Well, we all thought Indian men are masters at misbehaving in airplanes. But now, we’re targeting cruise ships namely the Royal Caribbean Australian Cruise.
Last month, at least 1,300 of Indian tobacco company – Kamla Pasand employees virtually took over the Voyager of the Seas. As a result, the ship authorities had to issue full refunds to passengers who complained that their experience was ruined.

Voyager of the seas or wild parties?
According to media outlets, employees of Kamla Pasand came aboard the cruise on the Voyager of the seas for the purpose of a conference visit.
The cruise which left Sydney was meant for a conference visit but that soon turned host to wild parties, with woman dressed as Playboy bunnies.
Australian website 9news reports: “The lavish Voyager of the Seas was turned into the “voyager of the sleaze” shortly after leaving port when roughly 1,300 employees from Indian company Kamla Pasand took over the ship’s pool decks and bars – blocking shocked passengers from many parts of the 140,000 tonne vessel.”
Others reported that the Indian men blocked passengers way from some parts of the ship and took over the ship’s pool, bars, and buffet. While the ‘rowdy’ men were in a frenzy, the other passengers were forced to retreat from these places.
The party got even wilder as the company had hired burlesque dancers.
“It was almost like a huge bucks (bachelor) party, a bucks night for 1,200 people,” a passenger from Sydney Cassandra Riini told the Australian Nine Network’s A Current Affair.
She also stated that the men were constantly filming her daughter and friends on their smartphones.
The social events which usually take place on the ship like bingo and trivia nights were also cancelled, owing to lack of interest on the part of the employee’s end as the Indians opted to attend the cabaret.
As a result of all this, the situation got so out of hand that the Royal Caribbean International had to issue a full refund to passengers.

Are the Aussies rightfully defaming Indians?
Ratna Chadha CEO of Tirun Travel Marketing, which is the exclusive India representative of Royal Caribbean International, defended the situation.
In a statement to Financial Express she said, “There was no incident reported on board, there were more than 3000 passengers, of which only six Australians complained, post-defacto (after de-boarding the ship).”
She criticized passengers for not complaining on board and raising alarms after they went home, highlighting that the entertainment on board was all family style and in lieu of ship policies.
Finally, she blamed the passengers for maligning Indians for no reasons at all.
“They can’t see Indians having a good time. These guys (Kamla Pasand employees) knew their limits. On a cruise line which has a guest conduct policy, a group policy, and an enclosed environment, one can not do all this. This is a family cruise line, there is some other motive behind it.”
This calls for a detailed explanation on the part of the ship authorities. Although Indian people have been known for their misbehaviour in the past, some of the statements made by Ratna Chadha do make some sense.
With this instance, the Indian culture shows its true picture yet again. We tend to blame Westerners of rudeness, bias, racism and what not. But how are we different?
Even if these employees are guilty to be punished, the legalities at sea tend to be complex.
According to Telegraph UK, although ships are considered to be the safest means of travel, the location of a ship when a crime takes place, its previous and next port of destination, the nationality of the victim and perpetrator and the country where the ship is registered can all determine whose legal system is applied.

Indian men have traditionally come from very conservative family backgrounds, they have not yet become acclimatised to functioning in a civilised manner when confronted with western liberal situations. It's like a beggar will probably gorge himself at a banquet putting his own health in danger, this is a similar situation.

With access to booze, surrounded by scantily clad women and a nightclub atmosphere, the normally reserved Indians will probably lose control and go overboard, getting drunk, perving women ( and men perhaps) and generally causing a nuisance.

They are trying to run before they have learned how to walk.

Pathetic, sometimes I feel so embarrassed watching my fellow countrymen behave.

Don't get why the Indians here are embarrassed or apologizing. It's just lack of experience on these 1300 odd Paan Masala employees part. They were there to have fin and they had it. White (civilized) people also do this and even more but they just have the hindsight (from experience) to do it in private. For example, they would have just booked the whole cruise and do whatever they wanted without inconveniencing or offending anyone else, be it having Playboy bunnies, Midget throwing competitions and what have you.

I have seen many very affluent (Western, ****, Civilized etc) gorge on such buffets and then eat the cake too. Many if not most people will do such things if not worse, if they think they can get away with it without repercussions. it's just a lack of experience on their part. Doubt anyone would have cared or even noticed had they chartered the whole cruise and did whatever they wanted.

Bad behavior on cruises is pretty much the norm, so complaints by 6 in a cruise ship with 3,000 passengers is hardly anything remarkable (except for western media with a penchant for slandering India).

The thing I find remarkable is a firm makes so much money selling pan masala that it can pay for a cruise for 1,400 employees!

It seems guys in India are "starved" because of prolonged skew in gender ratio. Thanks to their parents/grandparents. Good that the courts has decriminalized gay sex recently. LOL

I know that, my post was slightly tongue in cheek. I always love it when brown nosing Indians rush to apologise for the same behaviour that they would be quite happy to see the civilised white man indulging in. :91:

Pakistanis are no better.:maqsood .Its basically the problem of most of the Desi men.

Pakistanis have Islamic strictures which cause conflict of behaviour when they come into contact with western hedonistic lifestyle. This is the same issue for all men and women from Islamic countries. In fact it has often been used as ammunition against Pakistani men when criticism of their behaviour is cited.

I don't understand where Indians get their conservative values from, even most Indian posters seem to have wildly different ideas about it. There is no Islamic code of conduct so really shouldn't be any comparison like you are trying to make.

Products that are a cheap day to day addictive commodity make much more than even higher priced essential products. How do you think they can afford Ajay Devgan, SRK etc continuously promoting it, In fact Devgan should be sued for half of the paan masal ads, that guy has been doing it forever.

A Pakistani equivalent to this is Boom Boom Bubble Gum, it has Afridi, Sammy and many other players in its ads, it costs char aanay or something but is competing will the likes of Brighto Paints, Haeir etc.

As you take it upon yourself to opine regularly about India, I do wish you would visit India, or at least read up about the country from diverse sources (including Indian sources) before posting your opinions which are very superficial. As far as I can make out, your knowledge of India comes mainly from the British press. We who have actually lived in India find your posts rather ignorant.

Well he has his inferiority complex frustrations and insecurities which forces him to make these kinds of posts. Let him have his peace.

6 people complained regarding the behaviour of 1300.

6 people out of the 1,700 non-Pan Masala employees. That's about 0.35%, earth-shaking news I tell you!
