What's new

Will foreign players in the IPL still trust India after their reckless actions and the consequences on the border?

Delhi Capitals' acquisition of Mustafizur Rahman has encountered an obstacle, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stated that they have not yet been approached for a No-Objection Certificate (NOC). Meanwhile, Mustafizur is currently part of Bangladesh's squad preparing for T20I matches against the UAE, which conflict with the remaining IPL 2025 schedule

Bangladesh should not give NOC to Mustafiz because of international commitments. BD are scheduled to play 2 series during this time.

Playing in franchise league can give more money but international duty is always more dignifying.

It is like how a government job is always classier than a night club job even though night club job may give more money. :inti

Very low of modi and his regime to do this while so many players were in both countries.
Well there is a reason he was banned in usa before becoming a PM

India had more to lose here. Imagine a reply with some stadiums hit in india.

Modi is netanhyu but the only diff is pakistan replied to him and he ran to usa immediately.

It was idiotic of him and his gov to start this.
India has such good air system and army as claimed by their people then why did the olace where most of its army is present couldnt catch 3 murderers. But yes they know that where their hub is and apparently a stadium js also a terrorist hub? Shameful to say the least.

But a matvh isnt called midway wdout any reason. So dont be in any delusion that pakistan couldnt reply. Indian gov and army and organisers knew this very well and hence stopped an ongoing match.

Here’s a look at 10 players who are set to miss the IPL 2025 playoffs:

Jos Buttler (GT):
Jos Buttler is playing for Gujarat Titans as a No. 3 batter, and he has scored 500 runs in 11 IPL 2025 matches played so far. Buttler was named in England’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series at home against the West Indies starting May 29, and for that he will miss the last phase of IPL 2025.

Jacob Bethell (RCB): Jacob Bethell played as an opener for RCB in the last two IPL 2025 matches against Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings, but like Buttler, he has also been named in England’s ODI squad. The left-handed batter is expected to land in India later this week for RCB’s upcoming two league matches but will return back ahead of the start of playoffs.

Will Jacks (MI): Will Jacks has featured in 11 IPL 2025 matches for the Mumbai Indians and bagged the POTM award in two fixtures. In his last IPL match for MI against GT at Wankhede Stadium, he also scored a half-century, but due to the England-West Indies ODI series, he will also not be available for the playoffs.

Ryan Rickleton (MI): Ryan Rickleton is a wicketkeeper-batter from South Africa, who is playing as an opener for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. The left-handed batter has amassed a total of 336 runs in 12 matches for the Hardik Pandya-led side but is expected to leave India before MI’s last league match against Punjab Kings in Jaipur on May 26, as per the initial NOCs issued to South African players by Cricket South Africa (CSA).

Corbin Bosch (MI): Mumbai Indians signed South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch as a replacement for Lizaad Williams in March 2025, and he made his debut against LSG on April 27. Bosch has played the last three matches for MI and impressed with his all-round show, but like Rickelton, he is also part of the WTC 2025 final squad, and along with other South African WTC-bound players, he is expected to leave India by May 25.

Kagiso Rabada (GT): South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is part of GT’s IPL 2025 squad. He played the first couple of matches for the Shubman Gill-led side before returning to South Africa due to personal reasons, which later was revealed to be a provisional suspension over ‘recreational drug use’. The South African joined the GT squad last week before the league was suspended for a week. Rabada was named in SA’s WTC 2025 final squad on Tuesday, and he will leave India by May 25.

Gerald Coetzee (GT): Like Rabada, Coetzee is also part of GT’s IPL 2025 squad and is also included in South Africa’s WTC 2025 final squad. If CSA doesn’t extend NOCs for WTC final-bound players, then Coetzee will also not be available for IPL 2025 playoffs.

Marco Jansen (PBKS): Marco Jansen is a South African fast bowling all-rounder who plays for PBKS in IPL 2025. The 25-year-old cricketer has featured in all 11 matches of IPL 2025 for Shreyas Iyer & Co. and played a big role in the team’s win on multiple occasions. He is also part of SA’s WTC 2025 final squad and will not be available for IPL 2025 playoffs.

Lungi Ngidi (RCB): Lungi Ngidi played his first match of IPL 2025 for RCB on May 3 against CSK and picked up three wickets for 30 runs. The South African star is also expected to miss IPL 2025 playoffs due to his involvement in South Africa’s WTC 2025 final squad.

