Watched True Romance on leaderface58's recommendation , enjoyed it from beginning till the end, some amazing scenes were complemented by excellent background score ...

A.I.: Artificial Intelligence

A lot of things could have been done better, especially the ending. But I won't lie, I cried as in any decent and emotionalish movie with children I have ever watched.

Also, I managed to learn The Prestige ring trick. Proudest moment of the month :)

This one deserves multiple viewings. A superb cast and a really efficient murder mystery+ comedy. The singing telegram girl scene alone awards this movie a recommendation.

The Covenant

Four young men who belong to a supernatural legacy are forced to battle a fifth power long thought to have died out. Another great force they must contend with is the jealousy and suspicion that threatens to tear them apart.

Good movie ........ interesting in parts. The actress looked pretty :P

7.5 / 10

Thats an old movie.. like at least 5 years old.

Fast & Furious 6. It was fun. The key is to go and watch it just for fun and cars. Much better than Iron Man 3 though.

Watched the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Purely for fans of horror with the usual violence and plenty of blood. Wasn't that great to be honest - 6/10

Also watched Django Unchained which I thought was brilliant. Superb actors and a superb film. Quite a bit of violence in it though which may put some off, but I thought it was a fantastic movie 9/10

Midnights Children, really well done ;of course does not do justice to the book but on its own i enjoyed it. they should have cast a more kashmiri looking woman in the central role of aminah. 8/10

Boy was this a doozy. Real mind screw of a film. Watch it with someone with whom you like to discuss and interpret a movie. A really odd mix of coming-of-age drama(with some humour) and a science-fiction time travel story. It's unbelievably original. Jake Gyllenhaal was pretty awesome as the disturbed teen.

Watch out for Seth Rogen in the role of an utter douchebag.

Takashi Miike's latest movie...'Lesson of the Evil'...fun watch if your a Miike fan...nothing special about the plot but if your a fan of Japanese violence then you'll enjoy this...

'Intouchables'...really touching movie...best movie i've seen in a while...find it ridiculous that anyone could label this racist...its a movie about class not race...I especially learned that if ever I become paralysed from the neck down atleast I have my ears...

Internet's slowed down to a grind so going through all the old movies on my hard drive... Just finished watching Fargo.. Absolute gem of a movie.. All the 'yaaaaaaaa's never get old, gotta love that stupid accent.

I usually take a look at IMDB website to find a decent film .

Could you guys recommend me some good movies which are not listed in top 250 but are excellent to watch??

Gurus like leaderface58, Zaz and Saadibaba are expected to share their views :)

Thanks for the respect but i wouldnt call myself a guru, just someone who watches a lot of films lol

I like most enjoy a variety of genres, as long as the film is well made whether it be horror, action, comedy, thriller etc

What disappoints me about a lot of hollywood films is a lot of the directors think they can throw money at a film and forget about its script. My recommendation would be to watch world cinema where they dont have the luxury of big budgets and as a result produce a lot of quality cinema

Check out this link for a thread on quality world cinema - hope you enjoy these films as much a i did

Thanks for the eloquent response Zaz bhai, :) I just never thought that I would enjoy a film whose language is completely unfamiliar to me ....and I have never watched any of these foreign language movies...

I've only watched A.I once, and considering the gravitas of the people involved I was disappointed. My initial reaction was that it would have been better had Kubrick been able to finish it on his own, because Spielberg's signature fascination with the child's-eye view sends the sentimentality levels over the edge. However I'll certainly watch this again soon and see if it grows on me.

You watched Donnie Darko, James? Highly recommended for fans who like to discuss a movie after it's over.

I would be interested to know how your rating changes on second watch after some time.

I pretty much agree. But that's my weak spot, no matter how kitsch. :) (looking at the Cure and that utter nonsense with Sean Penn and Dakota Fanning).

Donnie Darko is a wonderful movie that it keeps you guessing and interested in the film....but still not enjoyable to watch...

Darko is one of my favourites. One of those occasions where the Director's Cut is actually much the better film. The scene at the party with the time vortex leading out of the fridge, to the tune of Echo and the Bunnymen. Superb film-making.

I watched it vanilla and it was too rigid for me. I think that the problem lies in that I was expecting a surrealistic and free-flowing movie and ended up with science-fi. However, if that's what you are into, as well as the various sorts of time travel and their implications, I realize that is a really good movie because each shot is very well thought of and it pieces well together. I just can't be bothered about it because I don't like the general genre and, more specifically, I don't think it can make much sense in the end (no director cut for me).

