The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Aaqib Javed as the interim red-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, following the resignation of Jason Gillespie.

Aaqib’s first assignment in his new role will be a two-match Test series against South Africa during the ongoing all-format tour. The first Test will take place at SuperSport Park in Centurion from December 26 to 30, while the second Test is set for Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town from January 3 to 7.

The Pakistan men’s team is currently in South Africa, competing in a three-match T20I series, which will be followed by a three-match ODI series.

I commend Gillespie for showing the dignity and self-respect to step away from this job after the way he was treated, and the way he was going to be treated after this tour.

This clown board will never learn or understand the value of professionals. But I do wonder how many foreign coaches would would to take this job after this Aqib Javed experiment ends in tears. My guess is, not many!

The hires of two highly regarded foreign coaches in Kirsten and Gillespie in the spring were a coup. To think neither have lasted the year !

Gillespie especially deserved time given he'd overseen the England Test series win and the ODI series win in Australia (having taken over at short notice after Kirsten resigned).

PCB's reputation as an employer wasn't particularly high to begin with. Now they've made themselves a total laughing stock. Good luck attracting any decent coach in future.

They'll now leak anti-Gillespie propaganda via their paid journalists about how they're won't stay in Pakistan etc just like they did with Kirsten as if PCB are somehow the arbiters of professionalism and honouring contracts.

And the coup d'etat is complete...As much as I root for Pakistan, we really do it to ourselves, don't we? And then we have the gall to always assert "foreign interference" in all of our problems, instead of just looking in the mirror.

Nothing but respect for the way Jason Gillespie handled himself, after being disrespected and humiliated at every turn. We didn't deserve your services, and I hope we suffer for it. Jason is a class-act all around.

Lets not overlook the role certain players have played as well to ensure the departure of these coaches, remember ‘I’ve been playing for Pakistan for ages, who are you?’ & ‘I will captain if I am given special guarantees.’ PCB will always behave in a PCB way, but player power has resulted in these premature sackings in a fashion which is just unprecedented. These coaches clearly threatened the status quo our players wanted to maintain.

Shameful.

Well if PCB are struggling to find someone permanent I hear there's a Syrian guy who needs a gig.

Team could do with a few whacks from a sooti Middle Eastern style.

So the fault still lies with the PCB..
There would be no such thing as player power if the PCB appointments were based on meritocracy and was a legitimate organising body...

A kid will eat sweets in class, talk back to the teacher and bunk off if rules were relaxed

The govt and the PCB are running are proper clown show.

You can only despair.

Our institutions are mocked worldwide.

Now we are stuck forever with bitter ex players at that helm. Nobody decent is going to come near our cricket.

Wasn't aqib who prepared spin tracks and won pak series jason was insist on playing pacers one major problem with foreign coaches it that they dont understand our conditions just want to play pacers which wont work in pakistan.

From what a poster here mentioned is they wanted 4 pacers and Shadab. They should have damn well known we don't have the bowlers for this YET. Also persistence with Shadab?

I reckon we would have meandered for another 2 years to another world cup flop with the same TTFs.

I said this at the time of the Kirsten resignation that Dizzy would be doing the same soon and it happened albeit a few months later (after winning Eng test series and Aus ODI series).

Yet again PCB showcases to the world that they're a bunch of nutcases and the best in being an unprofessional organisation heck even Afghanistans board is better run than this.

Forget ever seeing a decent foreign coach even bothering to visit Pakistan let alone divulge in any coaching.

What can you even say at this point... white ball coach being hired and resigning before even coaching an ODI and Test coach resigning after Pakistan had a Test series win at home since forever. Seemed like they constantly humiliated him and forced to resign instead of firing to prevent a bigger payout. Stripped him of all his powers, he couldn't even select his own playing XI which is wild. Didn't renew his assistant coach contract without informing him.

Saved themselves a few bucks in the short term but if you're a person of any worth & value, there's absolutely no way you would be lining up to work with PCB in any capacity going forward. What a terrible organization full of terrible garbage people who treat anyone they don't want with complete disrespect and dispose of them any means necessary.

Pakistan beat Australia in Autstalia because of Rizwans captaincy and Raufs bowling.Good riddance to Gillespie if he doesn't want to stay in Pakistan.

but they must analyse that local coach is capable enough to hold this position and in Aaqib Javed's case answe is no.
Aqib javed has gotten results in odi and tests.

