Was gonna say Khurram Shehzad ! That was Perth too.I have seen Smith get out like this a few times now. In the India series Bumrah got him out the exact same way. Before that Khurram Shahzad had a near identical dismissal too.

Defensive technique is poor. Against Australia without Cummins and Hazlewood you just have to see off Starc. Others looked toothless. You have to weigh your options smartly. Luckily they were up against a batting line up that is even crappier and they had 5 seamers to work with unlike Australia who just had 1 seamer. I understand why Australia collapsed. England collapse is inexcusable.I think it's a case of both. When playing on a challenging pitch like this one, batsmen don't think and start playing in a reactive way. Thinking in the position both teams were in when these two were batting (both came in at 5 down) my guess is they were thinking we have to score runs at all costs because the others tried to spend some time at the crease and paid the price for it with their wicket.
There's no denying that. I'm just trying to make sense of the Jamie Smith and Alex Carey dismissals, and I can understand to some extent why they got out the way they did. But there is no excuse for the way that some of the top-order batsmen from both sides got out.Defensive technique is poor. The Nagin rivalry also carries just as much pressure, if not more, because of the pressure they play low-quality cricket? GeniusWe are neglecting pressure factor.
The Ashes are on another level when it comes to pressures on the players.

Agree. + poor temperamentI don't think it is just the pitch.
Modern day batters tend to have poor techniques for Test. I blame T20.![]()
Agree. + poor temperament
Batters (many of whom also play T20 leagues around the world) needlessly trying to play aggressively very early on in their innings. Sometimes milking singles and doubles and disrupting the bowler’s rhythm or just leaving the ball is as good a response as playing a big shot in tests. Hence it should be mandatory for every test batsman (and bowler) to play domestic/overseas FC cricket. Main bowlers could be given some leeway (FC workload should be managed in order to prevent player burnout)
Test cricket demands patience and discipline apart from good technique.
We are neglecting pressure factor.

Australians in Australia never feel any pressure. THey are all washed up. That's it. Mental strength won't improve their reaction timeAny Aussie or English cricketer who can't take the pressure of playing in the Ashes shouldn't even be a cricketer in the first place.
They won't fold under pressure. They will fold because they are crap. They have legend leagues players in the set up and total noobs.Nice handy lead for England.
They just need to score over 200 in their 2nd innings and Aus will fold under pressure.
If you play Test on sporting pitches , that will always be the highest spectacle in cricket. Nothing beats this .Ashes is the best of Test cricket. Every delivery feels exciting.
But they bowled them out cheaply.. Their batting is the problem.Hazelwood injury has been lucky for Poms .
But if Hazelwood was there it would have been more difficult for Poms. But they bowled them out cheaply.. Their batting is the problem.
So england can win this one ???
Boland is just as potent of a replacement for Hazelwood. It's Cummins who's irreplaceable in Aus bowling artilleryBut if Hazelwood was there it would have been more difficult for Poms.
Brook is one of the most overrated batter todayAnother one gone. Brook this time.
Pathetic stuff continues.... Is this pitch or just useless batting
Lack of footwork. Starc is a pink ball specialist. But on other pitches he is not that threatening. England folding against him suggests they have technical holes.Pathetic stuff continues.... Is this pitch or just useless batting
But lot of wickets are not due to bazballing. They are just stuck on the crease hanging the bat. Will say that England batters have been exposed badly.... Bazball has been a big downgrade for them...It will not work most of the time
BazBall is a joke , Test Cricket is not about run rate but partnerships. Will say that England batters have been exposed badly.... Bazball has been a big downgrade for them...It will not work most of the time
Root's shot was a useless shot completely out of his style considering the situation. They dried up his dab to third man. Previous ball he wanted a single that Stokes refused. Seemed to disturb Root and that wide forcing shot seems like succumbing to the pressure and frustration. So yeah, useless batting lolPathetic stuff continues.... Is this pitch or just useless batting
