Arsenal FC | 2022/23 Season

Of course it was deflected! Create all these chances, then shoot ourselves in the foot. So tiring.

Punished on all 3 goals for being naive.

6th home defeat in row vs City, 12th defeat in row vs City.

Like I said a mental block.
 
City showed their class in the second half.

Plenty of good things (and not so good) from us.

Winning the league was a dream, let's get into top 4 and then enjoy watching our team evolve.

We all know what's missing and hopefully these will be addressed in the summer.
Meanwhile, season still long way to go and we're only second on goal difference so who knows what can happen...

None of them besides Saka looks assertive. It's all very hesitant and indecisive on and off the ball.

We're playing so many loose passes and struggling defensively. We look like a shadow of what were until the halfway mark in this season.

As Kevin de Bruyne made his way around the ground after being subbed, he had a fair few bottles thrown at him.

They've still got a game in hand over Man City so all isn't lost.

But there are players like Martinelli who aren't playing as well as they were earlier in the season who probably need a rest.
 
So frustrating, a lot of promising attacking play neutralised by the Arsenal trademark shooting ourselves in the foot. Long way to go but title looking bleak. Onto Villa! COYG

The main takeaway from this is we simply don't have the bench strength to be able to rotate and cover for absences like City can.

Even if our form does pick up, there's no way we're getting any points at City, Liverpool and Newcastle in Spring.

I blame Edu and co for not picking up a CF and a decent DM in January. He comes across as far too laid back to be able to get the acquisitions over the line in a short space of time.

Leave everything, why are they still passing the ball among themselves in their half for a long time in the name of build up when 1-3 down, in the 90th min? What are they hoping to achieve?
 
Liverpool, Spurs, Utd all won against city at their homes. Newcastle drew. Chelsea only lost 1-0. Why cant Arsenal control themselves while playing city !!

poor recruitment in summer and January in regards to getting a 2nd CF and midfielder is spot on. The fact other then Trossard we had zero attacking bench options is all on Edu.

Won't be shocked if united catch Arsenal now.

Arsenal are serial bottlers and have been for the past decade.

In the 2013/14 season, Arsenal were top in January but they finished fourth.

In the 2015-16 season, Arsenal were again top in January, but they lost out on the title to Leicester lol. And the funny thing is that Arsenal fans take the mickey out of Tottenham for finishing third in a two horse race, because Arsenal weren’t apparently in the title race that season despite being top in January. :)))

In the 2018-19 season, Arsenal bottled the top four towards the end of the season, and then when they had a second opportunity to make the champions league by winning the Europa League, they got destroyed 4-1 by Chelsea in the final. :misbah

And we all remember how they bottled the top four last season.

Arsenal need to look over their shoulder. Because they are going to crumble now and Man United are right behind them. I reckon we will finish about Arsenal in second place, while Arsenal will get dragged in a top four race.

Told you my post yesterday that Arsenal would get exposed for not been clinical enough. I also said about the mental block, the fact team shot itself in foot shows exactly what I meant. At tough stages of game this team showed mentally they don't have it against City.
 
As much as it sickens me to see City in the running again, nothing is quiet like a meltdown from Arsenal fans :))

Proved 100% right on not being clinical enough. I still don't entertain this mental block stuff, Tomiyasu didn't give the ball away because he was thinking about losses of years gone by involving different players, managers etc.

These players are not used to the occasion and pressure of a top of the table clash thus they bottled it, but Man City are seasoned and did not. Zinchenko is the only player in the team that has ever competed at this level, but all players started somewhere. Hopefully with this experience they will be more prepared next time to not chuck a game for the taking with naive stupidity, as I don't think this is a one-off season.

Next focus has to be stopping the slump at Villa, they are no pushovers.
 
The major difference between sides tonight?

