It seems we are living in a golden era of fantastic and entertaining wicket-keeper/batters - Mohammad Rizwan, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Rishabh Pant, Quinton de Kock, Mushfiqur Rahim.

All with varying strengths and qualities.

Who do you reckon is the best?

We are witnessing golden era of wicketkeepers.
Currently every team has more than one quality wicketkeeper.

Tests: Pant
LOIs: Butler

Also those days of 1 keeper/captain for all formats are mostly over.

Pant is in amazing form so the best in all formats currently

Butler just in T20 with Riz. not so far behind

In LOIs it's Buttler of course and in tests it's difficult you can't say Buttler in that format of course. So I'd probably go with Pant at the moment.

But if we're considering all formats as the thread mentions, then I'd have to go with Quinton De Kock he's the only one that's really good in all 3 formats. Test average of 39 @ 71, ODI average of 46 @ 96, T20I average of 34 @ 135. Not to mention he's been playing in all formats consistently since 2013 and so he's done this over an extended period of time.

There was a time when we had 4 ATG's in AB De Villiers, MS Dhoni, Adam Gilchrist, and Kumar Sangakkara all in their primes playing at the same time.

white ball cricket -- buttler.
Red ball cricket --- tie between pant and de cock.

Bairstow was already really good in LOIs where there was a competition with 2-3 other top keepers but, his recent heroics in test cricket currently makes him the best all format keeper.

Note: Bairstow and Buttler are not quality wicketkeepers

Bairstow has been fine for last couple of seasons with gloves as well I think (Didn’t have to keep much in test). However, yes there are better keepers solely from keeping perspective.

Yep Bairstow is probably ok and not terrible but neither of them are in the top half of world keepers

Specialist Keepers are a thing of the past.
No respect for them.

England should play Billings instead of Foakes.

For that billings need to score some big runs otherwise it's jos buttler situation again.
Ben Foakes deserves his chances for now and should be backed.

For me it comes down to someone who is the #1 wicket keeper for their team and not a part timer. Has to be between Rizwan and Pant as England keeps switching it up.

How fit must gilly be to keep at such a high level and score the way he did. Astonishing feats.

Helped that he began his career late (age 29),and batted all the way down at #7 in Tests.

De Kock has already bottled Test cricket. Not the first SA batter with the ability to keep wicket who has done that.

Rizwan.

Primary job of a keeper-batsman is keeping. Rizwan is very tidy behind the stumps. Also, he is very capable with the bat.

Rizwan the best wicket keeper in the alongside his brilliant batting.

From an Australian perspective it has to be Pant. Falls into the category of cricketers with Ambrose, Botham, Hadlee, VVS and Pujara who scare us and have played pivotal roles in winning 1 or more (or 3 in Pujara's case)

Pujara's the worst. Feel like we would have won 2017 and 2020/21 without him playing for India, as well as having a much better chance in 2018/19. 2013 he was also fantastic - we were terrible and would have lost anyway but he was huge and from a batsmanship perspective maybe his best series - strike rate of 62

From anyone's perspective, it has to be Pant.

Tests :

Pant
Rizwan
Blundell

LOIs :-

Buttler
Qdk
Pant/Rizwan ( Pant in ODIs and Rizwan in T20Is)

Overall :

1. Pant
2. Rizwan
3. --------( Qdk/Buttler both not playing tests now and Blundell doesn't play LOs)

There is no all format best wk batsman right now.

Pant is making most impact with the bat in test cricket. With last odi hundred he has proved his potential in white ball cricket but need to play many more innings like that to claim the best wk batsman title in cricket.

Buttler is having big impact in white ball cricket since many years now. He has set pretty lofty standards for a no.5/6 batsman and finishers. Having good success as an opener in t20s as well.

T20s ......Jos Buttler
ODIs.........Q Decock
Tests.......Rishab Pant

And...Best in All Formats
Rishab Pant (Without any doubt)

Mohammad Rizwan does stand out as one of the best today.

It really depends on what you prioritise. If it’s best keeper-batsmen (emphasis on keeping), Rizzy is unchallenged. If it’s batsmen-keeper, Buttler/De Kock take precedence.

I’m disqualifying Pant from this, because he’s coming back from major trauma, not just physically but mentally (inshAllah he makes a full recovery health wise, at the very least). Don’t know how that affects his athletic performance.

Would have to be Rizwan which gives Pakistan the best wicketkeeper, best batsman (Babar) and best bowler (Shaheen).

I thik Australia of 2000s was last team before current Pakistani team to have all 3.
