The Aviator

Some marathon this movie was. Got interesting in the last hour or so, but not a movie that interested me. Yet Leo's acting is flawless, and worth a watch if your a Leo fan.

6/10 for me.

Superman Returns

Not that big into superhero flicks, but this one caught my eye as I was flipping the channels. The guy who played Superman/Clark Kent did a good job (especially as Clark Kent, his clumsiness and the highly embarrassed "sorrryy.." were hilarious at times) - he did well in there, was definitely exciting to watch.

Yet overall, it was a lack-luster flick. Marrying off Lois to the guy who plays Cyclops in x-men, yet their son is actually superman's child - and during all this Lois is still weird around Clark? :20: (Altho the actress did a swell job!)

Action scenes were good - esp. the plane bit in the beginning (and preventing that car-crash only to find the lady drool over him - that was neat! :D)

Googled a bit and found out that they've changed the leading actor for superman in the next movie. Dumb move, the previous actor looked like classic Superman, should have stuck with him. Hope the plot is better for the next movie...

I'd still give it a 7/10 though :)

The Fountain

Couldn't grasp it in the first time, might have to watch it a second time to get a hold of it. Blends 3 stories into one i suppose, and is quite complicated right from the beginning. Though its a movie in which great thought & effort has been put into.

6/10 is the initial opinion.

Watched Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol

Amazing action and acting by Tom Cruise.

Mission Impossible was awful. Went with 3 people and consensus was that it was rubbish.

4/10

Going through the work of Stephen Chow again.

Kung Fu Hustle - 8/10

Shaolin Soccer - 8/10

The God of Cookery - 7/10

A laugh riot if ever there was one, his films leave me teary-eyed and in stitches.

don't really watch movies at the moment, surprised i got through this garbage in a short space of time
Kaiji: The Ultimate Gambler
6/10, anime was way better, the movie condenses two seasons of anime and messes up the storyline
killer elite
6/10, random watch. halfway through the movie, realise its set in the 80's.. :? anti-habibi film
tokyo sonata
5/10, pretty depressing movie

MI4 - Ghost protocol

Very much enjoyed the start and middle of the film- the action sequences throughout the film esp the scenes with cruise scaling the burj were wow!

Few scene where paula looked very wow but the sequences in mumbai involving anil kapoor were poor though and dragged for me - couldve done with a bit more pace and zip. (I have no idea why anil accepted this role!!) The villain also barely appeared at any great length- couldve done with exploring his motives more and giving him more screentime

Overall ok film made better by the great action sequences

7/10

Pusher 2 & 3

Enjoyed pusher 2 more than 3 which was slow moving and bereft of any real action. Beware of the ending to 3. The slicing and dicing made me very queasy

7/10

The Unborn.

Nothing much to talk about here. Just a random scary plot, with a happy ending.

4/10

Shes Out of My League.

Lol. Different story. Funny in some parts. Light hearted movie.

7/10.

DON 2 in 3D

Biggest pile of horse c*** I have seen in a long while...

It just rips off too many Hollywood movies e.g. Mission Impossible, Oceans 11 and James Bond

Hrithik was more convincing as DON, rather than Shah Rukh Khan...

Oh its gets better, I experienced the movie in 3D, and the only thing 3D about this movie was...the SUBTITLES.....talk about a cheap stunt from the makers...

I WANT A REFUND!!!!!!!!!

Final Destination 5

Same old and recycled storyline, with a lame attempt to connect the events of the first film.

4/10

Rockstar.. One of few movies that i have watched recently which i had to forward for it to get to the end bit!! Very boring apart from
Some songs..

Twilight Breaking Dawn - was pretty awful, but understandably so I guess.

Watched Drive again, 11/10

Best movie of the year

Ryan Gosling deserves an oscar enuff said.
+1

Got my DVD copy on pre-order, also investing in surround sound for my TV, the opening to the movie NEEDS surround sound when watching it!

Abduction

5/10

Story seemed a bit recycled. Also movie ended way too quickly.

Don 2. I quite liked it. Much better than the usual Salman Khan masala kinda films, which have become the trend lately.

Back for Christmas and New Years so got to see a few decent films this week...

