Bird box.

A weird but exciting thriller on Netflix that I recommend watching. The concept of the film resembles Quiet Place which I thought was brilliant.

Memories of Murder.

A South Korean film based on a real serial killer. Terrific.

The Invisible Guest (Spanish). Sensational movie. On Netflix.

A thriller with amazing twists and turns. Thank me later!

Watched more rubbish from Bollywood - Simmba.

Awful film about police corruption. 2/10.

It's your fault that you expected better film from le'jhand'ary director "rohit shi-tty".

It has been acclaimed critically though reviews are generally favourable, metascore of 61 and tomatometer of 74%

I was speaking in terms of how scary it is because QalandarFan said he wanted to see something really scary. Didnt find it much scary personally. Was well made overall i agree.

You're probably right there, it doesn't seem to have the jump scares or gore etc as it's classed as a psychological thriller, but for me personally I get more freaked out by the suspense lol really enjoyed haunting of hill house

Haven't checked it yet, what would your suggestion be for something really scary?

I hate gore movies only ones I have seen is the Saw movies and I regret doing that. :)) Gore movies are not scary they are just disgusting in my view and I'm not a fan of those. Scary horror movies with a good story are amazing, unlike most of your Indian horror's which really have no plot at all and are real stinkers. I think I'm going to watch The Witch right now as it has some good reviews and looks hella scary judging by the trailer.

Isn't leatherface58 the horror movie expert, sir what horror movies would you recommend on watching that are really scary?

I've watched The Witch, it is similar stylistically to Hereditary; it's something a bit different, more of an eerie feeling to it. It wont be everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed it, definitely worth a watch. Gore doesn't do it for me either but I loved the SAW concept and the first few movies although their ideas were a little inspired by Seven (although this was more of a mystery but with some elements of horror but defo worth a watch if you've not seen it, was released in 1995)

Watched Rampage (just because The Rock was starring).

Was a 5/10. Can watch if you have nothing else to watch.

He will probably say the texas chainsaw massacre :)) from 1974. Also, if you love slasher movies then watch the original halloween followed by the most recent one released in 2018. I saw you watched Sinister, it was on my Amazon Prime for a while and I finally watched it like 2-3 months ago lol it was ok but have the same feelings as you on it but Halloween is the GOAT in the genre.

Man I hate Dwayne, bloody sell out and also a mediocre actor :mv he is the face of everything wrong with action movies in the modern era, give me John Wick any day. Dave Bautista is like 1000x the actor Dwayne is which is also why he is offered so many versatile roles

Se7en is one of the greatest movies I have seen remember watching it not to long ago, and the first Saw movie I liked as well. People told me not to watch the saw movies as you don't want all the gore stuck in your head, should of listened. :))

I probably wouldnt have liked him if I wasnt a former WWE fan. I do like his humour and his macho built makes the action scenes very much believable.

Lol, some slasher movies are good I remember watching one a while ago forget the name it was great. I'll see if I can check out the Halloween series.

They can be decent for sure when done right, also the first SAW was an indie movie and I remember reading the fellas who made it were on the brink and sacrificed so much to raise funds and take loans out to put towards the movies budget which was meant to be about $30K but they realised it would have to be far greater once the script had been developed and eventually managed to raise a million, the rest is history; it did about 100 million at the box office and grew into a massive franchise. Inspiring.

The only 3 I have been interested in his are Jumanji, Central Intelligence and Pain/Gain but not sure if I should watch any of them :mv

Yeah I read that about the first Saw movie is well, quite incredible.

Lol shaz619 is right. To me, the OG Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the scariest because of how real it is. Nothing supernatural about it and very little gore (almost none).

This year, Hereditary is one of the best horror films I have seen in some time. Slow burn, psychological terror with excellent performances and effective scares.

Watched more rubbish from Bollywood - Simmba.

Awful film about police corruption. 2/10.

I thought Simmba was pretty entertaining, probably the most entertaining Bollywood movie of the year. Anyone who liked Singham 1&2 will have a blast for sure.

Bird box.

Watched Bird Box now.

Loved the movie, something different. Great acting, suspense and storyline. 8.5/10

Heard good reviews about this movie.

Nothing new in it. It's remake of Telugu masala film "temper" (available on YouTube).
Same old 90s style plot where corrupt cop goes through change of heart under certain circumstances and punishes criminals.
It is strictly for rohit shetty movie lovers only.

Felt the same but too much Marathi for non Marathis but again Singham had the same..

Thanks, I will give it a go. Its nice to watch movies with a new untried concept. Knock Knock with Keanu Reeves is a good watch too.

Big fan of Keanu Reeves look forward to watching that - cheers!

I cant really help you much here lol because i really dont get scared by these horror movies anymore. When i am in the mood, i stay up till midnight, pick any horror movie with over 7 on IMDB and watch it all alone. Then i feel a bit of thrill. Try it if you havent already.

