Arrietty on Film4 now- magical animation based on The Borrowers from Studio Gibli.

Demons 2
6.5/10

Entertaining Low budget horror comedy. Scenes of dark comic brilliance include a zombie dog, a zombie boy dying and a gremlin-like creature crawling out of it. Jolly good fun! :)

just watched Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2.... Amazing film and this from someone who only sees a bollywood film every few years

Can anyone recomended any other indian gangster films?
so far i have seen:
Company
Shootout at lokhandwala
Gangs of Wasseypur (both films)

^ watch once upon a time in mumbai ( ajay and imran hashmi). Satya is another good one. I liked shagird too ( nana patekar)

The Hunger Games. Solid work, with a very likeable central character and performance. Critics have observed that Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is the only strong female lead to be found in the recent history of big-budget Hollywood.

Actually quite a brutal film in parts, with all sorts of eccentric and disturbing sociological allegory to absorb. Thematically and aesthetically it is every inch an adult film - not to be watched with the kids in spite of the misleading 12A certificate.

7.5/10

seven psychopaths - at time it was tarantino esque and quite funny. Some of the short stories, like the one about the quaker were fantastic.

However it tries to hard to be clever at times. This movie could have been an excellent thriller but instead its a decent black comedy. 6/10 for me.

:)) wow

I almost tore my hair out in the hunger games. It was so so bad and such a rip off of battle royale.

I thought that it would be the perfect movie when I read about it beforehand but found it to be a more violent version of eastenders.

^

Have to agree with the above, Hunger games one of the most overhyped movies of this decade. Do not have any expections when watching this crap otherwise by the end of the movie you might slap yourself for sitting through the movie expecting something good to happen.

I disagree.

Battle Royale satirises the psycho-loony Takeshi's Castle Japanese format, and in previous years was a great way for Western audiences to have a few giggles at the mad Orientals. But The Hunger Games reminds us that our own society is just as voyeuristic, barbaric, and obsessed with reality TV.

The first hour of the film also differentiates The Hunger Games from other dystopian drama in its exploration of sociological, gender and futurist theory. The society revolves a super state-within-a-state, and the population is also highly androgynous, which many academics feel will happen at some point due to the displacement of gender roles. The writers of the Hunger Games deserve credit for doing their homework.

I would also argue that Battle Royale is a dark comedy and The Hunger Games is more of a serious drama, more well-read politically. It champions libertarianism and suggests that personal freedom can be achieved even in the most oppressive society. The shot of the film is probably Katniss making the symbol of unity to the Sector 11 cameras - which then promptly triggers a riot. The beauty and ugliness of the nice-but-dim Proletariat idea expressed in a seriously good two minutes of film.

Where I think the film can be criticised is on a few aesthetic and thematic levels. Until the games actually begin some of the editing is lazy, meanwhile the format of trashy news and exhibitionist interviewing is not original. Also the film is made morally problematic as Katniss and Peeta don't show remorse for some of their actions during the games. She even seems to enjoy killing some of the participants, which does not fit well with the overall message of the film. Also Jennifer Lawrence is very strong in the role, and I wouldn't have replaced her, but she does seem awfully courageous, fit and curvaceous for a girl who is supposed to have been mentally decimated and physically starved for years in a slave colony. Just a thought!

I say it is a good film, then, as opposed to a great one.

Hotel Transylvania.

It was a kids movie, and I doubt I'd watch it by myself. But a good movie to take a date to.

I thought Miss Bala was a good movie...

Watched the following movies last week:

Ted
6.5/10... weak storyline but funny in parts. Could've been a lot better

Premium Rush
4/10... I never knew there's a cycle courier service in US :yk They just tried too hard to make something out of a stupid platform for a movie

Killer Joe
7.5/10... Enjoyable and intense! ... McConaughey did a pretty neat job with his character. A very strange and unconvincing ending tough!

a bit off topic but anyone read time machine by HG Wells? very good concept though slightly boring

The Hobbit. Was amazing to experience middle earth again.

Watched the Hobbit.

Really enjoyed it, but the ending was frustrating. Of course I should have realised that there will be another 6 parts to this :)

8/10

Cloud Atlas ~ Sci-fi futuristic movie: Asks question!! although writer let's it drift [explicit "left-wing" / neo-spiritual crap]

but still a solid 9/10! Highly recommended!!