The Class is an Estonian movie and is brilliant...the basic premise is a boy getting bullied at school leading so one of the boys in class rising to his defence...the consequences in particular for the boy who decides to not be part of the mob is interesting...sociologically really interesting in how people are happy to let atrocities happen and not feel responsible and as someone who wasn't so nice to some kids at school it made me think a bit...best film I've seen on school bullying hands down...

Elena is a Russian film about a working class lady Elena who is married to an oligarchical man Vladimir...film shows that both classes face similar problems albeit they manifest themselves differently...the new generation in particular with Vladimirs spoilt hedonistic daughter who sponges off her rich father and Elena's spoilt, lazy son who is unemployed with no ability to be hedonistic and sponges of his mother...an interesting film on nihilism post Soviet break up and the lengths one needs to go to in order to get something done...

Taken is a lot better than I thought it would be...Neeson does a good job and it was a well written action flick...really fun way to spend a couple hours...

Kill List

Violet but superb British hit-men thriller

9/10

Well looky there - Shaykh is back. Typically, excellent reviews and glad to see you posting once again.

Had to watch Don 2 with family in cinema. but thankfully it was 2d :p
The movie gets interesting in the second half, the first half is absolutely rubbish. Don with long hairs and SRK looked more like a cancer patient, what the heck was he thinking.

and han, the most annoying srk khekhehekhekhekhekhe.........naheeeeeeeeeeen

Ides of March- Nothing special. It had potential but it ended quite abruptly, without much resolution. 6/10

Mission Impossible 4 - Not too bad a film but got really boring and cliched towards the end. Stand out part(s) was when the actress wore the sari type thing in Mumbai to get the codes.

6/10

Is it similar to any recent film?

I'm thinking of watching this, i take it it's not for family viewing.

Hmm I can't think of similarites with any other movie..definately not for family viewing. Quite unsettling.

Margin Call.

I thought it was very good. Had some big names involved such as Kevin Spacey and Demi Moore. I thought the acting was nicely executed.

8/10.

Don 2--absolutely loved it. First half kind of drags, but 2nd half was great and the ending was perfect. Good movie. The KING is back!

I watched MI 4 with some friends in the theatre a few days ago. In my opinion, the movie is massively overhyped. I didn't like it at all and nor did any of my friends.

Drive!

Great Movie. The way Gosling delivers his dialogues, brilliant! 9/10

Stand out part(s) was when the actress wore the sari type thing in Mumbai to get the codes.

Most Def!

Also, it was shown at Imax here and before the movie there was a special Dark Knight Rises 8 minute action sequence - which pretty much trumped the entire MI4 movie.

But yes, that green sari sticks to mind.

Kill List

Brilliant. Loved the way it was shot, loved the acting, loved how the movie paced itself out and didn't give too much away, and most of all, loved how it transcended genres from drama, to action, to full-on horror near the end. Watched it twice, ending was brilliant.

Yep, the ending was pretty harrowing. Brilliant movie.

just came back from watching Don2. ok movie, better than the previous one. good acting from SRK

MI - 4 : Ghost Protocol

Watched it in theater for the new year eve.
Pretty much overrated movie, i can predict everything except that i thought Ethan and Carter will marry in the end

Been ploughing through the Lord of the Rings Extended on Blu-Ray this week - just finished. Slow-burning, beautiful and awe-inspiring, though almost to the point where the films become appreciated more than enjoyed.

Chameli (2003) Starring Kareena Kapoor and Rahul Bose

Chameli.jpg

A Very Simple story...One stormy night..two Strangers..one rich widowed man (Rahul Bose) and a street prostitute(Kareena Kapoor)..Two people living in very different worlds meet..

Characterizations is what that requires an applause.....Rahul Bose is sophisticated educated...Kareena playing a vulgar, cynical street smart prostitute...their conversations teach lessons...relationshiop between them develops very well untill the end...couple of small songs and BGM are great...Kareena Kapoor steals the show with her body language..Delightfull movie dealt with more subtle way than other bollywood movies that had prostitutes as main leads like Chandni Bar.....Duration of the movie is only 1 hr 40 and has adult language

Rating: 8 /10

Don 2- Absolute trash. Banal plot, mediocre acting, and predictable ending. I've never liked SRK, and my opinion has not changed after watching this film.

IP man

10/10 oh man what an emotional movie!

Ip man 2

10.3/10

What an excellent movie, I wanted Ip man to kill that boxer.

