Waiting for Dredd.

Essentially the same premise as The Raid but set in the future and with Karl Urban staring.

And no they didn't steal the idea the Dredd script was written first.

Yeah, looks good.

Even if the premise is the same, I am sure there will be different twists and turns that will make it good.

The Devils Advocate

9/10

Al Pacinos character and acting was so strong that I actually started hating it midway through the movie. Such a class this guy is.

Chronicle (2012)

A group of friends develop superpowers however their lives spin out of control as the dark side of one of them comes to the fore

Dark, low budget film, brilliantly executed and Very intense

Recommended

9/10

Play 2011

Swedish movie based on a true story about a group of black immigrant 12-14 year olds that robbed predominantly white kids their age over a period of two years...it shows how they played on stereotypes and actually used a scam on these kids playing on their fears of them without ever resorting to violence...

The camera is at a distance most of the time and the takes are long which works effectively in making you the passive viewer...and it all feels very real...it shows how adults rarely intervene in such matters...it makes you question yourself and its certainly a film to incite a debate especially the ending...for those interested in class divisions or the immigrant experience this is a brilliant movie to watch imo...

Dredd is based on a comic book i guess. Was made into a movie starring Stallone!

The Raid: Redemption

10/10.

You want to see an action movie, this one is legendary. It's an Indonesian film, but you can easily find a title with dubbing or english subtitles. I recommend watching with subtitles as the dubbed version is wonky as always.

Action movie fans need to watch this. The fight scenes are ridiculously flawless.

Yeah I thought it was brilliant too...non stop action for an hour an a half...the fight scenes were indeed outstanding...for an action junkie this is indeed a flawless movie...

Plots ordinary but doesn't really matter...its the intense action that does...

Would never watch a dubbed copy though and thats for anything...much better to get a subtitled copy...

Welcome 2009

French film about a Kurdish boy who is caught in Calais trying to sneak into the UK by truck and then his subsequent experience while being held in Calais...it is primarily a love story because that is his reason to go to the UK but also an important expose on how as one reviewer put it human kindness and compassion' have been made illegal by the French authorities in regard to illegals...how any nice gesture from a French national can be construed as assisting an illegal...its an interesting movie and infuriated the French and British government for showing the human side of illegal immigrants...

'Primal Fear' 1996

Wonerful film:14:! I just felt that the first 95 minutes or so were particularly amazing and kept you on your toes.

I will give it...
6.7/10 (one mark extracted due to nudity, sexuality (both very brief) and vulgar language (too much of it).

'The Lost World: Jurassic Park' 1997

It wasn´t as bad as people have described in their reviews. I think I can understand that people might have expected more of it having watched the first one, but still was good.

'Jurassic Park 1993'

Amazingly good film:14::14:!!!! Scared a hell out of me at times:O....... :boom:!

I will give it
8.7/10.

There are two ways to look at it. The second one had less concept but more action and sci-fi terror. It is the viewers´ choice but I watched both of these films wanting to see the latter and I got it:).

Watched Barfi. Left speechless.. Amazing performances, touching story. Best movie of 2012 from bollywood.

Watched 'The Whistleblower'...

As a film its so so...in terms of the human trafficking thing there are better films out there but tbf this film is more about Dyncorp's complicity and involvement in the trafficking of women post war in Bosnia...it shows how peacekeepers are often the ones abusing the population they are supposed to be protecting...

Its based on a real whistleblower who was appalled at the actions of Dyncorp who enjoyed the support of the state department...its worth noting that this scandal had no bearing on future contracts and Dyncorp are helping in the liberation of Iraq and Afghanistan...

Not sure how much of the movie directly relates to the book however...

Rec 3 genesis 6/10
Leading lady is  but the movie is an odd mixture of horror and comedy. Definitely the weakest of the three movies.

I saw prometheus, I will give it a 9/10 but can some one please give their opinion on the ending and why the engineer wanted to eliminate the human race????

I saw this movie yesterday. It was quiet good (8.5/10).

