Great win yesterday..

Should have scored another 3 goals but for their keeper who made some fine saves..

Hope we take this intensity to Wembley and bag our first trophy in 6 years...

Regarding Arteta, I have supported him since day one because we could see what he was trying to do, I.e making us solid; getting rid of players that were not prepared to track back and defend as a team etc etc

However, a few Arteta fans here, including myself, had said that this was the season that was going to define his last few years as manager and whether he should remain as manager moving forward. So far, he's succeeding on that score.

COYG
Exactly - I was clear at the beginning of the season that if he does not win either UCL or PL then it might be time to move on cos he'd obviously taken us as far as he could.

I also said we would win the League after the Eze signing and have stuck by it. I had some doubts after the Wolves game but I think that was just the disappointment of how it happened.

People need to realise that our best players are now in their Peak or approaching their peak. This is the time to win and then hopefully build on it with sustained success. If we didn't win anything this season then do you risk another season with the same guy? it would be insanity.

Anyway doesn't matter cos its gonna be a special season and Arteta and the players have a chance to build a legacy - the 1st for the emirates era.

Rival fans dont like it when Arsenal fans say they prefer the PL over the UCL. The PL is the bread and butter. Its your week in week out.

If you were to ask me which I would prefer. I would say the PL this year and then win the UCL as the reigning PL champions the following season. I mean winning both in the same season will be the dream!

But 1 CL is better than 3 PL according to experts like @ads101 🤣🤣

People Question fergies legacy because he won 2 UCL in 26 years. Yet they forget the bread and butter of any Club is the league Title.

The GOAT = 13 premier league titles
Fergie also won cup winners cup twice. Once with Aberdeen which was an amazing feat, also won 2 league titles at Aberdeen, in a league which is dominated by two sides.

Then again you have clueless ball merchants think 1 PL in 9 years, and 5 years without a trophy as legacy for klopp and Arteta 🤦‍♂️

They also forget that Fergie was on his last legs and about to be sacked before Manu started to win everything...
It's a fine line between success and failure.
I hope Arteta wins us trophies, if he goes on to win 30% of what Fergie did then he would have done brilliantly, as long as we don't go through the same drought as Manu after he's gone :sneaky:

Hate to say it. Arsenal is not getting past Barca in teh semiis they meet.
Why? Did you watch the game or just see the score line?

They can't defend to save their life. They don't even have 1 high quality defender. They rely fully on their attack. It will be a challenge for our strong defence however to Imply as you have that they have no chance is in my opinion not accurate.

Hope you are right

Barca have a tough game next round vs Atheltico Madrid, who already beat them in the Copa del Ray semi final (4-0, 0-3) 4-3.

So that game won't be easy for Barca, no guarantee on a semi final place in CL
I have nightmares from the 90's of running into even average spanish teams and bottling it.

Arsenal recent record vs Spanish teams is good. But if we get to semi finals, we will see if the tempremant changes in a key big game.

One thing we can't afford is to have key players suspended or missing in any knockout Cup games for remainder of season. Espcially in midfield

We saw last season inter Milan expose Barca weak defence in full back areas and set pieces. So yeah they can be got at on counter attack.

But yeah going forward they can take anyone part.

Understandable to be honest.

I remember the cup winners Cup final we lost in the 90s to Zaragoza when we were holders. I don't recall any other games against Spanish teams back then. But ye this was a shock defeat at the time.

Maybe a tie against Barca late 90s

You'll beat Barca, no doubts about that

We matched them for 75% of the tie, arguably edged them and at that stage they were lucky to have Yamal & Lopez play the 2nd leg, we concede a stupid penalty because Trippier's legs have gone (arguably should have had a penalty ourselves moments earlier) and then fell apart after that

Too many defensive mistakes and individuals who simply don't belong at this level

You don't have that concern, you'll not be as open as we were and you'll be able to exploit their high line. Plus you'll be at home in the 2nd leg, a draw or even a 1 goal loss away in the 1st leg will more than do the trick

You get to the final for me, where I think it will then be PSG/Bayern and that would be tough to call

Ye I thought Trippier was lucky to stay on the pitch tbh. I think he needs to call it a day as experience only gets you so far at a high level.

What did you make of Dan Burn. I thought positionally he was pretty poor but kept having a go at everyone else.
I thought you put up a good fight considering the amount of games you have played and without your best player.

Inshallah we make it through. My concern is if we do get to the Semi Final/Final of the UCL and also make it past Southampton in the cup to the Semi's then the fixture congestion is intense! We do have a big squad but even then at that point of the season it can get tough especially since there will probably be a midweek PL game if we get through to the FA Cup Semi!

But this is what we want. We want to be in everything and play as much games as possible as that normally means you win something along the way.

Yeah zaragoza still to this day is the most upsetting European defeat. Espcially how we lost that game as well

That lob over Seamen from the halfway line will always be etched in my mind.

But that aside, we've always done pretty well against the Spanish sides.
Even against the great Barca sides, we were unlucky in the CL final; gong down early to 10 men when Lehman was sent off but still scoring the first goal and almost holding out for a win.

I remember Fabregas breaking his foot when scoring at home and then in the second leg Van Persie being sent off when we were dominating; that too for kicking the ball after the whistle.

Henry hat trick against Real Madrid and of course our wins both home and away in last years knock out stages.
