What's new

Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

Seems Arsenal are still in the race to sign Declan Rice.

I guess it might depend on who they can offload in the coming weeks.

The club has CL money now, so no excuse to gey players in first, they shouldn't have to sell 1st. West Ham are going to want most of the transfer fee upfront, so the usual low balling rubbish from edu won't work, other clubs will just come and put money down and sign him.

Man city, Liverpool, Chelsea, united are all looking to get midfielders in summer, so Arsenal's useless tactic of dragging transfers out will back fire again.

If Arsenal don't win today, City could end up at end of season 9 points ahead of Arsenal. If that's the case after being 8 points clear, that's a shambles.

Today I’m Arsenal supporter. Come on, 3 points against Forest is a must.

Partey (RB) and kiwor (LB) - that sums up how clueless this manager is
Mamoon will call it tactical master class from Fraudeta

Well done mikel fraudeta - 2 wins from last 8, City are champions.

Embarrassing end to season.

This fraud should be sacked, Arsenal will remain bottle jobs under this clown.

This thread is full of extremes.

On the one hand you have a poster who claimed the title was in the bag several months ago. Then you have a poster who has been utterly negative of our team and prospects throughout the season.

Perspective.

We're still short in various positions and need to buy well in the summer.
Despite the pain of the last week and some unthinkable decisions taken by the manager I will reserve judgement until at least end September 2023.

City winning with 3 games to spare is embarrassing when you consider where we were with an 8 point lead. What a terrible slump.

From football fans?

You must be kidding?!

Yeah that was big Sam's bolton. We won away to bolton the season before 2-0 on way to title. This time they threw a 2-0 lead away and was one of games which cost the team the league. Playing a donkey like Cygan ( just as bad as Rob holding) didn't help. Back then bolton did have a few good players like ochocha and djorkaeff.

I always knew this season the Liverpool results was the key one. That's why at no point did I think we would win title. Saj kept asking question and I said ask me after Liverpool game, if we had won thar game I think we would have.

Also all along I said 90 points will win title, Arsenal ain't getting 90 points.

Mentally this team knows they can't beat city when they play them. Also now it's being said that after dropping points in all these games, Arteta had meeting with players and said the season was a success. When the clubs manager for 2nd season running is calling it a succees after bottling top 4 and now the PL, the club ain't winning anything. A loser and weak mentality is there because of Arteta and supposedly it was the "toxic players" of past that were a problem. Yeah we did need to go to City with a bigger lead then we did but both occasions before we played them we bottled games.

This won't change next season either as their is no accountability for failure, just celebrating mediocrity.

I remember the game very well. We were cruising at the Reebok Stadium until we bottled it. We never recovered after that game.

I agree had we beaten Liverpool, I reckon we would've sealed the title. They say it's the hope that kills you and in that respect this season has been the worst after throwing away an 8 point lead.

Then we have fans like you that are deluded and accept that winning 2 out of 8 games is acceptable. I await more pathetic sore loser excuses from "Mr postive" in september

As a strong believer in karma, I have to say I place a small amount of blame on you and the "title is in the bag" poster...

But remember this, as much I wanted us to win the league this year, it will always wishful thinking. I told you this before and will say it again... for your own piece of mind, learn to reserve judgement. It's good to get your point across but it doesn't have to be repeated post after post.

At the end of the day, the inexperience of the team and Arteta has shown during the last 8 games.

We have been brilliant for the first 75-80% of the season but let ourselves down towards the end of this campaign. We never recovered from the 2-0 leads we let slip against Liverpool and West Ham.

An unwanted record for Arsenal

Man City win the Premier League

Arsenal led the Premier League table for 248 days in 2022-23, the most for a team who failed to win the title in English top-flight history.

With just two wins in their last eight games, the Gunners lost their form at just the wrong time.

Arteta has been exposed with his squad rotation.

Jesus, for all his bravado and skill on the ball, is not a prolific goal scorer. I said this when they'll we bought him.
Since his knee injury he's not been able to hold the ball up as he used to. It's always 10/10 for effort but not so much for productivity.