They left the end a bit mysterious. I think Riddly scott is going to release a sequel soon to describe the whys and whats. However, there were certain hints in the movie about why the engineers wanted to destroy the human race like when David said "Sometimes one has to destroy to create things" (Replace humans with better versions)

here aliens = filthy alien beings not engineers
Engineers = per humans which created humanity

I actually got really intigruiged and searched a lot online today . There are many theories .
What I think is that the the engineers created the human race to make a bio weapon by feeding the humans to those filthy alien creatures which swallow you whole and then reproduce. The black liquid actually acts differently on humans ,engineers and aliens. But the reason that they wanted to destroy the human race is because they didn't need the bio weapon anymore or maybe it backfired as we can see in the starting of the movie when the guys see ghostly images of the events of the past. But the humans are a danger to the because if somehow the aliens end up on earth then It would be a big problem for engineers.

I know it's confusing but that's what I make of it at least till now

But in the last scene, the alien (child from dr. shaw) ate the engineer. :98:

But in the last scene, the alien (child from dr. shaw) ate the engineer. :98:

Exactly the alien consumed the engineer and as you know when aliens mate they consume the engineer or humans and then a new being is born which depends upon whether they had sex with human or engineers. Quite gross I know but here is the interesting part. You will say that it just ate the engineer ,no if you look closely at that scene again first it's tenticles went inside the mouth of the engineer to lay its egg or larva or whatever and in the ending of the movie you see another disgusting alien been born. Hope I was able to explain.

Barfi- 2/10 very disappointing. Ranbir could not save the film, the script was not good enough to sustain the non verbal communication for 2 and a half hours, the background music was too intrusive and repetitive, the editing was disjointed. Plus, it is not easy to pull off the charlie chaplin physicality for 2 and a half hours. They should have just made the movie about shruti and barfi, the jhilmil character totally was unnecessary. All in all a bad choice by Ranbir.

Prometheus - AGAIN

Don't know how tough movie making is but i always think they could have done much better with this idea. Really wasted it, i just loved a couple of scenes really. Rest was all bakwas.

I thought that it wasnt too bad. Its the idea that was special. A mute and deaf person taking care of an ortistic girl.

Ill give it 7/10

The story wasnt too bad either

Ridley Scott movies often get ruined by editing. I believe a lot was changed to get a lower PG15 rating.

Hoping for a possible directors cut in the future. Kingdom of Heaven is an example of a Scott film that was almost changed completely in the directors cut.

Ridley Scott movies often get ruined by editing.

This is true.

Black Hawk Down could have been a lot better were it more measured, humanist, and character driven; it took the studios 25 years to get Blade Runner right (although it was worth the wait); and Alien improves as a Director's Cut.

Gladiator too misses out a fantastic scene with Commodus overseeing a public execution, but the extended version is overall a bit too long. (Scott has always insisted that the original theatrical release is his own cut.) Something in the middle would have been nice.

American Gangster meanwhile I didn't enjoy a great deal. Not that the editing was off, or that it didn't look rich; I just thought it was too slow, and a bit of a poor man's (no pun intended) Heat.

I haven't seen Prometheus yet. But anyway, I wonder why he is so edited.

Prometheus

6/10... average. Special effects are good but story, acting, plot suck. At one point I thought, I was watching Alien vs Predator. It felt like the director borrowed heavily from other movies and made a mash up.

yup!! a great idea, flawed execution.
I kept comparing the characters with one from Alien

Shame
- A film about a 30 something sex addict whos life spirals out of control with the arrival of his emotionally unstable sister

A compelling and riveting film beautifully shot, a great charcter study on the torture and torment of two broken souls- contains graphic sex and nudity

8.5/10

Yeah this movie is good. If you don't mind seeing the mature depiction of sexuality, then watch it for sure.

