And theyve started.

Afridi and Salman will open.

0.1 Pathan to Salman, one run, flicked to deep square leg, off the mark straight away and brings Afridi on strike.
0.2 Pathan to Afridi: SIX!, Goodness me! Good length ball outside the offstump, Afridi comes charging down the track and murders it out of the stadium.
0.3 Pathan to Afridi, SIX! Another one!! Pathan goes for the yorker, but Afridi being the beast he is obliterates it back past the bowler and the balls mashes into the advertising boards.
0.4 Pathan to Afridi, SIX! Hat-trick!!!! Short delivery this time and it is fearlessly hooked way way over the ropes and into the crowd.
0.5 Pathan to Afridi SIX!! This is amazing!!! Good length ball from Pathan, Afridi comes down the track again but this time slog sweeps him!! What a sight!!
0.6 Pathan to Afridi SIX! 5 in a row!! Afridi! Afridi! Slower ball thats been annihilated out of Karachi. No chance of ever seeing that ball again!! End of an eventful over!!

It was interesting that there was movement to be extracted from the pitch throughout the game.

I wonder whether that was because the match was played in January.

Usually in Pakistan, a grassy pitch offers movement on day one and then becomes a belter. So perhaps, had the match been played at another time of the year, the pitch would have developed differently.

As it happens it turned out to be an excellent pitch that promoted a wonderful contest. It was a match played at breathless speed.

In the end Pakistan won a match that many thought they had lost in the first over!

Oh man.

The memories of this game will live on forever! Just reading back, can't help but laugh at my falling out with Nauman the pessimist!

I think what was quite obvious in that prolonged exchange was that you both were taking out the frustration of a horrendous first hour's play on each other. ;-)

The ultimate one though - yes no prizes for guessing, it's MIG!

"Well apparently we have won a match from such a position in Calcutta some time ago - we were 26/6 then !!"

This thread is also a kick in the teeth for sick demented racist idiots like the one who posted the following just when Pak went down 0/3 in the very first over....Post #122....

"why was pakistan so successful in 1992......because they DID NOT HAVE PUNJABI POLITICS in them.........stop being rasict.......be fair to the rest of pakistan....there are other better bowlers in pakistan the mohammad asif....where did umar gul go.......where did sami go...is he seriously injured or is it just being said that he is injured.....start playing in other places of pakistan as well....there are other good stadiums in pakistan...wht about multan,hydrabad........................IF PAKISTAN LOSSES THEN THEY WILL LOSE BECAUSE OF THIER OWN PUNJABI GARDIE.....PUNJABI POLITICS.....

IF U WANT CRICKET TO FLOURSH IN PAKISTAN THEN STOP THIS PUNJABI POLITICS......"

The fool was not to be seen again after watching the same cricketers absolutely lynch India into submission - the ones he was so blatantly cussing.

The way the mighty Paksters turned the match on its head even before the first day's play had ended put egg on so many faces - not the least on the ones of the cocky Indians who were going delirious jumping out of their pants with joy after the first hour. Brought crashing down to earth. This was beyond doubt the greatest-ever and most memorable Test between the arch-rivals.

Awesome match. The Indians never knew what hit them. 39/6 and we still came back to obliterate their butts. Amazing feat by the boys!

Not one to blow my own trumpet, but Miggy was in quite a bit of despair at work at that stage and I reminded him of this

I had just arrived in the morning, with Miggy already there. He was the one who broke the news to me, so I'd imagine I'd have had an expression of real shock, before the rememberence of Calcutta came back to me

Great Eid Mubarak bump though

Always look on the bright side of life - whenever Pakistan play ! Good memories and Daoud is a liar !! :D

BUMP BUMP BUMP :D

A huge BUMP this one :))

The second heaviest defeat India has suffered! The way we fought back really jolted India and the poor team couldn't get back at any stage of the match! All due to one of the most amazing centuries I have ever witnessed by Kami. Coming in at 39/6, playing that kind of an innings would have been extremely difficult, yet he made it look so simple!

All in all a very memorable test match

That was a great victory for Pakistan ,in the process they unearthed a player with pure class called Asif .That can be easily included in the finest spell of fast bowling .He just cleaned up the cream of Indian batting within few overs.Kamran Akmal ,that was an unbelievable innings.

We can ,becos we don't consider 1983 test series of Pakistan a legitimate one and also those ODI's in the world cup are the serious affairs .According to one poster great Naved only consider those ODI's in world cup tourneys as the countable ones, all other ODI's are waste and worthless .When it matters ,on the big stage we always won against u.Or in all those high pressure matches u guys choked.

Just like in this particular test? Defeating a team by 344 runs (second heaviest defeat for India btw) isn't choking my friend :D

Why u are calling Saffies chokers ,they won more tests against u or me ,but they always choke in the pressure games. So pakistan always Choked against India in the world cup games .In the big stage.

did you ever win the world cup after beating us?
even when you beat us we still won the world cup in 1992

so the world cup matches really arent worth biothering with unless you won the world cup after beating us

We believe in winning world cups without beating minnows, e.g. 1983 ;-)

You do realize you beat Zimbabwe who did not have test status at that time?

