Blinded by the Light

Not the most well made movie and clearly had a low budget but has a very interesting story based loosely on the life of Sarfraz Manzoor

Basically about a British Pakistanis boy in the 1980s facing skinhead and going through an identity crisis who goes through a self discovery process through the music of Bruce Springsteen.

Wouldn’t put high on anyone’s list but def worth a watch

Mr. Malik the father’s role by Kulvinder is done well esp the time he can’t get a job, he captured the emotions well, always liked him since goodness gracious me days.

The kid Vivek has long way to go though, also considering the trash Gurinder Chaddha has been making after Bend it Like beckham, this was way better and mature from her.

Ford vs ferrari.

Ppl shud go for the movie without reading abt it and it will please you, Matt Damon and Bale as usual great actors and have done a great job.

Racing scenes are good, and no sides are taken but by the end of it you will hate one company.

7.5/10

This year has been great for buddy movies after Once upon a time and now this.

Incredible movie, I enjoyed it a great deal; may arguably be the best car movie I've ever seen. The narrative is certainly helped by the fact that it was a true story and the depiction was fairly accurate on the whole. The racing scenes for sure was amazing, the camera work was outstanding and the shots which was used to make you feel as if you were a part of the action itself; visually beautiful to, sure it benefits from the modern tech but I still feel it was done really well. Even if you're not into cars or engineering, the performances of Damon and Bale make it worth the watch; the dedication to their craft is to be admired, and btw Miles is from my home town ;) local legend and motor sport hero even if there are a few screws loose, you get that with the geniuses aha, I'd give it about an 8.5 for my personal enjoyment.

Yes great year for buddy movies, Once upon a time was so much fun! have there any other buddy releases besides these two ?

I am curious to see ready or not because it has been acclaimed critically when on initial glance you'd think it would be average, Ad Astra was so enjoyable for me I feel it was so so good

I liked ready or not but you gotta be into gothic..I thought it was fun..

Watched Spider-Man: Far From Home. One of the better MCU movies.

Planning to watch The Irishman today.

Finished watching blow on Netflix great movie and as my fellow above poster mention I will be looking to watch Irishman next

Remember (2015): Very good one.. It's a story about 90 year old dementia patient going to kill a man who is responsible for his families death during Hitler's time..

Knives Out (8/10) very entertaining movie although it could’ve done without some of the centrist politics

Knives out 8/10 as well

Daniel Craig and Toni Collete shine , hopefully he will take up comedy in future.

Excellent direction, people into mysteries esp novel kind should watch this.

Rian Johnson should stay away from star wars kind and stick to mysteries, he has been excellent in all others!

It was a pleasant surprise when I first saw it without knowing much about it. Plummer is great and the tension building until the final plot twist is done really well.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.. 4/10. Didn't feel like a Tarantino movie at all apart from the sets and the final 10 minutes.

Queen and slim 6/10 , very poor couldn’t keep me glued and tried very hard to mimic y tu mama tambien with flow of story.. and Bonnie and Clyde with the story..(as said in the movie itself).

Colombiana I always wanted to see that movie never got a chance finally made some time on Friday was not impressed thought it would be better

Ratsasan. What a masterpiece. Can't wait for it to be remade in Hindi

Masterpiece?.:misbah3

It was full of cliches, could see the "twists" coming a mile away, usual unnecessary senti desi stuff, not to mention the prosthetic done by 5 year olds in an arts and crafts class.

The Old Man and the Gun.

Only watched it as rotten tomatoes gave it 93%.

Was a waste of time. 3/10

Wind River 7/10
Watched it last night because it falls in my favourite film genre, the Mystery Crime Thriller.
Was ok with some spectacular scenes of the harsh weather of Wyoming but not one that I would recommend for its story or screenplay.

Jumanji 7/10 , was so much fun , love that characters don’t take themselves seriously...
Rock , Kevin, Jack black form an amazing trip..

Rogue One, which finally came to a free channel.

One of the most boring films I have ever seen. Never expected Star Wars to be so uninspiring. No engaging characters. The one moment I enjoyed was the CGI Peter Cushing.

What really? Imo it was the best star wars in the last decade..

I feel that the so called fans want to purposely over hype the spin off movies just to undermine Disney’s Star was sequals.

I thought it was the best 'Star Wars'. My favourite moment were the last few seconds with Vader.

Certainly better than the tragedy that was episode 1,2, and 3. Not forgetting the totally uninspiring reboot with episode 7. The gutter flop of episode 8.

I plan to watch episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker, only because I'm forced to - no pun intended.