'Matrix 1999'

Over-hyped and over-rated I felt:boom:. I won´t dismiss the action and effects but not much of a story to be honest. I think I have finally opened my account of watching a not-so-great Hollywood film which is a landmark in itself:).
You are kidding right? I don't think you have understood the movie.
Matrix is a landmark in sci-fi movies... you better believe it.

Once upon a time in anatolia- Slow, long and nothing much happens However beautifully shot and some really epic mesmerising scenes

6/10
This movie is a character study. When you say that "nothing happens", that means you were not paying attention to the dialog. Did you understand the ending? I hope you did.

Slow burner but good movie.

Memories of Murder - Brilliant Korean crime drama and a must watch for those into foreign films.
Yeah this one is brilliant. Comes in my top five of serial killer movies for sure. Watch it everyone if you like this genre.

Have you seen the Kingdom of Heaven directors cut? Something like 45mins extra footage that turns a mediocre movie into a good one in my opinion. Certainly makes a lot more sense.

Really unfair criticism because all of those films were influenced by Ridley Scott in the first place. Hes not borrowing hes using his own style.

Also i thought the acting was very good in particular Fassbender who was brilliant. Theron too.

The plot was the major issue with the film.

I wanted to see something new. Not the same old stuff rehashed.

I am going to be unpopular here and say that Alien was boring. There were moments of dread and the chestbuster scene was scary. Plus the scene where Ash is talking about the creature's perfection is terrifying. But these are intersperced with moments where movie just drags. I appreciate the movie's cultural impact. But I tried to watch it thrice. Just couldnt get in. Same happened with Halloween.

I consider Texas Chainsaw Massacre as the scariest film ever made. Roger Ebert's review lambasted it for being too gory while there is NO gore in it. Real terror that too daytime terror! phew!!!

Well its a prequel what were you expecting? It was more original than any of the recent comic book adaptions or remakes.

Not many other movies out there that have people performing self cesareans to remove alien squid babies.

I always liked Aliens more than Alien as a kid but i re-watched Alien recently and appreciated so much more.

I was expecting a better story line. Self caesarian to remove alien baby...lol at that. And then the dumb biologist touching the snake like creature, removing helmets, the list seems endless.

Prometheus 2 should be good. Otherwise it's hard to believe that a director like Ridley Scott came up with this. The original 'Alien' was class.

Yep the plot was messy and never came together along with some questionable actions by some characters but otherwise there is no other complaints from me. I didn't see any bad acting or technical issues.

BTW Desi guys, anyone watched Raaz 3? What the hell :)))

Very disappointing, i think Raaz 1 & Raaz 2 were exceptional. This one was so ridiculous, i was laughing at it.

The opening scene in Prometheus was pretty epic to say the least. Watching the water fall on full screen with that buzzing sound.

and this soundtrack -

Watched Ranbir Kapoor's Rockstar again. Great movie. I liked it, but my family didn't.

Rockstar - Best first half for a Bollywood movie ever.

Second half - ordinary

Ending - sucked. :/

Call me a fanboy but I think TDKR is the best superhero movie ever. Apart from that also its a great movie in my opinion. I can tell you that I have many friends who didnt watch the first two movies but when this was released who ever saw this also wanted to see the first two.

Even over 'The Dark Knight'?

TDKR was good, but it wasn't as good as TDK IMO.

Only because of Heath Ledger maybe but the plot ,screenplay and the special effects were better in TDKR. I honestly wish Heath Ledger was alive and we could see another batman movie with joker but that was not to be . And Some people think that The Dark Knight should be renamed as The Joker.

The screenplay certainly wasn't good in TDKR, it was polarising, there were some really inspiring moments but it also had some bad parts. Certainly the weakest of the trilogy but a certainly a good movie on it's own.

Definately good as Batman Begins, better than TDK.

TDK, was longer than needed. Some bad editing and unfinished scenes. I have it on Blu-Ray..it's one of those movies I have to fast-forward to the best parts- in this case, The Joker scenes. He stole the show.

The TDKR script flowed smoothly, more action/brilliant story & better edited.

But I still prefer the look of Gotham City from Batman Begins.

