Linger by The Cranberries
I was not a huge fan of the Cranberries when they gained prominence after a string of hits in early 90's namely, Zombie but I liked their unconventional sound as back then all grunge bands were making pretty much the same kind of music.
After the recent untimely and tragic death of singer Dolores O'Riordan, I digged through my mixed tape CD's and found a few songs that I have downloaded back then. I got instantly hooked on Linger and remembered how I loved that song when it first came out.
The chord structure is very basic, D-A-C-G but what makes this song click is the soaring violin section and that dreamy and haunting voice. The lyrics are sweet and heart piercing as well.
I'm sure I might be rude
But its just your attitude
Its tearing me apart
Its ruining every day
And the chorus:
You know I'm such a fool for you
You've got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
For me its one of the better songs about unrequited love. About a guy who is losing interest in the girl but is not completely quitting the relationship as well. He keeps her lingering on. Been through those feelings myself once. Just a very sweet and touching song. After Dolores O'Riordan's death, the song has taken on a special place for me. RIP.
Don't know what it is about this song but it totally relaxes me.
Next to me - Imagine Dragons .
Beautiful song!
