As per reports, Babar Azam, Muhammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi may be rested for the home Test series against Bangladesh in Auguest and Shan will continue as Test captain.

Since it's a home Test series against a reasonably good Test side like Bangladesh, who would you include in your squad for the Test series?

Why are babar azam and rizwan being rested? Makes no sense. Shaheen i can understand. Bangladesh is no weak team though. They have some gois spinners and if the pitches have some turn - they can be a handful.

Thank God. We need new blood now.

Shabzada farhan should be given a test debut, he's good at test.

I don't really see the need to rest them.

PCB is mixing up formats again.

Some time in the heat facing Bangladeshi spinners will be good for them.
It's not about need to rest. It's about finding fresh blood and giving them opportunity.

Shaheen 100% needs a rest. Babar needs a mental time off.

We don't need too much new blood for test, maybe a spinner can be introduced.

There is plenty of time for Babar and co to rest until this series.

Knowing the PCB they will rest them for the tests and bring them back for T20is. They will rest Afridi but make Mohammed Ali bowl long spells in the heat for no reward.

100% agree.
Bro no, we need to cultivate the future and test is the best format for practise. Saim, Usman and Azam's lack of test experience and lack of shot selection and footwork got exposed badly.

Babar and rizwan can't occupy everything forever

Pakistan need to find more keepers and need to find more free flow bats.

UK, Azam, saim all got exposed for their lack of test experience.

Pakistan needs to develop new blood and test helps in developing footwork, Shot selection etc. Yes test is a different format but typically you need some fc and international test experience nonetheless.

We need 7 established batsmen and 7 established bowlers. Not babar and rizwan to occupy the planet.

My XI

Abdullah
Saim
Babar
Shan
Saud
Rizwan
Agha/Ammar ( depends on pitch)
Spinner 1
Spinner
Shaheen
Naseem/Mir Hamza

When would they be rested? To focus on T20Is? What is the PCB trying to pull here.

Make them all plat and get the maximum WTC points on offer. A drawn series against Bangladesh due to ultra batting tracks will be missed opportunity, no matter how defensive the PCB gets.

This is Pakistan think (thick?) tank, they are a confused bunch as well as incompetent.

I believe the best stage to try your new players is in home series. We need to look forward and give chances to domestic performers. Farhan and Ghulam have been scoring runs for years now in domestic in all formats.

Since Pakistan cricket is in decline and turmoil therefore no need to randomly distribute national caps rather stick with a group of players and polish them.

Shafique
Imam
Babar
Saud
Rizwan
Salman
Jamal
SSA
Naseem
Abrar
M.Ali

Is this for real? We are resting our top players for test series? Given we hardly play test cricket anymore and with WTC happening every 2 years every test match is very important. PCB seems like it lost its marbles and can't think straight here.

We need to win this test series 2-0 and have our best players play in there. They can then rest for any plethora of T20s that may come their way.

we play very few tests. place for new blood is t20s holistically and even ODIs especially when playing lower ranked sides or other countries B/C teams.

in test we should play full strength team. we can rotate some fast bowlers if there is injury concern in particular. Otherwise, no need to rest anyone.

I do not really care who they select, as long as Babar, Rizwan are not there!
This is important

These two need to be kept away from the side for a year or so. Let the new players grow out of this mental dependency on those two, or the fear that those two are going to take their spot if they don’t produce extraordinary results

If the 3 stars are rested then this should be the team

Saim Ayub
Abdullah Shafique
Shan Masood (c)
Saud Shakeel
Kamran Ghulam
Agha Salman
Sarfaraz Ahmed (w)
Aamer Jamal
Naseem Shah
Abrar Ahmed
Mir Hamza

Hopefully Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen are on category C contracts too by then

Obviously babar and rizwan will be rested..why not? If pitches spin they dont even wanna come out of dressing room, to save their averages.

Abdullah Shafique
Sahibzada Farhan
Shan Masood (c)
Saud Shakeel
Kamran Ghulam
Salman Ali Agha
Haseebullah Khan (wk)
Aamer Jamal
Naseem Shah
Mir Hamza
Abrar Ahmed

How come Fakhar Zaman doesn't play Test? I feel like Pakistan should try him out in Test. Maybe play him against Bangladesh.

In Test, aggressive batters often succeed. Warner, Sehwag etc.

My squad would be

Abdullah Shafique
Imaam Ul Haq
Shan Masood

Saud Shakeel
Kamran Ghullam
Hurraira

Agha Salman
Mubasir
Jamal

Haseebullah

Mir Hamza
Naseem Shah
Dahani

well on a backup Imam is not a bad option because he will mostly sit on the bench if u will open with shan and abdullah

If the reports that Babar Rizwan and Shaheen are going to be rested are true then it's a positive move, however I really wished they realised the importance for rest and recovery sooner. In 2023 we has the Asia cup, ODI WC and the Australia test series b2b2b and the only main player who got any kind of breather was Shaheen right at the end of this packed period.

