This thread is always active so why not make it sticky instead of "The funny pictures thread"

The thing (1982) exceptional special effects. well directed by John carpenter of Halloween fame. has a blood test scene which is unbearably tense. unfortunately came out with e.t which showed kind Aliens and so didn't do well.now is a sci-fi horror classic

anyone watched Shanghai???

Shanghai was disappointing. Very slow drama, it never got going. Abhay Deol is like Misbah of bollywood, slows down everything. It was so frustrating to see movie revolving around him and Imran had such a small role :(

I'd give it 4/10

Shanghai. Slow moving with no sense of direction (literally!). The topic and the acting was good, but the director messed it up. The story could have been portrayed in a much more interesting manner. Don't bother going to the theaters for this. 5/10.

Seen a couple of Brazilian flicks...both very different to each other...

2 Coelho's /2 Rabbits was released this year...I loved the style...it was really nicely directed and was for the most part a fun heist movie...however there are some serious parts to the plot which make absolutely no sense not because they are in any way deep because its a very straightforward movie but simply cos there is no logic to what is going on...but still worth watching....

Carandiru is a film about a notorious prison in Sao Paulo...its based on a book that a doctor wrote after he was stationed at the prison so focuses solely on the experiences and views of prisoners...thought it was a really good movie...

Saw The Dictator...I enjoyed it but have to say I preferred the reality elements of Cohen's previous films over this...the fact this was solely a story with actors only didnt make it a bad film but not nearly as good as Borat or Bruno...

Has anyone seen Raid yet?...hoping to see that at the cinema soon...

The Disappearance of Alice Creed

Pretty good thriller made with just 3 characters and a flat

Yep The Dictator was the last movie I saw and agree with your comments. Some good moments - like the Chaplin-esque speech at the end about the evils of democracy and pros of a dictatorship, and generally some good crude jokes.

But Cohen is primarily about putting his character for real in public like Ali G and Borat. No belly laughs unlike his previous movies where you typically came out of the Cinema hurting.....or maybe I'm just getting older.

The Raid Redemption? If yes, then yeah I have and its one of the best action movies ever!

Raid Redemption was an okay movie nothing special. I cant stand watching a man fighting with 20+ men at the same time and they are coming one by one not together to fight. When there are only one or two men involved in fight, they have Guns but when it is a gang fight there is no gun only kHANJAR / CHAKOO :yk

Outside the law

French/Algerian film about three brothers and how growing up with bloodshed around them they took part in the liberation of algeria against the french

Pretty good film, Enjoyable and well written and acted

8/10

Chocolate (2008)

Thai film from the director of ong bak and warrior king, about a special needs kid who grows up with special martial arts skills

Not a great film tbh The script was thin, acting poor and the martial arts good in patches but avge in some The only redeeming feature was the finale - brilliant choreographed and up there with the best

A decent but hollow effort overall

5/10

A better tomorrow

A john woo film starring chow yun fat. The films about two loving brothers whos relationship turns sour once the cop discovers his brother is a gangster. Can they forget the past and once again become close?

A exceptional film, great storyline and some immensely deep and memorable scenes The action is top quality too

Prometheus. 8/10. I went to watch this movie with childhood memories of alien expecting horror and non stop action between slimy creatures and humans instead i got a suspenseful and thought provoking tale. The fear factor came form the vastness and isolation of the planet and the feeling that something bad was just around the corner.

went to cinema watch red lights interesting film.

and batman begins, desperately waiting for dark knight rises

Senna - Wow. Sat down to watch it because I was bored but am glad I watched it now. I didn't know anything about him before and I hate F1 but this was such a good documentary! He was a true champion!

I saw the devil 8/10. Pretty good revenge movie, but really violent.

***QUESTION!! SPOILER ALERT..DONT READ BEYOND THIS POINT IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE****

Does the psycho kill the sister-in-law at the end? or he just cuts her up and left on the street to bleed to death?

Yeah he does, hence why he's boasting that he's the actual 'winner' in their cat and mouse game. In his sick mind, it's who can hurt the feelings of the other more determined who came out on top.

Saw Ill Manors last night...overall a good movie but tries to fit in too many stories all at once...despite that shortcoming its quite a raw film in showing London's dark underbelly...it tries focusing on what creates these criminals too and Plan B provides a good soundtrack...good debut by him...

Saw O Invasor which is a gritty underrated Brazilian flick...basic premise is a couple of business owners get a hitman to knock off their business partner and the consequences that follow...the direction is really good...there are plotholes but it achieves what it sets out to do which is to show the dark side of Sao Paulo...the soundtrack is brilliantly used in the movie...

Lol sounds like I might be fine :-) ...hopefully get to see it this week...be pissed if I don't see it at the cinema...

Lol not an age thing :-) ...SPOILER ALERT...

I think the scene that confirmed to me that it wasn't as good was the scene when hes on the helicopter...I would have so much have preferred to see some genuinely freaked out Americans and not actors in that situation...

Oh ok. Thanks man. So that sucks he lost his wife and sister-in-law. Apparently, he didn't do a good job with...whatever he was doing.

Anyway, hook me up with other recommendations, something thats not too old thou but at the sametime awesome to watch.

He promised to make him suffer and along the way it became apparent it was becoming an obssession where as he could have finished him off. A sick film, nevertheless.

I wrote a list specifically for you when you asked for recommendations.
It's either this page or the last one.

It's either this page or the last one.

Ill check them out..let me know if you see any other movie (foreign) that's worth watching.

More people should watch foreign movies, the originals one are awesome.

