Mitchell needs to do 2 things I reckon:

1. Grow his moustache back. He looks too much of a babyface without it

2. Realise that he didn't kill Virat Kohli by hitting him on the head and bowl with some aggression

Kohli should declare if India reaches 500 at lunch (low possibility though). Show some intent!

I don't think he will do that, with India needing to bat on a final day wicket. If you concede 500 in the first innings, then the chances of winning are rather remote (only six instances in the entire history of the game where a team lost after posting 500), especially when you are playing away.

Agreed. But it will set the tone for the series.

Agreed. Put the pressure on Australia to chase the win

Yep. Instead of cribbing about crowds dwindling away from tests, Captains should act as good ambassadors of the sport and drive to results. Crowds will automatically get involved.

Hughes effect seems to have taken its toll on Johnson. He needs to bowl with more aggression. That said, Indians have batted well so far so kudos to them.

Sorry its not Virats job to get crowds back into Test cricket .
Declaring at that score just to set the tone or entertain the crowds is beyond stupid

India need to try and get up towards Aussies total as much as possible, game becomes a 1 inns shootout but flat surface will probably mean a draw unless India collapse tomorrow and give a 100+ lead away.

That one innings is still haunting him. But Joburg is traditionally a graveyard for spinners. Not fair to judge him based on that one performance and he did not bowl much in the first innings. Ashwin is a genuine spinner (who could finish with 400 test wickets) compared to Jaddu, who is essentially a bits and pieces player.

NZ is a graveyard for spinners too,yet we judge Jaddu right?

What do you base the bolded on?bits and pieces players don't make one of the best players their bunny like he did with Clarke.Being a genuine spinner doesnt mean much if you depend on the pitch for it and start trying all sorts of variations and experiments when things are not working.Jaddu has very comparable if not better record in 2 formats, only in T20s is Ashwin much better, again due to variations and experiments as those work there

Will Kohli declare behind?

Aus needs to get one wicket early and Indians have a long tail. I don't think it will come to that unless Indians bat extremely well. 150 odd runs to play even now. I expect Aus victory chance around 60% right now. Wicket will be much harder to bat in 4th inning and Aus simply needs to set 350 runs target and have a go at Indians.

Australia vs India | 1st Test | December 9-13, 2014 | Adelaide | Day 4

Exciting day ahead for both teams

:kohli

Rohit and Saha need india to take us as close to the lead as possible. Aussies will look for one break through to get to the tail.

This pitch usually becomes very hard to bat on on day 5, so India need as much runs as possible. They also need to start well with the ball, although that seems to be case for both teams. New ball bowling aside from late on day 1 hasn't worked for either team.

Peter Siddle needs to bowl well, his Test career is hanging by a thread. I know he was ill yesterday but Mitch Marsh bowled quicker and better than he did.

Australia need to get these 5 remaining Indian wickets in quick time and then quickfire with the bat in the second innings and give enough time to India to take their 10 wickets.

Thank you captain obvious. Msg relayed.

Only chance for a result otherwise will be a draw.

Down under is the best place for test cricket and if you are competitive enough u can give the home side the run for money

First ball of the day from Siddle and 128kph.

Good ball to start with though, just hitting top of off. Unlike Ishant a 60 test veteran whose first ball is a rank half tracker wide outside off.

Not sure why Siddle is still in the squad. Is finished as a bowler.

Siddle trundling big time....surprising that he is in the pace rich oz squad

Combination of factors - he took a 5fer in the domestic game lead up, a lot of our bowlers as usual are injured and I think they wanted experience seeing as this match was in Adelaide. But I expect Hazelwood to come in for Brisbane.

How does Lyon have 3 wickets already :))) imagine on day 5! This is the same bowler that got smashed on the more spin conductive pitches of UAE

For an educated man from a top 2 university, you have a surprising lack of insight into cricket. Lyon bowls very well in Australia, he bowls poorly on turning tracks as he relies more on bounce than spin for his wickets. He does spin it but bounce is usually what butters his bread. If you were to watch the game, this has been one of Lyons best ever bowling efforts.

I'm just trying to rile up Indian fans mate ;)

That's a nice zing.

okay channel 9. Twelve replays of the dropped catch and 5 minutes of discussion is plenty. Move on.

Don't know what's wrong with Siddle? looks to be low in confidence. I don't think he will be picked for the next test match.

Clarke should have caught that. But he is injured, easier to score a century against this bowling attack than to catch a dolly

I can't believe you gave a 5 fer to a man who averages 40 with the ball in Sheffield Shield cricket.

Shami has scored more runs than Saha.

Unfair to say that, Saha was not out but still given. He didn't look too troubled and looked set. Not saying he would have scored a whole lot more but he didn't look too bad

Aus can score quick runs and then test Indian batting again. 78 overs remaining. Aus can play 70 overs and score around 280-300 runs. They can try to put Indians out for 4-5 overs today and if pick up wickets then Indians will be under huge pressure to save this test.

We just lost wickets at the wrong time and to nothing balls really. Except for Rahane. None of em got unplayable ones. We should have easily gotten close to Aus score had tail shown any courage at all.

Its just pathetic to see our bottom 4 bat like this. And why the hell was Aaron a much better technically equipped bat sent @ no.11 is beyond me.

We have just given the advantage to Aussies. Hard to see us save the game from here. With pitch only getting worse, Lyon would run through our lineup.
