Lord's is all set to host another big-ticket rivalry as Australia and New Zealand, the 2015 finalists, face off in the 37th match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 on Saturday, 29 June.

Overview

New Zealand v Australia
Lord's, London
2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Match 37
Saturday, 29 June; 13.30 local time, 12.30pm GMT

New Zealand suffered their first defeat of the tournament, when they were outclassed by a resurgent Pakistan in their previous clash by six wickets. While James Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme impressed with a 132-run partnership for the sixth wicket in tough batting conditions at Edgbaston, the opening pair of Martin Guptill and Colin Munro failed once again.

With New Zealand looking to seal off a semi-final spot sooner rather than later, it wouldn't be surprising if Kane Williamson and the team management ring in some changes in the playing XI.

Australia have once again proven why they are a team to be feared at ICC tournaments, having won six of their seven games and become the first and, so far, only team to confirm a spot in the semi finals. The opening pair of Aaron Finch and David Warner has been delivering consistently, with 996 runs between them. The bowlers, led by the ever-inspirational Mitchell Starc, haven't allowed their opponents to get away, striking at crucial junctures on a consistent basis.

The only area of mild concern for the five-time champions is the form of their middle order, as they face a strong New Zealand bowling unit, led by a shrewd captain on Saturday.

Key Players

Martin Guptill (New Zealand): The New Zealand opener hasn't been able to produce a performance of note after his stroke-filled 73* against Sri Lanka in his side's opening game. Guptill, who scored an unbeaten century in his only outing at Lord's, back in 2013, will look to find his rhythm back as the tournament enters a critical phase.

Mitchell Starc (Australia): The star left-arm pacer leads the wicket charts in this World Cup, much like he did in 2015, with 19 scalps. Starc, who registered a career-best 6/28 against New Zealand at Eden Park in the 2015 edition, and later took the crucial wicket of Brendon McCullum in the final, will once again be Aaron Finch's key weapon.

Conditions

London will be dry and sunny, with no chances of precipitation and a bit of humidity. Teams batting first have won each of the last three ODIs at Lord's, and both captains, considering their strong bowling attacks, will look to bat first and back themselves to defend a total.

Squads

New Zealand: Kane Williamson (c), Tom Blundell (wk), Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor

Australia: Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Shaun Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson, Pat Cummins, Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Zampa, Nathan Lyon

If Nicols doesn't get rest of this WC....

Should consider Southee for Henry and Blundell as well. Latham looks shot on confidence.

I expect Australia to win this comfortably. Another century for Warner perhaps.

Especially if they open with Guptill and the slogger Monroe.
We're playing with 8/9 with Munro in the team and Guptill and Latham out of form.

Pressure going to be on Kane and Taylor again.

Things would have been way better if Will Young wasn't injured, the guy was in great form and scored runs against a full strength Aussie bowling line up in Aus a month before the WC.

Lets see if NZ defeat to Pak was a blip or a trend!

New Zealand have won their last two completed men’s ODIs against Australia, they
haven’t won more consecutive matches against their Trans-Tasman neighbours since
a three-game winning run in February 2007.
• Australia have won four of their last five ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup meetings with
New Zealand (L1); the Black Caps only victory in that span coming on home soil (28th
February 2015 in Auckland).
• Australia won their only previous completed men’s ODI against New Zealand in
England, by seven wickets at The Oval in September 2004; the Blacks Caps did win
an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 1999 encounter with Australia in Cardiff though.
• New Zealand have won 13 of their last 15 completed ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup
matches (L2), one of those losses coming against Australia in the 2015 Final and the
other in their most recent such fixture against Pakistan.
• Australia have only tasted defeat once in their last 12 men’s ODIs at Lord’s (W10, T1);
winning on their previous two visits by the same margin (64 runs).
• New Zealand have won all three of their completed men’s ODIs at Lord’s, however
they haven’t played at the venue since 31st May 2013 when Martin Guptill hit an
unbeaten century (103*) in a victory over England.
• Australia’s David Warner (500) and Aaron Finch (496) are first and second
respectively for most runs at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 so far; only two
Australian players have made more runs in a single edition (Matthew Hayden, 659
runs and Ricky Ponting, 539 runs, both in 2007).
• Kane Williamson (New Zealand) has scored 414 runs at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup
2019 so far, the fourth most by a Black Caps player in the tournament’s history, Martin
Guptill holds the record with his 547 runs in 2015.
• Mitchell Starc (Australia) and Trent Boult (New Zealand) were the leading wicket
takers at the 2015 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup; Starc has taken a competition-high
19 wickets at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 so far, whilst Boult has nine in this
edition.
• Colin de Grandhomme and James Neesham compiled a 132-run sixth wicket
partnership in the Black Caps’ most recent ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 match
against Pakistan, the highest ever stand for the wicket in the tournament’s history for
New Zealand.

Stead is hopeless, he's backing Munro again

We deserve to go out.

Only change may be Henry for Southee...

This new coach is useless...

We may as well have a PP poster open for us, can't possibly do worse than Munro..

Australia in relaxed mood!

This is a worthwhile game to follow today. Two heavyweights.

Good luck, Aussies. I am cheering for you guys.

Two dropped catches already.. both by Guptill, first was tough the second should have been taken.

Our catching has been pretty ordinary for a while.

Yes. Fielding from NZ hasn't been great. They dropped multiple catches against West Indies.

Lockie gets Warner first ball :aag

Warner had no clue about that bouncer.

NZ's bowling and fielding have looked very good. Batting's been a bit average this tournament, but has potential. I hope NZ win here, and take that confidence and beat England.

Just switched over to this match.....has a test match atmosphere from the 80s

His fielding is good enough to have him in the side

Kiwis got to competitive total after a similar start against Pak. Let’s see if Aussies can do that today.

Stonis has started rather briskly . What do you make of this pitch Aman ? 280 par or more ?

240-250 would be tough for us to chase against Starc, Behrendorff and Cummins.

NZ win is good for India. They can still top the table after the impending phainty from England tomorrow.

MMHS, Khawaja place under threat and he is performing. You were right about Australian underperofmers performing when needed.

Kane needs to go for the kill and look to roll over Aus cheaply.

Third dropped catch.. tbf it was tough.

Second life for Khawaja.

Other day Latham dropped Babar. Today Khawaja. Going by the history he might drop Moeen or Rashid lol

Daal mein kuch ka hai...

I suspect England will win its remaining match leaving Pakistan out in the cold.

244 to win thanks to Boult.

Nz all out for 160-180 me thinks! Don't want another headache with nz winning and taking another semi final slot.

Trent Boult get’s a hattrick against Australia

3 swinging yorkers, what bowling from him! Congrats!

Does this match matter in respect to Pak's chances in the semis??

Please elaborate.!