Tristan Stubbs (DC): Middle-order batter Tristan Stubbs will miss IPL 2025 playoffs if his IPL team Delhi Capitals qualifies for it. Stubbs was named in SA’s 15-member WTC 2025 final squad on Tuesday and is expected to leave India by May 25.

In addition to the above-mentioned players, it has been reported that Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc will not return to India to take part in the remainder of IPL 2025 for Delhi Capitals, and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will miss the remainder of IPL 2025 for RCB due to a shoulder injury. Jake Fraser-McGurk has already made himself unavailable for DC due to personal reasons.

From this list, I think Jos Buttler, Jansen, rabada and coetzee will be missed more by their franchises.. Others are good but I think they will be fine.

Hope we haven't lost their trust. BCCI would be ruined otherwise.

Have you read the latest news ? South Africa cricket board is agreed to allow South African player's to play in the IPL untill THE IPL FINAL :kp

Josh Hazlewood to return to India to help RCB win maiden IPL, KKR assemble full squad for playoff qualification

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is set to return to India and take part in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's quest to win their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL). Sources close to Hazlewood confirmed to Hindustan Times that the right-arm pacer will soon travel to India to join the RCB squad. His arrival date, however, is yet to be confirmed.

Like most other top Australian cricketers, Hazlewood had flown back home after the IPL was suspended for a week due to the rising border tension between India and Pakistan. With the BCCI announcing a resumption of the IPL with a revised schedule, there were doubts about the Australia and South Africa cricketers as they are set to begin preparation for the World Test Championship final. Uncertainty over South Africa stars Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Lungi Ngidi remains, but HT can confirm that Hazlewood will return to India.

The veteran pacer, who has played an important role in RCB's stellar run this season by picking up 18 wickets in 10 matches, missed their last league fixture due to a shoulder injury but doubts about his fitness were erased once he was named in Australia's WTC final squad.

"Yes, Josh will travel to India. We are in discussion with the authorities about the exact date of his arrival," a source close to Hazlewood told Hindustan Times on condition of anonymity.

Hazlewood's return is set to boost RCB's morale, as they are in danger of missing their captain, Rajat Patidar, due to an injury.

Earlier, Cricket Australia had decided to give full support to its players who decided to return to India for the IPL. "Following the announcement that the IPL will resume on Saturday, Cricket Australia will support players in their individual decisions whether to return to India or not," CA said in a statement.

The IPL is set to resume on May 17 with RCB taking on Kolkata Knight Riders. As Hazlewood's arrival date is not yet confirmed, his availability for the KKR match remains doubtful.

Before that, players from the West Indies and England travelled to India.

Liam Livingstone and Romario Shepherd joined the RCB squad before Saturday's encounter. Shepherd was accompanied by his national duo, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Dwayne Bravo. Shepherd is also part of the West Indies ODI squad for their upcoming tour in England, which will start on May 29. The series' schedule will clash with the IPL 2025 playoffs.

As of now, Cricket West Indies have not clarified Shepherd's participation in the league after May 29. England's Liam Livingstone has also linked up with RCB, while Jacob Bethell has already rejoined the team.

Bethell has also been named for England's upcoming home white ball series against the Caribbean side, whereas Livingstone was dropped from both the ODI and T20I sides.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) granted no-objection certificates (NOCs) to all players participating in the IPL until May 25, the original date of the IPL 2025 final. As a result, Bethell was not named in England's squad for the four-day Test match against Zimbabwe that starts May 29.

KKR assemble full squad

The Kolkata Knight Riders are among the few teams that have remained unaffected by the IPL revised schedule. All their fit players have joined their squad before the RCB match.

“KKR players and support staff have assembled in Bengaluru for our match vs RCB on 17 May,” said the franchise.

Rachin Ravindra, Sam Curran & Jamie Overton are not rejoning CSK squad . anyway they are irrelevant as CSK is already out of the tournament and only have two game left. :kp

Hazelwood will suprise everyone . wait for few days :kp

Already told you. But itni jaldi confirmation news ayegi ye socha nahi tha. 😉 :kp

Most of the overseas players have already arrived and begun training. Almost all of them are honoring their commitments and playing as per the agreed-upon schedule.