But anyway if the reports hold true then my XI would be:

Imam
Abdullah
Shan
Shakeel
Farhan
Agha
Jamal
Naseem
Hamza
Shahzad
Abrar

Tata bye bye Rizwan. Looks like the PCB have finally woken up and are starting to move forward

My XI for the series would be:
1. Abdullah
2. Shan
3. Saud
4. Omair
5. Salman
6. Saifi
7. Danish
8. Mir Hamza
9. Abrar
10. Shehzad
11. Naseem

If these 3 are going to be rested, I would want the likes of Omair bin Yousaf and Huraira to make their way into the team.

My team for the series would be: (IN NO particular order)

Abdullah Shafique
Huraira
Shan Masood (C)
Saud Shakeel
Omair Bin Yousaf
Salman Ali Agha
Sarfaraz
Mir Hamza
Abrar Ahmed
Khurram Shehzad
Naseem Shah
Aamer Jamal
Another available spinner needed could be Mehran Mumtaz, Zafar Gohar.

I would make rizwan keep in tests. Sarfraz is done. Even though he plays spin decently, it's time to move on. Either play Rizwan or play some other younger keeper instead. Maybe Haseebullah.

You always play your best players in Tests.

And you should always test new talent in T20s.

But then it is PCB we are talking about. :inti

I bet they are gonna go with sarfaraz.
Not sure about haseeb's performance, any stats ????

Not sure of stats. Too lazy these days. I am going off the top of my head considering the main domestic keepers that come to mind. M Haris is not suited for red Ball. Sarfraz is too old and even if he does okay in home test vs Bangladesh he cant succeed anywhere overseas or against top sides at home. Hence better to groom someone else. Haseebullah seems to be someone pcb has invested in a bit and next in line.

Haseebullah just hit a 100 off 79 balls, bowling attack included Waseem Akram. 😀

Regardless. He is young, technically correct, maybe can be a stronger hitter than Rizwan and more sensible than M Haris so no harm giving him more opportunities I feel.

Imaam Ul Haq (this is the only format that suits his style of boring slow play)
Abdullah Shafique
Saud Shakeel
Shan Masood (C)
Salman Ali Agha
Mir Hamza
Abrar Ahmed
Khurram Shehzad
Aamer Jamal
possibly look at someone like Mehran Mumtaz a bit out of the box thinking

1 Abdullah Shafique
2 Muhammad Hurraira
3 Omair Bin Yusuf
4 Shan Masood
5 Saud
6 Haseebullah(wk)
7 Agha Salman
8 Ameer Jamal
9 Mir Hamza
10 Khurram Shahzad
11 Abrar

12 Mubashir Khan
13 Saim Ayub/Sahibzada Farham
14 Mehran Mumtaz

good finnaly rizwan is dropped but why in the world is DANISH AZIZ ahead of Amir Jamal who had more runs than babar azam and same wickets as pat cummins in the aus tour and naseem is rested

Test side should be best eleven. Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen should play, if they want rest then they should t 20s. Pakistan can qualify for final if they win all test agains WI, Bang and somehow win 1 or 2 test against ENG.

Shan Masood should check his avg before dropping Babar and Rizwan. Shan if not captain wont fit in the eleven.

We need 140 bowler, Mir Hamza can only play on seaming pitch. Naseem, Shaheen, Kashif Ali, Jamal should play with Abrar. Prepare supporting wicket with good bounce Bangladesh will thrash us in spin freindly condition.

Last two year domesctic cricket was trash, dont count the last two year domestic performance of anyone.

I would ask Wahab Riaz take back his retirement and make him captain.

Wahab riaz (captain)
Azam Khan (w/k) (vice captain)
Mohsin Naqvi (director / team manager)

I would also beg the likes of Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad to bless us with their presence.

Looks good, except Noman Ali.

Bring in M. Rameez instead.

Test cricket is the most important format. The series is in August. It would be absolutely dumb to rest 3 key players just because they did poorly in another format.

How do you expect people to get interested in test cricket if you are resting three of your biggest stars?

And what happens if you then lose a test match? Who will you blame for that humiliation?

I'll take this rumor with a grain of salt. Even Pakistan are not this stupid.

I think main players should be rested for bilateral T20/ODI games. Not Test.

As per media reports, Multan and Rawalpindi stadiums are being considered as alternative venues as discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) continue to finalize venues and dates. An official schedule is expected to be announced in the coming days. The reason for this is that Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is undergoing upgrades in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a project that will take some time to complete. Following the work in Lahore, the National Bank Stadium in Karachi will also undergo upgrades, potentially posing challenges for the PCB in organizing Test matches there.

I assume at some point in time Pindi and Multan Stadiums will also under go upgrade for the CT2025?

At Pindi:

7. Salman Ali Agha
8. Aamer Jamal

11. Abrar Ahmed

at Multan, if more turn is on offer, replace Jamal with a spinner.

Yup I would go with the same eleven.

Time for babar to shine.

Rizwan also.
