Hassan Ali was a liability and was dropped. How exactly are they gonna miss him? The likes of Dhani and Md Wasim Jr. are better than Hasan Ali .

They do have plenty of quicks but due to limited opportunities you expect people to say its a weak attack.
 
IND vs Pak matches are 🔥🔥..no one want to lose to other .....these matches are always etched in memory for a long time and interesting things usually happen on that day.....so these are not meaningless matches....

The lure of playing against India and Pakistan on the big stage is up for grabs for the team that can win the Asia Cup qualifier tournament in Oman.

Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates will battle it out in the four-team round robin style tournament, with the winning country earning a spot in Group A at the Asia Cup later this month.

Games against India (August 31) and Pakistan (September 2) will then follow for the winner of the qualifier tournament, meaning stakes are high during the five-day event in Al-Amerat.

The United Arab Emirates are the highest ranked T20I team in the qualifier tournament at 12, but on recent form there doesn't appear to be much between any of the four contenders.

Hong Kong will be buoyed by their comprehensive seven-wicket triumph over Singapore at the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Global Qualifier B last month and have an experienced former first-class cricketer and Ireland international at the helm with Trent Johnston their head coach.

Johnston began his career in Australia playing alongside Test greats Mark Taylor and Brett Lee for New South Wales, but gained further notoriety when representing Ireland in 97 international matches.

The 48-year-old then turned his attention to coaching, with spells in Ireland and Australia coming before he accepted the top job with Hong Kong some three years ago.

While results haven't always gone their way, Johnston has been pleased with the progression his team have made and is confident of a good showing during the qualifying tournament.

"The Asia Cup qualifiers, and Asia Cup, present a great opportunity for us to finish off an intense and long period of overseas tours on a high," Johnston said.

"I’m incredibly proud of the efforts of all the players and the sacrifices both them and their families have made to be able to tour for such a long period.

"We’ve got a great group of players that I know are excited by the chance to qualify for the Asia Cup and take on the Test-playing nations before heading home for a well-earned rest.”

Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee at a meeting held on the 10th August 2022, selected the following squad to take part in the Men’s Asia Cup 2022.
The Honorable Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe gave his approval for the squad, which was submitted to the Ministry of Sports on the 12th August 2022.

Sri Lanka team will leave the country on the 24th August 2022 to take part in the Asia Cup. The tournament, which will be held in UAE will commence on the 27th August 2022

With Imad and Shaheen out, this bowling attack looks very inexperienced. Naseem Shah on his T20 debut will be expected to lead the bowling attack, tremendous future planning by the PCB.

I love Naseem but I'm not confident about him in wt20.

Bangladesh's next assignment in international cricket is the upcoming Asia Cup, starting on 27 August. Although Bangladesh played the final of the tournament in the previous two editions, newly appointed T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan stated that he doesn't have a specific target ahead of the event.

Bangladesh started their official practice ahead of the Asia Cup on Saturday but Shakib has already had a few sessions where he worked on power-hitting. The likes of Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahedi Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Anamul Haque - the opening options for the Asia Cup - have also practised power-hitting.

"Our official training session has started today. There are a couple of practice games in the next two days. Then we'll head to the UAE on 23 August and there we will have six or seven days to prepare ourselves," he said.

Shakib mentioned that Bangladesh will need some time to be a formidable T20I side. "We have to start afresh. When an infant starts walking, it finds the process difficult initially and with time, it becomes easier. We have to start like an infant and if we go step by step, then we will learn how to run," he said.

Right now, the all-rounder is only concerned about the World Cup performance and that's why he doesn't have a specific target ahead of the Asia Cup.

"My main target is to do well in the World Cup. The Asia Cup is, for me, the preparatory stage for the World Cup. It would be foolish to think that someone will come and change everything overnight. If we can do well in the World Cup, that will be the actual improvement," he said.

Shakib said that it's difficult to predict how much Sridharan Sriram's appointment as a technical consultant will help the team in the Asia Cup.