A few players are missing the playoffs due to international commitments, which was expected. Those not involved in international duties are fully committed to the IPL. The few who opted out aren't particularly crucial, as their teams were already eliminated from the tournament.

The only significant absence is Josh Hazlewood, who is recovering from a shoulder injury and wants to be fully fit for the WTC final , which is completely understandable. Even the South African board has allowed their players to participate in the IPL.

Another IPL-related thread that backfired — just like some of their countrymen's military operations. :uak

@Devadwal Ye kya ho gaya???

Buttler to skip IPL play-offs for England ODIs

Jos Buttler will skip the Indian Premier League play-offs if Gujarat Titans qualify so he can play a full part in England's one-day and T20 series against West Indies.

The former captain is one of five players named in the England one-day squad who are in the IPL.

The rescheduling of the IPL amid political tension between India and Pakistan means the latter stages clash with England's series.

The IPL resumes on Saturday. The play-offs begin on 29 May and the final is on 3 June.

Wicketkeeper Buttler will travel to India for the conclusion of the group stage before returning to England for the first ODI on 29 May.

All-rounders Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks, who play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians respectively, are expected to do the same.

Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton, the two other IPL players in England's ODI squad, are not expected to return to India as their franchises cannot qualify for the play-offs.

England play West Indies in three ODIs before a three-match T20 series starts on 6 June.

The Titans, who are top of the IPL with three matches left, need only one win to guarantee a play-off spot.

Sri Lanka batter Kusal Mendis appears set be signed by the Titans as Buttler's replacement. Their final group match is on 25 May.

Second-placed Royal Challengers also need to win one of their three remaining matches to qualify.

England all-rounder Liam Livingstone and wicketkeeper Phil Salt have also returned to RCB for the IPL's restart.

Livingstone has been dropped by England and Salt features only in the T20 squad.

The ODI series is England's first since Harry Brook replaced Jos Buttler as captain.

Great decision from Butler.

I think IPL is way too long (over 2 months long?). Players probably get sick of it at some point. :inti

Probably why they are in the WTC final....because they don't take test cricket seriously.

Their main team players not playing that New Zealand series was borne out of financial necessities rather than them "not taking test cricket seriously." They needed the SA20 to be a success otherwise their board would have been in dire straits financially. For that they needed all their stars to be a part of the tournament.

Also, you're smoking some of the good stuff if you think there is even a remote possibility that their players will miss the WTC final for freaking IPL lol.

You're a big fan of Test cricket, so you must know the reality?

How many test matches South Africa has play against Australia, England or India ( Only 2 at home , result was 1-1 ) in current cycle.

Home Series against India , 1-1
Away Series against NZ , 2-0 loss
Away Series against Wi , 1-0 win
Away Series against Bangladesh , 2-0 win
Home Series against lanka ,
Home Series against Pakistan , 2-0 win

So atleast don't pretend that you don't know how they Qualified for WTC final. Lol

Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis will replace Jos Buttler in the Gujarat Titans squad for the IPL playoffs.
Kusal Mendis had been at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Quetta Gladiators until last week, playing as their wicketkeeper-batter. He'd last played for them on May 7. But ESPNcricinfo has learned he will not travel to Pakistan for the remainder of the PSL due to perceived safety concerns, and has now pivoted to playing in the IPL, a league in which he has never previously appeared.

Mitchell Owen has joined to the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). PBKS signed the Australian all-rounder for Rs 3 crore after Glenn Maxwell was ruled out from the tournament owing to a fractured finger.

According to earlier reports, Owen would only sign with PBKS after completing his duties with the Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, the 23-year-old quit the PSL in the middle of the season, leaving Zalmi with a chance to make it to the playoffs. :ROFLMAO:

IPL player availability is changing every day and rightly so, it's IPL that changed its schedule.

Wasn't surprised when SA and AUS pulled their players, it's WTC final after all.

:kp

You're a big fan of Test cricket, so you must know the reality?

How many test matches South Africa has play against Australia, England or India ( Only 2 at home , result was 1-1 ) in current cycle.

Home Series against India , 1-1
Away Series against NZ , 2-0 loss
Away Series against Wi , 1-0 win
Away Series against Bangladesh , 2-0 win
Home Series against lanka ,
Home Series against Pakistan , 2-0 win

So atleast don't pretend that you don't know how they Qualified for WTC final. Lol

:kp
No need to deflect from the topic. Them having an easy schedule has nothing to do with them "not caring about test cricket", which is what you said.