Memories of Murder - Brilliant Korean crime drama and a must watch for those into foreign films.

I've seen hundreds and hundreds...tell me what you like and I'll try and recommend but from the little list I made they were all action orientated and recommended.

Could have a foreign film recommendations thread. Its hard to hear about some of these great movies around the world.

I'll have to find it when im not so tired. Doing worldwide cinema as a fill in paper at uni in a few weeks.

Yea i enjoyed the Yellow Sea. Make sure you get the right sub titles though.

Korea has quite a few good crime thrillers and revenge flicks.

Watched Wanderlust the other day, it was ok. Paul Rudd was good, Jennifer Aniston was sexy as usual. The movie had a few laughs, story wasn't that strong but it's a shame they had to censor her topless scene :moyo
Overall it was strictly an average comedy. 6.5/10

Rowdy Rathore - nothing special.

Music was decent, comedy was ok, action was decent, but the storyline was pretty bad.

And that is why I'll give it a 5.5/10.

Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (2011) - Hindi

The IMBD rating is 7.1 of this movie. Facebook lovers will love this movie.

Devil's Double

Part Biopic/Part Fiction story of Uday Saddam Hussein

It was a racy thriller with some fine performances(especially from the lead actor)

^^^ Yup, Koreans have definitely produced some of the finest films over the last decade in particular when it comes to thrillers and melodrama.

Korean Films i highly recommend. Some are Brilliant and some just good films.

JSA
A Bittersweet Life
Oldboy
Sympathy for Mr Vengeance
The Chaser
Memories of Murder
The Yellow Sea
My Sassy Girl
Secret Reunion
The Man From Nowhere
Brotherhood of War
71 into the fire
The Good the Bad and the Weird
The Host
I Saw the Devil

If anybody knows of any other good Korean films that are not on this list let me know as Id love to watch it.

Memories of Murder - Was planning to watch it last weekend but watched the footie instead.

Meant to be a top film. I'm looking forward to watching it.

Does it make your Brilliant list Space cat or just the good film list?

They definitely reinvigorated the Thriller genre for me as great thrillers coming out of Hollywood are few and far between these days. The strong Hollywood influence with a few original ideas and uniquely Korean spin turns out great.

and Oldboy... sheeeeeesh i'd never seen anything like that before.

Brilliant. Arguably the best Korean film.

Song Kang Ho is a fantastic actor.

An excellent list and those that are into War films should look no further than Brotherhood Of War.

You've covered most of the best ones but some that aren't on the list:

Failan
Friend
A Moment to Remember
No Mercy
Mother
3 Iron
Fighter in the Wind
Musa
The Classic

There's still plenty more and you may have even seen some of these but if you haven't they're very very good.

one of the top Korean films , many of my korean colleagues r proud of it :23: ..

but one problem with korean crime films are that they wont have any direct conclusion in the end, most of the times they will leave the end to audiences iamgination

Awesome thanks!

I am aware of some of these films and even have a few but i don't think i've seen any though.

Mother is one i am particular interested in. Im pretty sure i have to write an essay on it in a month or so.

Yea you do get some ambiguous endings sometimes.

However Memories of Murder is based quite accurately on real events and... Highlight for Spoiler: they never found the killer to this day

Gonna watch Maya Memsaab (1993) tonight.

Watched it many years ago and I think this movie is one of the best Srk movies. Awesome acting and few nice songs as well as a Train Scene :D (Adults only)

Watched Fright Night last night and I kinda enjoyed it. Watched it for Colin Farrell and he did not disappoint at all. Although I hate vampire movies, this wasn't too bad. I'd give it a 7/10

Yeah I like that.

I'm involved in an informal film club, so a movie with an ambiguous ending makes for good discussion :afridi

Mother is very very good and has The Man from Nowhere's Bin Won as the leading actor. Some of the others are actually well crafted meoldrama's and if you're in to them then look no further than A Moment to Remember.

Thats about Alzheimer's right?

Ya'll need to start a separate thread for these foreign movies, because this thread tends to get populated a lot and the list gets buried.

Some good movies mentioned here BTW!

Maybe when i get some time i'll make a thread with foreign/independent movie reviews that people can add to.

Or if somebody else wants to they can.

I'm going to dig out the 'world cinema' thread which in_cutter started when I get time.

13 (2010)

A naive young man assumes a dead man's identity and finds himself embroiled in an underground world of power, violence, and chance where men gamble behind closed doors on the lives of other men.

Good movie for those who like watching Death Games 7/10

Rampart (2011)

Possibly one of the worst ever English movie that i have ever watched(couldn't watch beyond 40 mins, have to resort back to 21 jump street for getting my mood back).

Rampart without a doubt a Borefest to the core with super slow, muddy and confused screenplay/plot. There is virtually nothing good about this badly made excuse for a film.

frenzy, Hitchcock at his morbid best., scary thrilling funny all in one

Watched American Reunion yesterday and it was a pretty good movie. Lots of laughs and a good comedy movie. 8/10

The Amazing Spiderman

Nice. Very good acting from the new actor.

Raid: The Redemption - Amazing action movie. Some of the most memorable action scenes I have seen in a while.

Project X (2012) a Comedy Movie. My rating 7/10

3 high school seniors throw a birthday party to make a name for themselves. As the night progresses, things spiral out of control as word of the party spreads.

Although I don't often watch comedy movies, I thought it was a good one. Don't blind trust your friends because some time they put you in a lot of trouble :yk

By the way why in every comedy movie, they must have a Birthday or High School PARTY?

Death Sentence .. underrated Revenge movie.. kinda like Taken

I liked it.. 7/10