"I don't think there is much to expect. He was with the Australia team for five years. So, it will help us in the World Cup. But it's difficult to predict how much his expertise will help us in the Asia Cup because there is not enough time. But if we - the players, coaching staff, supporting staff - do our respective jobs well, then we will be able to start a [successful] journey," Shakib concluded.

Won't be too surprised if the final is between two of SL, Afg or Ban. It's just the way this format works.

actually, if this was the ODI version of Asia Cup, I would actually put Bangladesh and India as finalists and either or wins it. T20, not a chance for Bangladesh or Sri Lanka to pop up in the final. But as you said, 20 over match, anything is possible. As of now, bowling and batting skill-wise (in T20), Both India and Pakistan are hands down better T20 units than the rest of the gangs.

Wasn't first choice attack for sure however not a D attack as you mentioned. Your claim of Pakistan being not competitive doesn't make sense
 
People here are underestimating Srilanka a lot. They are a good team in these conditions. Something inside tell me that it wont be an India-Pakistan final one way or other and SL will have a big say this Asia cup.

Kuwait beat UAE by one wicket with one ball to spare in match number 2 of Asia Cup Qualifiers 2022 in Al Amerat on Sunday (August 21).

Chasing 174, Kuwait were in all sorts of trouble at 111 for 6 after 14 overs. However, Edson Silva (25 off 14) and skipper Mohammed Aslam (19 off 11) came up with fine cameos to lift the chasing side.

With nine needed off the last over, Yasin Patel smacked the first ball from Kashif Daud for a maximum. After Sayed Monib was run out for 8, Mohamed Shafeeq (4*) hit the winning four off the penultimate delivery of the match to stun UAE.

Chasing a competitive target, Kuwait got off to a solid start, adding 53 for the opening wicket as Meet Bhavsar and Ravija Sandaruwan went after the UAE bowlers.

However, the fielding side hit back by striking twice off consecutive deliveries in the seventh over. Off-spinner Basil Hameed had Bhavsar stumped for 27 and cleaned up Adnan Idrees (0) the very next ball.

Kuwait’s chances suffered another big blow as left-arm spinner Ahmed Raza sent back the well-set Sandaruwan for 34. Usman Patel looked good during his stay at the crease, but fell to Zahoor Khan for a quick-fire 21 off 14. UAE were firmly on top when Junaid Siddique had Shiraz Khan caught behind for 7 at the end of the 12th over.

Hameed picked up his third wicket when he had Bilal Tahir caught behind for 9. Silva and Aslam then launched an amazing fightback for the chasing team. Aslam clobbered Rohan Mustafa for two fours and six off consecutive deliveries in the 15th over. In the next over by Siddique, Silva slammed a six and a four.Kuwait’s chances suffered a blow when Aslam was run out at the end of the 16th over.

However, Silva kept the chasing team in the hunt by smacking a four and six off Zahoor. The equation came down to a run-a-ball for the last three overs. Silva was not there to see the side through, but the lower-order ensured that his effort was not in vain.

UAE opener Chirag Suri smashed 88 off 61 balls to guide his team to an impressive 173 for 5. Sent into bat after losing the toss, Suri and Muhammad Waseem (35 off 23) added 78 for the opening wicket.

Keeper-batter Vriitya Aravind also chipped in with 33 off 29 as UAE dominated Kuwait’s bowlers. For Kuwait, Shafeeq, Monib and Shiraz claimed one wicket each.Waseem got UAE off to a confident start, smashing consecutive fours in the first over bowled by Shafeeq.

Suri also joined in as the duo hit boundaries at regular intervals. Leg-spinner Shiraz broke the dangerous opening stand by dismissing Waseem in the ninth over. The UAE opener smacked four fours and two sixes before walking back. Suri found another good partner in Aravind and the duo added 81 for the second wicket. The former looked set for a hundred when he was run out in the penultimate over.

The 27-year-old’s brilliant knock included nine fours and two sixes. In the same over, Monib had Zawar Farid caught behind for 2. Looking for quick runs, UAE lost a couple more wickets in the last over, but managed to cross the 170-run mark. But it did not prove to be enough.

