Aston Villa FC | 2023/24 Season

🤣 That’s what the CL means, the Olympics of football. I like to see passion in footy coaches like Jose, Arteta shows about as much emotion as Shaheen Shah Afridi:View attachment 143868
If you think Arteta doesn’t show passion, that means that you haven’t watched Arsenal play this season and you haven’t seen his antics and behavior on the sidelines.

Arteta is always in trouble with the officials because he cannot control his emotions and passion on the sidelines, but what do current generation of Villa fans know anything about top managers?

Your best manager of the last two decades is someone who got kicked on his backside by Arsenal for not being good enough.

But that manager returned to go in on your GOAT no lube 🙈

I don’t know man his body language tends to be weak

Emery signs new five-year Aston Villa contract

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has signed a new five-year contract with the club after taking them into next season's Champions League.

The 52-year-old Spaniard has turned Villa around since arriving from Villarreal in October 2022 with the club sitting 17th in the Premier League.

He led them to seventh place in his first season in charge and fourth this campaign.

"I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club," said Emery, whose existing deal still had another three years to run.

"There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home.

"We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams."

Former Sevilla and Arsenal boss Emery also took Villa, the 1982 European Cup champions, to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League this season in their first European campaign for 13 years.

Chairman Nassef Sawiris said: "We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core and we are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029.

"As we move into our historic, 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm."

He deserved this long term contract after securing a Champions League.

Aston Villa have expressed an interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

The 24-year-old could face a summer of uncertainty as he enters the last year of his contract at Stamford Bridge - with no progress made in renewing his deal.

I can understand Emery signing a new long-term deal at Villa because he clearly doesn’t have what it takes to take on a big job, but what are the expectations and objectives for next season?

Villa will be the whipping boys of UCL next season and if one of United, Chelsea, Spurs or Newcastle get their act together, Villa will also drop out of the top 4.

Will Villa fans be unhappy and will Emery be in trouble if Villa crash out in the UCL group stage and finish outside the top 6?

Surely your trolling on this one . Villa have a prestigious history, and no doubt one of the biggest clubs in English football. Emery deserves full credit for reigniting a sleeping Giant

BREAKING: Six Premier League clubs face having to sell players before the end of June to comply with profit and sustainability rules 🚨

Sky Sports News understands Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City are the clubs under pressure 👇

Looks like Villa making CL may have kept them from bring in serious trouble, they are reportedly still making a 3 year loss in PSR so will have to sell players

Villa is a historic club, it has no relevance and value in contemporary football. They are just a juiced up version of Nottingham Forest.

Claiming that Emery has reignited a sleeping giant is what I would call trolling.

Villa will never be a UCL club for a considerable period of time let alone become a title contender. The only thing that can save them is a billionaire takeover.

It is a pointless club from a non-Villa fan perspective and no top manager will spend his prime coaching Villa. The fact that Emery extended his contract when he is in his prime years as a coach and numerous top clubs across Europe are looking for new managers clearly indicate that he doesn’t have the chops for a big job.

PSR rules 'not good' for football - Villa co-owner

The Premier League's profit and sustainability rules "do not make sense" and are bad for football, Aston Villa's co-owner says.

Egyptian businessman Nassef Sawiris also said he was considering legal action against the rules.

Villa are expected to need to sell players this summer to comply with profit and sustainability (PSR) rules, having reported a loss of £119m in their accounts up to 31 May 2023.

That expectation comes despite the club qualifying for the Champions League after finishing fourth last season.

Villa voted against the introduction of PSR rules, which came into force in 2015-16, which permit losses of up to £105m in a three-year spell for Premier League clubs.

The club reportedly failed in a move to raise the maximum losses to £135m at the top flight's annual general meeting last week.

Sawiris told the Financial Times, external: "Some of the rules have actually resulted in cementing the status quo more than creating upward mobility and fluidity in the sport.

"The rules do not make sense and are not good for football."

Everton and Nottingham Forest were deducted points last season for PSR breaches while Manchester City also face charges, and are separately facing the Premier League in a legal battle over commercial rules.

BBC Sport understands an arbitration hearing surrounding the legality of the league’s associated party transaction (APT) rules, which determine whether sponsorship deals are financially ‘fair’, is taking place until 21 June.

"Managing a sports team has become more like being a treasurer or a bean counter rather than looking at what your team needs," Sawiris said.

"It's more about creating paper profits, not real profits. It becomes a financial game, not a sporting game."

The PSR are set to remain for at least next season, while clubs have agreed to trial an alternative financial system, which operates like a spending cap, alongside PSR in the 2024-25 season.

The Squad Cost Rules (SCR) and Top to Bottom Anchoring Rules (TBA) will operate on a "non-binding basis".

Teams will be allowed to spend no more than 85% of their total revenues on squads under the new system.

Aston Villa have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Dutch defender Ian Maatsen.

The 22-year-old will cost between £35m and £40m, depending on potential add-ons, and the move is subject to a medical as the left-back is expected to sign a six-year deal at Villa Park.

Maatsen opted for Villa due to the promise of Champions League football next season, having reached the final of the competition while on loan at Borussia Dortmund during the second half of last season.

The Blues had discussed signing Villa striker Jhon Duran as part of a swap deal but have opted to sell Maatsen in isolation.

Dortmund attempted to sign Maatsen earlier this month after a successful loan spell but were unwilling to pay the full £35m asking price.

Maatsen signed a 12-month contract extension in January but it included a release clause, which was likely to lead to his departure this summer.

He is currently with the Netherlands national team in Germany at Euro 2024, where they face France on Friday in Leipzig.

Chelsea signed Maatsen from PSV Eindhoven in 2019 and he excelled on a series of loans at Charlton, Coventry, Burnley and at Dortmund but struggled to make the grade under Mauricio Pochettino last season.

He leaves Stamford Bridge having played 16 games for the club.

Aston Villa sign Chelsea left-back Maatsen for £35m

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen for £35m.

Maatsen, 22, spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund and helped the Bundesliga club to reach the Champions League final.

The defender is with the Netherlands at Euro 2024 as they prepare for a last-16 tie against Romania on Tuesday.

He is Villa's second signing of the summer after striker Lewis Dobbin joined from Everton.

Chelsea signed Maatsen in 2019 from PSV Eindhoven and he impressed during loan spells at Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Burnley and Dortmund.

He played a major role in helping Burnley win promotion to the Premier League in 2022-23, scoring four goals in 39 appearances as he was named in the Championship Team of the Season.

Maatsen started the last campaign at Chelsea but struggled for regular minutes under Mauricio Pochettino, although he appeared in 15 games across all competitions.

A six-month loan move to Dortmund was agreed in January after he penned a one-year contract extension that ran until June 2026 which included a release clause that was expected to lead to his departure this summer.

During his time in Germany, Maatsen featured 23 times and scored three goals as Dortmund finished fifth in the Bundesliga and lost 2-0 against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

He leaves Stamford Bridge after making 16 appearances for the west London club.
