Who is the most selfish cricketer in history?

this list begins at Nayan Mongia and ends with Moin Khan. both were royal. one was a useless batsman who was moderately decent at keeping wickets, the other was a decent batsman who was moderately decent at keeping wickets but was never worried about bringing the game into disrepute.

Babar Azam’s knock of 64(90) tonight on a flat pitch chasing 320

Disgraceful

I have to say Brian Lara. He went for 400 while sacrificing his team. That was the ultimate selfishness. :inti

Having said that, Lara is still a GOAT.

Smith hit 32 runs in an over?

This is what you call presence of mind. Smith clearly knew what Thunder were doing — allowing Babar to take a single off the last ball to take the game deep. He basically said, ‘Nope, I’m not having any of that.’

If only this was Pakistan — they would’ve fallen for that trap.

And even if someone did spot it, they probably wouldn’t dare say anything to Babar, given the backlash from the media and the fact that he’s such a big player.

Sunil Gavaskar's knock, I think you forgot about it... That was crazy selfish.

No one can ever forget his 175-ball 36 against England while chasing a target of 300+.

Jaq Kallis by a mile and there's no one even close.

This man was part of world beating level super talented squads for his ENTIRE career from day 1 to his last day in cricket,. of which he was supposedly the best player, but not once did he ever put his hand up and say ok let me be the man today and do something to win this match for my team. On the contrary he especially put his head down and turned into a mouse while playing Australia, the only other team the South Africans had to go past in his time. The empire that Aussies built, it would have all been South African legacy had Jaq Kallis lead from the front like a man.

All the idiots who named Sachin, purely out of jealousy and frustrations, have conveniently forgotten how Sachin sledged McGrath in 2000 ICC Knock out just to mess with his unbrekable mental toughness and how he took charge against Pakistan in 2003 smashing everyone at sight. Thats courage and heroism.

SRT being selfish is an internet myth. He was very good in the 2011 World Cup and only played for a year after that.

Selfish would be guys like Azhar - sticking around after a disastrous 99 world cup, when he was completely finished.

Jadeja in white ball currently . Yuvraj post 2014.

Dhoni after 2015.

Potentially, Rohit and Kohli who would be way too old for the 2027 World Cup

Miandad in 96

Younis and Misbah after 2011 fiasco, playing the 2015 World Cup.

Shoaib Akhtar playing 2011 World Cup when he was clearly done by 2007

BCCI were scheduling random matches and series to get Sachin his record. At the time even Indians were getting bored of it. The circus went on and on and on.

Eventually it came in a match against arch rivals but the icing on the cake was the century came in a losing cause.

Honestly, it's hard to look past this act of supreme selfishness.

There was no extra series scheduled for Tendulkar to get his record. Only his retirement series was outside the FTP and by then he has got his record

It really depends on what selfish means to you.

If by selfish you mean someone who stretched their career longer than they should have, even when it was clear they were past their best and blocking opportunities for youngsters, then Afridi and Sachin fit that definition.

But if selfish means a player who tries to face as many balls as possible, farms the strike with last-ball singles, burns DRS on obvious LBWs, prefers flat pitches to pad personal stats, and puts personal milestones above the team, then there’s only one name that comes to mind. I don’t even need to say it.

People calling Dhoni selfish in international cricket know nothing about cricket. However he is prime example of selfishness in IPL.
