What's new

Yorkshire vs Pakistan A | 26-29 June, 2016 | Headingley | Match Thread

The swing was good, but the pace wasn't high as some are claiming here.

Conditions couldn't be better for him.

Green top
Heavy cloud cover
Shiny red Dukes cherry

Still much better than Junaid Khan. Junaid couldn't swing the ball an inch when he played that one county game.

To the weather experts who can see the sky via the internet. It's largely been sunny here at Headingley not cloudy. The pitch is tinged in green but it's a pretty flat deck.

The ball moved around in the first 45 minutes with Hasan Ali bowling outswingers and he beat the bat several times.

Mir Hamza was different class and as I wrote in the other thread he should have had 4 wickets. He swing the ball and seamed it and troubled all of the batsmen.

Bhatti has looked rusty and not that impressive, bowling quite a few no balls also.

It's a FC match & they dropped Saud for Nawaz, despite having Asghar in the playing XI - and they are playing at Leeds. Not surprising actually - Basit Ali is in charge.

Nawaz is the vice-captain of this side :|
Saud should definitely have played, maybe ahead of Jahid Ali, but let's see how Jahid does.

I think it is a complete waste to play Nawaz as he hasn't bowled yet even after 43 overs . Don't know what Basit Ali was thinking.

I didn't know that - than its a bigger blunder, you can't make LO player vice captain. It's not necessary that VC has to play, or may be they should have appointed 2 deputies as the series has both FC & List A matches.

Jaahid should have played in any case - if Nawaz is to play, then they should have dropped Sarjeel & open with Jaahid. There is absolutely no reason to bench the young player of the last FC season, who is a quality prospect.

They want to groom an all-rounder for tests and unfortunately they couldn't see beyond Bhatti.

Nothing wrong in selecting him - can hit a bit & he indeed took 8fer in the premium FC final. He deserved a chance - what'll be wrong is persisting with him & calling again for the practice matches against WI.

The real question mark for Pakistan (even the seniors) will be cleaning the bottom 5... Since we have lost reverse swing(Akthar was last king of reverse), it's hard to get bottom 5 out cheaply on consistent basis...

Pakistan cannot win tests in UK without reverse swing. Getting top 5 cheaply is easy here, SL were doing it in every match too, it's the bottom five where you win matches....

If you look at Amir, his new ball skill was/is same as Wasim or better but where Wasim excel a whole lot better then him is reverse swing... Same is true for Strac, who is much better bowler in LOIs because he can reverse way better than our lot...[emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

Question is can Pakistani gain back their list skill? [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]

Getting 8fer against HBL line up that too with a pink ball is no mean feat. He has been smashed in every chance he got at international stage barring first few games.

That's the problem of PAK domestic style, not his. What should players do, if their domestic performance is a question mark? He won the Premium FC Final with his bowling & deserved the chance. Pink ball isn't an issue as there were few other internationals playing in that match.

One should try to find how Bilawal can get 8 wickets in the premium final, or TANVIR has ~300 wickets @24 & ~3000 runs @ 30 with 5/6 hundreds in less than 70 FC matches, which includes few Test matches, where wasn't the Davidson to be honest.

Mediocre like Bhatti keep getting selected while performers like Sadaf Hussain outdo Sri Lankans in the nets.

Bhatti has bowled much better in later spells after a change of end. He's looked sharper and has bowled with better rhythm and reversed the ball.

Hamza definitely the quickest of the pace trio.

Fielding a mixed bag, some good ground fielding but the slips look shaky.

Hamza is slower than both Bhatti and Hasan.

So have all of us....if hamza is in better rhythm and bowling better today so please give him credit rather than making blanket statements

Calling him slower doesn't mean I'm discrediting his performance. I've already said Hamza's bowling is suited for swing/seam conditions and he would enjoy bowling with the Dukes.

Want Fakhar Zaman to prove me wrong. Ive seen him play and despite the fact that he scored quite a bit, I wasn't too impressed.

Always rated Mir Hamza as a FC/Test prospect. Don't think he's ready for LOIs yet, though.

If Eng bowlers swing it as well, what will happen of our bats?!?!?

:srt :sharjeel

Yorkshire have played their less experienced 11 , pak A should have done better. Lets see now how our bats do.

Classic Pakistani case of getting early wickets but then failing to finish off the tail and getting sloppy to let them get away.

Think a lead of 250 is a bit much for our inexperienced batsmen on a pitch like this tbh.

As I said earlier, lack of reverse swing skills means we will struggle to clean tail, you cannot win test matches with those big holes in bowling. Our senior will struggle too...

Pakistan won almost all tests min England on reverse swing. Without that there is no chance whatsoever, that's the main reason we struggle so much in LOIs as well... Reverse swing skills has gone down dramatically after Akthar [emoji25][emoji25][emoji25]

What early wickets? They were 2/91, if anything, I think Pakistan A did well to pull them back and made inroads consistently. According to Saj wicket and conditions were flat. It might me difficult for our batsmen but for locals conditions were good for batting.

Early wickets as in having them 21/2 then having them at 189/6.

At 21/2 there was a dolly dropped at slips as well.

21/2 doesn't mean you will get them 100 all out. from 189/6 to 220/8 and then 240/8 seem like normal tbh. if they let them score over 275 then I had say Pakistan struggled to finish the tail.

there's some confidence flowing through west indies cricket in general at the moment, a win here would affirm that. i genuinely think they could be a good side again, they have a brighter future than south africa at least....

though they need to fix their pitches

Overall, a decent effort from the Pakistan A bowlers.

There were a couple of dropped catches in the slips which if taken it could have been a different story. The ground fielding was generally good and the bowlers kept on working hard and putting in the effort. The early spell of Bhatti wasn't great though and it took the spinners a few overs to find their length.

The boundaries aren't huge and the outfield is very quick so Pakistan batsmen if they get going can look forward to that.

This game alone shows us the state of cricket in Pakistan

Open up the profiles of those Yorkshire players, they have barely played more than 5 games, most of them. And here we have Pakistani batsmen who have played more then 20-30 first class games and yet allowed the Yorks to score 240+

This really isnt a bad show in first day of the series

If you opened up the profiles of the Pakistan A players you would realize that bar Bhatti and Babar Azam the rest haven't played a single game of cricket on English soil.
