922, His House and In The Tall Grass on my watch list though

I didn’t like Apostle at all. I like the Creep movies. They’re short and sweet. I also recommend all of Ari aster, Robert eggers, and Jordan peeles films if you want good modern horror. They’re my favourite current horror directors. The Wailing is an absolutely amazing recent Korean horror movie that everyone should watch. You’re Next, Don’t Breathe, it comes at night and it follows are other recent horror movies I liked. The descent is slightly older but a must watch
 
Today we watched the new Disney Pixar movie, Souls. Available today on Disney+ streaming service. An ok movie. Moments of classic Disney, but mostly the story is just a bit too deep for children. 5/10

Bumblebee. Impressed with this. Good family action movie. Lovely bass sweeps in places. Plus love Transformers.

Fell apart in the final act. Otherwise a decent movie.
 
Made my kids (young adults) watch Forrest Gump again.

One of the greats and both of them loved it. Tom Hanks at his absolute best.
 
I watched Wonder Woman 84 yesterday.. action scenes were average, I was suprised at the low key special effects and editing, given that this was a majorly anticipated blockbuster film.

Nevertheless, it's good family film to watch in theatre. Gal Gadot is a visual stunner as always.

That is the whole point of female superheroes, either they show skin, or wear skimpy outfits for the male audience. Male superheroes don't need to show skin, and if at all they wear skin tight clothes, they have capes to hide their behind.
 
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

A story of black musicians cutting a record in 1927 Chicago. Themes of artistic control, commercial exploitation by white management, and black-on-black violence.

Chadwick Boseman is unrecognisable in his final role. What a brilliant actor.

Just superb. A+.

Good movie up till the ending which was sooo lame. Seriously? Just give the 2 main characters really lame deaths. DROWNING IN A PUDDLE?? M. Night once again fumbles the bag :facepalm:
 
Rewatched Casino Royale for the bajillionth time. Still an absolute banger of a movie.
 
The Laundromat.

Meryl Streep, Antonio Banderas and Gary Oldman explore the Panama Papers scandal. A- from me.

The ending in Inside Man ruined it a lot but a great script and some fine acting.

Any 80's or 90's movies you can recommened?

One of my all time favs is True Romance.
 
Wild Things (6.5/10) This was so slimy, sleazy and dirty that I had to take a shower right after watching it. Some terrible dialogue too. I liked it

Since you like True Romance I assume you’ve seen the rest of Tarantino’s stuff. Some good 80s and 90s crime movies that come to mind are the usual suspects, Se7en, Fargo, Miller’s Crossing, Casino, Trainspotting. Check out any of those you haven’t seen.

Yep seen them all. There has to be some I haven't but perhaps we need another thread dedciated to 80's and 90's movies.

Patricia Arquette's scene with James Gandolfini is still imo one of the greatest pieces of acting by any female.

My top 5 movies of the 80s off the top of my head are Blue Velvet, The Shining, The Thing, Evil Dead 2, Do The Right Thing. 90s ones are Pulp Fiction, Se7en, Goodfellas, Trainspotting, Terminator 2, End of Evangelion, Scream. Had to pick 7. Magnolia, The Sixth Sense, Unforgiven and The Game are other excellent 90s movies that I didn’t mention earlier
 
Anyone who has got Amazon Prime, I would recommend Knives Out. You'll have to be quick though, as it leaves Prime soon. It's a Daniel Craig murder mystery and a really great watch. It has outstanding reviews from critics and audiences alike.
 
Da 5 Bloods.

Spike Lee does it again. Four elder black GIs return to Vietnam Nam to look for their dead leader (and a cache of gold). An explorative of racist draft policy, brotherhood of soldiers, PTSD, and some white Europeans trying to do the decent thing. The running time is perhaps a tad long so I will give it A-.

didn't like it - too much american comedy in it, constant jokes after every few lines,

very poor- story was poor - just added too many characters which didn't gel. Honestly it was like a bollywood film, give it a 3/10
 
The Nice guys(rewatch), 8/10 Shane black is amazing love his movies, can't believe it failed commercially deserved a sequel.

