GOAT - nice trackback :ibutt

He chooses bad movies, doesn't mean he's a poor actor.

Even blokes like Pacino and DN have made terrible films.

Agreed. I think he is one of the better Hollywood actors and can play almost any character/roles perfectly (just like Will Smith).
Just bad choice of movies.

I did like the Natl. Treasure series though.

they were very entertaining, no doubt.

Finding Forrestor - Good Will Hunting meets Boyz N the Hood. Strong performance by the man himself, Sean Connory.

except the black kid was not a genius, and it had very little to do with the 'hood.

Black kid was a pretty good writer for 16 and there were a fair few hood scenes. Fair enough, it wasn't a mashup of the two films but it draws on a lot of similar themes.

Interestingly, the director for Finding Forrester and Good Will Hunting is the same person, Gus Van Sant. I think he likes the prodigy theme.

I thought Finding Forrester was ok. It had potential, but didn't really live up to it. Good Will Hunting, on the other hand, was great. Matt Damon was pretty amazing in that film.

Agreed.

Fast 5. Had the typical cheesy lines like its predecessors, but overall, a good movie. Probably the best in the series.

Nicolas Cage

Probably the worst actor ever.

Nic Cage is pretty bad, I agree.

hate nic cage..

^^^ u guys kidding? he's pulled off some quality performances over time.. yup he's been in a fair few gay movies as well, but to say the above, means you either haven't covered a lot of his material, or have forgotten, or you just have different interpretations of what good acting is..

having said that, he's prob done as much ***** films as good ones, so I guess easy to judge based on that, though this shouldn't override the top performances he has done which have shown his capability = not "the worst actor ever"

so stringing together some of his most out there performances makes him the worst ever?

And if someone thinks Nic Cage is terrible I feel sorry for them

Agreed. I think he is one of the better Hollywood actors and can play almost any character/roles perfectly

^^^ exactly.. y'all have listed some examples e.g. Bad Lieutenant, Lord of War, Leaving Las Vegas, Kick Ass, Matchstick Mean, but also Raising Arizona (old) but can't believe no one mentioned Adaptation. Great screen play, and lot of skill to pull off the dual role..

Fast five ::::> v. Good

Last weekend I watched "Fast & Furious Five". Probably about a 7.5. Same as the others. Lotsa action. Good to see The Rock acting in it.

I watched Fast Five a few days ago. Garbage movie....

fast five was okay... but ppl are hyping it as if it was th best movie ever.. wasnt anythin special..atleast to me

What are you guys on? there is a reason why the movie has already grossed over $4 million and is the biggest movie of 2011 so far. The movie was great. I loved it

Of all the reviews above which range from it's the best film on earth to it's garbage, I probably sit in the middle. Would agree with the 4th Quote (Foozee's) the most.. was ok, watchable, not as special as all are making it out to be....

Tokyo Drift was the best.

^ yeah haven't seen the whole series (not a big fan of cheesy one liner films, though who doesn't like seeing some phat rides), but of the 2-3 I've seen, I didn't mind Tokyo drift (although seems many hail the recent 2 as the best)..

as a big fan of Korean cinema i'd like to put forward some films which i really enjoyed:

The Chaser, Brotherhood of War, The Good The Bad and The Weird,
Fighter in he Wind, OldBoy, A tale of Two Sisters, Musa, Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, 3-Iron and recently The Man from Nowhere.

The Good The Bad and The Weird - As a few in this thread had recommended Korean cinema, I came across this film and thought to check it out...

Am glad I did :) very enjoyable, well made (was expecting some low budget flick), decent characters, with some humour..

will look out for some more Korean flicks in the future..

how is Nicolas Cage bad actor??????????

his acting in Face off was awesome........good in Bangkok Dangerous :afridi

gonna watch.. I saw the Devil..recommended by someone here.. lets see how it goes

You will always remember this as the day that you almost caught Captain! Jack! Sparrow!"

^ Who knows!

The soul shivers when the two are on the top of the deck 'flying' against the Atlantic wind.

I don't think you two are referring to the same scene ...

gonna watch.. I saw the Devil..recommended by someone here.. lets see how it goes

You will not be disappointed...be prepared for some insane realistic violence.

Have you seen Oldboy? The same lead actor plays the serial killer in I Saw The Devil.

Seen quite a few in recent months - had some spare time!

Robin Hood - I was not expecting much but surprisingly really enjoyed it. Good acting, story and awesome soundtrack.

Fast and Furious 5 - Great action film and it has the Rock so nuff said.

The King's speech - Great story, excellent acting by Colin Firth and Helen Bonham Carter. I enjoyed the movie a lot.

3 days later - One of the films of the year and a complete surprise. It is a Russel Crowe movie that I saw in the video shop. I was not expecting much but it is a superb thriller.

Patialia House - Absolute BS of a movie. Avoid at all costs. Bollywood has made so much better in recent years and this drags it back down again.

