Australia vs India | 2nd Test | Perth | Dec 14-18, 2018 | Day 4 Thread

Well, they did almost win the 1st test doing the exact opposite of what you're describing.

Their tail is definitely better than Pakistan's. No disagreements there. I talked about the Top 6 batsmen yesterday and they are fragile.

Watch the dismissals & the alarming bounce before you take this thought any further . Visitors will lose by at least 100 runs here .

Yeah they might. But the point I was making is that Australian collapse as bad as Pakistanis do when they are on top.

The way ball is behaving after lunch, I don't think any one can complain. On contrary, the way Paine & Usman batted a session before lunch, you can't expect that from Sarfraz and a top order. Since Ambrose & Bishop pair, I haven't see any pace attack using WACA (Perth) track like this. No comparison with Aussie resilience and PAK's weak mentality - even Aussie last pair is trying to survive here, and put whatever singles they can add - then think about Babar, Sarfraz, Bilal, Yasir & Hasan at Abu Dhabi (both Test).

No comparison.

I talked about the Top 6 mentality. The tail is far far superior than Pakistan's and is always willing to fight it out. The Top 6 are meek. Lyon is one of the most gutsiest player I've seen recently. But I was talking about the Top 6 batsmen. They are still very fragile like the Pakistanis.

was that after Lunch , not start of play ?

When you use the heavy roller (which Aussies used), it first rolls everything flat, also underneath moisture comes out & it bonds the top surface - so first few overs, may be an hour, wicket actually behaves better But, such wickets with high % of clay and built on rock hard base actually cracks with heavy roller - in Asian tracks, soil is soft, so wicket disintegrates and dust come out, it turns. In AUS, wickets are compact for deep rooted live grass - it doesn't disintegrate, rather cracks widen up. Almost impossible to bat if the cracks appear in both axis (along & across wicket).

Standard rule for rolling is 10 minutes at the start of the day, and 7 minutes before start of next innings - choice of the roller is batting sides discretion.

lol, Indians totally made a mess of this, Aus won the game 90 runs ago.. I am predicting India all out for 190-200...

There you go ..Bumrah comes on and knocks him over. If only captain courageous kept him for one more over

Bhumra bowled one yorker and the furniture got dismantled. Why did Kohli remove him ?

Why they decided to bounce out No. 9 & No. 11 on this track? Kohli is a fantastic batsman, but can't say that regarding his tactics.

Yea, this is out of India's hand now. The 11th wicket won it for Australia.

It's not only the total # of runs, but the mental strain of having to see 4 after 4 from the 11th wicket.

At Centurian in January the target was same 287

Lungi Nigidi ran through the Indian batting line up that time.

Bowling figure of 0-57 is 13 over in this pitch is a complete waste. Playing Yadav is the biggest blunder Kohli and Ravi did, which costed us this match. I don't remember when he landed 6 bowls consistently. At least Bhubaneswar would have kept tight one end.

Just need to ball wicket to wicket and send both openers to pavilion...just Kohli and Pujara are the key wickets....

1-1 could happen today itself.

IDK. The plan was more like "lets break their arms, so they can't bowl"

Still debatable - the way Usman & Paine saved a Test at Abu Dhabi playing totally uncharacteristic cricket out of their comfort zone, don't see that from PAK top order. In fact, only thing I have seen them is dead bat everything and choke down score board. Personally I didn't find any wrong with Head or Marsh - they had a 43 lead on a alarmingly deteriorating wicket and tried to cash on as many as possible. Azhar & Shafiq would have got out for probably lower score, but playing many more balls. AT the end, Aussies has scored 243 & given a target of 285 - it's up to the bowlers now. Aussie batsmen have done enough, which we can rarely say about PAK batting.

Umesh yadav was known for his pace.
But he has been as slow as bhuvi in this match. At the start of his career he was wayward but now he is both wayward and slow,. What an improvement

I wouldn't mind a quick fire 50 from Rahul. The pitch should play okay for about 20 overs since the roller is being used. Those runs will be very vital if he can get them.

Plan was to get one of Aussie bowlers injured so that they cant bowl but the plan backfired.

Aussies would be angry right now after the antics by Kohli and India. An injury here to Kohli or Pujara and India's dream of winning the series will take a dent.

LOL why would you not even offer a shot?

Poor batting. Nothing to do with the pitch this one for Rahul...

Thanks for your invaluable services to the indian test team. Please go and make a life in the IPL circus .

RIP Rahul’s Test career. He can stick to IPL and T20’s.

Man has technical flaws and low on confidence.

India needs to let go of KL Rahul and Vijay in Tests soon. They have a fantastic pairing of Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill waiting in the wings so use them. Prithvi in all likelihood will play the Boxing Day Test I believe. But get Shubman in as well.

Shaw should be available for MCG, I tend to believe Sharmaji can't do worse than this pair - IND should open with Pujara and send Sharma at 5.

wasnt he very good in the SA tour? or am i confusing him with someone else?

Thats the most sensible thing to do. But, then Kohli have to bat no 3. I would play sharma and make him open. Things will not go worse than this.

Hazelwood seems to have lost his touch this series tbh

He has been struggling in Test cricket badly. Barring that fluke century in a dead rubber, he did nothing as far as I remember.

Rahul should stick to T20’s only. He is another Rohit Sharma in the making.