There was an issue of underperformance under Kohli, hopefully Rohit can make a difference but his own form isn’t great.

I don’t have faith in our batting as much as i used to but hopefully our gameplans are better.
 
Right-arm fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of Sri Lanka's Asia Cup squad with a leg injury.

Chameera had sustained an injury on his left leg during the team practice. He has been replaced by Nuwan Thushara in the 18-man squad.

Sri Lanka had announced their squad on Saturday, 20 August, minus Binura Fernando and Kasun Rajitha, who are also nursing injuries.

While Sri Lanka have an experienced spin bowling line-up, their fast-bowling unit now mostly features uncapped players in T20Is – Dilshan Madushanka, Pramod Madushan, Asitha Fernando and Matheesha Pathirana; the replacement Thusara only having played a handful of T20Is.

28-year-old Thusara, who debuted in February this year, has featured in four T20Is and picked up two wickets.

Sri Lanka are part of Group B in the Asia Cup and their campaign will begin on 27 August, against Afghanistan in Dubai. Their second match will be against Bangladesh on 1 September.

Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson admits to being in awe of Shakib Al Hasan and says the Bangladesh star can thrive as captain and dominate the Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup.

Speaking on the latest edition of The ICC Review, Watson was full of praise for Shakib and the consistency he has been able to maintain across all three formats.

The 35-year-old has played 383 international matches – scoring 13,016 runs and picking up 631 wickets – and was only recently re-appointed as the captain of the Bangladesh T20I side in the lead-up to the Asia Cup, a move that Watson backs.

Asked by host Sanjana Ganesan whether it was the right call by Bangladesh to insert Shakib as captain, Watson was emphatic.

"Absolutely! To have a leader of Shakib's quality, I think it's going to re-energise them," Watson said.

"He's so experienced. He has captained Bangladesh a lot of times. He has captained in a lot of franchise tournaments as well, especially in the Bangladesh Premier League."

Watson also backed Shakib to find his best form in the shortest form of the game, as Bangladesh gear up for two major tournaments – the Asia Cup and the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia over the coming months.

"His decision-making for his team-mates under pressure is going to be invaluable," Watson noted.

"He’s got a point to prove as well. And when there is a world-class cricketer with a point to prove and some fire in his belly, they normally dominate.

"I'd be very surprised from a performance point of view if he doesn't dominate this T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup."

Watson played as an all-rounder across all formats during his 14-year international career and knows better than most the heavy toll that takes upon your body.

“I know from my perspective with the games that I've played in international cricket, in particular. As an all-rounder it’s challenging. Especially when you are playing day in and day out, to be able to physically look after yourself and conserve energy,” said Watson.

“And also from a batting point of view, to sustain the physical and mental energy over a long period of time."

This makes Shakib's achievements over the years all the more impressive, in Watson's eyes.

"That's what Shakib Al Hasan has done. It's so hard. And yes, being an all-rounder spinner, a left-arm orthodox, it might look from the outside to be a less physically demanding," Watson said.

"But especially in the sub-continent conditions, he is bowling a lot. And then he has to go out and he is one of the main men in the batting line-up as well."

Watson believes players of Shakib's calibre are rare.

"For him to be able to play across all formats, it's very special and with the amount of cricket that’s on nowadays, franchise cricket as well, it is going to be very rare to see anyone play all three formats and as successfully as Shakib has," Watson said.

"To be able to average well over 30, mid-late 30s in all three formats, with the bat and under 30 with the ball across 15 years is really special."

When asked which up-and-coming all-rounder stood out in his eyes, Watson was quick to name a rising Australian star.

"One player that stands out to me right away, that I just am so excited to see playing, is Cameron Green," Watson noted.

"At the moment, he has only really played Test cricket and he is managing his body as he works through his young body from a fast-bowling perspective."

"The skillset that he has got – batting and bowling wise – across all three formats, which we haven't really seen in T20 cricket yet, we've seen glimpses in ODIs. He has got all the weapons at his disposal to be able to have a long, dominant international career across all three formats."