Sake's form also dropped off big time.
Not sure if he's carrying an injury or just tired of getting kicked in the ankles all the time. You can see he's stopped driving into the box and it's not just that they have two people on him. He was going passed defenders for fun prior to March.

Partey's form too has dropped but he's played more games this season and that has been a positive of sorts.

Martineli has been brilliant this season and has really kicked on. IMHO Trossard is a notch below but he's only been in the setup for a few months and will hopefully do better as he gets used to playing with his new teammates.

Saliba has been a huge miss. No more needs to be said about him.

So we need proper squad depth. Players they come in and the quality doesn't drop.
A good squad depth keeps everyone on top form.

It's going to be a huge summer transfer window. Let's see how much the kroenke's are prepared to spend

I thought Arsenal were applying pressure on Man City all season, but in the end literally gifted City with the title!

To pick up only 9 points in 8 games is an embarrassing bottle job anyway you look at it.

Most big clubs with accountability would sack their managers for this, Arsenal are happy bottling things every season and will dress up as progress.

Next season will be phase 4 of the process "where club will find something else to bottle"

Spanish brendon Rogers exposed, just like liverpool got rid of Rogers and got klopp. Arsenal need to do same and replace this fraud with a proper manager.

I would keep him for now.

Why? Because we were "bottling" everything , bar the FA Cup, since 2005 to 2023, under different managers and different players.

So from my perspective, and after watching them play this season, I would give the current manager more time. How much more I really can't say but at least until end September.

As a neutral I think it's disappointing how Arsenal have ended the season, apart from turning up against us (and even then we created lots of chances) they've just meekly surrendered

There is no shame in losing the title to City but the last 6 weeks or so have been very poor, some unacceptable performances/results in there

The concern will be if this scars the young team, last thing you want is the "bottle" tag to stick and grow, like the way Spursy has become a thing

We werent expected to challenge for title

The last 6 weeks aren't a shock.

I pointed out earlier Arsenal consistently go on bad runs while arteta is in charge. Numerous times not winning for 3+ games.

That's on the manager been able to come up with quick solutions and answers

But some are happy with so called progress and bottling it Every season

I disagree it was a bottle job in the truest sense. I always believed City were going to usurp Arsenal as the gap wasn't wide enough.

Yes they have disintegrated at the death but pressure was too much and heads had gone after Brighton. That said I have really enjoyed it.

"After watching them play this season"..

It gives me hope.

The last 8 games are anything to go by, you will be hoping they don't get relegated this season.

This season reminds of when Liverpool bottled the league under Rogers, another tactically inept manager who got found out and was eventually sacked.

It will soon go from hope, to prayers

If City win 2 games in hand it's a 18 point swing in 8 games. That's biggest bottle job in PL history.

No team has collapsed like this at end of a season in a so called title race.

Arteta telling the team they have done well.

Well time will tell.

Last season

- Lost 1st 3 games of the PL season
- lost 3 in 4 games vs everton, Liverpool, Man united
- didn't win a game in January (lost to City, drew vs Burnley in PL, drew and lost vs Liverpool in LC, lost in FA Cup vs Notts forrest)
- lost 3 games in a row (Palace, Southampton, brighton)
- lost 2 games in a row (spurs, newcastle)

This season

- 3 games without a win (Everton, Brentford, man City)
- 4 games without a win (Liverpool, west ham, Southampton, man city)
- 2 games in a row lost vs Brighton, Forrest (2 wins in 8 games)

----

Manager is unable to come up with answers after defeats, trust the process hey!

So basically from Arsenal's signing from summer TW onwards were seen

Jesus - not score enough goals (was to be expected)
Zinchenko - prove he's a liability as a defender
Vieira - huge flop
Trossard - done well, but then not picked for ages
Kiwor - doesn't look up to it physically in PL
Jorginho - done a decent job

People are now expecting Arteta and edu to improve team with CL money, after most of previous transfers have been underwhelming this season

Fell away as expected.

The lack of depth in the squad was always going to be a problem if they picked up a few injuries.