- One side were more clinical in front of goal
- Pep Tactically tweaked things at 1-1 showed his experience
- Arsenal were just to niave in 2nd half, after getting away with giving a few chances away, the team continued playing stupid high risk football in their own half. Some times you have to try and settle game down and assert control. Xhaka and Zinchenko were shockingly poor in 2nd half and these guys are senior players. Zinchenko might help in midfield but as expected defensively he was shocking.
- Apart from Trossard - no trusted attack options on bench.

It's just last January all over from last season. team does well, keys players dip in form and their is nothing on bench to rotate the team to pick up fortune in results, That's on Edu and him failing to get 1st choice targets and we end up with mediocre squad players.
 
All over for Arsenal I am afraid. Now Pep will use his experience to
control it. Arteta just doesn’t possess same class and experience but a good learning curve for him.
 
Big win for City today. It was the master teaching his former student how to play an important match. With a game in hand there is no need for Gooner's to feel disheartened so early. Man City were the better team throughout the match with Haaland again coming to the party when needed.

Arsenal rightfully won a penalty where as City too were rejected one as well. Ultimately, Arsenal here have no reason to complain this time round. This must upset Arteta that he can't play the victim of any bad decisions here:kohli

How much of a factor do you think fatigue is in Arsenal's team? Ever since we played Everton we've lacked that sharpness and intensity.
 
For the second season running squad depth issue derailing the season big time. Inexcusable. Every man and his dog knew this at the start of summer.

We wouldn't have been in this position if the right decision was taken in the previous game.
 
So the club played weekend teams in league Cup and FA Cup to focus on league position and just like last season it's backfired. I said All summer and during season our squad depth is poor. We all knew Partey wouldn't stay fit all season. Going into season with Eddie as only back up striker again stupid.

In depth in midfield, xhaka has been in quite a few games now and as a number 8 offers no creativity, his mess up of not passing to Martinelli was shocking.

Can some one explain how Arsenal captain at HT in biggest game of season is messing around telling jokes and laughing, rather than focusing on game? 3rd game in a row as well went missing. Do you think Vieira or Adams would have been telling jokes just before 2nd half kick off, zero focus on task at hand.

Look at yesterday's bench, looks similar to last season in regards to attacking options. Last season after Jan we had eddie and Pepe. Now we have Trossard and Nelson. 1 good option and rest are players Arteta clearly doesn't trust.

Arteta makes same predictable subs. Martinelli for Trossard, then usually defenders replacing defenders etc..

Summer TW will be same Edu will waste time low balling offers for players and Arsenal will get 2nd or 3rd choices scraps.

Clubs weak mentality has caused current collapse.

Finally certain comedy poster has shown their true colours is now hiding. Telling other fans they are clueless and now they are eating humble pie and wiping dozen eggs slapped of their face [MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION]

City is the only PL team with real squad depth. This is why they are able to fire towards end of the season whilst teams around them collapse.
 
Ever since the Everton game, there’s been too much nervous energy in this Arsenal team.
 
07/08 season repeat, Arsenal do well until start Feb. Key injuries, bad month and then bottled two title deciding games (in 07/08 was vs Chelsea / united) this time round it will be two games vs City.

I thought the club had got over not not winning games in clusters. 3 games without a win, that happened numerous times last season as well.
 
Looks like Partey will be out for a whole. Zinchenko and Eddie need to dropper for Villa game also as both were useless last night. Non selection of kieren Tierney has been poor.

After a manager has been in charge for 3 years a title challenge should be seen as bare minimum. Whether we win a title is different.

Couldn't care less what the so called pundits predicted or what low standards of the owners are. This is Arsenal FC not some tinpot club.

If we bottle it from here that's on the recruitment team and their poor over recruitment in last 2 TW, failing to address key areas in squad.

Firstly, let's begin by addressing the elephant in the room and that is your uber negativity.
Its tiresome. Do you never look at the glass being half full?

Everyone and their dog knows what is missing in the team and the lack of depth.
Ranting and raving and not staying positive on match days is just depressing.

Just 12 months ago people wanted Arteta sacked now we've just gone more then half the season with only three league losses and have been playing some unbelievable football. Yes we look tired and are in poor form and the lack of depth is showing now. But the game off football, including the transfer market, is not played on the computer. You can't simply buy a player in January by throwing money on it. If this was the case then even bug spenders like Chelsea would have bought a striker in January.