Green has so far played just 22 international matches, but Watson admits the abilities of the 23-year all-rounder made him a must-see prospect.

"I turn on the TV anytime he is playing, batting or bowling. I love watching him play, the way he takes on the game. And he is only going to get better," Watson said.

"If Cricket Australia continue to manage him as well as they are, I'd be very surprised if he doesn't have a long, successful career across all three formats."

The leg-spinner took three for 13 on his return to the side, as the much-changed national team claimed a vital win at the Oman Cricket Academy ground.

The 47-run success over a team ranked 11 places below them in the ICC standings put UAE back in contention for a place in the main event.

One side will advance to play against India and Pakistan in Dubai and Sharjah next week.

Had UAE lost to Singapore, progress would have been impossible. Now, victory against Hong Kong in Wednesday’s final match could seal their place.

Ahead of the start, the national team sprung the latest in a series of surprises in making four changes to the starting XI after the previous night’s loss to Kuwait.

Absent from the starting XI to face Singapore were the three leading wicket-takers in UAE’s T20 international history.

That included Ahmed Raza, the former captain who was deposed on the eve of this tour to Muscat, as well as another previous captain, Rohan Mustafa.

Zahoor Khan, the most experienced pace bowler in the country, was also out.

The changes did mean recalls for Sultan Ahmed, a left-arm spinner who has been curiously absent since last October, until which point he was a mainstay of the T20 side, and Meiyappan.

Sultan was back to his thrifty best, with one for 15 from 3.3 overs, while a pair of wickets in consecutive deliveries for Meiyappan ended Singapore's resistance in the run chase. Fast bowler Junaid Siddique also excelled, taking three for 14.

The fact UAE were able to post 160 for eight from their 20 overs was due to the belligerence of Muhammad Waseem at the top of the order.

The prolific opener posted his sixth score in excess of 50, in just the 14th match of his T20I career, as he top scored with 58.

Bangladesh have suffered another setback to their Asia Cup chances with two key players ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

The Tigers were dealt a blow last month when experienced batter Litton Das was left out of their squad with a hamstring injury and pacer Hasan Mahmud and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan have joined the veteran on the sidelines.

Hasan is set to be unavailable for up to a month after he hurt his ankle at training last week, while Nurul recently underwent surgery on an injured finger and needs time to rest the affected area.

Shakib Al Hasan will lead Bangladesh at the Asia Cup after he was re-instated as T20I captain earlier this month, but the star all-rounder has kept expectations low for his side at the six-team tournament.

"I have no goals," Shakib said recently when asked about how his team will perform at the Asia Cup.

"My only aim is that we can do well in the (T20) World Cup and these are the preparations for it.

"If someone thinks that I can change things within one or two days or someone else will come to change it, then we are living in a fool's kingdom.

"If you are able to think practically, our true development will be seen when the team really does well in the World Cup in three months' time."

Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson believes Bangladesh made the right decision by inserting Shakib as captain once more and thinks the Asian country can thrive with the 35-year-old at the helm.

"To have a leader of Shakib's quality, I think it's going to re-energise them," Watson said on The ICC Review.

"He's so experienced. He has captained Bangladesh a lot of times. He has captained in a lot of franchise tournaments as well, especially in the Bangladesh Premier League."

Hasan Ali's absence is a blessing for Pakistan.

Yes, Pakistani line up looks raw and inexperienced.Pace bowling line up doesn't look so bad as it seems. Nasim, Haris , Wasim is likable bowlers. Their main weak point is their inexperience. Their spin bowling is the weakest. Newaz,,Zahid , Shadab.....

Reality is India is favorite to win all matches against Pakistan and also the Asia Cup trophy after their emphatic win against Zimbabwe recently. Pakistan on the other hand was struggling against Netherlands of all teams. They have a pretty inexperienced bowling line up and without Shaheen, Pakistan will find it hard to take wickets initially. Plus he is a left armer so that is a big relief for Indian team at least. :inti

Hong Kong brushed aside a plucky Kuwait to move top of the table, and will advance as the top team from the Qualifier group if they account for UAE on Wednesday night.