He got wins against aus and Eng in tests and odi. Infact he actually got rid of alot of dead weights like chacha, Shadab, Nawaz, Usama mir, Hasan Has been Ali, Imam etc.

I think people are judging him way too harshly for t20 cricket. It's clear he's one of the worst T20 coaches/ selectors to ever represent Pcb and Pakistan cricket.

As for the appointment of Rizwan. It's wrong but tbf to him, Misbah and ramiz ensured that Pakistan lacked options.

1) Fakhar was already booted before aqib came and even then fakhar has a horrible record against LQ.

2) Mohammad haris would have caused a nation to erupt. It would have been an azhar Ali situation all over again where a player who doesn't even represent Pakistan cricket and isn't in favour of selectors is now captain. (Although not a bad idea to have him)

3) Saud has a terrific record for captaining tests but a rubbish list A record.

4) sarfi is way too old now

5) Shan is only good for good presentations. He's clueless on the field, got rescued by aqib lol. But he could serve as a yes man, I'd like him over Abdullah shafique but omair takes priority as an opener is pcb wants to keep falhar out.

6) Shaheen is the only one who should have gotten it, but even then he can only be a t20 captain not an odi cap.

Genuinely aqib didn't really have anyone else.

I blame aqib for being lieneant on rizzu though. I would have shoved rizzu down at 7 in t20 and odi and have him play as a specialist captain and keeper only.

he was criticsing babar n rizwan for their low SR when he wasnt a part of the management but now in the last match we seen them doing opening again.. so this man is also a hypcrite who cant do wonders after becoming a coach.

When a clown moves into a palace he does not become a king, the palace turns into a circus.

Naqvi has turned Pakistan cricket into a circus. Losing to minnows like Afghanistan, US & Zimbabwe regularly, a team in total disarray and now the resignations of two world class coaches less than a year after hiring them.

This doesn't look good. 2 great coaches resigned very quickly.

Pakistan need to figure out why it happened and how it can be prevented in the future.
The bottom line is that the PCB wants foreign coaches to spend more time in Pakistan, while the coaches prefer high pay without being based there. So overall a good decision we need to move forward.

If the coaches can't coach babar and rizwan to play minimum at run a ball in powerplays then they are no good.

They were not allowed to do their jobs properly and didn’t want to give so much power & control to mediocre talent such as Rizwan & Babar, once the coaches went for the players, the writing was on the wall.
Poor stuff from PCB. These two are highly regarded coaches.

Poor management from PCB. As usual.

Gary and Jason wanted to change things their own way in which they had been successful in the past as a coach but PCB was going the other way.

No sane person is gonna stay in this system for a long time unless he is a beneficiary of this system like AAqib is.

By calling them clown you're giving Naqvi and co too much respect, they just bunch of idiots and selfish people , they have no interest in cricket.

Yes this i agree with.

But I am stating what's happened so far. If he starts flunking odi and tests you'll see me turn on him.

So far he's only made me hate him in t20

I had a doubt on Gillespie’s skills as a coach when he opted for all fast bowling lineup against Bangladesh in 1st test in Pakistan

Well he did "win" us the Test series vs England, didn't he?

In my previous comment I highlighted positives and negatives about aqib.

He's won test series against England and odi series against aus, Got rid of dead weights like chacha, Imam, Shadab, usama mir. Dropped bobby from tests and backed seasoned domestic fc performers like sajid, noman and Babar, Curated test roads to play to pak's strengths very similar to uae.

At the same time he's also the most incompetent t20 coach/selector of all time. Agha as vc is hilarious, so is farhan as a t20 opener + he is a hypocrite for critiquing babar and rizzu's low sr in t20 but is completly okay with them opening.

Its really a case of, good test and odi coach, horrible t20 coach.

I am expecting likes of Babar to come back into form now that there's no serious coach to monitor their performances.
Pressure is off

By calling them clown you're giving Naqvi and co too much respect, they just bunch of idiots and selfish people , they have no interest in cricket.
He is the biggest clown of them all. But we shouldn't give him too much credit. The people in key positions in this organization have been showing their incompetence for years now. They are all responsible for the mess we are in.