I don't think they'll get a better chance to win the league than they did this year.

Inexperience of squad and manager has shown up. Pathetic end to the season again after it was going so well, we can never even lose something with dignity. Big job for Edu in the summer

Mikel Arteta: Arsenal 'must heal' after painful collapse in Premier League title race

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says his side have had "an incredible journey" but now "must heal" after falling away in the Premier League title race.

The Gunners' defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday saw Manchester City confirmed as champions for the third straight season, while Arteta and his players are left wondering what might have been.

After a flying start to the season, Arsenal were eight points clear at the top of the table after 18 games and held the same lead over City at the start of April, albeit having played a game more.

However, a run of just two wins in their last eight games has allowed Pep Guardiola's team to overhaul them and clinch the title with three games to spare.

"I am incapable of thinking about it right now. We have to congratulate City," Arteta told BBC Match of the Day.

"It has been an incredible journey for us over 10 months competing with City, being ahead of them for so long.

"We have learned huge lessons. We have transformed a lot at this club. We have made huge steps, but the icing on the cake is to win a championship and we fell short."

Arsenal led the way for 248 days of the 2022-23 season, the most without finishing first in English top-flight history.

After such a dramatic drop-off, Arteta is now searching for a way to galvanise his squad for the last game of the season and beyond.

"This is football. It is a very sad day, we have been working for 11 months with that aim and have been on top for so many days," he told Sky Sports. "We have competed but we didn't have enough.

"Now we must heal. It is very painful. I have to find a way to lift the players and we have a tough week ahead of us."

Arteta is incapable of galvanising the team when it's in a rut, I've given plenty examples of that last season and this season.

Just because someone put the cones out and gave out the bibs in training at man city, doesn't make you a decent manager.

Arsenal won't finish in top 2 next season, nor will they win a major trophy next season.

Do you have faith in Edu to do his job? Something he's been pretty mediocre at so far?

So come the summer now Arsenal are going to need a new LB, RB, CB, 2 CM and a striker.

The treatment of players like Tierney, ESR has been nothing but shameful.

Every game a different sub and no consistency in game plan or in game management. Yet another so called "youth project" as club likes to dress it up will go to waste.

6 players in a single window - you'd think that will be extremely difficult for Arsenal to pull off.

Most are not negotiable either. Perhaps not getting a striker could be forgiven but Jesus's weaknesses are well known by now, as well as the impact of going another season without a rotation option for Saka.

If Tierney and ESR are indeed going to be shown the door then Arsenal cannot go into a CL year without 3 more defenders and 2 midfielders. It's going to be a very active summer.

Arsenal want Ilkay Gundogan to be one of three marquee midfield signings this summer

Arsenal are readying moves for three players to revamp their midfield in the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta has been given license to spend when the market opens and midfield has been prioritised.

With Thomas Partey’s fitness problems, Granit Xhaka’s impending departure and Jorginho entering the final year of his contract, Arsenal are desperate for reinforcements.

And according to The Athletic, the Gunners are plotting an ambitious triple swoop for Ilkay Gundogan, Declan Rice and Mason Mount.

Gundogan captained Manchester City to the Premier League title this season but his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

It remains to be seen whether the German will stay at the Etihad but Arteta is personally driving the club’s push to sign him on a free transfer.

The Arsenal boss knows Gundogan well from his time at City as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager.

And he has found success with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus, two players that arrived from City.

Keep doing what we do, pick up the left overs from Big clubs once they have had the best of them.

We can never sign these top players when they are the most in demand players in the world

Bayer Leverkusen, set to complete the deal soon for €15m and 4-year contract to Xhaka. Matter of final details.

Arsenal should try to sign João Cancelo.

He's a quality full back who can play left back or right back.

He'd be an ideal signing.

Bukayo Saka has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal.

Sky Sports News understands the winger's new contract is a four-year deal until the summer of 2027.

https://www.skysports.com/football/...ith-mikel-artetas-gunners-amid-stellar-season

Buyako Saka has signed a new deal to stay at Arsenal until 2027, saying the club "is the right place to make the next step".