Plus where we were in 99? Better question is where was your bowling attack and the mighty Tendulkar in 2003!

He did his job in WC2003.Also u guys got into 1992 semis by a fluke ''rain rule'' .and get into the semis of 1999 by beating Zimbabwe in super six ,lost to both South Africa and India.

Can I do a Naved here and tell Zimbabwe was better than Pakistan in 1983? :D

and hey, better don't bring Tendulkar name at all here else I would no time for this thread to get locked down. :))

hmm just let go of it Hash, its time to win more matches lets not dance around on past laurels.

it seems that WC was not long enough. It should have been finishing just about now. all are bored and looking for a fix

Brilliant thread this was.

I have distinct memories of this. It was snowing outside, and we couldn't go out, so we were watching this match, and BOY! What a start it was for India. Pathan blew up everything, and everyone in the house was just quite and staring as to why and how this could happen. And then...

Well, lets just leave it.

Just to let you know, more than 60% of the matches mentioned in that 64 figure, were in that Circus organized in Sharjah by bukhatir and fixed by Dawood and our own Azhar unfortunately.

Its pretty hard to let go of. This was one of the most amazing thrashing ever dished out to an international team in years! From the depths of despair to ridicuolously mauling the opposition like that (and that too specially India) is something pretty unforgettable

Really?India beat Pakistan in 2004 in Pakistan twice in test matches that too by well over an innings but you wont find me bragging about it all the time.

It called maturity and respecting your opponent which obviously is an alien concept to people like you.

The thing that made it so special was the fact that we were 39/6 in the first session! 39/6 and then roaring back to maul your opponents is something much better than what India managed in that 2003-04 series

Actually there are some matches which tend to occupy permanent space in mind. This match was certainly which most Pakistan fans would savor for long long time. Especially the one who witnessed the match for entire duration.

And it won't be good to compare this match with Ind-Pak 2004 series. If you have to compare, compare 39/6 with 281. You know what I mean right? :)

Can the below match ever bore you? :D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ind Vs Aus 2001, Second test
Venue: Kolkata

Australia 1st innings
445/10

India 1st innings
171/10

India 2nd innings (following on)
End of Day 3: Ind 250/4

Day 4
Lunch time: Ind 376/4
Tea time: Ind 491/4
End of Day 4: Ind 550/4

Day-5
Lunch time: Ind 657/7, Aus 24/0
Tea time: Aus 161/3
and in next 19 overs following tea: Aus 212 all out

Result Australia lost the match by 172 runs.

Some say quite possibly the greatest comeback in history, bravo to India for pulling off a stunning comback at 'home', credit where credit is due, fantastic game which made people stand up and become interested in cricket again, also ended a certain run Australia were on as well.

Unfortunately I didnt watch cricket at that time and i missed that match.

But i miss the good old days when we matched Asutralia somewhat. We did well in 2003-04 too.Wonder what will happen this summer.

And those innings of Dravid and Sehwag - I can turn back and remind you of YK's 1000+ runs in just 4 Tests against you, or even Inzamam's 186 in Bangalore! Anyhow, so long ago - a shame that Asif and Shoaib tormented your batsmen silly in the last match that they played each other - '03 is history now - we gunned your folks down big time and sweept the floor with them in '05. :19:

We eliminated you second time in the worldcups and you never eliminated us. That is the gist of 2003 and also the first over six off shoaib after you guys scored 279 odd runs and were confident of over-running us.

We eliminated you in WC '99 when we beat Zimbabwe in super six match at the Oval , sending your hopes of qualifying for the Semis down the drain. :13:

That is the gist of 2003

You got absolutely hammered and humiliated TWICE by austrealia - that was the GIST of '03.

and also the first over six off shoaib after you guys scored 279 odd runs and were confident of over-running us

So what? The thread you are posting in should remind you of how violent and decisive has been the revenge for that ODI. Tendulkar getting slammed on the head by Akhtar was a parting gift too.

where are the other 3 threads?

the one where Asif runs through the indian batting order

That would be pretty amusing to see, but this is certainly the best with the varying emotions through the day.

lol..that six is a minor six in history as compared to the six that eliminated the word confidence from the Indian cricket vocabulary..try Sharjah 20 odd years ago..now that was a hell of a six..oops but it must have been fixed so does it count??..lol..also does this mean that all Indian wins outside the WC are fixed too?...

still ,Pakistan always choked against India in the big stage .No six can change that . :) .Same logic of calling Saffies chokers.

yawn...cant see a bigger stage than 39-6 in a test match,!!..didnt see any choking then except from your rubbish bowling attack and over rated premadonna batting!!..lol..loved watching tendu bow down to the power of Pakistan!!..bow down little man!!!..lol..
