What's new

Arsenal FC | 2020/21 Season

Thankfully the management seem to have swallowed their pride and accepted their mistake - which Arteta has not often done - with Willian. Hopefully we can get rid of him and put this horrible season behind us.

Bellerin will be allowed to leave. It was reported that Xhaka,Leno, and Willian want to leave as well. Could be plenty of change for Arsenal in the summer.

All we need now is for a big offer to come from a big club like Liverpool, Man City or even Chelsea for Sakha and/or ESR and they'll be gone. Without any European football and a big rebuilding job ahead we would be foolish to assume our young talent will remain just for the "love" for Arsenal.

Neither player is going anywhere else at this stage of their careers. Why would they swap guaranteed playtime at Arsenal for the bench elsewhere? What can they command financially? Saka has had one good season and ESR half of a good season - it's a great start but a lot can change from there. Arsenal are the only club who'll ensure their development.

When Saka and ESR reach their primes Arsenal have a lot to worry about. They better hope they're top 4 again by then.

Some players just want to win trophies.

Chamberlain left Arsenal for Liverpool’s bench when he was on the brink of becoming an established starter.

Now he will be sold to some lower-half PL side but he will leave Liverpool’s bench with a PL and UCL trophy, something that Arsenal could not give him.

Arsenal's Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira will decide his future after next month's World Cup qualifiers. The 25-year-old spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Atletico Madrid

Sakha should not be sold for anything less than £120m

Sakha should not be sold for anything less than £120m

No one will pay £120m for a winger/attacking player who is producing single digit goals and assists per season.

Saka has a lot of potential and upside but he needs to do a lot more before he can fetch a 100m+ fee.

The £120M price tag is to scare away any potential suitors at clubs who have very deep pockets. If they want your prized asset, then they really need to dig deep and get him. Otherwise Arsenal have no need to sell him at all.

One report suggests his market value on statistical merit is £54m. Man City will sign their bench striker for this price, it’s peanuts.

another report suggests that his market value in January is in the range of €120m-150m. Arsenal will be kicking themselves if they can’t make at least £200M from the sales of Smith Rowe and Saka. These two will be huge players in 2-3 years time

Arsenal have no need to sell but if the player’s head is turned, the situation becomes complicated. If Saka and ESR express their desire to leave, Arsenal will not be able to hold onto them for long.

One can only hope that Arteta will show more teeth than Wenger when it comes to forcing players to stay.

Vieira in 2004 and Fabregas in 2010 are probably the only two instances where Wenger forced a player to stay in spite of their explicit desire to leave.

Roma are in talks to sign Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to Sky in Italy.

The Gunners want a fee in the region of £21.5m (€25m), however Roma want to pay something closer to £10m plus bonuses.

Xhaka was requested by new Roma boss Jose Mourinho, who was named as Paulo Fonseca's replacement in May.

Looks like Xhaka will leave. Bellerin wants to leave. Willian wants to leave as well. I can see some of the hale end boys and potentially Leno leaving.

Nothing really concrete about who will come in.

Luiz and Ceballos are already gone. Xhaka, Odegaard, Bellerin, Lacazette, Willian and Leno very likely to follow. That's a big first team exodus without even accounting for the youngsters, loan players or offers which could come in for anyone else.

I imagine most of them simply won't be replaced this year. Not a terrible outcome for Arteta who would have been told he needed to trim the wage bill. This may make room for him to make the 1 or 2 decent signings Arsenal need in this window which will mostly be an upgrade on those who are leaving the club.

As far as I know Arsenal want 2 CMs regardless what happens to Xhaka and a right back will be signed if Bellerin leaves and GK if Leno leaves.

It won't be hard to upgrade on most of the players leaving.

We are not London's biggest club anymore.

The gulf between Arsenal and Chelsea at present is too big on paper and especially when you consider one has won 2 x CL titles and the other's biggest European prize is the Cup Winners Cup.

Literally the worst season to be a gooner.

One can only imagine what Arsenal would have achieved if they stayed at Highbury instead of the Emirates stadium. In hindsight, the move to the Emirates has been a complete failure. We moved to Emirates to compete with the likes of Barcelona, Madrid, Juventus, Bayern, Inter, AC Milan...the giants of Europe. Instead, we have now become a serious mid table club with no end in sight when it comes to our mediocrity.

