Argentina defeat France 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The only negative thing about this world cup has been these ridiculous injury time. 8 bloody minutes for what?

I think more extra time is good because players often waste time with injuries and substitutions (deliberately).
 
Looks like an England loss here. Southgate done a reasonable job tactically — barely a sniff for Mbappe — but France have a bit more quality, and you can’t miss a penalty against them. Ah well… decent effort.
 
Griezmann is a France legend. He was their best player in Euro 2016 & the previous World Cup winning campaign & he has been stellar yet again in this World Cup.

His club career has been a mess over the last 3 years, but he keeps delivering for his country. He might not have started in this World Cup if Benzema & Nkunku were fit, but he has etched his name in the history of French football.

Comfortably the most under appreciated footballer of his generation.
 
Argentina vs France. Messi vs Mbappe.

It will not just be a battle for the World Cup glory but also a battle for the Golden Ball & Ballon d’Or.

Winner takes all.

Tbh, Lloris has been their best player in big games. Kane has played in three finals for Spurs and didn't turn up in any of them. You are right about English being chokers lol.

Yes, real quality player, even without the goals he used to hit, he still produces real cutting edge contributions.
 
Make Kane taken this too.. why only Penalties that was a great kick should had allowed him to take the Penalty as well

Congrats France

Kane should have concentrated on penalty scoring rather than OneLove armband. Ironically Hugo the French Keeper refused to wear it.

The better side won, no point crying now.

He doesn't get the respect that he deserves. He is a quality player. A shame he has played a lot of his club career for a negative manager like Simone, who makes it hard for any attacking player to truly flourish.

Giroud is another underrated player who doesn't get the respect that he deserves. You don't become France's top scorer without having something about you.
 
Morocco playing a World Cup final would be a special story but I don’t see them getting past France.

They are due a bad game & at some point that defense will break down. France have too much talent & pedigree.

Mbappe, Griezmann, Dembele & Giroud, they all carry a different threat. Apart from Messi’s brilliance, I don’t see either Morocco or Croatia getting the better of them.

Argentina would also be a straightforward opponent for them if it wasn’t for the presence of the GOAT.

The percentage of African immigrants is higher in France than in England which is why they are more diverse.

Not that many Asian players playing Football at high levels in England. There's Arjan Raikhy from Aston Villa and Zidane Iqbal from Manchester United who might have a chance in the Premier League. But with such a small pool its hard to see someone making the national team.

Why would you not trust Kane to take the penalty? Kane is usually a top notch penalty taker, just made a bad attempt there
 
I want to see the 2 best teams in the Finals, so am hoping for a France vs Argentina match. Its fitting that Messi's last match will be a final. Shame Portugal could also not make it.
 
We could have a repeat of 2018 world cup final with France vs Croatia. If that happens, it will only be the second time that we had the same two teams in back to back world cup finals. The only other time it happened was during the 1986 & 1990 editions, where Argentina and West Germany played each other in the finals.
 
A spectacular game for the Les Blues, just too powerful for Southgate's minions.

This is a proud moment for catholics all over the world.

Very strong hindsight benefit. Kane is one of the all-time great penalty takers & had Bellingham missed, Kane would have been criticized for not having the nerve.
 
At a time when Germany and Spain are in their worst period and Italy and Netherlands not being particularly good either, you would expect England to reach Semis.
They were no pushovers but difference in quality was easily visible.

Germany has been knocking out Argentina since 1990 lol, glad they are out.
 
I have seen all the matches since 1982, when Keegan missed from a couple yards out and England went out. The story is the same,someone freezes at the crucial time or the ref makes an error, or the penalty shoot is a disaster. After all these matches its not surprising and I don't see England ever winning a WC again.
 
As predicted England aren't gonna win. They had their chance last year. Watch them crumble in group stages for the next few decades now.

It would be the greatest upset in football history if Morocco win .. atleast since South Korea knocked out Italy in 2002.
 
This France team is nowhere near as good as previous teams.

But they are getting results and that's what counts.

Tbh England would have been knocked out by Morroco in the semis. England pundits massively underrating the Moroccan resilience. They will take France right through to penalties I recon

I also think it may go down to penalty shootout between Morocco and France.

France are favorites but Morocco have a good chance also.

Morocco has already done three “upsets” Portugal Belgium and Spain(two in KO), so they have bettered S Korea’s record.
 
In summary:

1. Another awful referee tonight who let France get away with so many fouls.
2. Kane choked it.
3. England need to move on from Southgate. He doesn't know how to utilise the talent and the pace of the players he has at his disposal.

England's World Cup campaign ended in disappointment as they went out despite a fine performance in the quarter-final against France at Al Bayt Stadium.

Harry Kane's late penalty miss proved decisive after he had earlier equalled Wayne Rooney's England record of 53 goals from the spot.

France took a 17th-minute lead when Aurelien Tchouameni's 25-yard drive beat Jordan Pickford low to his right.

England were the better team for long spells and created chances, deservedly pulling level nine minutes after the break when Kane beat Tottenham team-mate Hugo Lloris in convincing fashion with his penalty after Tchouameni fouled Bukayo Saka.

France regained the lead 12 minutes from time when Olivier Giroud headed in Antoine Griezmann's perfect cross but England had a swift chance to draw level when Theo Hernandez fouled substitute Mason Mount in the box.

Kane had the opportunity make history but uncharacteristically blazed his penalty over the top and England's World Cup dream was over as France look forward to a semi-final against Morocco.
 
England have a lot of young talent. Bellingham, Saka, Foden, Rashford all very young and promising. Is another golden generation of players shaping up for England ?

They will never get a better chance than this. But at least they are coaching proper football now rather than long ball crap, so who knows. Maybe down the line there will be more Jude Bellinghams coming through.

No he won't. Face it England screwed up and the only player who'll be better at the next WC is Bellingham. Euros and this they threw away their chances at silverware. Few barren decades incoming now.

It makes no difference. They could have Ronaldo, Zico, Pele and Messi and they still won't win. This is a mental block that they will never overcome.

They won't win anything even without Southgate.

If you take a top 10 of the best players in the world each year for the last 15 years you will struggle to find any englishmen.
