I do wonder if elections in Pakistan are an exercise in futility as they seem to unearth the same (corrupt) politicians every time. But to some, elections are sign of a strong democracy but is it?

Democracy has been strong since 2008, and may it continue. It is the only way forward for Pakistan.

But clearly you dont think much of Imran Khan - if he does become PM, how will you feel?

What I think of him is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things because I am just an individual. If the majority of Pakistan votes for him, so be it.

Democracy has to be strengthened and respected, everything else will fall in place in the long run.

I believe in next 10 years Pakistan will become one of the best example of democracy among Muslim nations.

After this upcoming election, specifically, if PTI wins then people of Pakistan in next 5 years will become more aware of their rights and how to utilize democratic process for the betterment of country.

In Pakistan, Democracy is here to stay, and can become one of the best display of Democracy in South Asia.

But if democracy results in a govt which destroys your country, surely that cannot be right?

Pakistan has been destroyed by the institutions that do not want democracy, and have never allowed it to flourish.

PPP’s 2008-2012 government was the first democratically elected government since the inception of Pakistan, that was allowed to complete its term.

I think that tells a story.

Democracy isn’t for everyone, but it is for Pakistan. Dictatorship has clearly failed for us.

I wouldn't mind a dictator if it is a good dictator, many countries have had those. Also you cannot get anything done with our laato ke bhooth awaam without a danda.

Democracy is over rated, Pakistan will do well with a dictator who rules for 30 plus years but provides good governance.

A Benign dictator - has there ever been one? Singapore?

Only reason now Army does not come to power directly because your credit rating is lot more important, Military dictatorship is out of fashion...But Army is still running the show from behind the scene unfortunately. Main indicator of strength of Democracy is when establishment looses, which has never happen in Pakistan, except in 1970, that too was accident because CNC was drinking too much ;-)

You can see in US election, in Brexit, establishment lost, it people way of bringing the change. Good or Bad, vote is making major shift in policy, now that strengthens democracy...

My only concern is that we are told by all sides that we have monsters leading the parties but we are happy having these people in charge!
