Crazy Stupid Love

Not a bad movie. Worth a watch. Needed a light-hearted and fun movie to watch after a tough week from work.

Ah well, to each their own, but the tension and suspense that was created, as well as the bonding one feels with the characters was something very well executed I thought.
 
Drive - Despite all the hype i was a bit meh on this one. I don't know, it seemed to rely on the anti-charisma of the protagonist. I found it to be watchable without being a standout.

I was excited with all the hype it generated but was left kinda disappointed .

Just watched IP Man 1 + 2 back to back

I loved the first film, think it was brilliant, Donnie Yen was awesome.

I agree with Asif that the 1st one was better. I really liked the 2nd film BUT only until the fights with the western boxer, thought that was kind daft and ridiculous and for me somewhat spoiled the film (still a top film overall). Yip Man should have been able to batter that boxer with ease BUT he got knocked down a few times

I agree and if you think about it the 2nd film is a bit of a mashup of Rocky IV but it's still an excellent film.

Great Movie.
Kept me interested throughout the movie. Has an enticing plot that keeps the viewer interested. Russel Crowe was top-notch in this one.

The first one was better, you guys are right, but the speech and the emotional quote that Yip made at the end, how he stood up against the ghoras and gave a patriotic speech and inspired the Chinese people. Also, not to mention him falling down was nerve breaking because the whole nation China was at stake if he lost, once he got up and kept punching that boxer, I was screaming and shouting "maar Ip man maar, aur maar."

The last fight against the Japanese commander, you could tell from punch one, the Japanese commander is dead. But nevertheless both were excellent movies, and IP man the way he carries himself and doesn't brag about it anything is just mind blowing.

Hangover 2 - (2011)

Absolutely same as the first apart from the location! Dont see what was the need for the remake. Give it a miss and watch the first if you hvent seen it already

Watched The Crimson Rivers ...I saw something which suggested it was the French '7even'...the book was supposed to be good and with Jean Reno and Vincent Cassell in it I thought it was a must see...a bit of a disappointment...its decent but the plot wasn't really developed and the ending was weak...a bit of a disappointment because it could have been a lot better...it seems to be one of those 'the book is better' movies...

Fabulous and enjoyable:14:!

Will give it 7/10 with one extracted for a few awkward things in it.

Vaastav (1999) Starring Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal, Namratha Shirodkar

Very good Movie...Sanju Baba's best performance and I dont think he will better it in his life time. First 45 min or so is a little slow....but the movie will more than make up for it in the rest of the movie...Last 20 min was brilliant acting from Sanjay Dutt.

Watched a couple more movies this week...one was very good...the other outstanding...

Cell 211 is a Spanish movie with a very interesting premise and some very good execution...the characters reactions are realistic but there are some very contrived plot points...general premise though is a new prison guard comes to check out the prison before he starts work...he ends up being the only prison guard on the grounds when a riot takes place and ends up having to pretend hes an inmate...well worth a watch especially if your a fan of prison flicks...lots of twists and lots of energy...

Das Experiment is one of the best I have seen in a long time...a German flick based on the Stanford Experiment and a book called 'The Black Box'...for those who don't know the experiment check this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment...this movie was truly thrilling...much like the Milgram experiment it shows what having authority can do...I haven't seen the American remake but can't imagine it could be a good as the original...anyone seen both?...
 
The Death of Mr Lazarescu

Mr. Lazarescu, a 63 year old lonely man feels sick and calls the ambulance. When it arrives, the paramedic decides he should take him to the hospital but once there they decide to send him to another hospital and then yet another... As the night unfolds and they can't find a hospital for Mr. Lazarescu, his health starts to deteriorate fast.

Shot in real time, this is a must watch. Features top notch acting and dark humour. 9/10

Also, I would recommend Incendies & Super. Both 9/10.

Players (2012)

Director Abbas-Mustan

Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu, Sonam Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sikandar Kher, Omi Vaidya, Johnny Lever.

An official remake of "The Italian Job" for Bollywood which is a lame product really as it's too long for an action movie and it's screenplay was poor to say the least. Shot in New Zealand mostly it's just a poor movie as a whole as Abbas-Mustan completely fail to do much with their screenplay and the film surely could've been easily a 2 hour one if some bits were edited.

The only decent things in the movie was Bipasha who looked stunning and Sonam too wasn't that bad either!

I'll give it 2 out of 5.
 
Real Steel. 6/10

Watched it a few days ago and even though I love boxing movies and it's one of my favourite sports, this movie just didn't click. The whole idea of bots boxing was ludicrous. I think it's an interesting idea for video games but not in real life. Bots can never replace humans. There's no fun in watching machines fight eachother.
 
Watched Bullhead...its a Belgian movie released last year...brilliant movie...its really unique and the lead is out standing...its part crime flick about the Belgian hormone mafia but more a drama about the lead Jacky and how he had become the person he has...class movie...

Got Death of Mr Lazarescu...gonna watch that soon...saw another good Romanian flick a while back...4 Weeks 3 Days 2 Hours...really gritty stuff and certainly recommend it...
 
The messangers, made me laugh rather than scare me. 6/10

Paranormal activity, fell asleep it was that boring. 1/10

Can anyone name a scary movie, I have never watch a horror movie which didn't make me laugh.