Great acting by Donnie Yen, not watching the third one because no Donnie Yen :don

(Fact Yip Man was Bruce Lee's master)

Insideous - Great film. Keeps you on the edge of you seat the entire time. Loved it.

Excellent films but the first one was better IMHO.

Big fan of Donnie, check out Kill Zone and Flash Point if you haven't seen them.

I am inclined to put more weight to your review of this over many others - so I will stay as far away from this as possible.

Black Dynamite 9.5/10
awesome movie, really funny :))
[utube]VlW11EfZXgk[/utube]

:))

Agreed. 10/10 for mines. That scene in the bar where they figure out what the drink is doing is genius. Absolute genius.

Also - "I am Smiling"

True story about the movie - the main actor actually sent a 'profile shot' of his with the BD suit and pose to the director. The director then based the entire character and movie around that pose. :))

'Dynamite!'

'Don 2: The King is Back' 2011 (Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Om Puri)

I failed to spot anything special in it:13:....... Was an okay film but enjoyable in patches and flawed in patches, too. Shah Rukh Khan is not made for such roles. He is there to cry about his lost girlfriends only in films. His dialogue delivery was pretty annoying at times:boom:. All in all, not too bad but definitely over-hyped like many of his films.

My rating
6.5

Seen a few films since I last posted here

Battle Los Angeles - I liked it, plenty of action. It seemed like a game at times with the shooting scenes. 6.5/10

Priest - A good film, not usually keen on Vampire films, though the vampires in this film were not like your typical vampires, more monster like with rapid speed. I thought Paul Bettany did a very good job, he is a good actor and played his role well enough. The film could have perhaps been a bit longer and with some more fighting scenes BUT still worth a watch

Unknown - I loved Taken with Liam Neeson so was keen on watching this. Not a patch on Taken BUT still worth a watch, Liam Neeson was very good as always BUT it lacked the kick ass-ness that Taken had

Limitless - Was expecting much more based on the trailer, so a bit of a let down in that regards. Overall it was okay, not brilliant and not bad

The Inbetweeners Movie - I loved the TV series so was looking forward to the film. In comparison to the TV series it was average BUT there was still enough funny moments to keep it going and make it worth a watch

The Hangover 2 - I loved the first film, one of the best comedies in a long time so this was always going to struggle to match that. I thought it was funny, predictable based on the 1st film BUT still provided lots of laughs, obviously not as good as the 1st film BUT still a funny film

Stake Land - A low budget gem of a vampire film. Set in post-apocalyptic times, the story was refreshing and the vampires menacing. The scariest were the hardcore religious nuts who line.

All in all it was everything Will Smith's I Am Legend should have been and is probably the best movie of it's type i've seen in years. Very highly recommended especially for action/horror fans.

8/10

Exorcism of Emily Rose one of the best Horror movies i have ever seen not for the faint hearted! its based on a real story. 7.5/10

And to the guy who said British movies are rubbish or watever, Christopher Nolan nuff said......

Anybody here seen 'Monsters'?

Highly recommend it.

Really? That's what makes it so good.

I dont think so..if you look at it, it's just buncha people walking..that's it lol

and the most epic movie of walking to something of all time is LOTR.. baaki sabh aiween

Don 2 - don't know why so many of you think it's so bad, I think it was much better than the first (the first was absolutely terrible ). This was very good though. Yes, very much inspired from other Hollywood action flicks, but hey, really good effort for an Indian movie.. 9/10

New Year's Eve - very much like Valentine's Day, with a huge star cast of tons of A-list actors and actresses and all of them being related to each other in some way or the other, but I really liked this one too. Much better than Valentine's Day which I thought was absolutely crap. This is really predictable though, if you don't like predictable movies and don't like it when you know how the movie's going to end halfway through the movie itself, don't go for it. Otherwise, just go in with a clear mind, pretend to be an idiot, and watch it.. it's very good! 9/10

Going to watch The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo tomorrow, hopefully that's good.

Oh, and for those of you who enjoy a complete laugh-riot, please please watch 30 Minutes or Less. It isn't a good movie in terms of quality, but if you want a comedy with both the lead actors being comedians (and one being an Indian, with a Pakistani girl playing his sister in the film), watch it. It's quite possibly the best movie I've ever watched, in terms of comedy/laugh value only.

11/10!
