The shawshank redemption - 9 /10 classic.

I regret not watching it before & I wish I didn't knew the last suspense before watching it.

Overall it was beautiful experience

Looking forward to watch more prison movies now.

Revenge...

French movie...and what a movie...brutal stylised violence...if you like your Korean revenge flicks you'll love this...

On the subject of Korean movies...any decent thrillers come out recently...they used to dominate the genre but seem to have fallen off of late...

Captain America - Civil War.

Worth it for the airport fight and the Cap-Stark duel.

7/10.

If you like revenge movies watch an Austrian movie called Revanche. It’s in my top 10 movies of all time

Us (2019): from the makers of Get Out, it's another brilliant (horror?) movie from them...

Us (2019): from the makers of Get Out, it's another brilliant (horror?) movie from them...

I enjoyed Get Out a lot more and touched on some very interesting themes regarding the oversexualisation of Black people; a few of my friends found it offensive but I didn't despite my heritage. The consensus also suggests Get Out was better going by the rating on metacritic from critics and users but there's not a lot between the two based on the ratings. Us was a decent movie with great execution but the plot didn't do it for me in comparison to the first was a bit basic although both are not related.

John Wick 3 arguably the best in the series and up there with the first, it combines what made the first so raw with the production investment of the second so well; it was narratively enthralling and also beautiful visually. It was also cool that they shot so many scenes in places I had visited more recently in NYC. I love combat sports and fighting sequences are something I watch very closely, it is very clear Reeves has put in so much work into perfecting his craft and the back/forth between him and high table goons was fluid, realistic and they were creative with the action as well. The pace of this film is a lot more high octane compared to the first 2 but that's fine by me given the set up / premise, you expect that when the contract on John is doubled and he is declared excommunicado.

What did you make of this Big Mac I know you're a big fan of this series - let me know when your embarrassing club cricket season has come to an end :yk

KingKhanWC Make sure you watch this bro, I think only a short time left now before it leaves the cinemas

Where the hell is Big Mac these days :))) come back resurface, I wont let anyone know about the phainta I gave you in the birmingham premier league, we need our World Cup mascot back :))

Thanks brother, I will give it a watch.

Any good crime movies you can recommend?

L.A Confidential, The Usual Suspects and The Silence of the Lambs come to mind straight away.

If you've seen those already, The Night Comes for Us is fairly recent and available on netflix

A TV movie but a great one. About Russian child serial killer Andre Chikatillo. You will find the full movie on YT.

Sounds great. Thanks . Watched Gotti with Travolota but wasn't too impressed.

Booksmart -super funny and great acting 8/10

Life of pets 2- okish not as good as first and could had been so much better, they had great story dialogues fell flat.

Shazam- was so much fun best super hero movie this summer for me 8/10

Avengers -6/10 disappointed

Dogs purpose or journey whatever is the new one- 6/10 bad execution

Us was great

shaz619
Yes , Us was better than get out for me, coz get out ending was similar to skeleton key, us blew my mind probably coz i didnt expect much and neither did i know same director, just tagged along with someone.

Makes me really glad to see black filmmakers make what they wanna make, their stories whether comedy, horror or superhero.

Watched the Netflix movie "Always be my maybe" with the wifey. Suprised to actually enjoy it a fair bit, Keanu Reeves in his cameo was gold and while the music was great, the 3 original songs in the movie especially the one in credits about Keanu is incredible

If you are just looking for a low key movie try giving this one a try

I think the movie was fantastic in terms of how well it was made but personally it wasn't to my taste, I found Get Out more compelling. There's another horror you should look out for coming soon called Midsommar, from the same director as Hereiditary; it gives me the damn creeps just off the trailer, am sure it's going to be brilliant.

The Lost City of Z - I really enjoyed this, I know JaDed wont because of the colonial aspect lol but it is based on a true story and if you're into exploration this is awesome and very gritty for its genre. Visually distinct and the epic/haunting story telling is very enjoyable - a very thought provoking adventure. You feel like you're on a journey with the lead characters search in Amazonia. Charlie Hunnam as Fawcett is absolutely incredible and everyone who thinks Pattinson can't act is a big idiot

Hotel Mumbai (2018)
True story of the Taj Hotel 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai by Pakistan based terrorists.
Very intense gritty film to watch.
Terrible things people do in the name of God!

12 years a Slave

Cried a bucket. Great performances. Made me want to treasure every moment my life and imagine how fortunate we are to be born and live as free men. Truly deserved the Oscar. A remarkable movie.