So rather then being so negative, lets get in to top 4 (or even win the league) and then see what the
summer brings. CL football is a must for us if we are to attract the top players.

Of course, if we went this season like the last then we can all should 'Arteta Out', because like you say its been three seasons. But any fan will agree that our whole system of playing has changed and we've been one of in not the best team in the league so far.

This is the time for calm and for getting behind your team and not getting the knives out at the first hurdle.

I don't disagree with this. I think the emotions from Amjad stem from the fact that it's been 19 years without a PL or CL that hurts. We've been starved for too long.

Arteta has done superbly this season but I do think Edu is a problem with his laid back attitude. He can't get key transfers over the line in a short space of time.

Well as one of the oldies here, we one league title in the 80's and that was after twenty years.

I accept that the game has changed since and there is so much more money involved, other teams spend bigger and we have been losing out on the top players or the players that we recruited with big money turned out to be duds or fell off a cliff after one or two seasons.

But with what is happening at the club, with a young coach and the style of football that we're playing I'm prepare to give the current management at least one more season, Lets see who they recruit over the summer and how we progress.

Let's not forget that we're in competition with one of the best ever squads in recent history. Even Liverpool, with Klopp at the helm, could only win the league once since the start of the premier league so we have some way to go and atleast with Arteta and the young players we have the potential of reaching the very top.


All we should do as fans is to get behind them
 
The Football Association has launched an investigation after Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne had objects thrown at him during their 3-1 win at Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

The midfielder was targeted while he was walking around the pitch after being substituted late on.

Referee Anthony Taylor is believed to have mentioned it in his match report.

Arsenal are studying CCTV footage and say they will impose strict sanctions if those responsible can be identified.

"This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," added a Gunners spokesperson.

De Bruyne scored and set up a goal as City took over top spot in the Premier League from the Gunners.

The Belgium international posted a picture on social media of himself at Emirates Stadium with the caption 'beer anyone?'.

Another picture posted by De Bruyne, with a cup in the air near him, had the caption 'thanks!'.

Edu is 100% the problem when it comes to current state of squad and failing to address issues.

Every TW there have been mediocre signings which have failed to address gaps in the squad, lakonga, Tavares and Vieira being the latest. Arsenal go after their primary targets, Edu goes in with low ball offers and aggreivates the selling club and they then just bump the price up. We missed out on Joao felix, mudryk, raphina, caciedo, vlahovic all because of Edus incompetence. Last 3 TW he's had to address the midfield and striker positions and he's failed to do that adequately.

With squad Arteta has he's over-achieving with it as everyone can see their is zero squad depth. People can go on about how great this City side is. Honestly answer the question have Arsenal given themselves best chance to compete with overall squad they have.

The fact that Vieira hardly gets Brought on shows Arteta doesn't trust the guy,same happened with lakonga and tavares. Then we have players like marquinhos signed who ain't even ready for 1st team, buy signed so we can keep a good relationship with a Brazilian team. Have we improved 1st 11 yes, have we improved anything else no and Edus had plenty of time to do so.

In summer we are going to need 1 or 2 midfielders and they are going to cost big money, you think Edu is to be trusted getting an 80M plus deal done for a rice or a Bellingham?

What anoys me even more now is fans going oh well "top 4" was target at start of season so don't matter if we don't win league. "The project" says we should be winning league in 5th season. Pathetic brainwashed backwards mentality.

So with all that it's not going to get any easier. Scraps for top 4 and top 6 will be tougher, as will scrapping for signing midfielders in summer. What did Arsenal do they messed around in TW again not addressing areas of the TW. Yes this is not a computer game but at somepoint Arsenal's failures need to have someone been made accountable.

How does the club avoid that it sets pathetic low targets which fans accept.
 
I thought it was a brutally effective performance from Manchester City to dispatch Arsenal. The three goals were all ruthless and superb.