Notting Hill - 8/10 , an extra 0.5 for Julia Roberts :afridi

Decent romcom, loved the hilarious addition of spike in the narrative who creates quiet a few memorable moments, both leads had decent chemistry and evoked emotion. These kinda romcoms from days of old are so much better then the trash out there now, I guess also a reflection of society; anyone seen Holidate? absolutely horrible, pure aids. Sh!t movie and Sh!t acting to, I got myself drug tested after watching it on the Netflix

Also, I doubt a travel book shop would survive in the current circumstances even with ‘government support’ , I didn’t realise such businesses existed! let alone in London of all places, then again that movie was made in the late 90s but still...

Saw that in the cinema late at night in Karachi with 2 friends. The summer before going to uni. Good times
 
Grave of the Fireflies (1988) - One of the best films I've ever seen but also one of the most saddest and depressing. Not a massive fan of Japanese animated films but this film is great regardless of genre. Not a film I think I'll watch again for a very long time. That is if I even end up watching it again as it's pretty bleak.

Thanks, just thinking about it puts me in a mini depression. Even when I think about it (like I had to after reading your post), I just fast forwarded through the scenes in my mind without focusing on anything specific until I put up an episode of Just for Laughs or something similarly silly and light on YT.

Seven - If am honest, I first watched this a long long time ago; and re-watched it recently, it wasn't as good as it was on the first watch but still a highly enjoyable crime/mystery/thriller; fairly straight forward to follow, doesn't take itself too seriously either and keeps you engaged. I remember thinking this movie must have inspired the SAW series, doing a search on the net; James Wan confirmed he studied it. 7.6/10

The Babadook - The biggest criticism I have with this one is that Amazon prime classify this as 'LGBT' , seriously; I didn't realise that was a genre! that aside, it was a very enjoyable psychological horror; you will find yourself on the edge throughout, story centres around a woman who's husband passes while he drives his pregnant wife to the hospital who survives / gives birth on the same day. There are themes involving mental health and how grief can manifest in a spectacular way. 8/10

1922 - Stephen King is a unique individual, his mind is something else lol all he does is shake a tree and compelling horror stories drop like flies, I enjoyed this movie a great deal; it's more of a character study and slow burner which focuses on dialogue, it is narrated by the lead (Wilfred James) who tells the story through the lens of his confession which revolves around him conspiring to murder his wife with the help of his son for financial gain involving a bit land, it is sad right to think this stuff probably happens a lot in the subcontinent to this day let alone 1922 lol my favourite quote of the movie which is from Stephen King was "I believe that there is another man inside of every man, a stranger, a Conniving Man" :afridi 8/10
 
Drive (2011).

Really good thriller with unexpected twists - highly recommend. Don’t watch the trailer or read synopsis though, better to watch with a fresh mind.
 
DeadBall, why am I not surprised you've watched the film:) But yeah you're right. Thinking about certain scenes does get your mood down again.
 
Oldboy (2003) - Watched it for the first time the other week and it's a good film but man is it one messed up film. I wasn't expecting any of the twists at the end or the way everything played out and that was one brilliant aspect of it.
 
The gentleman- decent guy Ritchie movie in the snatch mould. Good to see Hugh grant in a different light, all the usual suspects from guy ritchies movies of old to make it a good watch.

Rewatched the professional/ Leon as well brilliant french action thriller, highly recommended
 
Watched Pakistani drama movie “Cake” on Netflix. 7/10.
If someone has watched it can they tell me what is the language/dialect the villagers in that movie are speaking.

I love this movie I have seen it almost 10 times☺️.
The whole sequence with friends when Roberts comes to dinner is so endearing.
 
Alaap 8/10

Hrishikesh Mukherjee made such serious gems time to time different from his comedy ones.

Absolutely brilliant characters Om Prakash , Amitabh Bachan , Chaaya Devi-Manmohan Krishna, Asrani playing their roles to perfection ,relationship of characters that are modern even for today’s standards.

Shastriya Sangeet at its best.

The socialists angle along with culture is defn the theme, the ending song “Koi Gaata Main Sojaata” might seem ironic but is remarkable.

1940-1980 Best time for bollywood easily.
