What's new

Afghanistan U19 thrash Pakistan U19 by 185 runs to win the ACC U19 Asia Cup

Only Talha Khan looks promising

Rohail Nazir's real age is 22 year old, I know this through a friend.

What on earth do these players do in domestic if the can’t play spinners?

Don't think we can even score 100 either. Our team needs serious batsmen if we want to do well in World cup

Unfortunately they havent got a lot of oppurtunities in main domestic circuit mainly U19 domestic circuit

Rashid Latif was saying many of them are over 20, reason they don't progess much apart from one or two.

These guys could have done better if they coukd have got more opportunities to play alongside senior team. One of the reason this Afghan team is playing well is that most of these players played with senior guys in their T20 tournument.

It makes hell of a difference

One can clearly see the difference between Hasan Khan and others, confidence wise as he played PSL last year and few other tournuments with seniors unlike the rest lf these guys.

Alot of work needed to be done before WC. Here they can’t play spin and in NZ they will struggle against bounce and swing.
Sameen Gul needs to be included and some other better batsmen.

Wouldnt have been a bad option to ask the departments to select one of these guys of these U19 potential selections for world cup in their team (one must) for Qae trophy or atleast the one day cup

Sameen Gul and Ghulam Mudassar both cab be considered but they are considered to be at next level now may be or they wanna produce more youngsters as Gul and Mudassar are known commodities

Mudassir is overage, he's 21-22. Sameen is overage as well, but don't take my word for it.

Cant comment on that but with their official age they are eligible but its better to produce more players for world cup than using already produced crop

What a bowler this guy Mujeeb is turning out to be

So performance still same whether we bat or ball first. Need a serious look in the team and get rid of dead woods

India and Bangladesh saved from the wrath of Afg U19 in group stage as well

What a bowler this guy Mujeeb is turning out to be

We did same with Markas North of Australia by given him 6 wickets. Mujeeb is not that good like Rashid or Nabi, its our batsmen who are pathetic. Whole tournament our batting was struggling

He bowled well in every match but surely not as unplayable as we are making him to be

The guy took the most wicket at age level cricket in a 5 match series against BD including a 7 wicket haul.

Then 6 wicket haul in group match against Pakistan.

6 wicket haul against Nepal in semi

And 5 wicket in final against Pakistan as well.

Took wicket against SL and was economical as well. Something like 2 for 29 of 10 overs.

Even Rashid Khan did not produce figures like this. So he is definitely talented.

Its clean and he can get carrom ball and googlies going along with his offies. Pak didnt have a solid strategy against him

I feel like his offspinner does have a bit of a kink in his action, but I could be wrong.

We need to change the coach as well I guess as the strategy and tactics were all over the place

Rashid Khan was nowhere near him at u-19 level, but Rashid has a very cool head. Once Rashid started performing he never has gone through a bad period. Time will show whether Mujib has it in himself as well.

Anyway, they now must be one of the favorites for the world cup, esp. with they add Baheer Mahbob into their batting line-up www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/976571.html

What an absolutely embarrassing defeat for our boys

The team needs a real shuffle, PCB needs to look into getting some better batsmen and spinners into the team.

Genetically stronger guys tend to do better at u19 level. So AFG will do well at this level i think.

Yeah, our guys looked malnourished compared to the Afghani players.

Some of the Afghani players did look over 19, anyone else think this? Especially the guy that scored 100. Could just be genetics.

Have seen a few guys that looked older but were legit about there age.

Ikram Faizi as he used to be called played in Peshawar at a refugee academy at his early days. I have seen him, he isn't too old for this age group.

I guess the beard makes him look old

who is this Muhammad Musa guy of pakistan u-19 he has taken 3 wickets in almost every match he has played

Musa is an Afghan refugee who could have played for Afghanistan, but didn't want to go through their domestic system.

I didnt know PCB were such a humane board that they select even refugees for their national u19 team.

Very well played Pakistan!
Won against all teams except Afghanistan..
Thank God we lost this game now selectors will make some changes especially to the opening partnership and MO

If that is the case Australians should have done better than India at U 19 as caucasians are much stronger than Desis in general.Dude, this is cricket, not NFL.Skills are way more important than physical strength here.

I was following the match thread yesterday for a while and thought Pak would easily chase this as Pak fans said it is a flat piarch.

Looks like Afghanistan bowling is world class to skittle Pak out for 60 runs on a flat wicket.

Congrats Afghans.

Congrats to the Afghan boys first.

No credit taken for twice such humiliation, but I think the match was given on plate to them by PAK.

To be honest, both AFG & PAK team is similar in their strength - that’s wicket taking bowling ability and classy but brittle batting line up. PAK has added one stupidity recently in their cricket at every level, that’s - “dart syndrome”, which is picking spinners on batting merit and this team also had 3/4 spinners who are batsman first or a combo of both - hence the all-rounder leggi is picked over the specialist leggi kid taking highest wicket in both format in recent U19 regional tournaments. That’s the telling difference with AFG attack & PAK attack, otherwise by composition both teams are similar.

Now, with or against such team (s), one thing you should never do is chase in any match, let alone finals. Batting 2nd eventually resulted a 6 runs improvement, so I guess it does prove something. SRL made the use of exactly this weakness in both matches - that’s bat first, put a score on board and make the equation of 10 wickets, rather than 50 overs. Not saying batting first would have altered 180+ margin, but that was only possible chance for PAK.

Trolling was high on Athar’s nationality more than what he was saying when AFGs were batting, so I just avoided PP, and watched the game silently, but he explained exactly this with his auto rickshaw English, which got few tools opening mouth well before they should have. I just avoided bittering my taste at the start of a match, otherwise, then and then I would have written exactly same of what Athar was explaining - put 230 to 240 on board, which they were on course after 20 overs; should be more than enough.

AFG’s strength is hitting power when set and solid hitters no. 4-6, so their strategy was not to lose the match in first 10-12 overs - that’s what SRL did against PAK’s opening pair. Once they reached 69/1 in 20 overs, they were destined to reach 210+; bonus 35 was added because of the “dart syndrome” and they would defend 200+ against any team in this tournament, may be apart from BD sometimes, whose top 5 are proper batsman - if they are given a task to win a match by playing out 50 overs, chances are high that most time they’ll do that, while PAK was probably the last among 6 teams to do - so, that fielding decision was as foolish as Wasim choosing to test his batsmen’s skills against Mac, Fleming & Rifle in a gloomy, wet, windy morning Lord’s track.

O bhai your team didn’t even make the knockouts :)))

This was painful to watch to be honest especially the batting from our guys. I don't blame these kids but how can people running our domestic cricket sleep with peace after watching such an appalling show? Sethi is too soft on these dons.

It’s ok.

Pakistan lost. Jo maza Pakistan ki haar mein hain,..,,,,,, Syed1

The same feeling we had at the end of every tournament for India when our team was pathetic in the early 2010s to 2017..I see it is the other way round now.

Congrats Afghanistan.

I can’t stand Atahar Ali, but tbh it is sometimes sad to see people being so petty in here.

Fantastic result for Afghanistan. Great to know that their future is in the right hands.