Well, it´s an open secret that I used to keep an eye on saadibaba´s review back then when I was a regular posters over here, due to some kind of regard and respect for him perhaps one can say. Also because he very rarely, or perhaps never, praises a bad film.

His above post is from February 2015, so I noted the film in my list right away. Almost four and a half years after, I finally got done with it. Let me copy-paste my review from another social media platform.

'12 Years a Slave' (2013)

"ANYONE out there who complains about his life, ANYONE out there who thinks his life is difficult, well, just watch this film & it´ll hit you the way not many can. I just have so less to add about this film because it can´t be described in words - never! one thing that I can surely say is that freedom is perhaps the greatest gift that the Almighty has bestowed upon us. If you´ve nothing to be grateful about in life, then not being a slave is one I´d say.

10 out of 10 for this emotionally draining film!"

Thank you, saadibaba for your review on this film! :)

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Got what I wanted, less humans and big CGI kaiju fights, didn't disappoint. 7/10

Bharat.

The idea was a good one but the film turned out to be a load of rubbish

1/10.

Not as good as the first but way better than the second movie.

It's great, unlike Shaz's cricketing ability which is why he's spent the past 3 years hiding inside because he's terrified of the phainty he will receive.

Have you seen Atomic Blonde? is that any good? not that I need a reason to watch it :akhtar

There is a potential cross over planned between Atomic Blonde and Wick in the future.

I will haunt you forever Big Mac :mv after ending your career I have been fishing for 3 years :yk , you will not find redemption, this is why Big Mac has been offering the big dolla to make a comeback; he can't go into the local kebab no more, the local lads still talk about my special mirchi delivery making him do the kukar dance around the stumps :irfan

Please watch “The Guilty” and “Burning”. I’ve heard they're on Netflix now, atleast in Canada. Both in my top 3 movies of 2018

Atomic Blonde is OK, some good action and the 80's setting means the soundtrack is great. Not a fan of the ending but it's pretty good before that. It's a spy movie with action rather than a pure action movie like John Wick though.

As for the rest of that nonsense, you've spent the last 3 or 4 years hiding and making up excuses. hadi123 come and look at this coward, he's got more stories than runs or wickets this decade :))

Time to muster up the courage and back up all the talk :shhh

Burning

Very slow burner but sucks you in. May have to be watched twice to understand the metaphors. Highly recommended.

Think I have discussed all the possible reasons and scenarios on here with someone. Definitely needs a couple of viewings but even then its speculation.

Also really looking forward to Parasite by Bong (director of Memories of Murder, Mother etc.), also won the Palm d'Or this year.

Last movie I watched was Avengers: Endgame.

I think it was a fantastic movie. It was the longest movie I have seen in my life (around 3 hours).

Late Night- Mindy should stick to writing and producing, she is great at both but absolute disaster of an actress, movie could had been great but ended up above average coz she couldn't act well, 7/10 for story, dialogues and directing by Nisha and shout to an awesome performance by Emma Thompson.

The Next Three Days - Very good film, Russell Crowe is superb - 8.5/10

The Perfection - Good watch and a storyline with surprises - 7/10

Boyz in the Hood - Classic - 9/10

Midsommar - 8/10

Not as scary as Hereditary and not as well-constructed but a very effective and unnerving horror film. Weird moments of humor bring down the intensity a bit but the perfomances are excellent and the film stays with you.

Midsommar 7/10

Very disappointing but still a 7. That tells you how great hereditary was. Hereditary is among my top 10 movies of the decade and I was going in with very high expectations. Unfortunately, most of the time it came across an inferior version of hereditary. Still a beautiful looking movie with some great parts. Definitely enjoyed the first half more

Spider-Man : Far From Home

Overall an OK film. Action was good. Middle part of the movie was boring. The third act was good.

The Mid-Credits scene was a shocker, and so was the cameo in it.

The post-credits scene also provided an unexpected twist.

Overall 7/10

Your welcome DHONI183

Glad you liked the movie. Its one of those movies like Schiendlers List which leaves you emotionally drained like you said but also makes you gain a new found respect for human life and the suffering of others.

Fully agreed man! I still haven´t quite fully been able to kind of "overcome" the film. Was talking about it just a couple of days ago!

I´ve watched 'Schindler´s List' (1993) too. Was a great film. That one too touched me.

