The team has developed spin talent yet when it comes to batting, afghanistan has still not changed

Todays defeat is embarrassing. The batting has not changed. After nowroz mangal and asghar stanikzai they have not developed a single batter.

Whats the solution for their batting?

They rely on emotion and not on technique.

Emotion works fine in bowling, batting needs to be a calculated effort.

I feel your pain but Afghanistan has improved overall. They need to play (and respect) Pakistan more and that will benefit them immensely.

They don't focus on the basics, such as strike rotation, taking singles to keep the score board ticking, or trying sweep shots against spinners to throw them off their game.

Their openers usually rely on either power hitting or just blocking every ball and waiting for the bad ball to come and dispatch it to the boundary.

Their middle order is no different in this regard, with the exception of nabi who has some cricketing sense.

They've also never bothered to develop their technique, their front foot and backfoot needs some serious work.

They need to play against the big boys in order for them to improve their skill

because to learn how to bowl, the technique of it, you pick up a ball and bowl to anyone and anything, or even on ur own, most great bowlers all say they spent hours on end bowling to empty nets perfecting their control and variation.

to learn to bat you need to be exposed to top quality bowlers on varying pitches, i.e. you need a proper set up and technical coaching, its why even in the England team the number of batsmen from well to do backgrounds is higher than that for bowlers.

Much much much better batting by Afghanistan today

Afghan batting is much better now. They added some great young batters.

They are now a great ODI side. Only weak link is probably their pace department.

@Major what do we say now?
Spoke too soon?
:p

Still no matter what mujerb has done, afghanistan batting was clueless and they need proper coaches to fix thete batting.

They need to play more top teams to improve their batting.

Afghans have an atrocious middle order considering rashid khan and mujeeb are ironically better batsmen then their entire middle order.

Their batting revolves around their opening pair.

No 3 onwards before rashid and mujeeb step in is virtually a tail.

lol

Mujeeb is unlikely to produce this again I feel

They are nowhere near as good as they think they are and that is always a problem, professionally.

Need more exposure before they can stand up in ODI.

They already have more wins then Pakistan, India and Australia in their first 150 ODI games

Afghanistan have talented batsmen like Gurbaz here and there, but generally it just feels like they've been the same team for the last 4 years. Has anything really changed or improved since 2019 WC? Still a spinners-or-bust side.

For the limited resources, funds and lack of exposure to high level cricket, they have already exceeded expectations. They will only get better.

If anything questions should be raised with Pakistan cricket. For example, why we cannot be a consistent team. Why haven’t we won a World Cup since 1992. Why we haven’t found an opener since Saeed Anwar etc.

Today they batted really well.

In the early overs rehmat shah and hashmat batted properly. Even when nabi started his hitting hashmat rotated the strike properly. This was a very well structured chase.

Yes Afghanistan lost and are out of Asia cup, but you have to give massive credit to their batting today. While the power hitting will get credit but I loved how hashmat rotated the strike and did not take unnecessary risk to put pressure from his end.

I'm glad Afghanistan is learning and such loses only helps in shaping the team better

Their inconsistency is a significant issue. When they get a low score to chase they often experience batting collapses like they did against Pakistan when they were chasing 200.

To address this they should consider incorporating specialized middle order batsmen rather than relying heavily on numerous all-rounders.