Have they not heard of contracts- If they did, why didn't they just specify the number of days in a year. Is it too hard for these idiots to draw up a decent contract.

PCB the comedy gift that keeps on giving

Well done Gillespie for resigning

The less said about Aaqib coaching skills the better

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
At least he will stay in Pak. Why do Pak need foreigners who can't even stay in Pak as long as needed. Good riddance to Gillespie. Rizwan's captaincy covered up for Jason.

It was a bit of a fluke ( not the win but the pitch preparation).

In the absence of proper systems sometimes these flukes or random acts come along and lull us into a false sense of security. When push comes to shove the whole thing ends up being hollow and we are in a bigger mess than before.

Nowadays when coaches are hired they come armed with presentations and information around what sort of identity they want the team to have.

These coaches were hired for a reason but the PCB chaos meant that they weren't able to show their vision.

We lost the Bangladesh series because of our batsmen not the pitches and as much as I enjoyed the England win is picking old timer spinners and openly doctoring the pitches to try and suit your team really a good sign for our team?

We were the first nation on earth to have selectors, coaches and captains to work on the pitch.

PCB were aware of Gillespies plans and vision from the outset, they gave him the job and then crapped the bed after some initial set backs. When you hire a coach you need to give them the times and tools to build a culture.

Instead we pulled the rug from under him after one set back and got annoyed he wasn't at the NCAA giving throwdowns.

I’m all for local coaches if the local coach is sensible and understands modern cricket.

Not interested in foreigners much. They can’t do anything and don’t understand local cricket/langauge.

Aqib so far has done fine in Tests but woefully bad in white ball cricket. Appointing RIZWAN as captain and then cherry on top opening with him is just undigestible.

His positive Test results kind of get canceled out by his terrible T20 strategy - ODIs too will get exposed because RIZWAN is the lead there too.

He has also selected players like Sahibzada, Haseebullah, Irfan Niazi who have absolutely no business playing any type of white ball cricket. Dropped Fakhar, Haris.

So you would rather have an incompetent pakistani coach because he will stay in pakistan 🤣🤦‍♂️

🤣🤣 people giving credit to Aaqib for spin tracks vs England, anyone thinking that the strategy of depending on two spinners to keep winning tests, ignoring how bad rest of bowling attack and the batting was in that series. Short term blind thinking, Pakistan using this method will come up against teams that play spin alot better than England.

Fans need to stop acting like aaqib turned Pakistan into world beaters after 2 test matches.

Harris was dropped before aquib took charge and irfan niazi has been with the team since the beginning of the year you can't blame aquib for that

Farhan has been scoring back to back 100's and 50's in domestic and haseebullah has been doing well in domestics they were both selected based on their domestic performances.

It's the coaches job to prepare them for different conditions in Australia and zimbabwe which the coaches obviously failed to do so, don't know if the coaches are lazy, incompetent or it's just language barrier

from a cricket point of view what's the point of paying high salaries just for the foreign name if its not going to improve pakistan cricket. Stick to local coaches and you will get the same if not better result without paying so much.

Going back to language barrier we have seen these players they can't string a sentence in English other than "all thanks to almighty allah" and "boys did well" I can't see a foreign coaches having a technical discussion with rizwan, Babar shaheen etc.. and you can't use a translator the meaning gets losts converting from English to urdu etc. And the translator him self probably have a very very limited knowledge of the English language.

Secondly, these foreign coaches don't understand the Pakistani culture and can't see them adapting it either these players need a coach who will stick a danda to get anything out of them

Your judgement is based on 1 test? maybe you should wait and see what he brings in the next test before writing him off. This strategy was for England only not for every single team touring pakistan. Point is we won a test series at home which we couldn't for 3 years

Be prepared to see the likes of Ahmed Daniyal in the mix for red ball reserves. Give this guy sometime and he will even bring back Sohail Akhtar back from dead.

It’s the selectors job to actually WATCH people bat, not just blindly select based on domestic stats.

These guys don’t pass the eye test at all. How come an experienced cricketer could not spot that Farhan and Haseebullah have no game against fast bowlers and zero offside striking ability.