Babar Hayat was back to his brutal best with the bat, making an unbeaten 53 from 30 balls to ensure a comfortable chase.

Yasim Murtaza (46 off 33) and skipper Nizakat Khan (50 off 43) at the top of the order set up Hong Kong’s bid to run down Kuwait’s 151/9, with Murtaza’s 2/11 (4) earlier also making him the pick of the bowlers.

While out of contention for the spot after their two defeats to begin the campaign, Singapore can still cause havoc at the tournament by overcoming Kuwait.

Hong Kong have matters in their own hands, with a win over UAE enough to top the group. A defeat would put the teams level on four points, though Nizakat's side would most likely lose out to the Emiratis due to an inferior net run rate.

The side opened their account with a cool defence of 148 against Singapore largely thanks to Ehsan Khan's 3/20, before their eight-wicket win over Kuwait to maintain their perfect record.

Hong Kong are yet to beat UAE in an official T20I, though their last meeting was back in October 2019 at the T20 World Cup Qualifier.

What they need to do: Monitor early fixture, and beat Hong Kong

Despite a shock defeat early in the tournament to Kuwait, their crushing win over Singapore gave their net run rate a huge boost, and will likely be the winner of the tie-breaker to progress, assuming they beat Hong Kong.

UAE also have the benefit of playing the later fixture, able to calculate the margin of victory needed should Kuwait beat Singapore in thumping fashion.

Mohammed Aslam and the Kuwaiti coaching team will be running several equations to work out what they need from their meeting with Singapore.

A win of at least 78 runs or a successful chase in around 11 overs would put their net run rate higher than UAE’s 1.045, though a win would have to be even more emphatic to account for a UAE win and likely boosted figure.

Singapore may be out of the race, though Amjad Mahboob’s side could still play a part in deciding the Qualifier winner.

After an opening day defeat to Hong Kong, their hopes of qualifying were dashed when they crumbled against UAE, falling to 113 all out in pursuit of UAE's 160/8.

The side have struggled for runs in the absence of former team-mate Tim David, who is tipped to be called up to Australia's T20 World Cup squad.

That middle-order is so mediocre, won’t be surprised if we do not make the final at all. A repeat of Asia Cup 2018 is very much on the cards, even though that team was much better than the current one.

No Shaheen is a massive blow.

With the 2022 Asia Cup fast approaching, Shane Watson has made some big calls in the latest episode of The ICC Review, including making his pick for the overall winner, declaring why Virat Kohli is primed to return to form and pondering whether Pakistan can get one over India again.

The T20I tournament is set to begin on 27 August in the UAE, and there’s plenty of intrigue surrounding it with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia just around the corner as well.

Who will win the Asia Cup 2022?

There are many strong contenders – India and Pakistan favoured most among them – but Watson picked India to win the tournament.

India have won 19 of their 24 T20Is since the end of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup last year and have thrived with a new approach under captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid.

"My predicted winner is India," Watson told Sanjana Ganesan on The ICC Review. “They’re so strong and depending on what the conditions are, they adapt easily to conditions."

When quizzed on the biggest threat to India’s success, Watson was quick to pick arch-rivals Pakistan and said the winner of the India-Pakistan clash – on 28 August – would go on to win the tournament.

"That first game is going to be very special to watch because Pakistan have full belief now that they can beat this Indian team,” said Watson. “I think, really, whoever wins that game is going to go on and win the Asia Cup.

"[But] I’ve just got a feeling India [will win the tournament]. They’ve got so much firepower all the way through their batting order, so it’s going to be hard to be able to contain them."

Can Pakistan pull one over India again?

Watson did not rule out Pakistan's chances, especially in their group stage clash against India, which will be their first encounter since the T20 World Cup 2021 when Pakistan secured their first victory against their old rivals in a World Cup.

