Why is Mohammad Hafeez rated so highly?

I was trying to remember any memorable performance from Mohammad Hafeez but really could not find any in my memory.

Afridi was phenomenal in 2009 W-T20. Razzaq once won MOS award in Tri-series in Australia. Gul was #1 T-20 bowler in the world. Misbah scored a century at Lord's, and the list goes on and on for other players.

There is one Pakistani cricketer whose name is Mohammad Hafeez. He has literally done nothing in any important game in any important series/tournament, yet he is undroppable from all formats. Heck, even Inzamam was dropped after 2003 WC who was 10 times the batsman Hafeez will ever be. Despite all that, Hafeez always finds a place in a team.

My question for you: On what basis is Mohammad Hafeez rated so high in Pakistan and when he retires, what legacy will he leave behind?

He isn't rated highly

He's just a decent player to have,An asset to the Pakistani team right now

Name me one player who can do his job currently in Pakistan System

Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Harris Sohail, and Shoaib Malik can all do what Hafeez is currently doing.

New zealand series, His Bowling ,His centuries vs Sri lanka. thats why pcb guys rate him so highly, normally he shouldnt be in the squad

Once Professor Hafeez retires, everyone will miss him. These are his last few cricketing years, Enjoy it while it lasts. He has never hogged limelight, a gentleman.

stars hog limelight. also-rans quiver and melt in it.

I think Hafeez is the only person who rates himself very highly. Not sure if anyone else in the world does.

I assure you there are millions only in Pakistan who never rated him, if we add cricket fans from other countries then the figure will reach to somewhere near a billion. Only in Pakistan, players of his average caliber can play for more than a decade.

Are you being serious?

Surely, Haris or Malik can't do the same thing that he does. Hafeez has more control and is more potent, esp against lefties. (Even after his corrected action)

Pakistan still have him because of his bowling, and his occasional daddy hundreds. He was also Pakistans gun T20 player when he came 1 down.

I think, once he was #1 all rounder in the world.
So it's justified to rate him.

However he was never good in pressure situations and a pathetic runner.

we enjoying it very painfully.. thank u
a gentle man would retire with grace rather being kiccked out

I highly doubt Agha salman would be as sucsessful as Hafeez

Here is INTL CRICKET

HERE IS PAK FC CRICKET

hafeez used to be such a deadly bowler... the icc screwed him over.. hopefully he can revive his bowling... we saw a glimpse of it When he toke the wicket of de cock TWICE....

Another failure. I shudder to think what he will do against steyn this time.

Who has rated him? Just think about it.. this guy has been our 'best' player of the last 10 years. Such a mediocre team we have

One has to just go and watch Steyn making a mockery after dismissing Hafeez for umpteenth time by laughing at his face. He is rated correctly by his peers.

A good LO player and an average test player who won't walk into most teams.

Who rates him other than Pakistani. Lmao

Don't think Pak fans rate him either. A garbage player remains a garbage one irrespective of whether he plays for Pakistan, India, Australia or any other team.

Nt rated highly but he has strong connections only so people does not say against him i mean those in media.

No one rates Hafeez other than ex-players in Pakistan, who don't know what they're talking about. And that includes the chief selector

The only ones who rate him are those who expect him to receive a guard of honour when he comes to bat in the 4th innings.

I heard a rumour that Wisden will be publishing a ‘one off’ special edition to commemorate the test career of the most talented and accomplished batsman of our generation , and might include a DVD to go with it. Apparently there is much debate taking place among the cricket pundits and analysts at Widsden as to which test innings to include in an article on Hafeez’s Top 5 greatest test innings , given there are so many splendid innings to choose from.

Cricket will never be the same with the retirement of this batting legend, that’s for sure.

Not the biggest fan of hafee, but he is getting so much hate here. He was a utility player, and without his bowling we all saw what happened in Asia cup. There was no one to contain the runs and as a result oppositions kept scoring against Pakistan and we couldn't even beat Bangladesh. He is not the greatest player ever but compared to maqsood, unar akmal and other batsmen we have he was decent. I will always remember the hafee, afridi, ajmal combination strangling the oppositions. He could have had a greater career if he had batted at 5,6, same as Younis as they are good players of spin and don't know how to construct an innings . Everytime I have seen hafeez come in without needing to construct an innings, he has looked solid but management can't seem to understand his role in the side.

Hafeez managed to stay in team for 15 years. he was given preference over shioab malik and abdul Razaaq at times. Problem is likes and dislikes of people in charge is killing PAK cricket. World Cup is not far and they need to get rid of some dead wood from the team .... likes of Inam ul haq and Hafeez from all formats. PAK need umar akmal at top with Fakhar as Shajreel wont be available.

My 16 member squad for wc will be in 3 formats .. Dont make umar akmal bat at 6...the way Misbah did he chew up all the balls to make a score for himself and put pressue on umar akmal...

Fakhar Zaman
Umar Akmal
Babar Azam
Harris Suhial
Shioab Malik
Sarfarz Ahmed
Imad Wasim
Shadab Khan
Hassan Ali
Mohd Amir
Shaheen Shah
Azher Ali
Mohd Abbas
Yasir Shah

Because he's always contributed in a win and when he contributes it usually is in a big way.