Rest I agree foreign coaches are of no benefit - just look at India. Thriving with local coaches and sticking with them.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali, while speaking on his YouTube channel:

"He has made a very good decision not to go to South Africa. Why will he not go? Because South Africa isn't an easy place. Keep everything in mind."

"Jason Gillespie wanted to make his CV, which he did. This was the best time for him to step down. Winning the series against England was a very big achievement. What happens in our country? People just make their CVs."

hese players do really well at home, which explains their great domestic stats. But the real problem starts when they play outside Pakistan, where the conditions are totally different. That’s when the coaches should step in to help the batsmen adjust, but it makes you wonder—what have these foreign coaches actually been doing to fix this?

We’re also missing out on A-team tours to SENA countries like South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. The last one was probably around four years ago, and those tours are super important to prepare young players. Someone like Farhan has never faced fast, bouncy pitches before—how do you expect him to perform well without any experience in those conditions?

These guys don’t pass the eye test at all. How come an experienced cricketer could not spot that Farhan and Haseebullah have no game against fast bowlers and zero offside striking ability.

give me a list of players in Pakistan domestic that can actually play on australia's fast bouncy pitches

So with all the language barriers that you suggest, why were they appointed by Hulk Hogan. You have me on record on here that these Foreign coaches won't make a difference and that money is better invested in paying local players better and on better pitches. But if you do appoint them, then give them the best chance to succeed. This way we get the worst of both Worlds but why would the mafia care about PK. These thugs have no intelligence or morals.

As per reports:

Jason Gillespie resigned as Pakistan's Test coach after less than eight months in the role due to disagreements with the PCB regarding team selection and management. He felt alienated after not being consulted on the squad for the South Africa tour and the non-renewal of Tim Nielsen's contract, despite his request.

Gillespie had previously voiced frustration at being treated as just a "match day strategist" and was reportedly further disillusioned by unanswered calls to PCB leadership, ultimately leading to his departure. This follows a similar resignation by white-ball coach Gary Kirsten, highlighting ongoing issues within Pakistan's cricket management.

Jason Gillespie speaking during an ABC sport PODCAST:

“I went into the job eyes wide open, I want to make that really clear. I knew that Pakistan had cycled through a number of coaches in a pretty short space of time but I put my case forward and explained how I felt I could help.”

“You want to create an environment where players are relaxed but focused and get out and do the job and give them the freedom to go out and play the game.”

“I felt that in the red ball, in the Test side, we were very much on track doing that which culminated in that series win against England.”

“So a lot of good stuff happened from when I took the job on to where things have finished up (now), I didn’t get on the plane on Friday.”

“But the straw that broke the camel’s back… as a head coach you like to have clear communication with your employer and I was completely and utterly blindsided by a decision to no longer have a high-performance coach.”

“My senior assistant coach Tim Nielsen was told his services were no longer required and I had zero communication from anyone about that and I just thought after a number of other things that had gone on in the previous few months, that was the moment I thought well I’m not really sure they actually want me to do this job.”

“When things started to change… and I felt my opportunity to be able help was severely diminished by a reduced role, in essence I was basically hitting catches and that was about it on the morning of a game.”

“You want to be able to have clear communication with all stakeholders, including selectors and knowing what the team is as head coach at least a day before the game so you can help plan and prepare the players.?

“That just made things a lot more difficult to be able to do my job effectively and then the board decided to not allow Tim to travel to South Africa, I’ve heard that was on the recommendation of someone which in essence made my job untenable.”

“That was the frustrating thing as well, I had developed a really close relationship with the Test captain, Shan Masood.”

“We were certainly going in the right direction and things were going really well, all the feedback that I’d got or the PCB got was just how effective Tim had been in his role and the players were getting a lot out of him, they called him grandpa and there was some good banter between the boys.?

“So to get all the positive feedback from everyone involved with Pakistan cricket about how effective we were as a coaching group, for a decision to then be made (about Nielsen) and the head coach doesn’t get a text message, phone call or email about a decision that’s a pretty big decision. It just left me thinking well I’m really not sure if the PCB wants me.”

“The talent I’ve seen in Pakistan is as good as anywhere in the world. Pakistan is a country of 250 million people and cricket is the sport, there is no other sport. Cricket is number one and then it’s daylight. Everyone rides the result of the team so much and the world has ended if the team loses. There’s jubilation everywhere if the team wins.