The England forward has scored 14 goals for the Gunners this season, contributing 11 assists.

Just 21 years old, he has already made 178 appearances for the club and has featured in all Arsenal's Premier League games over the past two campaigns.

"I'm just really happy," said Saka.

"There's been a lot of talking and it's been a while, but I'm here now. I think this is the right club, the right place to make the next step. It's a beautiful club - look where we are.

"For me, it's about achieving my personal ambitions - how much I push myself and demand from myself each game, week in, week out. Then I have all the right people around me in terms of family, and when I come to the training ground, my team-mates, the coaching staff.

"I think I have everything I need to become the best player I can be, and that's why I'm happy to stay here and be here for the future, because I really believe that we can achieve big things."

Saka's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Second-placed Arsenal host Wolves in their final game of the season on Sunday, having missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

Next season, the Gunners will play Champions League football after a six-year absence.

"I have seen a lot of change. I've seen this team and the club grow, and one thing that everyone around us can be excited about is that we are going in the right direction," added Saka.

"Time is on our side. You can look at our team and a lot of the players are young. We're hungry, and a lot of us haven't won trophies at Arsenal so we want to achieve big things. If you watch the way we all speak, we want to win and we want to win here."

Manager Mikel Arteta said: "It's great for the club that Bukayo has extended his contract. Retaining our best young talents is key to our continued progress and Bukayo represents such an important part of our squad now and for the future.

"As well as being a fantastic talent, Bukayo is a special person - he's loved by us all."

Arsenal have paid 300K as other clubs were sniffing around, its a lot of money to pay someone who hasn't reached that pay level yet. Its sort of money players like salah are on.

Saka will get better though and be worth those wages eventually. But Arteta needs to learn when to rest him etc.. can't keep picking him when he's have a bad patch, while others are dropped.

Good thing is saka is humble so I can see him striving to get better and better.

A final word from Mikel Arteta on team news: "The issues this week are the same as the last few weeks as you noticed, some are unable to play. Reiss Nelson has a little issue. Bukayo Saka, Leo [Trossard] has an issue that has been going on for a few weeks. Oleksandr Zinchenko is still out, William Saliba is still out, Takehiro Tomiyasu is still out. The rest is all good."

On Saliba's recovery from injury: "It is probably too early to say. The injury is evolving in the right way, over the last few weeks. So we are much more positive than the previous two months.

"We wanted to protect him. We want to give him the best possible chance to have a great pre-season."

'We have to nail' transfer window - Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on his plan for the summer transfer window: "We have to nail everything we do. Seek for excellence in everything we touch and participate. We are looking for people who can have a big impact at the club.

"Competition will be even harder next season. This season was the hardest in my 22 years.

"In order to do that, we have a promising plan to reflect, take a step back, make sure this is the right one, go again with more determination and hunger in our tummies to go again."

On the future of Granit Xhaka: "I can’t talk and won’t talk about any future of any players. We have to wrap the season up, do what we have to do then plan for next season."

More from Mikel Arteta on how Arsenal will approach the final game of the season, now that their Premier League title challenge is over: "Now is about finishing the season in style, provide a great performance and victory in front of our people to show our gratitude.

"We have received a lot of incredible energy, which they’ve given us throughout the season.

"Now is the time to start to build for next season. We have to wrap up [this season] in the best possible way.

"It has been some journey, full of emotions. Looking at it with perspective, there have been a lot of things, not only on the field, that have happened which deserve a lot of credit for a lot of people."

What a team Arsenal is when nothing's on the line :inti

Arsenal were top for more than 90% of the season. As soon as City started a run, they fell apart.

Still a good 2nd finish, it could be while before they get anywhere near this again.

What a team Arsenal is when nothing's on the line :inti

Flat track and no pressure bullies, sadly the club has no accountability. So weak mentality will remain.

Edu coming out saying In one interview the club use to celebrate 4th and 3rd place finishes and now club is disappointed with 2nd.