City haven’t been in the strongest of form themselves since the turn of the year, but they look like they could use the momentum from this key result to go on a run now.

Still a long way to go, so I’m not calling anything, but only one side looked like the Premier League champions last night.

Man city are the PL champs so thats why they looked like champs :)) - they flexed their muscles when it needed to be, big game players turned, manager was smart enough to tactically tweak tactics and be effective, also in game management was better.

Just like last seasons game Arsenal imploded in 2nd half, self inflicted Mistakes. Spurs regularly beat Man city because they understand you have to sometimes change how you play and be street smart against the best, Arsenal were just plain niave last night.

I feel the same. I reckon if we miss out on PL this season, Man U will have more chance of securing the title than Arsenal. They have decent squad depth.

As you said, they just need a CF and couple of other players to make them title challengers.
 
Arsenal have entered the race for Manchester United and Chelsea transfer target Denzel Dumfries, according to reports.

The 26-year-old has made regular appearances for the Italian outfit since he signed in 2021 and impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup.
 
Looking forward to the Villa match on Saturday with Unai Emery hoping to get one over his former team. This added element will make it another tough math for the gunners.

I can see united going and getting a top striker and midfielder. Everyone else will improve as well, even Newcastle.

It seems every transfer window Arsenal get 1 good player and then mediocre players or nor ready players and that's going to not help us stay at a sustained high quality level.

Look, last year Arsenal bottled top 4, but I maintained over and over again that this was the youngest team in the league, barely any of the players had fought under this pressure, they will improve, their mentality will be better after having gone through this experience and the potential for how good we can be was there for all who opened their eyes. Not a successful season, but a clear trajectory. I don't tout this as a genius prediction, many many people saw it the same, which is why Arteta's still in a job.

People said others just had a one-off bad season, the competition will be more fierce next time, others will improve, Arsenal missed a golden opportunity and will fall behind again.

Lo and behold, Arsenal are the ones who have improved the most! Far more than anyone thought. The others fell behind us. Is anyone worrying about making CL anymore?

Arteta has assembled this young squad and coached them up to the level that we are now going toe to toe with the most dominant side in PL history, who have won 4 of the last 5 titles. Yes, we may bottle the title this season, no one views that as a big success, but we will improve after this experience, just as we improved after last year's experience. We went to the scene of last season's death and dispatched the **** 2-0, who had actually spent more than us in the summer after finishing above us.

Let others throw obscene money around, Chelsea and United have been doing it for many many years, look where they are, look where we are. United finally have a good coach but they still spend 86 mil on Antony. Our TWs might be lesser in quantity but have been far more effective. Jesus, Zinchenko, Ramsdale, White, Odegaard have transformed us. Since Arteta's come in, we've spent a bit more than Liverpool, the same as Spurs, far far less than Chelsea, City, United. Yet we were the ones on top, not them.

No reason why we won't improve again in the summer, and nothing stopping Arteta coaching our young guns up another level. This is not a fluke. People didn't see the trajectory last season, fine, it is blindingly obvious this time around.

Gabriel was poor at start of season but then massively improved up until Wednesday game. Saliva has been poor since World cup. Both players have become sloppy and have started to feel need to overgrapple when trying to get the ball back. As a unit we have been poor since re-start, even on set pieces there is mass panic. Until we improve we will keep concedeeding and dropping points.

A 35-year-old man has admitted assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the north London derby.

Ramsdale, 24, was kicked in the back shortly after the Gunners beat Tottenham 2-0 in a Premier League match on 15 January 15.

Joseph Watts pleaded guilty at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court to assault by beating, going on to an area adjacent to the playing area and throwing a missile on to a football playing area.

He also threw four coins towards the pitch. Watts, of Dalston in Hackney, east London, appeared in person to confirm his name, age and address before entering the pleas.

On Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Jesus: "Emile will be training today so if he is fine, he will be in the squad. Gaby [Jesus] is still not there."
 
All i can say is that, after 25 years of following Arsenal i can safely say that they are now in a fight for second place.

