Who do you think should be the next coach for Indian Mens cricket Team?
Some names floating around are Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid & Vikram Rathour
(or) a second option of Employing the services of a foreign coach.

BCCI may approach Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman for India head coach's post: Report

Kumble was the coach of the Indian team for a year between 2016-17 when the Cricket Advisory Committee headed by Sachin Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly had appointed him, replacing Shastri.

Life may come to a full circle for Anil Kumble as the Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI might ask him to apply for the post of head coach of the Indian team along with VVS Laxman once Ravi Shastri finishes his term after the T20 World Cup.

Kumble was the coach of the Indian team for a year between 2016-17 when the Cricket Advisory Committee headed by Sachin Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly had appointed him, replacing Shastri.

However a bitter fall-out with captain Virat Kohli led to Kumble tendering his resignation after the Champions Trophy final defeat against Pakistan.

Along with Kumble, the board may also approach Laxman, who has been a mentor of the IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad for some years now.

However Kumble will be favourite even as Laxman will also remain in contention.

"Anil Kumble's exit needs course correction. The manner in which the CoA succumbed to the pressure of Kohli and removed him, wasn't the best example set. However it also depends on whether Kumble or Laxman are ready to apply for the job," a senior BCCI source privy to development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Kohli has already announced that he will quit as T20 captain after the World Cup.

For the BCCI brass, a reputed Indian coach is always the first choice and both Kumble and Laxman with their stature in Indian cricket with 100 plus Test matches along with coaching experience fit the bill perfectly. A foreign coach is the second option.

"The criteria for BCCI's coach's job will be such that only a select few with very good record as player as well as experience of coaching/mentorship can apply for the top job," the source said.

Asked if Vikram Rathour is in contention, the official said, "He can apply if he wishes to but he doesn't have the stature to become a head coach of the Indian cricket team."

"He is at best an assistant coach. However when we select the new coach, he will have a team all by himself. So let's wait and watch," the source concluded.

Have made this a public poll now
Please vote Who (and why) do you think should be the next coach of India?

Okay with Anyone except Kumble.

Kumble is stubborn person. He want everything under his control and won't give freedom to Rohit.

My vote to VVS or Foreign Coach.

A foreign coach should be the way forward for the Indian team, but I suspect the BCCI are going to go for a cheap homespun option in the hope that they'll build on Shastri's great work with the team. They'll be sorely mistaken on that front if they appoint a woeful man-manager such as Kumble or a dour, insipid individual such as Laxman.

Mahela, Tom moody, mike hesson,
whilst at it hopefully they are continuing with Bharat Arun, sridhar and co.
If not please involve craig mcdermott , jason gillespie in some capacity or the other.

Hesson and Moody should be the top candidates but BCCI dont seem interested in a foreign coach. Dravid is easily the best candidate available by far but has actually even better at player development and I dont think he would prefer the touring schedule anyway .

Bharat Arun has really been good for our bowlers and strategies.

Good players coach themselves, good bowlers don't need strategists, they can work it out. Listen to any coach and after an hour of listening you realise he is saying top of off.
The most important person in a cricket team is the Captain, if he has the personality and intelligence he will bring out of the best in his players.

No one is capable enough to fill the shoes of Ravi Shastri. No one.

Hesson has rejected indian coaching position. Someone like Moody seems to be a good choice. I wouldnt go for the likes of Kumble, and lol @ VVS.

I for one want Rahul Dravid to be the next coach so all that hoopla and drama around him being some coaching god pops and indian fans get a good reality check.

Rahul is a nurturer, his role is suited to youngsters. Its more about game plans and mental preparation for the Senior team.

Anyone decent will do.

Most good coaches will avoid poisonous person like our kaptaan.

When did this happen?
Last time he gave an interview along with Shastri and Moody.
Many time he shown interest for coach position.

And why do you think Dravid can't be a good coach

Current csk coach and one of great batsman from his era Stephen Fleming ! He has all the qualities to be a national coach, seems calm under pressure and has a good eye for talents.

Would he want to though?

Coaching india is lucrative but he already has a good gig with less commitment for time.

Would Kumble want to share the same dressing room with Virat Kohli? I dont think he will coach the team as long as Virat is still playing.

A foreign coach would be better. Someone with bg credentials..

Moody seems to be the best choice, almost Wright like, but I think he has been rejected twice and doubt he would want to re apply only to get rejected again. Kumble seems like a Greg Chappell clone, VVS would like a boomer uncle reading daily inspirational messages from whatsapp in the name of coaching.

Personally I would love to have Ponting because I feel he's tactically the most sound. But he's too Australian to coach other teams and I can see him succeeding Langer once he's booted out. Punter will find it hard to see Australia as an opposition and devise plans to defeat Australia as an Indian coach lol.

Mahela if he's up for it would be great but don't think he's open to coaching a national team. Warney would be the best like for like replacement for Shastri though:narine

Ponting's not going to give up a gig in the IPL and his media career in Australia for full-time coaching.

Stephen Fleming, Jason Gillespie, Tom Moody, or Simon Katich would be more feasible choices.

Anyone out of the first three would be great. Fleming's style would be ideal for a team like India like his compatriot Wright, Gillespie was the one who transformed Ishant from a meme bowler to the bowler he is at Sussex, Moody of course has good coaching experience with SL and also is probably the western coach most used to the subcontinent culture. Katich I'm not sure, he hasn't been setting fire with RCB (tbh no one can hack it at RCB) and I'm not sure how good he is as a coach.