If your talking jumpy scary I really enjoyed Rec...some really jumpy moments...its a short and intense movie...

As a general thing horror flicks at best can make me jump rather than leave me scared...

Noroi the Curse made me feel a little uneasy after I saw it...its a movie about the paranormal done by the Japanese...it is slow moving though...

The Orphanage (Spanish) although it's not really scary but is a gem of a film with a dark atmosphere.
 
Pan's Labyrinth is also full of ghoulish scenes.

There is also Dead End.

Good film, but I felt the plot was underdeveloped. A little more elaboration on the characters of Clooney and Gosling would have made it a much better film. On the whole, the performances of Gosling and Clooney make it a worthy one-time watch.

Horrible Bosses

2011 wasn't great for comedies. This is the one that shines out for me. Great ensemble cast who all do justice to their roles. The three bosses were especially brilliant and Jamie Foxx had a great cameo. Again story wasn't anything special but the performances make it a good watch in the end.

Bad Teacher

Poor story but Cameron Diaz is in it.

If you enjoy foreign movies, then checkout Trollhunter. Fascinating stuff. I believe a Hollywood remake is in the works.
 
Ladies vs Ricky Bahl Starring Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Parineeti chopra

So YashRaj had to make a low/medium budget movie with the same actors director combination of Baand Bhaja Bharaat and sell it at high price to the distributors and make profits...

Sadly all of BBB stars dissapointed..Ranveer, Anushka and Director Manish..

Find of the movie is Parineeti chopra(Priyanka Chopra's cousin), she acted really well...heard she has a couple of big movies already..

Over all for the movie.. 2/5(Dont watch it unless you have nothing to do... average timepass flick)

Just finished the trilogy of Stieg Larsen's book adaptations...

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is easily the best of the three...the other two are certainly worth watching but don't compare to the first one which is a genuinely good mystery and didn't have as many unrealistic moments as the other two...the first is also a lot darker...all worth watching though...

I haven't read the books so can't do that comparison but I have been told the Fincher adaptation is better so might try and still catch that in the cinema while I still can...

Also saw 'The American' on TV which is quite an underrated movie...it was a very European movie...not an action movie at all but a really good flick on how hitmen live and the sacrifices they make...you really do feel the unhappiness of Clooneys character...

The film started promisingly but ended disappointingly Also i wasnt a fan of the explicit sex scenes in the film

The BBC miniseries of State of Play was very good...a lot better than the film...

I agree with that...a Prophet is one of the best in the prison genre...I'm a big Oz fan so a general fan of prison flicks...Cell 211 was still very good imo...it was exciting and you really did feel for Juans situation...the problem I had with it was that there were far too many things that were convenient...so I see why some wouldn't like it...

The pregnant wife thing dying was contrived but obviously was necessary to Juan's change in behaviour...I liked Malamadre's character...looked all brawn but he was an intelligent boss for the most part...I liked how he decided not to kill Juan...much like I liked the Corsican angle in the Prophet I quite liked how the Spanish specific Eta were an important part of the plot...the premise could have used a better script but still for the most part I thought it was a good movie...

Just watch it Wow!! what a movie Got to say one of the best

Starts off slow and builds quickly! Great acting by the lead protagonists and a great script! Just goes to show the fragility of human nature and how power coupled with extreme circumstances can bring out the worst in all of us

Truly thrilling film

Arrietty- Based on The Borrowers, this is a beautiful little animated gem from Studio Gibli. 10/10

The guy Gosling, oozes with class. A not-so-special story yet its the acting and direction which makes the picture so great.

Teen Sci fi film, started off decently and then quickly became silly and absurd! Pointless film really unless ur a 13yr old girl Set for many sequels, which i hope people avoid

I watched this few days ago, someone else suggested it earlier. good little comedy few funny scenes.. i'd rate it 7/10
 
Watched 'The Wave'...top class movie...its been compared to Das Experiment but they are completely different films other than the fact that they both show experiments and how they can be used to bring out the worst in people...in this case the experiment is to show how easy it is to have an autocracy...i won't say much more lest I spoil the movie but its definitely a must see...the Germans really do good cinema...
 
Ajami (2009) Joint israeli/arab film about ajami a mixed and rough neighbourhood of jaffa.

The film potrayed by non-actors, is about 5 interconnected stories of its citizens who include jews, christians and muslims all living together and how events interlink them

This is a great visceral film that leaves the mainly religious politics of the region behind and shows the everyday social problems of the people and the neighbourhood.

The film has a lovely music score and the low budget gives a very authentic feel to it If you enjoyed films like amorres perros then you will also love this

A must watch for lovers of world cinema

The Colour of Paradise- (1999)

Iranian film about a intelligent blind 8 year old boy called mohammed (blind in real life) whose father is fed up of taking care of him and is keen to marry again

This picture is a gem - a treat for the senses, beautiful and moving Theres not many films that make you smile, sad and emotional but this one will


The young lad who plays mohammed does so perfectly, so full of life he loves experiencing the world around him through touch Hes a joy to watch and essays every emotion superbly The direction and camerawork is brilliant and captures mohammeds surroundings with vivid noises and colours

There is no surprise why this film won so many international awards Slow but rewarding this is high quality cinema One of the very best!