35 years of following Arsenal for me and I and agree with you.

If we finish 2nd and Trophy less and Man united or Newcastle win a Trophy and they finish Top 4, either of those sides can be seen to have had a better season then Arsenal.

Similar to you. I've been following Arsenal for 23 years and yes we're fighting for second spot. It would take a miracle from Arsenal and an unexpected City choke for us to win it this year.
 
On paper fixture wise we have such a tough April (away to Liverpool, West ham, city and Newcastle)

We also play City, Chelsea and Newcastle in space of a week.

So Arsenal would have needed a decent points buffer going into that month.

At moment the performances are getting worse, and the so called "game in hand might end up being to close gap on city.

We need to beat villa and Leicester now. But more worried about united catching us now.

I thought out of the midfield 3 he was best of the 3 by some distance, he offered himself all the time to the 2 CBs to start the attacks from the back, he also looked to play the ball forward and through the lines.

If partey is fit then xhaka should be one dropped, yes he was good at start of season, but in his advanced role he needs to offer more going forward which since the world cup he hasn't, both him and Zinchenko are essentially doing same job with how arteta is using zinchenko.

Oddegard has improved a lot since last season, more goals and assists, but still seems to dissappear in games which he has done in last 3 games, in a big game and captain you shouldn't be stood out cracking jokes with opposition at HT, sorry but it shows poor focus and mentality, the fact he disappeared in 2nd half angered me even more.

Arsenal need to sign 2 midfielders in summer, an upgrade on xhaka and also another enforcer (caicedo / onana type player). I seen somewhere on line the number of big top 6 games Partey has missed since he's joined its pretty pathetic.

If Arsenal neglect midfield again in summer, they will fall behind other teams. Edu can't afford another shambles TW not getting 1st choice targets. Vieira isn't good enough to stand in for oddegard, id rather see ESR when fully fit tried in an 8 position.

Biggest worry is when Partey under performer's or doesn't play the midfield is physically weak and very little mobility at winning ball back.
 
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has urged the Premier League to protect clubs against "very difficult" turnarounds between games.

Arteta's side lost 3-1 to title rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday evening..

The Gunners will be back in league action only 63 hours after the defeat when they take on Aston Villa in Saturday's 12:30 GMT slot.

"There are certain rules with the Champions League," Arteta said.

"When you are playing on Wednesday night and then you cannot play [on Saturday lunchtime]. So I think that should apply to any competition."

In 2020, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp criticised broadcasters for placing a Premier League game on a Saturday lunchtime after a Champions League game on Wednesday.

The rules were changed in 2021 to prevent Champions League clubs from playing in the Premier League's early Saturday slot.

However, earlier this season, City also had a similar turnaround, hosting Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday 14 September before a 12.30 kick-off against Wolves at Molineux on the Saturday.

"Following the same principle, I think you are talking physiologically, that is very difficult to turn around on that period to get the best outcome and reduce the injury risk for players," Arteta said before Saturday's game at Villa Park.

"They put the schedule the way they did. It's a bit unusual, but it's what it is.

"It's not about being worried or not worried. We have to play. I want the players to be in the best possible mindset and physically ready to get that challenge going."

Arsenal dropped to second in the Premier League after Wednesday's defeat, but they have a game in hand over City, who lead only by goal difference.

Pep Guardiola's side take to the pitch two-and-a-half hours after Arsenal on Saturday when they play Nottingham Forest at 15:00 GMT.

Others like to be arrogant and go into hiding when there team loses, usually you see this with Liverpool fans.

But looks like a certain Arsenal fan is the same, all talk and bravado and then runs and hides when he gets egg on his face.

Exactly, we need to address out midfield and another striker. Not another defender in squad. Its no wonder our squad is lacking depth in all areas

The worse thing is- I don't think it's over for arsenal.
City will get blindsided by the CL and you still have a game in hand. Tomorrow is important though.
Let's hope Emery gives us united fans a Good Ebening &#55357;&#56860;
