Needless to say more than half of viewers/posters here don't like IPL or T20 cricket.

But truth is IPL has open doors for many players who play for associates. This is probably the first season where there are many associate players playing in IPL.

I think wish to get into IPL will motivate associate players to perform really well in their domestic games or inter-associate games. There will be proper incentives, if they get selected for IPL.

The brilliance of Rashid Khan would have gone unnoticed if not for IPL. Today's performance against KKR (34* off 10, a run out, 3 wickets, and 2 catches) is among the best.

If you are talented, doesn't matter if you play for associate team, you can show your talent where the most eye balls are, i.e. IPL.

The thinking of 'no hope if you play for associates' is no longer valid.

Rashid Khan was a star long before IPL got to him.

Pakistan helped nurture a lot of these Afghan cricketers which really shows in the abundance of natural ability in these guys. You seePakistani style and approach to cricket and that natural flair in Afghan cricketers way more than the Indianised overcoached personality lacking timid nature of Indian cricketers.

Hence please don’t take any credit for what Rashid has achieved. IPL probably happened last to him.

I am giving credit to IPL for giving him platform to show his talent. Not to improve his cricket. He would be quietly playing in some associate games.

What about nepalese Sandeep Lamichhane?

I think his success will make IPL look for cheaper options in associates.

Lol, really? The fact that Rashid was picked up and not Awais, Jabbar or Zobair is because he is well-known as one of the best LOI spinners in the world.

Had he not been picked up by the IPL, he would have probably wrecked India in India in the upcoming test match due to the Indians not having much experience batting against him.

The ridiculous logic that people use to present the IPL as anything more than a means for the players and administrators to make money is hilarious.

No, he would be playing in any of the other 20 T20 leagues around the world and now that Afghanistan is no longer an associate, he will be playing matches against the full members too.

Of course, he's richer than 90% of Indians after playing one season in the Indian Premier League so for that he should be grateful. No other league would give him the same amount of money.

I second that Billu bhai.

He's too good a talent to not have made it big despite IPL. There are many T20 competitions in the world Rashid already was a big draw in before he joined IPL.

And one can never forget the support of Pakistan to nurture the Afghans. They all seem Pakistani style cricketers just with more raw power, brain but still inferior skill wise.

All the other leagues started up because of the success of the IPL.

The point is not IPL the tournament, so much as the state of the world that has been created by IPL.

Without global T20 circuit that guys like you hate so much, Rashid would be nowhere.

Other t20 leagues got popular because it took off in India. There are 60000 people on the stadium itself watching the star Rashid Khan. On TV and Hotstar there are thousands of more. His pay for future games will double.

Point is that T20 and leagues IPL has created a platform for players who play for associate. If they are super talented they won't go unnoticed.

Yasir Shah was number one bowler and he never played IPL.

He would have made his mark in any platform.

IPL made him richer and rub shoulders with some of the best batsmen.

And probably have job welding materials together matel steel alloy

Highly doubt it.
Afghanistan got affiliated membership in 2001, associate in 2003 and full status in 2017. He would have been selected.

Pakistan should be given the credit for giving an opportunity to these afghan cricketers in their domestic cricket.

I thought IPL was created to help India find new talent. Who is our Rashid Khan?

We don't have Rashid Khan yet, but we can find players like Jasprit Bumrah. IPL is created to make money. Everyone is making it. And if you are talented in T20, you won't get unnoticed. Most skilled cricketers especially batsmen are made when they are teenager went through coaching and lots of domestic games. IPL scouts find occasional special bowlers with an ability.

Not many follow Ranji games, so IPL is the stage where they can show their skills, and get lots of competitive games under their experience. Gives them lots of boost to improve their skill. Plenty of spinners will be coming for India.

Jee, bhaijaan. Bilkul sahi. But of course, one should not discredit the IPL scouts. I distinctly remember how the IPL started off and all the young talent that was picked up in the earlier seasons. Boys like Sachin Tendulker, Adam Gilchrist, Shahid Afridi, etc.

The IPL is basically responsible for all the young talent in the world. I mean just look over in England. Where would the likes of Shadab, Babar, Amir, Abbas, Hasan, etc be without the IPL?

I think I agree with this. However, how many associate players have gotten a chance to play in these T20 leagues? Would it not be better to simply have more international matches pitting the associates against the big boys?

The IPL, being a T20 tournament, simply cannot give you quality ODI and test players. Whoever said that the IPL is going to improve India's performances in tests and ODIs by giving you some great players needs to get their head checked. Same goes for any other T20 league.

If I was a cricketer, I would definitely want to play in T20 leagues. However, it would be silly of me to expect it to improve my game in the least. The only players who get a chance to play these leagues are players who are already big hitters and for who, acceleration is not a problem.

IPL has aided his development but the reason he was chosen for the IPL was because of his performances for Afghanistan.

Where is the broadcaster and where are people who is going to pay fees for everything?

You can expect 5 odis between associate teams vs top ODI teams and expect people to turn up.

Those matches cannot take place often because notwithstanding a few very talented players these are enormous mismatches.

In the past, players who were born in the wrong place often had no opportunity to compete on a big stage, despite being very talented. And even if some of them might have got to do so once in four years, that won't change the substance of my larger point.

I do think a club or franchise based structure is very important for giving more players opportunity. And this has nothing to do with my perceived preference for T20. Even if Tests were to be dominant, a franchise Test, would be far more exciting than many of the mismatches that we see around the year.

I don't deny that people feel most passion for international matches, which is right, but again that can be
played on rarer occasions and would be all the more special. Even in football, players respect the World Cup the most.

IPL as anything more than a means for the players and administrators to make money.

Also for fans to enjoy the game (otherwise there would be no money).

Fans - check
Best players in the world - check
Administrators - check

All good :))