Punjab Kings have confirmed that all-rounder Mitchell Owen has joined the squad ahead of the resumption of the IPL 2025 on Friday. Owen, who was signed as a replacement for injured Glenn Maxwell, was signed for Rs 3 crore for the remainder of the tournament earlier this month. He has played 34 T20s and scored 646 runs, including two centuries and a highest score of 108. Owen also has 10 T20 wickets to his name. He was part of the PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi before linking up with the IPL side.

When South African players do not give priority to Test cricket because of the South African league, that is correct for you But if they do not give priority to Test cricket because of the IPL, that is wrong for you. Hypocrisy.

My point is that apart from the Big Three, no other board/players take Test cricket seriously.

Mitchell Johnson shared following thoughts in a recent media interaction:

"Cricket might involve mega bucks these days but it is still just a game, and that has been brought sharply into focus after the Indian Premier League's hiatus this week."

"Given the rising military tensions between India and Pakistan after their recent conflict, and the heightened risk during the ceasefire - which isn't a guarantee for safety - it's understandable that players might be hesitant to return to an environment they fled due to safety concerns."

"Prioritising safety should be paramount. Opting not to play could lead to disappointment or even professional and financial repercussions down the track, but prioritising safety is first and foremost."

"Ultimately, the choice should be about what feels safest and most right for each individual, rather than just a commitment to a franchise or winning a tournament."

"Robust security protocols are essential in maintaining a safe environment for everyone involved in the sport. Even in peaceful times, the unpredictability of situations can necessitate heightened security measures. The priority must always be the well-being of those participating in or attending these events."

"No one should be coerced or feel pressured into going back, even if the IPL and Pakistan Super League, which has also been halted, push hard for it. Both tournaments should just end now or consider moving, which then becomes a huge financial issue."

"Let's not forget that some Australian and South African players will need to prepare for the upcoming World Test Championship final."

"The sporting side of things in the context of cricket, especially regarding events like the IPL and PSL, is fascinating and deeply intertwined with the cultural identities of the respective countries."

"Cricket is a source of pride and unity for fans. Despite the challenges posed by the current situation, the passion for the game remains unwavering."

"However, the reality is that the safety and well-being of players, fans, and everyone involved in these leagues must be prioritised."

"While cricket can bridge divides and promote camaraderie, it is essential to consider the implications of playing in such a tense security environment."

Starc makes big-money IPL call as tournament resumes

Mitchell Starc has decided against returning to the IPL after the tournament's postponement

Mitchell Starc has become the highest-profile Australian to opt out of returning to the IPL, with the veteran quick deciding against flying back to India.

A week after being involved in a match that was abandoned due to nearby air-raid warnings, AAP understands Starc has told his Delhi franchise he will not finish the league.

His decision means he will have a clear runway into the World Test Championship (WTC) final, avoiding the possibility of playing T20s in India a week before the match.

Starc had always appeared one of the more hesitant players to return to India, after the tournament was postponed last week due to the hosts' conflict with Pakistan.

A "pause" in fighting between the two countries has prompted India's cricket board to resume the league on Saturday night (AEST).

The final of the tournament has been pushed back to June 3, eight days before the WTC final between Australia and South Africa begins at Lord's.

Australia's captain Pat Cummins and star batter Travis Head will both return for the resumption of the IPL, with their duties to finish May 25 as Sunrisers Hyderabad are are guaranteed to miss finals.

Josh Hazlewood will assess a niggling shoulder injury before determining whether to go back for Royal Challengers Bangalore's title tilt.

But players who featured in the abandoned match between Punjab and Delhi in Dharamshala have shown more hesitancy around the decision.

Josh Inglis has held off a decision on his plans to return for the Punjab Kings, while Starc's teammate Jake Fraser-McGurk has also opted out of the tournament.

Xavier Bartlett and Mitch Owen have returned to India to represent Ricky Ponting's Punjab, however.

Starc's wife and Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who also fled home from Dharamshala, described last week as "terrifying".

"There was a lot of anxiety around the Australian group because we didn't have a whole heap of information as to what was going on," Healy said on the Willow Talk podcast

"That's probably been the really interesting and probably the scariest part of this whole situation, the misinformation.