Then in another interview says top 4 was target 🤦*♂️ contradictory nonsense.

When losers like this lower clubs standards its no wonder the team is bottle jobs.

Bottle job FC win 5-0, turn up when no pressure.

Small clubs like Brentford beating man city for fun. Yet supposedly Arsenal can't compete against man city as they are to good 🤦*♂️

Just shows have a manager with good tactics and you can beat City.

Arsenal recorded a thumping win over Wolves to end a fine Premier League season with a flourish at Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta's side, who were already assured of second place, ended the campaign on 84 points - the Gunners' highest points tally since the 'Invincibles' team took the title with 90 in 2003-04.

Their unexpected and exciting title challenge may have collapsed in recent weeks, but the hosts looked back to their best and were helped by passive opponents.

Granit Xhaka, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Bundesliga, set them on their way when he nodded in Gabriel Jesus' early cross from the right.

The Switzerland midfielder, who posted a 'Thanks You Gunners' message on Instagram prior to kick-off, stroked in a second from close range to bring up Arsenal's 100th goal of the campaign in all competitions after Wolves defender Max Kilman inadvertently deflected the ball into his path.

With Wolves struggling to contain their fluent opponents, Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard combined down the right to present the ball to Bukayo Saka, who curled in a superb third.

Arsenal showed few signs of letting up after the break, with Jesus heading in their fourth at the back post from Trossard's pinpoint cross.

It proved a disappointing day for Wolves, who finish in 13th.

With boss Julen Lopetegui's future at the club in doubt, the former Spain and Real Madrid boss spent most of his afternoon looking on grimly from the stands as he served a one-game touchline ban.

They showed little of the organisation and discipline that Lopetegui had instilled in them to guide them to safety after being appointed when they were bottom of the table in November.

And their afternoon got even worse when goalkeeper Jose Sa fumbled Jakub Kiwior's instinctive effort into his own net in the closing stages to gift Arsenal a fifth goal.

Bottle job FC win 5-0, turn up when no pressure.

Small clubs like Brentford beating man city for fun. Yet supposedly Arsenal can't compete against man city as they are to good 🤦*♂️

Just shows have a manager with good tactics and you can beat City.

If Arsenal play City without Haaland, De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo, Grealish, Stones etc., they would win too.

Yes Brentford did the double over City this season but these things happen in football.

Arsenal beat Newcastle away, Newcastle smashed Brighton at home and Brighton smashed Arsenal at the Emirates. I could go on and on.

Arsenal should have beaten or at least taken a point off City at home. City couldn’t get the ball and Pep recorded his lowest possession and lowest number of successful passes in a game as City manager, but Arsenal couldn’t capitalize.

With all said and done, this season has been a major leap forward. Arsenal went from fighting for the top four to challenging for the league. No one expected Arsenal to finish second or fight for the title this season. All credit goes to Arteta for rebuilding the team and reviving Arsenal as a major force.

Now it is time forget the disappointing end to the season, do proper business in the summer and do better next season.

Need new manager and DOF, they are ones who breed the loser mentality at the club

They need new fans. Those who cannot appreciate the progress Arsenal have made this season from top 4 contenders to title contenders do not deserve to support this club.

Arsenal have lost 12 PL games in a row vs City, so the examples you gave about this happens in football are meaningless.

The record is the cricketing equivalent of Pakistan getting hammered in Australia every tour.

Zero wins, zero draws and all your clinging to is that Arsenal had more possession at the Emirates, is their a trophy parade for that at end of season?

I told you start of season Arsenal had a mental block vs City, and you rolled out the excuses that this was a new team, new mentality etc.. end results City gave Arsenal a lesson in both games tactically. Arteta learnt nothing off Pep apart from putting cones out and handing out bibs.

How many other teams in PL do you think have lost their last 12 PL games vs City?

The fact you have a new excise every time we lose to City, shows you have same mental block as well.

My point was a simple one Brentford tactically found a way in both games to cope with Man city. Arteta did a saqlain and just prayed for the best, such coaches always get exposed eventually