The Tourist - Johnny Depp movie with Angela Jolie. It was a slick movie but overall quite poor and lacking.

The American - Not what I expected. It was a slow burner and not all out action movie. It is almost artistic but leaves lots of unanswered questions.

Machete - My favourite film I have seen in recent times!! What a greeat action movie. The best line of the movie is 'Machete don't text'

Watched 'insidious' in the cinemas yesterday, it was fun as it had the whole cinema jumping, even i was shocked a few times. after the first 'scare' my mate wanted to go home :)) and after the 2nd he went on his bb, found the storyline and spoilt the ending.

I saw a horror comedy named "Tucker and Dale Vs Evil".

jolly good fun. turns the "Teens go to hillbilly land to get killed one-by-one" story on its head.

insidious- not scary but quite well made and the music in some parts is really creepy 7/10

Pirates 4 - Unbelievably bad 2/10

It was brilliant! A must watch! Salman and Aamir are absolutely Hilarious!

The dialogues in that movie are brilliant. Just one of a kind. I think I have most of the lines memorized (proally because I have watched it a gazillion times). We seriously need a thread where people can post their favourite lines from Andaaz Apna Apna.

I watched a few movies over the past week.

Insidious - I enjoyed the movie. It was scary in parts, BUT it had enough to keep one intrigued and interested in watching what happens next. I thought the ending was too abrupt, BUT I think that has more to do with them wanting Insidious 2.

The Trial - It was alright. Nothing special. The ending was predictable.

Beastly - The concept was good, although the total effect of the movie was too childish. Also, at times the parts were unreasonable and unrealistic.

I SAW THE DEVIL - Korean movie with subtitles..............awesome movie...........very graphics....18+ nudity..............

cop revenge killer who killed his pregnant wife..........

THOR.

Took Mrs Robert, basically so that she could perv on Idris-Elba-out-of-The-Wire dressed as a Norse god.

Totally different concept but what is it the violence like in comparison to Ichi the killer?

What's put me off watching it is the supposed extreme extent of nudity.

The others i suggested are probably better than this movie, which though good, is not a too serious film.

Just go with it. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston.

But jeez, Brooklyn Decker. Oh my word. What a goddess. :91:

Nudity?! Hardly any. I
According to reviews, it is probably the most violent movie ever (although I think nothing will beat Passion of the Christ for violence)

I have not seen Ichi The Killer yet.

Chalo Dilli ...refreshingly good ..vinay as usual brilliant and lara are suprisingly good as well

Sounds good to me then!

Ichi the Killer probably more violent than Passion of the Christ.

Andaz apna apna :D

greatest. movie. ever. made.

Kool... I will then look out for this. I'm VERY selective over any Bollywood films I watch because I hardly watch em and for many years I refused to as I felt they were all superficial BS, but changed my mind the last decade when I started to see certain films (Dil Chata he, Lagaan, 3 Diwaare, 3 Idiots etc). So I only will watch one if it comes highly recommended.. cheers

Ok, nice - given it was my first intro to Korean films, think it was a good start... and yes, comedy was def a big component of the film... but will look forward to some of the others you mentioned... where might I find em? (I doubt Sky movies will show much of them although I did see the one we're discussing on Sky movies..)

Good, Bad and the Weird is a must watch. Hilarious movie and awesome action.

Also just watched On Stranger Tides. This has to be my 2nd best Pirates movie after the original. Go see this movie.

watched the new pirates movie in 3d ..not as good as the 1st some good scenes though . 6/10

Insidous ... Its pretty good . Story and direction wise. but acting in some parts was below average which doesn't let immersiveness prevail throughout.

Just watched Glory Road...probably one of the best sports movies I've ever seen (and sports movies generally suck). If you are a basketball fan, then its a must watch. Basketball movies arent that good but this one was excellent.

btw, Invictus is still my favorite sports movie...

Best Bollywood movie made this year is "Stanley Ka Dabba". Also, watch "The President is Coming" - an awesome comedy starring Bush.

Finally, the best bollywood movie of the decade is "Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi" by Sudhir Mishra. It is probably among the best movies made in the decade - a must watch for anyone who watches Bollywood movies/understands Hindi and hasn't seen this.

'Out of the Ashes' - documentary story about the Afghan team's failed qualification campaign for world cup 2011. Very good film - I'd recommend it to anyone who likes an underdog story, any cricket fans and anyone interest in knowing how cricket in Afghanistan is affecting the country.

Now I really want to see 'Fire in Babylon' about the great West Indies team of the 70s and 80s. Anyone seen it yet?

chalo dilli is also very good ...

Thor was nice ..looking forad to kungfu panda 2 and green lantern (loved the promos)

Hangover2 is actually getting bad review by the critiques.

Idk why though. it looks hilarious. Maybe because the plot is almost exact same as the previous one.

cinema, abhi dekh kar ghar poncha huun.

when he throws the speedboat's anchor :)) :)) :))

fair enough, will maintain radio silence ;-)