Having said that, the last horror movie which i found scary was evil dead (2013) but i found it scary only in parts. Then again, i watched it at 1 am :yk

Will give this a go soon, a lot has been said of it, I get the feeling it's like marmite. Btw part 2 of Vikings has released for season 5 and it is amazing! am up to date :afridi

Fargo (1996).

I liked the film for its premise and how its grounded in small town America with the criminals more bumbling fools than over the top, Hans Gruber-esque cartoon villains. William Macy is magnificent as Jerry who crumbles under the weight of his lies and financial misdeeds while the two criminals are funny with their constant bickering. The shooting of the winter Minnesota landscape is stunning too.

I understand the folksy appeal of the characters, and the desire to see the pregnant, country bumpkin police chief outwit the city slickers but its not as flawless as its fans make it out be. The second half doesn't live up to the first half, with the film dragging on a bit.

Also, the "don't they talk funny" gags are run into the ground. It's like hearing Sarah Palin talk for 90 minutes, a caricature of how rural or small town people speak as if they can't make it through a sentence without an "aw shucks, yah, you betcha".

7.5/10.

One of my all time fav. Now go watch the TV series :)

The 12th Man

Based on true events. A remaining saboteur from a group of 12 must reach Sweden with the Nazi’s on he’s tail. Worth a watch.

7/10

@in-cutter - I'll check it out.

Also if you're a fan of Korean thrillers I definitely recommend Memories of Murder. The ending is a real gut punch.

What sets Birdbox apart from A Quiet Place? Former seems sort of like a rip off of the latter. New unseen force, if you use one of your human functions it will detect and kill you. In AQP it was sound, in Birdbox it's sight.

AQP was widely applauded because it was something new and unique, almost in its own genre. I'm not sure about Birdbox, what do PP critics think of it? Maybe I'll give it a go.

I thought you were an old fan of foreign movies. Memories of Murder is one of the best foreign language movie.

Don't need to check it , just watch it straightaway.

Certainly am but I seem to be watching less movies of late :)

Saj - watch Andhadhun on Netflix. 8.9 rating on IMDB - highest rated movie of 2018.

One piece of advice - do not read any spoilers or reviews or you will spoil the fun. The movie will blow your mind.

AQP is in a totally different league compared to BB in setting the tone, characters that you start to relate to and care about, had some great tense scenes where my heart was almost beating out my chest (something that's rare for me) and a general thriller roller coaster. There were some funny jokes raised like how come no one farted in an entire year? and the ending while the ending was very good but not great.

BB on the other hand is like a made for TV, paint by numbers pseudo thriller with every cliche possible available. I couldn't relate to any of the characters and was just looking at my watch to see how long till the next character dies. Its plot holes were even more absurd and the only reason I sat through it was the ending which is the dumbest, most unsatisfactory in quite a while and was quite obvious, something I was wondering to myself through out the whole movie as why didn't they just do that int he first place. The runtime could also have been around 30 mins less.

This is a second movie about the life Jan Baalsrud, the first being Ni Liv (Nine lives) in 1957 which was good but told more from Jan's perspective.

I find this a much much better movie, couldn't believe it was from the same guy who gave us Agent Cody Banks, Pink Panther 2 etc. Maybe he made those so that he could make this passion project of his. The lead Gullestad is great, JRM and the rest of the supporting cast also do a very good job. The cinematography is excellent and the trials and tribulations that Jan had to go through with one hindrance after another was nothing short of awe inspiring, in fact I would have called total ** if it were not "based" on a true story, now how much artistic license the director as taken I do not know.

However if there was a movie that could perfectly embody the phrase that reality is much stranger than fiction, then this would be it.

Is it really that good? I have had it on my Netflix watchlist for some time now but couldn't muster the courage since going for Bollywood films with high expectations has never worked for me in the past.

Glad you liked it, did you like Tabu or Ayushman more?

Swades. I can see this movie 100 times and not get bored. Watching this movie gives me a certain comfort...

9/10 for me

Not feeling well, was in bed all day and in mood of some crime/drama/thriller. Rewatched True Detective Season 1.

Need something in the same genre with more action now so will rewatch Elite Squad 1 and 2. Moura as usual is magnetic, terrifying, brutal self. Makes movies like The Expendables, SWAT etc look like the Powerpuff Girls.

Surprisingly found Part 1 in HD on Youtube, if anyone is interested

Elite Squad part 2 was kind of a let down..loved the first one, Brazil produces few good movies but some of them are amazing ,wonder if you have seen Central de Brazil.and city of God..

Andhadhun
Fantastic time pass film. You don't see movies such as this coming out of bollywood often. Loved how they kept the ending open.

8/10 from me.

Spoilder buddy!

I didn't reveal anything tho , did I? :asif
But what a performance from Tabu proving once again why she's the best actress in bollywood for a reason.
Aayushman did well too. Very underrated actor.

