Australia vs India | 1st Test | Melbourne | Boxing day

RiPy Singh now bowling with 8 men on off side and one on leg side. The leg side fielder looks to be on mid on. Need real good control here. Now all he has to do is also do a cart wheel in his runup
 
Symonds bowled by Zaheer. Symonds starts to walk then sees a no ball call and takes a run instead

Symonds bowled off a noball. Peach of a delivery. Absolutely no clue for Symonds. Bad luck Zaheer.

a ball or two before there was an edge and Dhoni went down to the right and pulled out and didn't go for the catch
 
After Dhoni not attempting to take a simple catch, Symonds gone leg before to Zaheer.
 
What is with mark Nicholas fixing his hair when he is about to come on TV. They showed it yesterday too and I think he doesn't know that sometimes camera is on him (if he the next item) while coverage is not on locally
 
Perhaps for the first time I started browsing PP with "Time pass" section first. I'm still kinda shocked!

Coming back to cricket- Oz are on top, I don't think they can loose form here. However, good to see India fighting it out and not giving it up. Wish if we have batted better, we could have made a game out of it. Now only some Sangakkarasque type brilliance can save India from here, along with some help from weather of course! :)

to get Hayden, Jaques,Ponting,Hussey,Clarke,Symonds,Gilchrist of this formidable team in both innings is an achievement for India's allegedly pop gun attack.

the much maligned , apology of an attack, has succeeded in seeing the back of ponting in single digits in both innings. there was only one century and one half century in the first innings for australia, so far only 2 half centuries in second innings for them. run rate had been less than 4 in both innings which was not expected off this bowling attack!

apart from the opening wicket partnership on the first day, there has been no century stand. wickets have been earned at regular intervals with out the help of indian umpires/dust bowls on conditions that suit the australian batting as they have grown up on home pitches!

It is the batting that let india down in the first innings.
If the superstars have anything in their system , this is the time to prove their worth and to show that they deserve the accolades and adulations of their fans.Yuvi and Dhoni must stand up and be counted as men. if not now, when?
 
Aus should declare and bowl at least 10-15 overs to tonight! 480+ runs leads is MORE than enough, I think!

we have scored 6 runs in 3 overs, much better than the first dig.

I predict......India may surprise us with its batting display in 2nd innings! Will score more than 420 runs!
 
If they make this match a exhibition match and gives some targets on the pitch, and if you hit the target 1 run will become 10 runs, 1 four will be 40 runs then India will have better chance of winning this match.
 
India can win this. Ponting declare too early. I would have jsut bat out the day, get the psycholigical edge and put up 500. Because day 4 pitch is be a belter...adn even if India score 250 runs for little loss of wicket...they can win on the last day.

Aussies will win this one easily!!!
They hav set a big total for India....very dificult to achieve!!
India in a difficult situation...even a draw is very dificult coz whole 2 dayz r left!!!
Aussie bowlers will wrap it up!

except when he was facing Clark.
He was confused whether the ball would come in or go away after pitching.
he is not able to pick him.
hope he does well.he has to keep an end going.
 
dravid always struggles against line-length type bowlers.....its nuthing new ,even at his best mcgrath was one of the few bowlesr who troubled him !
 
The declaration came too early. Did they really need 6 sessions to get India out? I would've batted till just before lunch tomorrow.

I guess maybe Ponting wanted to sneak a wicket before stumps and still get the advantage of the morning conditions but I don't think it was worth it.

may be the aussie coach announced an holiday to visit family with on 5th day, if they can bowl india out tomorrow itself! with the next test being back-2 -back, they need some rest, what better way to get it than finishing the match on the 4th day. that would give a psychological edge too!
 
India have got around 180 overs to chase 499, if India apply themselves and bat sensibly, you never know. Whatever happens, India should go down fighting.

Considering SL scored 410 in the 4th innings earlier this summer, we may be in for a good match.

Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the match is over by tea on day 4.

Lol, forget about it mate! I'm banking on Australia to finish this off tomorrow, and that way we'll get to spend New Years Eve partying. Whereas the Indians will have to reflect on thier performance, and learn how to put up a better fight against the mighty Australians. I reckon even 60 overs is enough for us to bowl out the Indians, hence we could have batted up to day 5 lunch and still win the game. Will some team please give us a challenge.............

Oh and btw, who needs McGrath and Warne? Johnson, Tait and Hogg have filled in the void left by these players, and the fact of the matter is we got bundles of talent waiting to be unleashed at the International level. That's just the way it works with us.

India should look to bat postive, by batting defensively they will lose wickets in the process. It's improbable rather then impossible, two days is enough to obtain 499 runs (249.5 per day) and two days is enough for Australia to obtain 10 wickets, but it's heading for an Aussie win, facing Lee, Clark, Jhonson and Hogg on a cracked surface is not easy.

It's heading for an Aussie win, but for Jaffer, Yuvraj and Dhoni, this is the innings to prove their worth, this should settle the combination for the Sydney test.

I was optimistic about India's chances earlier, but this test seems lost and India will have a though time in Perth, so Australia will yet again add another year in their winning streak (15).

I believe India will put up a good fight in the last innings and in the next three tests.

to bat up to lunch on 5th day, u will have to bat all over again for the 3rd time and then some more.

Most of the indian forummers here have conceded that it would be very difficult for India to save Perth and MCG. From the very beginning, in fact right from the Bangalore test ended.

not over yet. Stay there and just focus ball to ball. The wicket doesn't have too many demons and look to score off Hogg. We can do this India, just don't go out there and stonewall for god sakes.
 
You can score off Hogg but once it starts reversing it will be hard to score of the pace trio.

Then we need to get Dravid going or get him out early. Otherwise he will end up staying for 180 overs ( 90 overs x 2 days ) and score 45 runs.

Problem is Indian waits eternally for Hogg to arrive and in the process they put tremendous pressure on themselves. For a change they should go after Lee.

The mighty Indians are making short work of the dismal Aussie bowling attack; I think we'll knock these runs off by lunch on day 5, Jaffer to get a double ton of course..
 
Jaffer deserves to be shot. Out on a no ball and then 3 balls later fishes at a wide one and is caught behind. Dreadful shot by Wasim.

actually I thought I was watching a replay of the no-ball as I didn't see the shot then and only saw the umpire calling a no-ball

Easa try to understand yaar since Old Trafford Test he is trying to achieve a record of slowest century in Test cricket but each time he manages to enter into double figure he unfortunately gets out. :(

What's with all the Dravid criticism. Mike Atherton did this for England in Jo'Burg in 1994/95 and secured England a draw. He batted through 2 days, boring as hell with a sr of like 30 but it did the job and got us a result. As long as he stays out there he's not doing a bad job.

We are just afraid that he might break a 30 year old record for the slowest century held by our beloved Mudassar. Thats all.
 
no wonder the crowd stayed away. the bowling isnt that special the indians are letting them settle
 
indians are happy for some reason bc they got australia out for 343 and had them for 350 odd for 7....thats bc australia doesn't bat like the indians do at snail pace...they actually score runs...indian batting is so pathetic out there...

australians will kill india in sydney and adeliade too....this indian team doesnt stand a chance in my opinion

match is not boring and I can't say about good tactic. one of the batsman has to be scoring faster. Actually both should be atleast taking a single or two every over to keep the scoreboard moving. They can't be thinking of a draw and lasting 2 days is too much

Dravid out of there lbw to Symonds. Symmo switches to the off breaks and Dravid is beaten in the flight and plumb infront.