"Quite close to what's being fought over, but we were assured everything was fine, 'everything is OK, it's miles away, the game will go ahead and everything will be fine'."

Starc's decision not to return is likely to have significant financial ramifications, with players' contracts based on pro-rata payments of games they are available for.

It means if the Capitals make the finals and feature in three playoff matches, more than a third of his $A2.1 million contract could be taken from him.

Even if his club fails to reach the finals, Starc could be out of pocket approximately $450,000.

There has also been some concern from players that opting out of this year's tournament could leave them unwanted by IPL franchises in the future.

Starc has traditionally been hesitant to feature in the lucrative T20 competition, opting to prioritise his fitness for Australia and featuring in only four seasons since his first IPL in 2014.

A reality check for those who believed players would sell themselves and their conscience to play in the IPL even amid a war-like situation. Turns out, life matters more to them, especially coming from developing nations. A shocker for those who held the 'Indian Pyjama League' in unreasonably high regard. :murali

I won't be surprised if the comment sections of players refusing to participate get flooded with abuse and hate from die-hard Pyjama League fans. And let's not forget those fans who brag about IPL money as if it's their chacha's property. :inti

WILL JACKS IS COMING TO INDIA . He'll leave if MI makes the playoffs, Bairstow will join. :kp

According to reports - STOINIS AND INGLIS AVAILABLE.

Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis will be available for PBKS for the last 2 league matches.

Mustafizur cleared to join DC for remaining IPL 2025 league games

Mustafizur Rahman has been "granted" a no-objection certificate to link up with Delhi Capitals (DC) for "the period from 18-24 May 2025," the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a statement on Friday afternoon.

That makes him available - in Mitchell Starc's absence - for DC's three remaining league-phase games in IPL 2025, but not the playoffs, should DC make it to that stage. The BCB confirmed that Mustafizur would be available for Bangladesh's first T20I against UAE in Sharjah on Saturday before travelling to India. Whether he is ready for action after reaching India on May 18 for DC's game the same evening, however, remains to be seen.

The arrangement between DC and Mustafizur had run into a bit of a snag earlier in the week, with the IPL and the franchise issuing a statement confirming his acquisition but the BCB then stating that it hadn't been approached for a no-objection certificate yet.

This just goes to show that the IPL heavily relies on foreign players to thrive, despite some claiming it's big enough without them, and that fans would gladly watch Dinda bowl to the Tiwaris and Mishras all day. :misbah :inti

A fact # IPL given a reality check, even if they order Stone Cold & Tyson to play for some franchise ,the pusy is violated thanks to 🛬 from cross borders.

Despite Modi's deliberate attack on a cricket stadium I hope that players feel safe enough to play cricket on either side of the border. Whether PSL or IPL, overseas players should feel comfortable and fans should be able to watch cricket in peace.

Delhi Capitals signed South African batter Faf du Plessis for Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, and he played six matches for the Axar Patel-led side this season, in which, with the help of two half-centuries, he amassed a total of 168 runs. The 40-year-old cricketer, who has previously played for Rising Pune Supergiants, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL, was set to skip the remainder of IPL 2025, but in a latest report by news agency PTI, he has made a U-turn.

According to the latest development, Delhi Capitals vice-captain Faf du Plessis has decided to return for the remainder of the IPL.

NICHOLAS POORAN ON PLAYING IN INDIA:

"I'm not at all worried about playing here. I've always loved playing the IPL and playing in India".

Mitchell Starc is an elite Australian pacer who has the power of the Australian economy to fall back on.

Not this do takkay ka player who lives in a wrecked economy like Zimbabwe and looking to make every buck he can.
Lol... a good excuse to undermine an elite player

Lol. Batting average of 8 in The Hundred. Elite talent. :lol Just goes to show what bowling talent exists in PSL :rabada2

Anyway , he called IPL better than PSL. If they had called him up to IPL , he would've left your PSL final midway and come straight to India :srini

So IPL over the years had been selecting mediocre players like him? Hahah...your logic isn't strong buddy

And he failed in IPL. In fact, he failed everywhere except in this year's PSL. What does that say about the quality of the league.

Anyway good for him . Hope he makes more money.
Yes and ICC is an idiot to rank him at 7 in T20I all rounders rankings