Yes, City of God is one of the GOAT of all time and was an inspiration to the ES series actually, Central do Brazil was more of a drama. Other Spanish/Portuguese crime/drama/action/thrillers that you can check out are

Cellda 211 (more like ES, action thriller)
Marshland (crime drama, more in the vein of True Detective)
Contratiempo (great low budget mystery, thriller)
The Body (another v good mystery, thriller)

There are a few others but I think they are more mainstream

Nueve Reinas (crime, drama, thriller) Hollywood remade it
El secreto de sus ojos (crime, drama, thriller) same remade

Spoilder buddy!

Not really a spoiler. Liked the first 1/3rd of the movie, rest seemed like a watered down, unfunny version of a Guy Ritchie movie with so many plot holes, even circumstantial that I wouldn't even know where to begin. I may discuss it with a spoilers tag sometime later on perhaps.

Anyway its better than a lot of the stuff BW is producing but that's a very low bar to begin with. It has even put me off watching Badahi Ho now. IMHO Johnny Gaddar was much better. I would give it a 6/6.5 at best but it's all subjective in the end.

Get well soon.

I know you have watched a lot of TV/film , so, i will try something which you might have not watched. I may get lucky once.

Luther, is a good British TV serial. But i guess you have already watched it.

Wild Tales, a foreign language masterpiece - no way you have not already watched it.

The secret in their eyes - again a popular foreign language film.

Infernal affairs - but i am almost sure you watched it way back.

The untouchables - again very little chance that you have not already watched it.

A few good men, The name of the rose, The Ghost Writer , Miller's crossing, Shallow Grave, Blood Simple, Point Break 1991.

Do tell me the ones (if any ) which you have not already watched.

Thanks, yes, unfortunately I have watched and rewatched them all but great suggestions nonetheless.

Get well soon.

I know you have watched a lot of TV/film , so, i will try something which you might have not watched. I may get lucky once.

Luther, is a good British TV serial. But i guess you have already watched it. (Very good show but what makes it top tier is the magnificent Elba)

Wild Tales, a foreign language masterpiece - no way you have not already watched it. (Not all of the stories resounded with me but my favourites were 1,3 and 6)

The secret in their eyes - again a popular foreign language film. (Have mentioned it in the list above)

Infernal affairs - but i am almost sure you watched it way back. (I did, however I am not sure which I like better, the original or the remake, I think I may have to go with The Departed")

The untouchables - again very little chance that you have not already watched it. (Very underrated crime movie (Like 1900) regarding the mafia for some reason, maybe because it's more from Ness and his bunch's point of view. Right up there with GF, Once Upona Time In America, Casino, Goodfellas etc)

A few good men (Good movie but don't rate it that much), The name of the rose (One of the few movies that got the book right, criminally underrated), The Ghost Writer (Excellent build up throughout the movie, masterful ending) , Miller's crossing (One of the pioneers of sophisticated Irish Gangster movies, Road to Perdition is another great similar one) , Shallow Grave (Classic Boyle, followed by an even better Trainspotting, Eccleston was amazing) of , Blood Simple (One of the Coen Brothers lesser known gems), Point Break 1991 (Was good).

Do tell me the ones (if any ) which you have not already watched.

Check out any of the ones you haven't watched yet from the foreign movies list I posted above or if you need recommendations for some genre specific movies, let me know.

As i suspected, you are a walking film encyclopedia !

Trainspotting is one of the few popular films which i did not enjoy that much. I was more impressed with Requiem for a dream.

When it comes to foreign stuff i only watch those at the very top. I guess i need to watch Elite squad. :)

I can watch almost all genre although i'm not a huge fan of pure horror.

Some of the films that i watched recently ; Dangerous Liaisons, 10 clover field lane, The hell or high water, Wind River , Searching, are rated below 8 on IMDB but are as entertaining and gripping for me as a 8-9/10 movie.

But the most favorite of my genre would be Mystery, Thriller and Drama. I also like Romantic stuff as A walk to Remember. But good romance is very limited.

Then I'm a huge fan of classics ; Casablanca, To kill a Mocking Bird, The Searchers, The Graduate, The bridge on the River Kwai, Psycho, as old as It Happened One Night. Dog Day Afternoon, Inherit the Wind etc...... Some people don't watch this old stuff but it can be very good.

DeadBall, most of the times females have nothing much to offer except some masala but sometimes the characters or rather actors look very attractive - as Lori Petty in Point Break. Rosario Dawson in 25th Hour, Mandy Moore in A Walk to Remember, Michelle Pfeiffer and Uma Thurman in Dangerous Liaisons.

When it comes to attractive female characters how can i forget Krysten Ritter in the Breaking Bad. She has nailed it.

Lot of great suggestions, reviews, analysis here on all types of movies.

It is subjective, I like the direction of director Badlapur and Ek Haseena thi being his other good ones, its just that his in his own way tribute to 70's cinema I like , Saif screwed up Agent Vinod I genuinely felt if Raghavan was given the complete control he would had done it better.

I'm a sucker for old Hindi movies and directors that somewhat use them in their movies..Agent Vinod,Johnny Gaddar and now Andhadhun being few.
