What's new

Australia (103/2) end Day 3 with a lead of 197 runs in the 3rd Test versus India

Now this is a telling lead. What Aussies need now is to play aggressively and avoid being all out before 150. This track will get uneven, also Aussies will use the heavy roller tomorrow morning - cracks will open up. Max India can chase here is probably 170, may be 200. This guy Pat Cummins is a fantastic Test bowler.

And a gun fielder, most of the Aussie bowlers are very good fielders and the thing is most of them are super fit and considering they are over 6'4 that makes it even more awesome.

We almost lost the match. All the hard work of bowlers are getting wasted because of batsman.

Really sad that we are not scoring runs.

Disastrous test this one.

True about our 1st innings. 3 runouts is just ridiculous when we've been crawling at snail's pace throughout. Then Jadeja's tactics with Saini. Began to get old vibes when India is overseas where a foldingup and giving up seems around the corner.

But our bowling and field plans were pretty good to keep their total down. Day 1 pitch had nothing in it for us and we still managed.

Morethan runouts that dead bat batting hurts india alot.

Next match

Drop Vihari, open with Shaw/Mayank, Gill at 3
Drop Pant, bring Saha in
Drop Saini, pick Nattu

:inti

True, I was trying my best to control but match situation did not help either.

That guy is sad. When India wins he makes fraud congratulatory threads to ease the burn.

Doesn't even have the guts to admit his actual team openly :yk

This guy Pukovski is a compulsive hooker, but not that good in it; at least not yet.

Pujaras style of batting helps only if he goes on to make a big score kinda like Rohit Sharma in odis.

Indians will be chasing 400 plus and get bowled out for 180 since they will only have 8 players for the chase.

Oddd ball is keeping low. Hard pitch yes but the bounce is not too steep plus its slow so can be managed. They have the greatest player of hook n pull after Ricky ponting in Rohit.Best batsmen in the world should be able to score big in these conditions

You get inconsistent bounce, but that is different to slow. You don't see players dismissed regularly by bouncers & struck so often on the body on a slow pitch.

Starc and Cummins were hitting the wicket hard and making life hell for Indians but Indian bowlers gingerly hitting the wicket

Yeah one wicket gone then you realise a Goliath need Steve Smith will soon be at the crease.. yikes

The wicket looks flatter whenever the Indians Bowl....

The issue is that India batted negatively. That partnership between Pujar and Rahane let Aus bowlers settle in nicely and they let Aus bowlers dictate to them.

This whole problem is due to the pathetic batting of Rahane and Pujara. They occupied the crease for a long time. But nothing to show for that effort. Not to forget Vihari who is just a walking wicket. I don’t know what his role in the team is.

True.
Rahane can play shots dunno why he opts to bat like a scared kitten more often than not

India needs to go all out here and get wickets

We don’t have the bowling to do that. This is a 2nd or 3rd string Indian attack. Saini is useless. Bumrah and Ashwin are the only real threats. The absence of Ishant, Shami and Jaddu is too much to fill for India.

This test match appears similar to previous South Africa Test Series! We lost matches there due to RR shootouts! India batted almost same overs as Australia but ended up scoring nearly 100 runs less! I think this is what Kohli/Shastri meant with Pujara's approach! Pujara is not even 10% of Dravid! Dravid would mean it if he takes up that responsibility to anchor an innings! He invariably ends up scoring 100+ and tire the bowling attack completely (What he really lacked was a bowling attack such as this to support him! If so he would have won lot more test matches overseas for his country! Further... he, Laxman, Sehwag, were all great slip catchers which would have only helped the bowlers further...!)

The first 2 matches are similar to last England tour, where it is about bowling shootouts (picking up wickets quickly). India in all these series are lacking a good batting unit (especially openers!) It looks like Gill should have been groomed 2 years back itself!

I think these aussies are deliberately targetting Saini.
Starting from his first over in test cricket, part of their strategy i think

India would have probably won this test match also if Kohli was playing!

Pujara's batting was fine in Adelaide in the pink ball test. But in this test, it was wrong move because Gill and Rohit already blunted the new bowl and with 96-2, your middle order should have made it count and post 350 on board.

Also the fact that the conditions in this match are much more suited to batting

There won’t be too many substitutes left on the bench for India at this moment.