So it looks like the latest Star Wars is receiving average reviews. The old ones are decent. The most recent from (Phantom Menace onwards) are overhyped. Time to can this cash cow?

Don't trust Robert he's one of the old mucker types am pretty sure he gave force awakens rave reviews when it was a copy and paste job but with modern tech, should have been billed as a remake of a new hope. Rogue One was more creative with great execution to.

If you love murder mysteries be sure to check out Knives Out, it is based on works by Agatha Christie. I enjoyed it a fair amount personally, the pace you don't expect to be thrilling as it is more dialogue and character oriented but this allows for the narratives overall development, hadn't seen a movie from this genre in a long time especially a modern release.

Rock is Salman Khan of Hollywood.

Sallu bhai wishes he could do expressions like that and be as fit as the Rock.

Only thing Sallu Bhai does better is put his hands in pocket and dance.. and yeah touching nose as well..

I thought it was excellent, I have a massive love for such kind! Daniel Craig was in a diff avtar..

Nerd culture is cancer

Thats a poor statement , there are movie nerds as well that study diff kind of cinema, Tarantino being one.

Scientific nerds if you are talking about also aren’t poor, they forced sci fi movies to be better , to not have sound in space (firefly, gravity) like Star Wars did..

You dont get it,what iam saying was these superstars only draw boxoffice but they have no content in their movies.

True but few of Rock movies are very entertaining for me.. unable to like Salman’s though, Govinda though I would agree absolutely has nothing in movies but absolutely entertaining as well.

Salman has few entertaining movies like Andaaz Apna Apna I know Aamir nailed it but Salman also did well.

Watch Crooked House, also based on an Agatha Christie novel with an all round great cast especially Glenn Close and Terrence Stamp. I haven't watched Knives Out yet but seems like a similar movie from the trailers.

Noted will defn watch it.. any other recommendations for Hitchcock kinda movies? In any language..

I haven’t seen a movie since early 2000s, but since I and my old friends used to enjoy mafia films we started watching Irishman the other day, but the Movie was moving very slowly forward even after 40 minutes or so, we just gave up and we didn’t have time to sit there 3+ hours.

Irishman is the typical formulaic gangster cinema that Scorcese, Pacino and DeNiro have been doing all their lives. The novelty factor is lost. Seen em once, seen them all. The movie is a total snoozer!

The rise of Skywalker

Heartbroken. Deceived. JJ Abrams has committed high treason for destroying Lucas’s work

Lucas almost destroyed his own work with the previous prequel trilogy, he was lucky the story was good but on rewatching them I realized how badly they have aged..

As if George Lucas’ garbage trilogy wasn’t awful apart from the third one which was ok. This is what I meant by nerd culture is cancer. Imagine being emotionally invested in mediocrity like this or the MCU

Uncut Gems. A roller coaster of a movie, reels you in from the first scene and doesn't let go with an excellent performance by Sandler to boot.

However from the reviews and opinions it seems like a very polarizing movie, people either love it or hate it.

Those who hated it say that its a very nerve wracking and draining movie with characters that have no redeeming qualities and literally made them feel emotionally and physically sick. I personally take that as a positive if a movie accomplishes what it sets out to do.

Parasite

Bong Joon-ho does it again with anther brilliant social satire. First half is hilarious and so much fun to watch that one can't help feeling guilty at taking pleasure out of the machinations by the Kim clan as they make complete fools out of the rich and aloof Park clan. Midway, the movie takes a very sharp and dark turn and devolves into its edge of seat suspenseful, violent and action filled second half. Only a master craftsman can flip a movie on its head and still keep it relevant. The hip societal inequality undercurrents are probably giving the movie an even bigger buzz then most good Korean movies usually get, but I'm glad its happening to one of its best auteur. 'Memories of Murder' will still remain my favorite of Bong Joon-ho's movies but this one is a close second. Movie of the year for me!

Irishman

Scorsese at his most subdued and mature self. No flashy camera shots or Rockn'Roll soundtracks like Goodfellas or Casino. No hilarity or absurd comedic turns like The King of Comedy or The Wolf of Wallstreet. This movie is closest in nature to his 2016 movie 'Silence', the story of two Portuguese missionaries as they go on a mission to find their missing mentor. Still, despite the lack of vigor and pop that has become synonymous with most of his works, Irishman is perhaps his most personal movie. While their is a mob story in play, the movie is really about aging, loss, loneliness and ultimately one's own finality. Highly recommended!