I watched three movies last Friday

Spiderman Far from Home - 7/10. Better than Captain Marvel but worse than Endgame. Appreciated the strong villain.
Crawl - 5/10, Just a popcorn flick, something that you can just watch at home and forget.
MidSommar - 8/10 - very disturbing, loved the gore. Some scenes are frightening and hilarious at the same time.

Markhor

Was surprised once more at your Markhor review, I had the pleasure of watching this in cinema recently due to an exclusive screening as a result of the 20th anniversary of the release in 1999, tickets were selling like hot cakes! and man, it stood the test of time and was so enjoyable; it was a beautiful cinematic experience; 4K restoration and loved it a great deal; there is a fair bit of symbolism and imagery but I feel like one can be a bit too guilty of reading too much into things - simply, it's the humans v AI in a unique world / simulation, we fight for survival while they fight to keep us in chains for their own sustainability, in between you have some breathtaking action, fighting and pioneering production. It truly is one of a kind.

Watched horror flick The Nun.

It was ok, hardly The Excorcist but it had a few scary bits which made it watchable.

6/10

The Lion King - 3/10

Emotionless & pointless. The technology used is it’s downfall. Even the soundtrack has less of a impact.

Rewatched The Conjuring movies because I can't find anything good to watch looking back at every horror movie I've seen The Ring is easily the scariest one I've seen. Kept me up at night. The others looking back now are just meh I even seen the Annabelle films which I didn't watch before and meh they're not too scary.

I'm thinking about watching The Amytville Horror movie but I'm actually a little too scared from what I have heard about the events.

The witch 2016
5.5/10

The acting was good, atmosphere created was okay. But i didnt feel scared or thrilled at all.

Hellboy 2019
5/10

Not as good as the previous hell boy movies at all. Looked really rushed in parts and they tried to fit in many sequences which needed more time to develop. An average watch overall.

Super 30 had a lot of potential.

Could have been an incredible movie with some better treatment.

First hour of that movie was incredible. The setup part of the movie was just brilliant. Very few complaints there.

I thought it would build upon it but it didn't happen. Movie got a bit OTT and cringy too.

Using a wrong style of background music also didn't help.

Still a very enjoyable movie but it could have been so much better.

The Ocean's series is on Netflix, the last one I watched is Ocean's 8. The most recent movie I saw is Spiderman which has a Pakistani-British female actor in the cast :83:

Amityville is mediocre. Depends on what you are looking for. In recent times "It Follows", "Get Out" and "Hereditary" were good. Watch "Shining" if you haven't already, one of the greatest ever made. "The Thing" and "Alien" are classics which rely more on thrills and atmosphere. Also try "Descent", that movie is pretty underrated but turn off the lights and its great fun.

If you can bear subtitles then there is a wealth of horror movies in French, Spanish, Japanese and Korean cinema. The French new wave horror movies (movies like inside, martyrs, frontiers) can be a nerve jangling experience although they rely heavily on gore and violence. The original Spanish "REC" is an amazing movie.

I’ve seen all those movies you mentioned just seen Amityville Horror as well was average. Haven’t seen The Thing or Alien. All those other movies It Follows, Get Out, Hereditary were not really scary. I’m trying to find a movie that actually scares me.

The only movies I can say that for are The 2 Conjuring movies and first 2 Insidious movies and the scariest by far in my opinion was Ring but that’s it. Have yet to come across another movie as scary as The Ring. The Amityville Horror was such a disappointment I always heard people hyping it up, upon watching the movie and documentaries it is clear that almost everything about it is done for money. Even the story isn’t that scary. Like the Batsheba story in the first conjuring is more scary than that movie. All you have to do in order to not be possessed is leave the house? Lmao.

I don’t really like reading subtitles so don’t think I’ll watch any Japanese or Spanish, etc movies.

Someone please suggest a scary movie! I’m tired of watching all these movies just to be disappointed. Maybe watching too many horrors has built a resistance. I’m going to rewatch the ring to see if I still find it scary. It’s been a minute since I seen it.

A pretty interesting movie which many cricket fans may enjoy starring one of my favorite actors, John Hamm in a “Million Dollar Arm.” In short, it’s about a baseball sports agent trying to get his career back on track and discovers the game of cricket and how similar it is to baseball. He then goes to India to recruit some young cricket players to play baseball in America. What happens then is pretty interesting and at times comical - won’t give out any spoilers here but it’s well worth watching, with the main role brilliantly played by John Hamm.

Your loss because some of the best movies are foreign.

The Lion king - 0/10 - Waste of time and money, awful movie compared to the original. They completely ruined Timon and Pumba