(Would love to read review by you guys Gentleman/Shaykh...)

It was a nice movie!! Have you seen 'Safety Not Guaranteed'...

Not your average time-travel flick but sensational ending (to my taste)

Wanted to watch this movie..thanks to you, will watch it tonight. I love time travel movies..they need not have any special effects..just the complexities arising because of time travel keeps me interested.

And wish you a great year ahead!

Dabbangg 2. Absolutely garbage! I knew it was not any good but didn't expect complete trash! Dont watch it. You will literally put your money in dump.

Just finished watching the movie..I was expecting the average time travel story, and for the first half it kept me interested in what was going to happen, and then i forgot about the time machine and started enjoying the little warm stories of the characters.. so much that i didnt care how the movie would end..it had already made me feel good.. wont call it a sci-fi movie.. thanks for the recommendation.

Lol wow you watched two extremely long films, and I'm assuming in very short span of time so no wonder you hated them both lol

The Dark Knight Rises.

Overrated piece of bakwaas.

The ending was so pathetic it was beyond belief.

4/10

Re-watched one of my favorite movie, Con-Air, best film so far I've seen, even though I'm more of an American Pie kind of guy.

Got a question, has anyone seen the original Exorcist and is it any good ? I want to watch it but I've read that it pshycologically messes you up...

A Clockwork Orange

9/10

A masterpiece. Must Watch before you die.

Its a Masterpiece. If you have not watched it , you have not watched a horror movie.

21 Grams

This is the story of three gentle persons: Paul Rivers an ailing mathematician lovelessly married to an English émigré, Christina Peck, an upper-middle-class suburban housewife, happily married and mother of two little girls, and Jack Jordan, an ex-convict who has found in his Christian faith the strength to raise a family. They will be brought together by a terrible accident that will change their lives. By the final frame, none of them will be the same as they will learn harsh truths about love, faith, courage, desire and guilt, and how chance can change our worlds irretrievably, forever.

^ this has become a formula.. show several unrelated stories in the movie and then make them interweave.. pulp fiction, crash, amores perros among that i know of.

Django Unchained.

I liked it. Almost a romance, almost a comedy, and almost a thriller. It had an odd feel to it, not your typical Tarantino film; he is certainly taking a new direction these days. Admittedly, the violence a quite like Inglorious Basterds, but to me, the film was more about revenge. It was a bit drawn out in places, and some scenes were far-fetched, but an enjoyable film nevertheless. Christoph Waltz and DiCaprio were exceptional. Jamie Foxx exceeded my expectations as well.

Well, technically, the stories are related. It's the chronology that is jumbled. It's called a non-linear plot, I believe. And yes, it is becoming more common these days. Nolan used it (quite well) in Memento too.

I concur. Watched the movie in a film class I took this last semester. Definitely in a league of its own.

Brilliant discussion of human interaction in a society, violence, morality, law and futurism.

However it's one of those films that's an 18+ not only because it is graphic and adult, but also because of the themes. It took me until recently to really get what it was about.

Kubrick made several masterful films and this is probably my favourite of his. I am a bit disturbed though by his reputation as a borderline snuff director, and in slight relation to that his apparent conclusion in A Clockwork Orange that Alex's lifestyle is justifiable.

Watched the Hobbit in 48fps again.

It was far better without the weird adjustment period i had the first time and everything is so crisp and clear. The fight scenes are amazing without any blurry confusing stuff we get on 24fps all the time.

Needs some more work but it will be the future of cinema.

manhunter 1986.... decent movie but top notch background score... gonna search for the song in a bit ... movie based on a novel red dragon..

7/10

Taken 2... Just saw first 20~30 seconds. At Janazah (Muslim Burial) some Albanian Mafia were burying their dead ones and swearing vengeance to 55 y/o Amreekan hero who had killed them all, and I was like Ok... W*T*F.

Awful crap!

Closed VLC and deleted the .MP4 file :D

Headhunters

Been wanting to watch this for a while, a norweigan thriller about a headhunter/thief whos extravagant life changes dramatically when he decides to steal a rare and very valuable painting

Entertaining, slick and full of violence, this was a good watch however the storyline is more than a little unbelievable and absurd

7/10