"I’m sitting on the fence a little bit!” Watson said with a laugh. “But I think Pakistan have a chance to win that game because of the confidence they’d have got out of winning for the first time in a long time against India.

"Their confidence is going to be flying high. India is hard to contain, especially their batting. But Pakistan, and as I’ve always known playing against them, when their confidence is high, they’re nearly unstoppable. And their confidence is high now that they know they can beat India in a big tournament."

Can Virat Kohli return to form in the Asia Cup?

A lot of eyes at the Asia Cup will be on India star Virat Kohli. The ace batter has been struggling for form recently, and his appearance at the Asia Cup would be his first for India in over a month, the veteran having taken a break.

Watson mirrored Ricky Ponting's views when it came to Kohli, stating that the former India skipper is "way too good to not just get back into that groove again". And the month off, Watson said, made it more likely fans would see the best of Kohli again soon.

"You could just see that his energy was a bit sapped, even during the IPL. You could tell, no matter how much he tried – he was always up and about, but you could see the light was just out a tiny bit."

Kohli has only played 16 matches for India this year, with only four T20Is among them, the last of which came in July against England. But Watson feels that the month-long break would keep Kohli fresh for the Asia Cup.

"This month that he’s had off cricket will make sure that that light’s shining very bright going into this Asia Cup, knowing there’s a T20 World Cup in Australia coming up as well.

"So when you’re able to have a break, and because the Indian cricketers in particular play so much cricket, for Virat to be able to have some time off, especially a month, that’s just going to regenerate everything he needs to be able to take stock of what happened, freshen up mentally and physically.

"He’s too good not to be able to find his groove. It’ll only take him a couple of balls, get into the battle again, and away he goes."

Is an extended break always good?

Watson shed further light on the vagaries of rest and recovery, saying an extended break wasn’t always the best way to go. However, in Kohli’s case, he’d hit the sweet spot with a month away from the game.

“A break when you’re playing so much helps a lot,” he said. “When you’ve had a bit of time, and it’s longer than a month, then your skills can start to just fall away a little bit. So you’ll need a little bit of time to get your batting, your bowling exactly where you need to.

“But a month is just about the right time where you can have a break, freshen up, and feel like you don’t really lose your rhythm and skill too much.

“I found that with any time off pushing past six weeks, it takes a bit of time to get in the groove again. But as an international cricketer when you’re playing all year around, you’ve got to make most of your breaks because you do need to freshen up physically and mentally to be ready to go again and take on the challenges.”

Hong Kong beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) by eight wickets to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 T20 tournament on Wednesday.

Hong Kong chased down a target of 148 to secure its third successive win in the Asia Cup qualifiers held at the Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Muscat, Oman.

Ahead of the final league match, Hong Kong and UAE were put in a must-win situation after Kuwait’s whirlwind win over Singapore helped it to take the lead on Net Run Rate.

Hong Kong’s disciplined bowling effort after winning the toss then helped it to restrict UAE to 147. Skipper Nizakat Khan and opener Yazim Murtaza then powered the side to a quick start in the chase. The duo recorded Hong Kong’s highest-ever T20I opening partnership (85) before Nizakat fell for 39. The chase then went down to the wire before Hong Kong crossed the line with six balls to spare.

The win booked Hong Kong’s ticket to the UAE where it will feature alongside India and Pakistan in Group A. Its first match will be against India on August 31 in Dubai, followed by Pakistan in Sharjah on September 2.

Ranked 23rd in the ICC T20I rankings, the 2022 edition will mark Hong Kong’s fourth appearance in the Asia Cup after 2004, 2008 and 2018, and the first in the T20I format.

Of all the teams Afghanistan look the strongest. They absolutely thrashed Sri Lanka and have the team to win in UAE. It will be interesting to see how Pakistan & India deal with them in the super 4.

Personally, rooting for Afghanistan. They are the dark horse and have so far done everything right. Hoping they knock out both India & Pakistan on their way to a maiden cup win.

It's likely not going to happen but I can still hope it does.