Barfi! (Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ileana D'Cruz)

A film that expresses a lot without words!

A wonderfully wonderful film, a brilliantly brilliant film:14:!

Have always been a huge fan of Anurag Basu, the director, and he was the only reason what pushed me to watch it.

The length of the film was the only problem but it is also understandable that a lot of things required explanations since the main character was shown to be one who could not speak.

Some people may not understand much and may turn it off half way through, but it had got me stuck to it at least:).

Lastly, good to see Bollywood finally making a good film after such a long time:19:.

I don't disagree. It took me until my twenties when I had studied the arts at a higher level to enjoy or even appreciate Alien. It is without a doubt a very slow-moving film, particularly in the first half. The perspective created by the more bombastic and careless sequels doesn't help either.

Leave Alien alone for a while and go back to it. I suggest that it will grow on you along with the years. Aesthetically and musicologically it is a beautiful picture, and a strong comment on the nature of Nature. The alien is a sexual being without fixed gender and yet utterly potent: maternal and concerned for itself and its young, yet pointed, phallic, predatory, and ruthless - but not always. It knows that it cannot kill everything for it needs to reproduce through humankind, so it (mercifully?) provides Dallas and Brett with a stay of execution in the cocoon. However it still operates to a food chain, copulates for pleasure and strives for dominance, as evidenced by the crucifixion of Parker and the rape-slaughter of Lambert.

Also consider the most base, human level of the film: a group of individuals who are colleagues as opposed to friends, confined to a desperately tight space in a no man's land and forced to ally in the face of two Others (the android, and the alien). Weaver and Cartwright are excellent.

Cabin in the Woods, it was such a shame. I don't know what the producer and director were thinking when they decided to make this movie.....stay away from it as far as possible, you have been warned, otherwise you can waste your money

Anyway, the last film I saw was Disgrace (2008), with John Malkovich and Jessica Haines. It's based on the implausibly good, Booker Prize-winning J.M. Coetzee novel of the same name - and is nearly as good. You couldn't hope to encounter a more bleak and penetrating work of art. High recommendation.

DKR was one heck of a movie. I put it ahead of both BB and TDK. *RISE*

What! Cabin in the woods was an awesome parody with an usual ending! How did you not like it?

*Just to add to it*

The occasional comedy was funny without a word; it was also emotional without a tear.

Slow burner but good movie.

My point about nothing much happens was more about the pace and style of the film rather than literally meaning that nothing much happens - i shouldve worded this better but was in a hurry

Obviously a lot happens in this film, its visually stunningly shot and there are some epic sequences - the camera following the dropped apple and the arrival of the young girl who is the daughter of the head of the village were my favorite and were beautifully captured

Spoiler start As the viewers will figure out the setting about the murder and the search for the body isn’t the central theme of the story, the main theme is discovered through the study and discussions of the different class of characters on this trip - who potray the deficiencies of the turkish society as a whole. From a lack of funding for basic essentials, to the poor role and view of its women to bureaucracy and incompetence to superstitious attitudes the list goes on Spoiler end

What I should’ve wrote in my initial post was this is an art film and one youve got to be in the mood for It also requires multiple viewings however being the type of film it is it certainly wont break box office records and isnt for mass consumption As a viewer you’ve got to be able to have the necessary intelligence, time and patience to enjoy such films, which im afraid most of the population havent

Taken - Stupid girls get kidnapped by Albanian human traffickers. Dad gets pissed and goes on a rampage killing 'em all. Jolly good fun :)

Speaking of Liam Neeson.

Theres a 10 hour youtube video of him staring directly into the screen.

It broke me.

Sunrise (1927), I really enjoyed this silent film. It was the first movie to win an Academy Award for best movie. 8/10

Seeking a friend for the end of the world - A pretty good romantic comedy. Steve Carrell was great as always. 8/10

The Change-Up - Not a fan of Reynolds but he did pretty good in this movie. It's a typical no brainer comedy. A lot of funny moments. 7/10
