anyone watched Shanghai???
anyone watched Shanghai???
Shanghai was disappointing. Very slow drama, it never got going. Abhay Deol is like Misbah of bollywood, slows down everything. It was so frustrating to see movie revolving around him and Imran had such a small role
I'd give it 4/10
Saw The Dictator...I enjoyed it but have to say I preferred the reality elements of Cohen's previous films over this...the fact this was solely a story with actors only didnt make it a bad film but not nearly as good as Borat or Bruno...QUOTE]
Yep The Dictator was the last movie I saw and agree with your comments. Some good moments - like the Chaplin-esque speech at the end about the evils of democracy and pros of a dictatorship, and generally some good crude jokes.
But Cohen is primarily about putting his character for real in public like Ali G and Borat. No belly laughs unlike his previous movies where you typically came out of the Cinema hurting.....or maybe I'm just getting older.
Seen a couple of Brazilian flicks...both very different to each other...
2 Coelho's /2 Rabbits was released this year...I loved the style...it was really nicely directed and was for the most part a fun heist movie...however there are some serious parts to the plot which make absolutely no sense not because they are in any way deep because its a very straightforward movie but simply cos there is no logic to what is going on...but still worth watching....
Carandiru is a film about a notorious prison in Sao Paulo...its based on a book that a doctor wrote after he was stationed at the prison so focuses solely on the experiences and views of prisoners...thought it was a really good movie...

Has anyone seen Raid yet?...hoping to see that at the cinema soon...
I saw the devil 8/10. Pretty good revenge movie, but really violent.
***QUESTION!! SPOILER ALERT..DONT READ BEYOND THIS POINT IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE****
Does the psycho kill the sister-in-law at the end? or he just cuts her up and left on the street to bleed to death?
Raid Redemption was an okay movie nothing special. I cant stand watching a man fighting with 20+ men at the same time and they are coming one by one not together to fight. When there are only one or two men involved in fight, they have Guns but when it is a gang fight there is no gun only kHANJAR / CHAKOO![]()

Lol not an age thing...SPOILER ALERT...
I think the scene that confirmed to me that it wasn't as good was the scene when hes on the helicopter...I would have so much have preferred to see some genuinely freaked out Americans and not actors in that situation...
Lol sounds like I might be fine...hopefully get to see it this week...be pissed if I don't see it at the cinema...
Spoilers
Yeah he does, hence why he's boasting that he's the actual 'winner' in their cat and mouse game. In his sick mind, it's who can hurt the feelings of the other more determined who came out on top.
SPOILER***
Oh ok. Thanks man. So that sucks he lost his wife and sister-in-law. Apparently, he didn't do a good job with...whatever he was doing.
Anyway, hook me up with other recommendations, something thats not too old thou but at the sametime awesome to watch.
He promised to make him suffer and along the way it became apparent it was becoming an obssession where as he could have finished him off. A sick film, nevertheless.
I wrote a list specifically for you when you asked for recommendations.
It's either this page or the last one.
Ill check them out..let me know if you see any other movie (foreign) that's worth watching.
More people should watch foreign movies, the originals one are awesome.
Yea i enjoyed the Yellow Sea. Make sure you get the right sub titles though.
Korea has quite a few good crime thrillers and revenge flicks.
I preferred The Chaser tho...
^^^ Yup, Koreans have definitely produced some of the finest films over the last decade in particular when it comes to thrillers and melodrama.
Memories of Murder - Was planning to watch it last weekend but watched the footie instead.
Meant to be a top film. I'm looking forward to watching it.
Does it make your Brilliant list Space cat or just the good film list?
Korean Films i highly recommend. Some are Brilliant and some just good films.

An excellent list and those that are into War films should look no further than Brotherhood Of War.
You've covered most of the best ones but some that aren't on the list:
Failan
Friend
A Moment to Remember
No Mercy
Mother
3 Iron
Fighter in the Wind
Musa
The Classic
There's still plenty more and you may have even seen some of these but if you haven't they're very very good.
one of the top Korean films , many of my korean colleagues r proud of it..
but one problem with korean crime films are that they wont have any direct conclusion in the end, most of the times they will leave the end to audiences iamgination

Yeah I like that.
I'm involved in an informal film club, so a movie with an ambiguous ending makes for good discussion![]()
Awesome thanks!
I am aware of some of these films and even have a few but i don't think i've seen any though.
Mother is one i am particular interested in. Im pretty sure i have to write an essay on it in a month or so.
You're the Shaw Bros fan if I remember, correctly?
The username gives it away I suppose...!
Mother is very very good and has The Man from Nowhere's Bin Won as the leading actor. Some of the others are actually well crafted meoldrama's and if you're in to them then look no further than A Moment to Remember.
Thats about Alzheimer's right?
A naive young man assumes a dead man's identity and finds himself embroiled in an underground world of power, violence, and chance where men gamble behind closed doors on the lives of other men.
saw Chinatown.
WHAT
A
MOVIE!!
3 high school seniors throw a birthday party to make a name for themselves. As the night progresses, things spiral out of control as word of the party spreads.