We have recently started to spend money in a more competitive way in the Transfer market, yet we are turning bright prospects+proven players into hit and miss footballers who cannot guarantee consistency!

We have tried overhauls, we have tried big wages (£300k per week+) for the big names, yet we are always well behind 5-6 clubs every season

I would do anything to sell this cursed Stadium and go back to the fortress of Highbury! Biggest mistake ever to leave that place

Arsenal have told Roma manager Jose Mourinho they want £17m for Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka, 28.

Well summarised.

The outcome that we see with Arsenal today is unfortunately the result of having the worst run club in Europe, certainly the worst board and recruitment department at the very least.

I disagree.

To be a bigger club in England or London, Chelsea will have to win more league titles than Arsenal.

You do not become a bigger club in England by winning more European cups; you become a bigger club in England by winning more English league titles.

Arsenal still has 7 more league titles than Chelsea. That is a quite a significant gap within the context of the English game. Furthermore, Arsenal are also the record-holders of the FA Cup with 14 medals, 6 more than Chelsea.

I don't see how winning two UCLs makes Chelsea a bigger club than Arsenal in English football. Sure, they are bigger in the European context, but as long as they do not surpass Arsenal when it comes to English honors, Arsenal will remain the third biggest club in England for now.

However, considering the trajectories of both clubs, it is only a matter of time before Chelsea surpasses Arsenal's leagues and FA Cup trophies.

Well, Arsenal have just lost out in the chase of Buendia to Aston Villa.

Pretty damning argument to those suggesting Arsenal are bigger than Chelsea right now. It's all relative, but the undeniable feeling is that Arsenal remain on a steep decline with no end in sight.

Of course. Chelsea have won 5 league titles since 2004 while Arsenal have won 0.

At this rate, both City and Chelsea will overtake Arsenal’s league titles in due time.

In 15-20 years time, Arsenal will not even be among the top 4 clubs in England based on English honors.

Nevertheless, things change very quickly in football. Arsenal is ripe for a passionate billionaire to take-over. It has everything that City in 2008 did not have.

It has history, brand value, global fan-base, massive stadium, London etc.

Arsenal can win 4-5 league titles over a 10 year period and make up for the mediocrity of the last 15 years but only if there is a take-over.

If that does not happen, Arsenal have no chance of competing unless they find players like Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane etc. in their youth academy which is obviously not going to happen.

You cannot compete with the financial muscle of City, Chelsea, United and Liverpool when you get outbid by Aston Villa.

Getting interesting this now - Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek says he has 'secured the funds' to takeover Arsenal and will now present a 'very compelling offer' to owners Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke to buy the club.

Spotify owner Daniel Ek looks set to increase his bid to buy Arsenal to £2bn.

Three weeks ago, the 38-year old Swede confirmed his initial offer of £1.8bn had been rejected by club owner Stan Kroenke.

Despite the rejection, Ek confirmed he remained interested in buying the club and it is understood the billionaire Arsenal fan is now preparing to increase his offer to £2bn.

Stan Kroenke's position remains unchanged. He and his son Josh released a statement at the end of April saying they remain "100 per cent committed to Arsenal and are not selling any stake in the club".

"Our ambition for Arsenal remains to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and our focus remains on improving our competitiveness on the pitch to achieve this," the statement read.

The billionaire said he would make a "very compelling offer" to the Kroenkes in order for them to sell the club after fans protested outside the Emirates Stadium in April following Arsenal's decision to join a European Super League and called for the club's current ownership to resign.

Ek has held constructive talks with the Arsenal Supporters' Trust (AST), while Gunners legends Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp are backing the Swede's takeover ambitions.

Henry confirmed to Sky Sports last month Ek had "reached out" to the Kroenke family to present an offer to buy Arsenal and wants to "reinject the Arsenal DNA".

ROMA IN ADVANCED TALKS FOR XHAKA

Roma are in advanced negotiations with Arsenal for the transfer of midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Roma are thought to be close to Arsenal’s valuation – but have yet to agree a fee.

Personal terms are not expected to be a problem.

Xhaka is currently with the Switzerland squad ahead of Euro 2020.