The Director's Cut I find to be quite coherent; the time travel and parallel/tangent universe ideas are explained more clearly through extracts from the book that the old woman gives him. Turns out that he is not so much an accidental hero as a chosen warrior ('Living Receiver'), the god of the machine.

I'm not normally a fan of sci-fi but this seemed like something slightly different. A genuine work of art like you say.

Great, more exposition.

Posse amare volui nec me temptasse negabo :)

(yes it's supposed to be a verse but I messed up :P)

Point is, I realize its many qualities but I really can't bring myself to like it for some reason.

Yeah the whole Philosophy of time travel chapters are listed down making us easy to understand who is The receiver or What is the artifact? The film is still funny though especially Jake insulting Swayze (RIP)

"Casablanca" (1942)... wasn't a bad movie in the orthodox sense, but was expecting more considering the hype... 7/10, and perhaps 8 for Ingrid Bergman.

Haha yeah (RIP), also that teacher 'he told me to insert the method forcibly into my anus' and the dad laughs but poorly disguises it as a cough LOL!

Yeah that teacher was getting a little too uppity. Got owned lol.

There were some good scenes like Donnie and his dad, Donnie and his mom, the ending with Gretchen waving at Donnie's mom.

One of the first films to feature either or indeed both of the Gyllenhaals. Oh how they've come on since then!

I haven't watched After Earth but M.Night Shyamalamalamalan's career is almost over, After Earth has 12% in Rotten Tomatoes :))

Maybe not if it grosses enough cash lol

It's bombed. Expected to gross 35-40 million in the first weekend, it is about to gross only 27 odd. M Night should stick to writing stories. Devil was adapted well.

Big blow to Will smith's career too.

The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable as well. One arguably great and one arguably very good film. What a pair to start with. And how he's tanked since then.

If Night gets another chance, he should bring Willis back. The two seem to click.

Signs is a superb film too. Watched it many times. Unbreakable basically laid the foundation for Nolan's trilogy.

Otherwise called the Shyamalinear curve:

See my new thread. I think it's worth a separate discussion, though I could be wildly off the mark.

The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

Enjoyable gorefest with decent acting.

Dark Knight Rises on Blu Ray.

Great comment on the current world economy, not as much of a thrill ride as Begins or the filmmaking masterclass of Dark Knight though.

I'd say it is on par with Begins. A fitting conclusion.

''La cité des Enfants perdus''

Same director as Amélie, probably even better than said movie :)

Saw a Mainland Chinese movie yesterday called 'Crazy Stone'...jokes movie...billed as the Chinese version of Snatch...it has some similarities but is also a very original film imo...a nice look at life in China...

Is that the mid-90s movie?

I remember watching that and falling in love with the girl. I was the same age as her at the time, so it wasn't a problem then.

I am scared to watch it again for this very reason. :moyo

Everytime it works up momentum and manages to lose it because of superfluous subplots which end up nowhere. It's pretty frustrating because the suspense is pretty decent and JK Simmons is pretty superb as the Alien Expert (AKA Mr. Exposition). Resembled an X-Files episode. One-time watch.

A Beautiful Mind...

Top performance from Crowe...the wife was a lot nicer in the film than in real life...

The film left out the homosexual part and hollywoodized it a bit other than that good film

Place beyond the pines. Liked it a lot. Different style of narrative.

Yeah seems a lot of the true story was left out...his divorce, homosexual relations and the fact that he heard voices as opposed to seeing people...

That said it was a fascinating look at schizophrenia...and a good movie overall...

Yes, it is. And I have the same problem with Natalie Portman :Pg

Saw the arresting Director's Cut of Leon the other week. I can see why it was banned. Explores the sexual overtones between Mathilda and Leon a lot more explicitly, and features some seriously edgy scenes such as Mathilda playing Russian Roulette with herself and her learning how to 'clean' on live close quarters targets (who Leon then ruthlessly kills to prevent her from being reported).

I think it's the better version however because it seems more complete, feeling like a European piece of art, which is what it really is - not the less liberal and more diluted Hollywood version that we grew up with.

Fast and Furious Part 6
8/10

Excellent second half redeems an okayish first half. The greatest stunt is not even in the movie. It was pulled by me who saw this movie without seeing first 5 movies :P (although I did know a bit about the characters). Worth a watch on the big screen.
