Needless to say more than half of viewers/posters here don't like IPL or T20 cricket.

But truth is IPL has open doors for many players who play for associates. This is probably the first season where there are many associate players playing in IPL.

I think wish to get into IPL will motivate associate players to perform really well in their domestic games or inter-associate games. There will be proper incentives, if they get selected for IPL.

The brilliance of Rashid Khan would have gone unnoticed if not for IPL. Today's performance against KKR (34* off 10, a run out, 3 wickets, and 2 catches) is among the best.

If you are talented, doesn't matter if you play for associate team, you can show your talent where the most eye balls are, i.e. IPL.

The thinking of 'no hope if you play for associates' is no longer valid.

Afghanistan got affiliated membership in 2001, associate in 2003 and full status in 2017. He would have been selected.

We don't have Rashid Khan yet, but we can find players like Jasprit Bumrah. IPL is created to make money. Everyone is making it. And if you are talented in T20, you won't get unnoticed. Most skilled cricketers especially batsmen are made when they are teenager went through coaching and lots of domestic games. IPL scouts find occasional special bowlers with an ability.

Not many follow Ranji games, so IPL is the stage where they can show their skills, and get lots of competitive games under their experience. Gives them lots of boost to improve their skill. Plenty of spinners will be coming for India.

Where is the broadcaster and where are people who is going to pay fees for everything?

You can expect 5 odis between associate teams vs top ODI teams and expect people to turn up.

Those matches cannot take place often because notwithstanding a few very talented players these are enormous mismatches.

In the past, players who were born in the wrong place often had no opportunity to compete on a big stage, despite being very talented. And even if some of them might have got to do so once in four years, that won't change the substance of my larger point.

I do think a club or franchise based structure is very important for giving more players opportunity. And this has nothing to do with my perceived preference for T20. Even if Tests were to be dominant, a franchise Test, would be far more exciting than many of the mismatches that we see around the year.

I don't deny that people feel most passion for international matches, which is right, but again that can be
played on rarer occasions and would be all the more special. Even in football, players respect the World Cup the most.