Marriage Story

I'm not into these types of movies. You know the type where a couple falls in love, couple fall apart. The characters follow a very predictable arch and eventually, no matter whatever the odds are, they come together in a teary eyed emotionally fulfilling ending. Not this one. Because Noah Baumbach is a child of the 70's auteur cinema when downbeat sad endings were the norm. This movie belongs to that era and what an era that was. The golden age of American cinema. Strong performances by the two leads especially Adam Driver, who is just amazing. A piercing look into a marriage falling apart. Getting divorced is a (female dog) and this movie holds back no punches. I expect this one to win a lot of awards, unless the Academy is still not over their Netflix bias. Not a cry fest, but guaranteed to jab at your heart and leave a scar.

Excellent movie, just excellent, the whole movie was like some pressure cooker situation.

I didn't know Scorsese was the executive producer, and very well acted as well but Safdie Brothers should get the credit.

Also A24 is right now is the best production house, they are taking all the right moves!

Uncut Gems 9/10

Richard Jewel 7/10 , while it was great felt it took one side way too much which is ok considering what happened, Clint eastwood still has it though, the guy is able to evolve so much as a director eventhough he was an actor is remarkable!

Jumanji 2. I liked how additional characters were incorporated, but lacked the level of humour of the 1st part.

Still an entertaining movie, more so by the fact the cinemas in Dubai blow the London cinemas out of the water.

Watched these films recently:

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
The Brothers Grimsby
The Fate of the Furious.

You should watch a good movie as well for once. You don’t even have the excuse that you don’t have time because you have clearly been watching a lot of movies

Crawl - very competant humans vs alligators saga. Enjoyed it.

The Nightingale- From the director of The Babadook. ufff not for the faint hearted but loved it nonetheless.

Feel free to give me names of good movies.

Again, good or bad are pretty subjective.

DeadBall, Article 15 was very good but stopped short from being great... due to certain aspects of directions.

Although honestly its amazing Anubahav sinha who made the mindless commercial movies before has completely taken 180 degree turn and made very relevant movies offlate.

Also Loved the background story though.. very apt reminded me of days when I used to read so much leftists magazines, nothing has changed.

Article 15

7.7/10

Cinematography- 10/10
Direction 7/10
Acting 8/10 , Ayushman imo was the weakest here.. among main characters. All the police characters were excellent.
Music 6/10
Script 9/10

Happiness (1998) 8/10, black comedy at it's absolute best. Best dark comedy I have seen along with 'In Bruges'(2008).

I am curious to see ready or not because it has been acclaimed critically when on initial glance you'd think it would be average, Ad Astra was so enjoyable for me I feel it was so so good

Ready or not is pretty fun actually. I watched it only for Samara Weaving though. She has tremendous potential, hope she doesn't get typecasted as a scream queen as she had already appeared in quite a few horror comedy/slasher type films.

My top 5 movies of 2019 in no particular order.

The Lighthouse
Knives Out
For Sama (Documentary type and one of the best of its kind easily)
Monos (Your life isn't complete if you haven't seen this one, perhaps the best of the year)
Midsommar

However I must admit I might have missed a few as I had a pretty busy year and couldn't watch too many. I haven't watched Parasite or Uncut Gems yet.

Parasite -
Had to go to other side if city to see but was so worth it.

It’s hard to point the genre of the movie but even in the intense climax there is a German joke about food, typical Bong Jon -Ho kind

And i think rightly as said by everyone it’s the movie of the year even for me, enjoyed it a lot.
South Korean movies are becoming more entertaining than European ones.

Watch their feature attempt "Good Time", they got the ball rolling and got Pattinson to be reckoned with as a serious actor, a thrill ride too.

His game? As in his choice of roles? He is defn not the best actor though.. Vicky and Rao are way better but he makes his movies for a great viewing.. esp on big screen and yeah I guess thats why its reaching to a larger set of people, Dreamgirl was hilarious esp for Indians..

Most are somewhat family oriented as well, very Hrishikesh Mukherjee like..

Yeah he his bringing some taboo subjects to the forefront in a rather funny manner which makes it easier for the general public to digest. Could be heralded as a pioneer and trendsetter in a few years if all goes well. Can also let more suitable and capable actors play some roles he isn't quite equipped to play.

Yeah his next two projects -one is with Amitabh and another is a prt 2 of a movie which he is gay. Part one was Shub mangal savdhan(a tamil remake by same director). The part 2 has Jitendra Kumar who is a big name among webseries.. if that movie does well then yeah defn ..

Apparently he is taking a break after that which might not work in his favor