“The talent is there, if it can be nurtured and developed and everything moves in the direction, there’s no reason why Pakistan can’t be a powerhouse.

“Part of the reason I took the job on was the challenge. You want to create a safe environment where players feel their voices are heard and I know sometimes in cricket the senior players are the only ones who are allowed to have an opinion or speak.

“Shan and I spoke a lot about that and the players about whether you play one Test match or 100, it’s irrelevant if you’ve got something of value to contribute to the team you can do that in a safe space and we felt we were making so many gains in that space.”

I predicted this the day Gary Kirsten left the job, and to be quite honest, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to foresee it. Especially when you consider that the PCB did everything in their power to drive him away, and how Aqib Javed managed to maneuver his way into this situation. To his credit, Gillespie seemed to be doing his best to make it work. But there’s only so much you can push someone before they reach their breaking point.

Pakistan cricket is no place for professionals who are committed to making a difference. Remember Steve Rixon? People like Aqib Javed are a perfect fit for Pakistan cricket because their level of professionalism is on-par with the level of professionalism of the PCB.

Aqib is a coward who takes credit for success but disappears when the team loses. both Kirsten and Gillespie are far better coaches than him but Pakistan lost both because of him.

People are viewing things with a very narrow lens. Just because someone is foreign doesn't mean their a right fit.

What happened with Gary Kristen is unfair. He was booted into the team at the eve of a world cup when the entire team was in shambles and then he was kicked out of the team before making any changes or having a single say.

But Gillespie was the right call. I love Aussies but let's be honest, the dude wanted the same team to play the next test series. The same team that lost to Bangladesh 2-0 and got butchered for 800 runs against England.

Any coach shpuld have told pcb to change the pitch and change the bowlers + remove bobby. He didn't.

But he's Gary was unfairly treated no doubt

“Shan and I spoke a lot about that and the players about whether you play one Test match or 100, it’s irrelevant if you’ve got something of value to contribute to the team you can do that in a safe space and we felt we were making so many gains in that space.”
my Jason your definitely not going the right direction when your losing to Bangladesh at home

Aqib is a coward who takes credit for success but disappears when the team loses. both Kirsten and Gillespie are far better coaches than him but Pakistan lost both because of him.

Since Aqib took over, Babar's T20 performances have been:

31, 0, 41, 3, 3

Rizwan's T20 performances since Aqib took over have been:

11, 74 (a selfish 74), 16, 0

If Pakistan's so-called best batsmen can't perform, you can't put the blame on Aqib. You're lucky to even see your favourites on TV doing absolutely nothing.

If I were Aqib, I'd sack both of them. in fact you should worship aqib for not sacking them both.

Both are better cricketers than Aqib ever was. They don’t need him but Aqib needs both to pretend that he is a good coach.

Also, Aqib has complete authority on squad selection and he has selected pathetic squads so far which sums him up.

Everything about Aqib projects mediocrity. His cricket career as well as his coaching. He is just a very average person with a very average cricketing mind. Only in Pakistan can an average person like him be put on a pedestal.

How is he selecting a pathetic squad is Babar and rizzu are still your no 3 and no 4 and still your t20 openers?

Babar and rizwan are failing left and right? So will you acknowledge their pathetic players in the squad that aqib has selected?

Jason Gillespie took charge of the Pakistan team in April, and we lost our first series at home to Bangladesh. Aqib became the selector in October, and we went on to win two Test matches against England. That says it all.

I’ve got no doubt Jason Gillespie is a much better coach than Aqib, but it’s like giving a Ferrari to someone who’s only driven a cart they wouldn’t know what to do with it. Same with our "pindu" cricketers; they need a local coach who can give them a kick up the back and speak their language.

He picked Sahibzada in the same XI as Babar and Rizwan. He is also persisting with rubbish hacks like Usman and Tayyab when they are both not good enough to play at this level.

He keeps neglecting Fakhar who is the best middle-order batsman in T20 format in Pakistan. I don’t accept this excuse that PCB doesn’t want him.

That might be somewhat true, but Aqib has a lot of influence right now and if he really wanted Fakhar, he could have negotiated with Naqvi.
